The intention of this work is to study the consumer behavior in the choice of retail to purchase food. Being more specific, the work has the objective to identify the profile of the consumers who frequent diverses food retails in the main Brazilian capitals. The identification of the consumers has intention to elaborate recommendations that can be used for retail companies in the strategical decisions of market positioning and adaptation of the store to the consumer profile. So, the work has two bases: the bibliographical revision and the empirical analysis. The bibliographical revision approaches the consumer behavior in general and also in specific food purchase, moreover, it approaches the food retail in Brazil and its characteristics. This revision allows to see the general of consumer behavior and which characteristics of the consumer and others variables are associates with the choice of a retail to purchase food. The empirical analysis has the objective to identify the profile of the consumers of four Brazilian regions in the choice of one or more retail to purchase food. In the conclusion, the bibliographical revision and the empirical analysis are joined to find the similarities and differences between which is found in the literature and that really occurs; because, the characteristics of the consumer and the others variables in the bibliographical revision must reflect on some form the profile of the consumer identified in the empirical research. It is standed out that the fact of the field research to enclose four Brazilian regions, the result in some region can be different of the found in literature because of regional specificities (characteristics of the consumer or local variable). Finally, the elaboration of suggestions and recommendations to the retail companies is made from the junction of the two bases, the theoretical revision and the profile of the consumer.

This dissertation analyzes concrete cases of introduction of the competence management, to know how the changes in the work organization were associated with it. The literature about competences has advanced in the last years, not only in volume of publications, but also in the dimensions of analysis of the subject. The competence management was introduced in these organizations as a management model that would give sustentation to a more general process of change that the companies were passing by, giving the managers the support to validate their decisions. It was traced a picture about organizational changes related to work and human resources practices and its relation to the introduction of competence management. Later, an analysis was carried through concrete cases removed from the literature about introduction of the competence management. Finally, a research was conducted in two companies of different sectors that introduced the competence management. For this, interviews were realized with human resources and production managers and with operational workers. The results of the research showed that the companies have adopted the competence management as part of a wider process of reorganization. It was verified that the companies prioritized the development of individual abilities e the more important initiatives related to the competence management are related to the practices of training and performance development and evaluation.

Osteoporosis is a pathology that afflicts mainly postmenopausal women, consequently this disorder generates severe social and economic consequences. This disease is characterized by low bone mass (osteopenia) and bone tissue microarchitectural deterioration, which leads to enhanced bone fragility, thus resulting in fracture risk increase. As an experimental mode of bone loss in post-menopausal women the ovariectomized rat has been used. The periosteum is innervated by sympathetic nervous system (SNS) whose neurotransmitters regulate direct and indirectly the bone metabolism. In this study, we evaluated the possible influence of SNS on physical, biometric, biomechanical and biochemical parameters of the 5th lumbar vertebrae of ovariectomized (ovx) rats. Therefore, 4-month-old female rats were randomized in 5 groups: Basal (sacrificed at the beginning of the experimental), Intact (treated with 0,9% saline, sc), Control (ovx rats treated with 0,9% saline, sc), GUA 30 (ovx rats treated with 37 mg of guanetidine /kg, sc, for 30 days) and GUA 8 (ovx rats treated with 40 mg of guanetidine /kg, sc, for 8 weeks). The animals were sacrificed at the end of 8 weeks, except for the Basal group. The 5th lumbar vertebra was removed and defleshed and physical, miometric, biomechanical and chemical properties were analyzed. The denervation was confirmed by palpebral ptose and diarrhea observed in all treated animals. The Control group showed lower mineral and bone densities than the Intact group with consequent lower biomechanical parameter, indicating that castration was effective to induce osteopenia. The sympathetic denervation partially inhibited the osteopenia as shown by the higher values of mineral and bone densities when compared with the Control group. But, these better physical parameters did not induced better bone quality as shown by biomechanics.

Entre cercas, barracos e manchetes: uma análise sobre o problema agrário na agenda da mídia do sudoeste do Paraná.

