Formando engenheiros: um olhar sobre a Escola de Engenharia de São Carlos
Resumen
The graduation of new engineers plays a fundamental role in the development of a nation, both in its economic and social aspects. However, increasing the number of engineers available in the job market is not a definitive solution to such questions, and it is necessary to qualify the type of engineers that are being graduated in our universities. In this research, we present the possibility of applying a sociological
analysis system to a specific engineering school, in order to evaluate the pedagogical trends, philosophical currents and adjacent social fields that most influence the design of its courses and curricula, and consequently the profile of the engineer being formed. As a research methodology, we opted for the social fields analysis of the French philosopher and sociologist Pierre Bourdieu. The object of the research was chosen to be the School of Engineering of São Carlos (EESC-USP), and the document review technique of its Political-Pedagogical Projects (PPP) was used as the investigation tool, with the aim of replicating the same procedure in other engineering schools in the future.
