The Torcida Jovem (Young Fan Club in English) of Botafogo-PB is the largest and oldest organized fan group of Botafogo Futebol Clube, the main club in João Pessoa. For two uninterrupted years, this research engaged in an ethnographic immersion with the Torcida Jovem, involving long-term participant observation that experienced many of the fans' collective experiences and interactions. The festivities, the pista (clash between soccer fan clubs in free translation), the dance, the fan performance, the caravan, the attack, the ambush, the dialogue with the neighborhoods, the ideology, the procedure, the daily encounters, the relationship with the impoverished city periphery, the march, the activity, and the procession. Above all, negotiations, segmentations, fissures, pacifications, and antagonisms that produce an intricate network of alliances and rivalries among organized fan groups throughout Brazil. Furthermore, the study reflects on violence, codes of conduct, and rules defining "being a fan" without forgetting the always tense relationship between organized fan groups and state security forces. This thesis delves into all these aspects.