On this research we have analyzed the agrarian problem of press in the southwest of Paraná, in 2003. To give support to the research, we used two daily newspapers from Paraná: Jornal de Beltrão, from Francisco Beltrão and Diário do Povo, from Pato Branco, and two weekly newspapers, O Palmense and Correio Regional, both from Palmas. The theoretical empirical model adopted is the agenda setting, a hypotheses that holds that media participates in the construction and definition of people s choices. We have focused on this method the agenda of the media, aiming at noticing, though it, the elaboration of the micro social agrarian agenda. The procedures include, besides library research, the quantitative content analysis of these newspapers, and some interviews with editors and leaders in the area. The research presents some relevant topics as well. The agrarian theme involves, above all, the historical perception of the importance of the land and of the rural sector in the political-economical tradition of the country, as well as the fact that it is a permanent social problem. Considering a political perspective, the year of 2003 marks the beginning of a new government, with President Lula, whose proposals indicated sensitive changes in the policies for the land sector. Finally, in the academic-empirical dimension, we found that there is not enough study on agenda setting in this region, specially those related to the agrarian theme, even though this is a geographic area marked by historical land conflicts. In general, we have observed that the local newspapers are legitimating and act in mutual level, producing and exaggerating versions that are set by interest groups, which quite often reverberate in the press. Through the analysis of the graphs and of specific books, we noticed that the history of agents and media professionals; the class appeals that mobilize the actors and the level of dependence in the relations of native press with official government influence the local agenda. We have also identified that this determination occurs substantially through the editorial process, be it under the connivance of political power, or through the prerogative of the financial power. We have also noticed the relations between the mobility of the actors and the visibility of the agrarian theme in the micro regional press, through fields like tradition, family, status and publicity.

Vibro-fluidized beds with inert particles as fluidizing medium have been appearing as an innovative technique for drying of suspensions and pastes. Aiming to contribute for the comprehension of phenomena involved in such processes, an investigation of fluid dynamic behavior of a vibro-fluidized (and also of a fluidized) bed with inert particles was carried out in this work. Glycerol was employed to wet the inert particles and then simulate the presence of a liquid paste into the bed. The purpose of the present work is to obtain a detailed investigation of the effects of amplitude, frequency of vibration, dimensionless vibration number, degree of liquid saturation, and of the particle size and density on the fluid dynamic behavior of the bed. The research included also an experimental investigation on the effects of the particle size distribution on the dynamic of inert particles into the fluidized, vibrated and vibro-fluidized beds, with an evaluation of size segregation patterns. The experiments were divided into three groups: in the first one, preliminary fluid dynamics tests were carried out; in the second one, the fluid dynamic behavior of fluidized and vibro-fluidized beds was investigated, and in the last one, the effects of particle size distribution on the dynamics of fluidized, vibrated and vibro-fluidized beds were verified. The experimental apparatus used in the tests was a vibro-fluidized bed constituted of a glass chamber, with a 0.114 m diameter cylindrical section, thickness of 0.003 m and height of 0.50 m. Ballotini spherical glass beads (ρp =2,500 kg/m3), with mean diameters from 1.10x10-3 to 17.00x10-3 m, polypropylene spheroids (ρp = 935 kg/m3) with mean diameters of 2.60x10-3 and 3.67x10-3 m and elliptical cylinders of polystyrene (ρp = 1,050 kg/m3) with equivalent diameter (volumetric diameter) of 2.51x10-3 m, were used as inert particles. The bed was operated under dimensionless vibration numbers from 0.00 to 6.00, for amplitudes varying from 0.000 to 0.021 and frequencies of vibration from 0.00 and 18.20 Hz. Glycerol saturation degrees (defined as the ratio between volume of glycerol and volume of voids in the fixed bed) varied from 0.0000 and 0.0072. The glycerol was employed to simulate the presence of a liquid fed into the bed in a batch mode, since it practically does not evaporate under the conditions of present work. Identical values of dimensionless vibration numbers (Γ) were obtained using different combinations of amplitudes (A) and frequencies of vibration (f), aiming to verify the universality of such a parameter to describe vibration characteristics of a vibro-fluidized bed. Four types of size distribution models were used in the investigation of the effects of the particle size distribution on the dynamics of vibro-fluidized beds: binary, flat, Gaussian and a reference one, all of them with a mean Sauter diameter of 2.18x10-3 m. In the range of experimental conditions investigated, it was observed that the dimensionless vibration number does not fully characterize the fluid dynamic behavior of the vibrated systems. Some degree of particle agglomeration was always observed in the presence of glycerol, yielding to an irregular and poor fluidization. The use of vibration in such cases improved the particle circulation in the bed, thus reducing the agglomeration and minimizing the formation of channelling. When specific particle size distributions were adopted for fluidization, some size segregation pattern was observed in almost every case. In the fluidized bed, the smallest particles stayed at the top of the column, while in the vibrated one the largest particles tended to concentrate at the top. In a vibro-fluidized bed under short amplitude of vibration (0.003 m), some segregation was noted but in a less extent than that observed in the fluidized bed at similar conditions. At high amplitude of vibration (0.009 m), no size segregation was detected.

