Contrary to what is known as process-product researches, in which teachers used to be seen as a mere technical performer, nowadays the teacher is the centerpiece in the educational process. In this new approach, the teacher is the core of the debates and professional practices, personal life and know-how of the professional practices are analysed. Lee Shulman is one of the researchers who tries to make a list of required knowledge for a teacher to carry out his/her job. This list is referred to as knowledge base of teaching by the author, which is formed, mainly, by content knowledge, general pedagogical knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge. As one of the sources to acquire such knowledge is the everyday practice, we have asked in which aspects and how a veteran teacher and a teacher-to-be, working together in their development process, and having a training teacher as mediator, can share the required knowledge in teaching. Two professionals graduated in Education and the researcher, in the role of mediator, took part in this study. One of the professionals, referred to as teacher-to-be, had no classroom practice; the other, referred to as veteran teacher, had an eighteen-year-long experience. Data was gathered from August through December 2003. The focal point was the elaboration, implementation and reflection about a series of five classes taught to early grades in Elementary School, the subject being air . The focus was the knowledge that is part of the knowledge base of teaching pointed out by Shulman. Results showed that the teacher-to-be faced the same difficulties and experienced similar tensions and anxiety as her veteran peer when at the beginning of her career. However, after years of practice, the veteran teacher seemed to have solid techniques or strategies on how to deal with students, differently from the teacher-to-be, who still tried to build them up by a process of trial and error. The greatest interaction between them was about the general pedagogical knowledge , when they talked about strategies to control students discipline, their characteristics and their behavior during classes. Both presented an important lack of content knowledge , which made it difficult for them to understand each other when that was the point. They had different motivation concerning the focus of analyses of the classes and about what they wanted to learn: the teacher-to-be focused on her own performance while the veteran teacher looked at the learning process by the students. Such fact might show that, instead of helping the development process, the longer the practice the more difficult for the peers to interact since the teachers interests could be different. Accepting an opinion or idea from a peer seems to be tied more to private characteristics of those involved. Contrary to what was expected, i.e., that the teacher-to-be could learn more about how to teach from the veteran teacher, there was learning by both professionals and an improvement in their knowledge base of teaching .

This research is related to the influence of Teaching of History to build the sense of embrace their ethnic-racial roots and the relation between blacks and whites. It has participated in this research four former black students of an Affirmative Action project who took place in the city of Sao Carlos, state of Sao Paulo, which aimed to prepare students to College admission exams. This research was performed and guided by the following research inquiry: Does the teaching of History contribute to the affirmation/denial to the ethnic-racial feeling of poor black students in the college admission courses? The study takes off from the observations made by the researcher in charge for the subjects of History and Geography in this project. He aimed to verify whether the teaching of History interferes in the self esteem and identity of afro-descendants students, leading them to the feeling of denying their own ethnic racial roots, which is fabricated in the society. Systematic talks with two former female students and two male students were conducted involved in the Affirmative action project that was developed in the period of 2002 and 2003, sponsored by Fundação Ford and attached to Department of Physics of USP, campus Sao Carlos Sao Paulo, aiming to facilitate the access and permanence of poor black students at the public university. It also aimed to strike back situations of prejudice, discrimination and racism such ideas reinforced by ideologies still present along the years in Brazil. The findings showed that the integration of the researched students favored them to embrace the feeling of ethnic and racial roots to what they were alike, when they identify themselves as afro-descendants. These students dealt with racist attitudes and discriminations in their routine. However, they got their self esteem and identity favored by the time they recognized themselves as culture makers and active agents in the scenery of the Brazilian history.

The general objective of this work is suggest an analytical model of managing tourist clusters potencial that support the people involved with the activity to reach decisions that help with aspects connected to integrated managing, to development and to sustainability of places fitting to tourism at rural areas. Due to the high complexity of the structure and dynamics of the tourism business and to reach the proposed goals of this study, the quality research with exploratory purpose was adopted. The data collecting instruments used were direct observation and recorded interviews. The interviewed people were agents from public and private realm, rural and urban, directly involved with tourism in cities with rural profile. In the public area, town agents were interviewed and in some cases, state and federal agents. In the private realm agents were interviewed representing each area that are, the tourist business, the rural area, and finally, the commercial realm. The cities chosen for the application and test of the proposed analytical model were: Lages, located in the plateau of Santa Catarina; Bonito, in the Bodoquena Hights, at Matogrosso do Sul; São Carlos, at the central region of São Paulo; Venda Nova do Imigrante, at the plateau of Espirito Santo and Carrancas at the South of Minas Gerais. The organization of the thesis follows the steps of introduction, theoretical revision, analytic model results and discussion and finally, bibliographic references. On the regard of the results gathered from the use of the model in each of the towns visited, it was possible to conclude that: the theoric revision used and presented in the chapters 2, 3 and 4 lead to the compilation of the analytical model of management of tourist clusters with rural emphasis and, concerning the cities, except for Bonito, there is no integration between public and private realms (rural, tourist and commercial). The agents have been working individually, because of the differences in objectives, interests, managing profile of those involved in the tourist business, besides disrespect for their own roles being found. The results, thus, in relation to the recognized management in the cities of Lages, São Carlos, Carrancas and Venda Nova do Imigrante, there have been the inexistence of the integration and, regarding to the local and sustainable development, including here the town Bonito, there are weak points. The first reason is the absence of a clearly directed study and the second reason because the information obtained during the interviews showed that the figures of the environmental, cultural, social and economical parameters have been noticed in different ways in each realm. There are some results that are taken as positive for the rural environment whereas are negative for the point of view of public and commercial areas and even for the community. This shows that the integration among the agents in the towns is not in a good rate. Facing the results, it is possible to consider that the suggested model is able to identify the limiting regarding integrated managing, the development of the place and sustainability.

