The purpose of the present study is to promote English teaching as a second language for
children from an anti-racist perspective. For that, we share a unit of the courseware "My Wild
Hair", supported by a bibliographic-propositional research, of a qualitative nature, having as
target audience students in the early years of Elementary School. With and through the
proposal, it is intended to build together with the students a valued self-image, providing
opportunities for them to recognize themselves as part of their ethnic-racial groups as well as
to become aware of the institutional racism and how it dictates and organizes Brazilian
society. The teaching strategies of the courseware cover the increment of games in the
classroom, exploring the potential of different digital platforms and taking advantage of the
motivational content they afford. Here, students are invited to explore the fictional world of
Sangoma, from the game “My Wild Hair”, overcoming each linguistic obstacle and
developing criticality as well as self-esteem regarding the raised themes. The material is,
above all, a reminder about how beauty lies in diversity.