Disintegrins are toxins frequently found in snake venoms. Their biological effects are due to their binding to cell receptors known as integrins. Aiming to isolate new disintegrins from Bothrops alternatus snake, a cDNA library was constructed upon the transcripts expressed in the venom gland from one specimen. Two disintegrins, called DisBa-01 and DisBa-02 were cloned and sequenced. The amplification of other medium-size disintegrins and metalloprotease-disintegrins was also achieved. The recombinant toxin, DisBa-01, was expressed in an optimized bacterial system (Escherichia coli BL21(DE3) pET28a+DisBa-01) and tested in several biological assays. The toxin inhibited the platelet aggregation (IC50= 235nM) induced by collagen in rabbit s platelets rich plasma (PRP). Using ADP as inductor, the platelet aggregation inhibition was also observed in PRP from rabbits (IC50= 124nM) and human (IC50= 475nM), as well as in washed platelets from mice (IC50= 25nM). Competition assays for the αIIbβ3 integrin using specific ligands, fibrinogen and a specific antibody against activated αIIbβ3, revealed that the toxin strongly binds to this receptor (respectively IC50=18nM and IC50=70nM). Furthermore, the toxin inhibited the proliferation of cells that representatively express αVβ3 integrin, HMEC-1 and B16F10-2B8, in a dose/time dependent manner and the adhesion of B16F10-2B8 to vitronectin (IC50= 225nM). In vivo, the toxin significantly inhibited the thrombus formation in arterioles (Treated: 58,4 ± 1,6 min.; Control: 24,3 ± 2,8 min., p<0,002) and venules (Treated: 46,6 ± 6,8min.; Control: 27,1 ± 1,3min., p<0,002), prolonged the bleeding time (Treated: 989 ± 140 sec.; Control: 202 ± 22 sec.; p<0,008) and inhibited the pulmonary mestastasis of B16F10-2B8 (~92%, 12 days after the tumor cells injection). These results, as well as structural bioinformatics studies strongly suggest the binding of the toxin with αIIbβ3 and αVb3 integrins, what motivates further studies aiming the therapeutic/laboratorial application of DisBa-01 or its derivatives.

As from 1995, the companies of the electric sector in São Paulo underwent organizational changes that both preceded and made privatization viable. They were carried out by their own workers under the label modernization . The problem to be studied in this research was to understand how they unleashed the dynamics of change, since they were aware that the changes would lead to the dismantle of their own body. In the changing process, the guidelines they adopted depended on the external demands. However, under bourdieusian sociology perspective, we consider that they also depended on the measures adopted in each company, that is, they resulted from the interpretation and redefinitions of these demands by the agents interacting under the constraints of company s field of the power. The empirical research was centered in one of the companies: in its unions and professionals, fundamentally, in the modernization agents, which was led by a limited group of workers in higher ranks. The main sources of data were interviews, questionnaires, documents, and newspapers. In this research we verified that the cardinals from the higher clergy decided for the possibility of carrying out a downsizing conducted by themselves before they were exposed to a takeover in near future. We tried to present the constraints and the instigating perspectives that touched them, and also, how some of their actions concerted with some demands from union entities and professionals. We also verified that, in the presentation and justification of modernization, the cardinals from the higher clergy spread principles of reclassification and ranking of the company and of workers, as well as the idea of rescuing and transferring part of them to a new company . Modernizing would be the bridge. In this context of speech, they called upon the workers who would work on the modernization and selected those who would take part in a training program. In both of them, the offer of posts, beneath the demand, pointed to the establishment of a frontier between those who would be participants and those who would not, a symbolic line which separated those who had the ticket to join in the new company and those with an uncertain future. This border implied in the division and ranking of the whole of the workers, with consequences such as increasing differentiation, of individualization and internal competition crowned by a realignment with the cardinals from the higher clergy. Finally, it created social conditions of reception of speech and became a mechanism that allowed them to impose their prescriptions by means of symbolic violence. Yet, we verified that with modernization, the cardinals from the higher clergy had something to demonstrate to the possible buyers: a reengineering under study and implementation. With it, they had diagnoses and bases to give continuity to potential achievements: redesign of processes, gains in productivity and efficiency, redimensioning of staff, formalization of activities and know-how of the workers. In conclusion, the cardinals from the higher clergy initiated a changing process which involved the workers and acquired its own dynamic. Further to that, everybody realized that the studies and the implementations carried out had produced and would produce unpredictable and undesired consequences: The reengineering and the lack of definition as to the future, as a matter if fact, apply to all.