The present dissertation made a study of case about media s covering over the paulista s government elections of 2002. Therefore, we made use of the newspapers Folha de S. Paulo and O Estado de S. Paulo in two specific dimensions of bibliographical analysis: 1) the impact of medias on political representation and electoral debate; and 2) the centrality of mass media in the contemporary democratic societies. The central analytical presuppositions used here in order to understand the degree of neutrality, the independence of those medias and its covering strategies, were the conceptions of frame and agenda-setting function, which admit the unintentional power of the mass communication agents in their work of presentation and qualification of subjects that people will transform as public debate s object for a certain period of time. After the analysis of the data collected during the four months that had preceded the elections, it was observed that those pointed out that both periodicals: a) carry different standards of communicating the news; b) display all competitive candidates equally; c) develop an electoral thematic universe which transpass the dispute limits; d) give limits range of news and tend not to interpret those when the subject is approached.

This research aimed to comprehend the way it is and how should be the treatment of racial-ethnical diversity in Pedagogy course from professors and students point of view. This study was guided by the following research question: How racial-ethnical diversity is treated and how it should be treated in Pedagogy course regarding students and professors understanding? It focused racial-ethnical relations in Pedagogy course and attempted to place Pedagogy as a science in racial-ethnical diversity perspective. Four professors and three students of Pedagogy course from the Federal University of São Carlos took part in the research. There were conversations with trigger questions and the data analysis was organized by a summary of answers to each of the trigger questions. Data analysis showed that Pedagogy course needs to offer conditions to students, professors and others to analyze and question the racial-ethnical treatment, in order to have a theoretical-practical stance towards the racial-ethnical diversity. By means of dialog, theoretical education, reflection, commitment, awareness of the National Curricular Policies Report for the Racial-Ethnical Education and for the History Education and Afro-Brazilian Culture, discipline, among others. This study considers that Pedagogy course is not the only environment, but the central one to search, dialog, research and test the anti- racist Pedagogy allowing professors to have the possibility to reformulate their stances and practices. And they should be able to contribute, in order to educate citizens, to a society that acts with resentment in face of racism or any discrimination practice.

Starting from the historical context of thirties years occasion of breakdown of the international liberalism and the Brazilian political system we analyzed the constitutions of 1934 and 1937, seeking for an answer to the following question: how two so different states systems could subsist under the same historical context? We tried to understand in which dimension these constitutionals texts were under the influences of the political-and-cultural ambient, and also in which degree they was taken by then the ideologies under discussions. It is important to keep in mind that both Constitutions shared similar rudiments and none of them fit under the usual theoretical label. As an effort to provide this answer, we studied the Brazilian social thought during the thirties years, and face it with the main ideas that figure in these constitutionals letters. As a result, we tried to take out the essentials aspects of these letters, taking them not as just simples juridical texts, but as legislations produced under the influences of a specific political-and-cultural ambient.

This work is case study researches about the trajectory of a cooperative school of basic education, located in São José do Rio Preto, inside of São Paulo state. The study has raised possible reasons in order to explain why in a school of cooperativist proposal and organization and in which parents and teachers who are supposed to take part in this process don t act as expected. Theoretical references have been studied in the national and international literature about cooperativism, political- pedagogical proposal, school administration and market politics. The dissertation begins with a chapter about cooperativist ideology. It goes over the cooperative and the educacional center, political-pedagogic process. The third chapter analyses the statutary alterations, the exhaustion of the assemblies in the last chapter we measure the capitalism and middle class market interferencies and implications in cooperatives in general, especially in COOPEC school. It is concluded that the cooperative democratic administration is seen as threatened by the lack of cooperativist ideology in parents and teachers, the directory staff authoritarism, the market lack of confidence and the reorganization of public school network.

