Abstract
The study discusses the importance of LEM (Laboratory of Mathematics Teaching) as a tool didactics in the teaching-learning process. A bibliographic review of the theme was carried out, contextualizing the beginnings of didactics of Mathematics, up to the origins of LEM Brazil and the world. The work presents the implantation of a laboratory, its composition, and exemplifies its practical use. A class of students was chosen and worked on, from the 1st year of High School (2018), in practical interaction with the LEM. It can be seen that the use of this space, complementing the theoretical classes, promoted socialization and group commitment; expanded the creativity of the student-participants and teacher; and enriched the teaching-learning activities, making the process more dynamic and pleasant.