As capacitações e os recursos logísticos para a prática do Supply Chain Management (SCM)
(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2005-11-29)
    Marchesini, Márcia Maria Penteado
    ;
    Alcântara, Rosane Lúcia Chicarelli
Within the current context of competition, we can perceive the emergence of a new paradigm of business management based on the fact that companies no longer compete isolatedly or individually among themselves, but through the various supply chains they belong to. This new paradigm or concept of management refers to Supply Chain Management (SCM). Particularly, logistics has a significant impact on the SCM concept and represents the fundamental process for this concept as it propitiates the operational arrangement of the supply chain. Thus, this dissertation searched to identify the effects of the adoption of the concept of SCM and its initiatives in the logistic function of the distribution channel companies of grocery products, generating, through the Resource Based View (RBV) as classification approach, the identification of logistic capabilities and resources. For in such way, there was an ample discussion about the concept of SCM and its different views and definitions. In this context, the needed logistic capabilities and resources to adopt SCM concepts and initiatives were identified in the bibliographical revision of this research. This dissertation, through this ample discussion, will contribute to the more development of SCM theory and of unification of the logistic theory. There were various logistic capabilities, like the adoption of logistics function as a strategic activity, the adoption of concept of integrated logistics, the adoption of Lean and Agile Paradigm or Re-supplying. Additionally, there were various logistic resources, like IT (Information Technology) and its tools, the software related to logistics and Logistics Information System, crossdocking. To complement the theory discussion about SCM and logistic capabilities and resources, this research realized three case studies, whose object was to evaluate the adoption and the degree of development of these logistic elements, through the contrast between encountered theory and practice, and identify the main benefits to each company, the expected results but not reached and the main logistic problems faced for each company. With the results from these three cases, there was good adoption in the practice of logistic capabilities and resources, the literature emphasized, independently the degree of development in each company. However, it was evident the discrepancy among the researched companies as for the adoption and use of the logistic change points existent in the literature, and their development degree, that allowed suggest a hierarchy of companies in terms of the implantation of logistic capabilities and resources. Specifically, this dissertation holds a qualitative research approach, as investigative method the multiple case studies, as the instrument of data collection the interview which was carried out by semi-structured questionnaire.

This work presents a comparison between conventional solid waste collection, also known as door to-door collection which is used by most of the Brazilian s municipalities and the Mandatory Drop-Off Waste Collection At Specific Sites (CLEO), to where the residents must transport their domestic solid waste to be collected. Literature points to the Mandatory Drop-Off (CLEO) as likely to have the lowest cost in the solid waste system. Also, the paper proposes to compare this type of collection with the door-to-door collection. And in addition, to find out the residents opinion about this type of collection, a survey was conducted with the residents of a street segment in Bebedouro-SP, where a drop-off collection is currently made at specific sites, but not in a mandatory way. The survey points that the collection at specific points is 10 to 30 per cent less expensive than the door-to-door collection. (If crew and vehicles are taken in consideration) Bebedouro/SP s survey shows that 75% of respondents are involved and know about the collection of solid waste services. Most of residents that live around main street approved the way that collection and disposal are made, at a central island. However, 60% do not want a container in the curbside of their front house. Another important issue that the respondents declared is their disposition to make a certain sacrifice , like to walk a lot a distance to dispose their solid waste in order to pay their Town s taxes at a discount rate.