This study aims at understanding, through the methodological perspective of Oral history and making use of quantitative data, the construction and reproduction of multiple identities and sociabilities present among the rural workers natural from the Minas Gerais state and the Brazilian northeast region, and who have migrated to Guariba, a bedroom community in the interior of the São Paulo state whose economy is based on the sugarcane industry. In order to make this understanding possible, it has been necessary to determine in which contexts these identities and sociabilities are built, that is, how the surrounding community, with its ideas, thoughts and values, interferes in these social relations. It has been made clear to us that, between the two groups, there is a dichotomic and dialectic relation based on prejudice and symbolic violence, as well as a stereotyped connection between immigrants-criminality, which is clearer in Guariba due to a rural workers strike in 1984. This dichotomic relation is made possible by an ideology which permeates all the social groups in Guariba, and which divides the city between those we have called the natives (European descendants, downtown dwellers, middle class and white) and the outsiders (migrants from Minas Gerais and the northeastern states of Brazil, living in the suburbs, low class and black). When facing the stigma of the native group, the outsiders , being a heterogeneous group, have different and multi-faceted reactions, which can be subdivided in three groups: the seasonal migrant outsiders , the Guariba long-time living outsiders and the outsiders who belong to the second and third generations of migrants. Men and women who migrate yearly, during the sugarcane harvest, play different social roles in the cities where they are migrate to and their hometowns. When coming back to their home land, if they have been successful in the sugarcane plantations of the São Paulo interior, they are entitled to social and cultural differentiation according to their new identities and wealth. On the other hand, in the modern world where they have migrated to the relation is the opposite. The means of sociability are scarce and tense, with discriminatory basis, since for the native community the migrants are representatives of a traditional and undesirable world. The migrants that have lived in the city for more time are able to widen their sociability bonds, which spread in the suburban neighborhoods where they live. Nevertheless, they know there are places in the city where they are not welcome, and at the same time they recollect and revive their home land, where they feel really at home : the more often they migrate, the longer they stay in the same place. The representatives of the second and third generations of migrants, on the other hand, consider themselves (and in fact are) Guariba citizens, fruits of the modern relations in the São Paulo state, and for this reason they believe that all the places in the city belong to them by rights. However, because they are also considered outsiders , they easily notice the stigmas they are submitted to, and end up being more susceptible to violence relations, which makes us think that the natives symbolic violence is turned into real violence among this group. Finally, the migrants not only experiment the reunion of the different, but they live, above all, the inequalities and social differences of the cities and towns of the São Paulo state. The relation the migrants have with the surrounding community disguises color/race as well as social class prejudice against this group, which will never be us ; they will always be outsiders .

This study it approached cases of conflicts characterized for physical, moral, economic and racial the violence, for work questions, that involve deriving Italian immigrants of diverse regions of Italy and other ethnic groups on coffee plantations of the judicial district of Araraquara in the period of 1890-1914, using as source criminal records. The present work searched to understand the values that guided a violent behavior in the daily conflicts, investigating the solidarity possibilities between the ethnic groups in the individual actions, mainly between the Italians. In this perspective, the work evidenced that the regional differences between the Italians limited the solidarity of the group, over all of the northern ones and of central Italy in relation to the meridionals. The analysis of the criminal records also evidenced that the main values that guided a violent behavior in the daily conflicts were to receive a wage just and to have movement freedom. These values had been verified for all the ethnic groups in question.

Canecystatin (CC) is a competitive and reversible protease inhibitor which blocks the proteolytic enzymes activities of insets, fungus e nematodes, prejudicing thus the growth, development and reproduction from these pathogenics organisms. CC is produced by sugarcane, but with limited production, difficulting extraction and purification for production of commercials products, so recombinant DNA technology is one alternative for increase of CC production. Nowadays, CC is produced in the Molecular Biology Laboratory of the Department of Genetic and Evolution of UFSCar (LBM-DGE/UFSCar) from E. coli BL21(DE3) in shaker, utilizing a high cost commercial culture medium (Circlegrow®). With the purpose of produce CC in higher scale, the aim of present work was the study the CC expression in E. coli BL21(DE3), evaluating different carbon source, kind of inductor and induction moment in shaker, as well as confirming the expression conditions in airlift bioreactor of 6 L working volume. In the experiments carried out in shaker were obtained similar cellular growth when utilized glycerol, glucose, fructose e fructose + glucose, and low cellular growth when utilized galactose. It was observed high expression when galactose was utilized as carbon source and IPTG 0,4 mM as inductor. When lactose at 4 e 40 mM was utilized as inductor, CC expression occurred only in the culture containing galactose as carbon source. Volumetric production (in mg/L) of CC up to 61% those from standard culture was obtained, with exception the culture that utilized galactose induced with 0,4 mM of IPTG and 4 mM of lactose, and specific production (mgCC/gcells) greater 75% from standard culture. With respect of cultures in airlift bioreactor, CC expression was superior to expression culture carried out in shaker utilizing glucose with carbon source, approximately 80% of CC concentration obtained in the standard culture after 1 hour of induction and achieving more than 90% in the second hour of induction. In terms of specific production, in this culture was obtained 79,9 mgCC/gcell, value approximately 25% superior to the standard culture.

