A Associação Transgêneros de Sorocaba (A.T.S.) e as lutas da pessoa trans pelo direito à alteração do nome e do sexo no Registro Civil
Abstract
This dissertation will demonstrate, based on the studies of Foucault (2009), Louro
(2020) and several scholars in the legal field, through documental research analyzing
judicial decisions and concrete cases, the impact that the representation of private civil
associations on the municipal level such as the Associação Transgêneros de Sorocaba
– A.T.S. and national ones such as ANTRA and ABGLT bring to the fight for the rights
of the Trans population. For this, judicial decisions were selected that granted or did not
grant the rights of trans people based on the constitutional principle of human dignity
and how legislation regarding LGBTQIA+ rights, more specifically trans people,
evolved. The results demonstrate that, despite progress in gaining rights for trans
people, whether through individual struggle or through national (ANTRA, ABGLT) and
municipal (A.T.S.) civil associations, the struggle continues, as many State agents
continue to disrespect the advancement of legislation won by all these struggles.