To work with projects is a practice presents more often in schools of Childish Education. Considering the child s activity in the work with plans and its importance for the development, this study has an objective: to understand how teachers of elementary school children accept and develop the plans with their groups. This king of strategy is a didactic alternative and its center of the search is the child, because the child must participate the entire process such as: choosing the subject for the work evaluation. The teacher s role has an extreme importance, teachers must mediate the children s relation with the knowledge and with the other people. The interaction among teachers and children ought to be a preoccupation and the communication makes possible to find out the interests and desires of the children. The teacher needs to establish the objectives that intends to achieve like the principal focus the children s development more then they know or do by themselves. Man learns how to be man because of the activity in his relations. For the Historical and Cultural conception the person s activity is essential in its process of education. Therefore this activity can t be a mechanics and thoughtless action, but it must de conscious of its goal. This objective must concur with the reason that impels the accomplishment of this activity. We accomplished a questionnaire with Childish Education teachers from São Carlos city to analyze how they accept the work with projects. The statistics revealed a contradictory conception between the teacher speech with the children, in a moment affirm the child s participation is essential for the work, in another moment we investigated the child doesn t have a central place in the process, then they don t participate the planning of the choices of the subjects or the evolution of the projects. Consequently it s fundamental the professional of Childish Education search for theoretical knowledge and basis for their practices become more consistent with they think about education and childhood to achieve a better quality in teaching of elementary school children.

The globalization and the Communication and Information Technologies (CIT´s) have been, respectively, increased the demand and facilitated the existence of cooperation associated to innovation, research and development (R&D). In Brazil colaborative actions in R&D, particularly among companies and universities, are limited due to cultural and historic reasons. By the other hand, despite the Internet to be a TIC recognized by its capacity to integrate people and institutions, the current portals also have mechanisms yet incipient for the stimulus to cooperation in R&D. This occurs in large and small technological areas like Metallic Surface Treatment (MST). The present work aims to promote the innovation by implement, in a pilot scale, an Internet portal, to act in the linkage among people and institutions that are responsible by the R&D in MST. The results indicated that portals like this give relevant contributions to the R&D´s sectorial processes facilitating the diagnosis and the strategic direction of collective actions to overcome problems related to innovation, besides the generation as of information and ideas for R&D as of synergy and trust in cooperation, allowing to the sector to take advantages of cooperation to improve its R&D.

Roseate spoonbill (Platalea ajaja) is a neotropical bird with wide geographic distribution in intercontinental and coastal wetland habitats. Populations are morphologically indistinguishable, with no apparent differentiation from the southern United States to northern Argentina. In this study we aim to determine the genetic diversity and to delineate the Brazilian population structure of this specie, using genetic data of a 483 base-pair fragment of the first domain of the mitochondrial DNA control region. Samples of 50 individuals were collected from five breeding colonies in two important Brazilian wetland areas, the Pantanal (four colonies, n = 39) and the Banhado do Taim (one colony, n = 11). The levels of variability estimated using nucleotide (π) and haplotipic (H) diversities were higher in the Pantanal (π = 0.004 and H = 0.753) than in Taim (π = 0,0004 and H = 0,182). No significant levels of genetic differentiation among Pantanal colonies (Fst and AMOVA values are not significant) and between Pantanal and Taim colonies (Fst and AMOVA values are not significant) were found. The unimodal pattern of the mismatch distribution and the neutrality tests results (Tajima`s D = -1,942, Fu = -23,271 and R2 = 0,055) pointed a recent expansion in the Pantanal population. The time since the expansion was estimated to be 30242 years before present and the Ne was estimated as 14556 females. Our results were discuss considering that the present Pantanal population was originated from a geographically limited founder population. The Ne estimates indicates that the Pantanal population represents around 10-30% of Roseate Spoonbill continental population.

