Researches for monitoring innovation produce quantitative and statistical results, concerning the efforts of companies to innovate, on the results obtained from these efforts, and the impact of innovation on business results. For its quantitative and statistical, these research report, for example, the percentage of companies that have launched new products, but do not tell what these new products. This research presents a strategy for monitoring innovation through quantitative and descriptive also. Named for Continuous Monitoring of Innovation, the proposed strategy is based on a database supplied by the companies themselves and innovative institutions. To evaluate experimentally the proposed model, an experimental study was conducted in a number of technology companies in the city of São Carlos - SP. Forty-eight companies presented themselves voluntarily reporting their efforts to innovate, innovations produced in the last 3 years, and the impact of these innovations on business results. A prototype database was developed, helping to collect the information and consultation. The results of the case study indicate that it is possible to monitor innovation collecting quantitative information combined with descriptive information. The results also indicate that it is possible, from the proposed strategy, generate indicators compatible with those produced by traditional research on innovation, for comparison purposes, and add descriptive information to these indicators, enriching our understanding of innovation and innovative companies on . This paper contributes by proposing innovative strategy for monitoring innovation, and collect initial information about its viability. The results invite further research.
