Formação do campo policial na "Princesa do Oeste": relações de poder e conflitos cotidianos entre elites, populares e a Polícia de São Carlos, 1888 - 1914
Resumo
The objective of this research is to analyse the formation of the policing field between the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century, utilizing as a base a case study of the police and policing in the city of São Carlos (do Pinhal) between 1888 and 1914. The present research has three basic objectives: to study the social relationships between the police and the local elite of this city; to understand the relationships between the Civil Police and the Public Force in that locality; and to investigate the nature of everyday relationships between the police and the population (immigrants and poor Brasilians) in the this city and period through the analysis of police inquests, criminal trial records and police correspondence, in addition to the analysis of local almanacs.
