listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Efeito agudo da fotobiomodulação de corpo inteiro na rigidez arterial de indivíduos com hipertensão arterial: um ensaio clínico duplo cego, sham controlado e randomizado(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2025-12-04) Rossi, João Marcos Dariolli; Espósito, Lara Maria Bataglia; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4062557728424239; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-8471-0688; Ferraresi, Cleber; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9593811257950561; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1361-8390; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8568593848524289; https://orcid.org/0009-0000-3123-2689Hypertension is the main risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, with a great impact on public health. Hypertension is frequently related to arterial stiffness, a condition that predicts the risk for cardiovascular events and mortality. Photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy has a potential hypotensive mechanism, that can modulate arterial wall distension and then improve arterial stiffness indicators, showing promise as a therapeutic resource in the treatment of hypertension. However, until now, no studies have been found that have investigated these potential PBM effects, especially with emphasis on full-body PBM, that can achieve systemic effects. Objectives: To evaluate the acute effect of full-body PBM on arterial stiffness of individuals with hypertension. Material and Methods: This is a randomized double-blind and sham-controlled clinical trial. Participants (n=21) aged 40 to 60 years old, diagnosed with hypertension and using control drugs were equally, randomly and secretly allocated into one of 2 groups: Full-body PBM group; and Full-body PBM Sham group. Participants were assessed for arterial stiffness in the pre- and post-intervention moments by carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity analysis. Participants received a single application of PBM, which, depending on the group, was an active or sham full-body irradiation from a LED panel. Data homogeneity and normality were verified by the Levene and Shapiro-Wilk tests, which determined the choice of subsequent tests. A statistical significance of 5% was considered. Results: The pulse wave velocity (PWV) values between the pre- and post-therapy assessments showed no statistically significant differences in either group. However, the active group demonstrated a reduction from 8.18 ± 1.40 m/s to 7.89 ± 0.91 m/s, whereas the sham group showed an increase from 6.26 ± 0.64 m/s to 6.56 ± 0.94 m/s. Aortic systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), and mean arterial pressure (MAP) values exhibited significant reductions in the active group, decreasing from 132.4 ± 10.7 to 124.3 ± 9.33 mmHg, from 90.2 ± 10.02 to 85.75 ± 8.65 mmHg, and from 108.4 ± 10.51 to 101.4 ± 10.10 mmHg, respectively. In contrast, the sham group showed no statistically significant differences between pre- and post-therapy assessments, with aortic SBP, DBP, and MAP changing from 124.2 ± 11.41 to 123.3 ± 13.45 mmHg, from 84.55 ± 11.88 to 84.45 ± 13.54 mmHg, and from 101.4 ± 11.82 to 99.36 ± 14.33 mmHg, respectively. Conclusion: The findings suggest a possible association between photobiomodulation therapy and improvements in outcomes related to arterial stiffness. Further studies involving larger samples and longer follow-up periods are required to support the consolidation of this technique as an alternative or adjunct to pharmacological treatment.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Educação financeira no ensino médio: uma proposta de trabalho(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2022-09-26) Cardoso, Letícia Gonçalves; de Oliveira, Leandro Nery; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3143379419870050The objective of this work is to develop activities on financial education for high school students in order to contribute to the teaching of the subject in schools, given its mandatory nature. For this, two activities were developed, the first on budget and family planning, aims to teach students the importance of financial planning, through the analysis of the family’s cost of living. The second activity is about goal achievement, and its purpose is to teach students how to set goals and the strategies for achieving them.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Aplicações da álgebra linear no reconhecimento facial(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2022-09-26) da Silva, Naara Priscila Soares; de Oliveira, Leandro Nery; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3143379419870050Mathematics has been present for a long time in the daily life of society. Mathematical models are constantly constructed to explain, calculate and predict various types of phenomena. We can observe this from initial concepts, such as the four elementary operations, to advanced abstractions and calculations. Proportion of ingredients in cooking, visual language through media graphics, or calculations performed by computers with immense processing power, are examples of the application of mathematics in everyday life.Although we have the constant presence of mathematics in our lives, many still question about the application of some concepts that are studied. After all, who has never heard the famous question that every student has asked: “where am I going to use this?". In this direction, the present work will deal with concepts of eigenvectors and eigenvalues, seen during the discipline of Linear Algebra and their application in a technological tool, facial recognition.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Aplicações da álgebra linear em processamento de imagens digitais(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2024-02-07) Paz, Juliana Souza; de Oliveira, Leandro Nery; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3143379419870050; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0159130944518240This work clearly presents how Linear Algebra is fundamental in digital image processing, an area that emerged along with technological advances and image transmission techniques to facilitate their visualization and analysis. With the increase in the number of digitally generated and processed images in various areas, from medicine to the automotive industry, Linear Algebra has become even more important, allowing the representation and manipulation of images as numerical matrices. To understand how the relationship between Linear Algebra and digital images works, it was necessary to study the history and essential concepts of this area. In addition, we will explore the applications of matrix operations in digital image processing, with examples to illustrate the development of techniques in images. A practical application of Linear Algebra in Decomposition by singular values will also be presented, which is a technique that facilitates the compression and reconstruction of images, in addition to helping with transportation. This work aims to present the basic techniques of digital image processing, to provide a solid basis for future studies and, finally, to explore the geometric part of Linear Algebra in the context of digital image processing.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Simetria central na teoria das matrizes: uma investigaçao sobre matrizes centrossimétricas(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2025-02-19) Amorim, Lucas Costa; Oliveira, Leandro Nery de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3143379419870050This study aims to investigate the development of centrosymmetric matrices over the years. To do so, we will analyze authors who conducted research on the determinant, the inverse, the eigenvalues, and the eigenvectors of centrosymmetric matrices. The investigation will encompass an analysis of primary and secondary sources, with the goal of outlining the historical context in which centrosymmetric matrices emerged as a distinct topic of mathematical research. By analyzing these historical roots, we will be able to establish the foundations of the early development of centrosymmetric matrices. Subsequently, this study will focus on four main milestones: the calculation of the determinant, the inverse, the eigenvalues, and the eigenvectors of centrosymmetric matrices. Exploring the relationship between these studies and how they complemented each other will be essential to understanding the progression of knowledge in this field. As we advance in this historical investigation, we will gain a deeper understanding of the origins and evolution of centrosymmetric matrices. This understanding will allow us to better contextualize the significant contributions of Zehfuss, Muir, Hanus, Ray, and Good, as well as recognize the importance of these advancements in shaping modern understanding of matrices and their applications.