Speeches and Images: the school of infantile education in the perspective of children is a work that has as intention the production of a methodology and methodologycals procedures, in the perspective of searching an approach of and, with the five years old child, for the production of effects, directions, images and speeches of them about school, the things, the games and the people that they live together. The study was developed by means of a research of qualitative nature. The collection of data was made having as main focus the five years old children who composed one of the groups of a municipal school of infantile education of the city of São Carlos - SP and, in the attempt of composing a methodology and to generate methodologycals tools for research with small children, it was used comments, with register in daily of field and the use of video camera, beyond the interviews and the production of photographic images by the children. In the children speeches, as much in the interviews, as in the conversations about the pictures, it was possible to perceive that they have clarity on what they like in the institution of infantile education which they frequent. They feel themselves happy in this public, social and not familiar space that is the school. The steady growth of the fruit juices sector is a significant factor strengthening the Brazilian economy; the richness of the tropical fruits, the quality of juices they are processed into and the luring presentation to consumers expanded the internal market and helped conquer demanding markets abroad. All this happened as a result of meeting stringent and assorted requirements, since food fruit juices included quality and safety are a must today. The purpose of this paper is to present a proposal to integrate management systems involving quality, good manufacturing practices and related legal requirements, as well as HACCP, in a small fruit juices company in the State of São Paulo. The proposal includes integrated cost-effective actions to implement the various standards. The research carried out concludes that the integration of management systems involving quality, good manufacturing practices and related legal requirements, as well as HACCP, is feasible. A relationship matrix of the respective requirements was designed during the research, which allowed conducting an initial joint and revealing assessment to evaluate the degree of fulfillment of those requirements. Bearing in mind the company´s scenario where the research was performed and the first application of this Integrated Management System took place, the proposal was not totally implemented. The necessity was perceived to test the Integrated Management System and monitor its operation in other food sector companies, thus not only evaluating the consistency of the proposal but also its flexibility to meet local specific requirements and detect improvement opportunities.

With the increase of the consumed volume of products as of FLG (fruits, vegetables and greens), both fruits farmers and processors it has looked for mechanisms that promote the product differentiation, conferring attributes of both quality and security food and the productive process. Certified of the fruit quality with international acceptance are an alternative for the farmers and processors fruits to break non-tariff barriers imposed by import markets and to increase the competitiveness of the businesses. It enters the some available quality certifications in the market fruits is the Integrated Fruits Production (IFP), legalized in Brazil initially in apple production. The objective of this research is to analyze the causal incentives of the Integrated Apple Production (IAP) adoption for different agents of the both production and processing agricultural segment of the apple chain and explorer the incentives that stimulate the agents to implant the IAP certification. The method choused as strategy for the development of the research was the study of cases in five companies of São Joaquim (SC) that commercialize IAP certified fruits. The research concludes that the incentives to the implantation of the IAP certification are related, in part, the necessity of the agents of the same segment, and with common interests to search the competitiveness adopting similar competitive strategies to those of the main competitors. However the incentives also are related to the force of some agents of the same segment with extended chain insertion acting in the production that transmit to the agents conditions of market demand yourself. Exactly not receiving incentives from price, the agents of the both production and processing agricultural production find indirect benefits with the PIM, mainly in the agricultural production control activities.

The school administration is a theme of great interes, not only for directors, but for educators in general, mainly if we understand the educator's in a way paper more enlarged, no restricted just to the limited dimensions of the classroom. Same knowing that the school is deeply affected for the politics education, social and economical of the country and that these, also interfere in doing of the teacher inside of classroom, we cannot disrespect that are the subjects inside school that do what the school is. In that sense, it is fundamental that the identity of the Political-pedagogic Project of the school is discussed because, when discussing it, it is discussing the identity of the school and of the subjects that compose it. Once intended to know the phenomenon in his essence, I opted to accomplish a case study analyzing in a fenomenologic perspective with base in the complex thought, dialoguing with the uncertainty and with the contradiction. For such, I chose some authors in order to build a theoretical referencial that could give base to my observations and analyse. Those authors are: Sanders, Magda Soares, Edgar Morin and Adelino Costa. To analyze the administration of the school in the search of understanding as the subjects exercises the autonomy in the elaboration and execution of the Political-pedagogic Project, to what extent the subjects of the school are aware of that document, in that measured it is preponderant factor in the quality of the school and the paper of the direction in that process, taking into account, in that analysis, the ultidimensionalidade of the phenomenon, that produces subjects autonomous, however dependent, is the subject-key of this work