Cariophylene sesquiterpenes are chemical compounds isolated from fungi of the Pestalotiopis genus in early studies developed in our research group. In the present work, a cultivation and analysis methodology were developed for these compounds in Pestalotiopsis, isolated from plants Pinus taeda, Swietenia macrophyla and Khaya invorenses. Different procedures were optimized for the extraction and analysis of the extracts employing liquid and gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry techniques (LC/MS and GC/MS). These studies had the intention of to detect the sesquiterpenes in fungal extracts without theys of isolation, and to check their production profile during a fixed cultivation period. The production of volatile organic compounds by the different species of Pestalotiospsis was also evaluated using hydrodestillation in Clevenger apparatus. The sesquiterpene cariophyllene was the main compound identified. Another study involving the secondary metabolites produced by Aspergillus aculeatus, a fungus isolated from the host plant Melia azedarach, was carried out. The target compounds in these studies were the dimeric aromatic poliketides Aurasperones A and B, Fonsesinones A and B, Orlandine and Kotanin. A poliketide production curve, obtained using HPLC, showed that the monomers are not detected during the early stage of development, indicating that probably the dimers are rapidly formed by the fungus or they are biosynthesized in the form already dimeric. Experiments of biotransformation showed that fungi possesss capacity to modify certain substracts, when cultivated in artificial ways.

The aeronautic industry has been studying the FSW (Friction Stir Welding) process since its development by TWI (The Welding Institute), in 1991. Nowadays it has been used in the airplanes fuselage of the Eclipse Aviation Co. and in non structural parts of the Airbus A380, in recent times started. Thus, the knowledge on welding of aeronautic aluminum alloys is very important to give safety in the use of the process and to development of new possibilities of joints for these alloys. Dissimilar welding allows some freedom on project design i.e. possibilities to join materials with different properties. The challenge of this work is to join materials with different mechanical properties using FSW, which is based on mechanical deformation. For this aim, dissimilar joints, 2024-T351 to 6056-T4 and 7075-T76 to 6056-T4, have been welded. The rotational speed was maintained constant and the travel speed was variable. The best parameters were identified according to the final quality of the welds after microstructural analyses and mechanical properties evaluation (tensile and microhardness tests). The analyses of the thermal cycles and forces developed during the weld, and the evaluation of the quality weld determine the best parameters that can produce a better combination between heat input and the best weld quality. It is concluded that the mechanical properties of the dissimilar joints improve with increasing weld travel speed and when the 6056 alloy is placed in the advancing side of the joint.

Due to the increase of general purpose operational systems support for real-time applications and by the increasing number of network interfaces with multiple communication technologies present in one single computational device, a middleware, with real-time characteristics, was designed and developed. This middleware encapsulates these communication technologies and protocols in order to improve fault tolerance and consequentially comply with deadlines for message transmission through connectivity options supply. Moreover, the Real Time Virtual Channel provides a virtual access point address mechanism, where each address maps a set of real access points from the consumer endpoint. For the translation of these addresses in real access points, name servers, known as Brokers, were also implemented.

The proposal of this work is to study the theory of sense in Deleuze inserted in the questions that reverberate on the contemporaneous philosophical field. Our route will follow the statements of Deleuze on his book Logic of Sense , especially when he detaches that this theme was thought by three different ways: the first, as lekton, by the Stoics on the III century B.C.; the second, as complexe significable, by Gregori di Rimini, on the XIV century; the third as obektiv, by Meinong, on the XIX century. When Deleuze thinks about his theory of sense, he introduces the sense as event.. Our study will start from the rosen questions by Meinong and how they have their origin on the paradox of the representation without object rosen by Benhard Bozano , which allows us to affirm that such paradox is at the origins of the phenomenology and in the analytic philosophy. The theory of the sense of Deleuze will be presented like being out from these two current contemporaneous philosophies.

Knowing what is specific about each culture would be helpful to perform cross cultural communication, because different cultures have different notions of how to begin and develop conversations. Due theses difficulties in differences in cultural norms, we are working to provide to computers this knowledge, since computer environment can allow communication across distance and across cultures. In order to provide to computers cross cultural knowledge, we have collected large knowledge bases representing Common Sense knowledge because we believe that Common Sense knowledge can give some guidelines about different cultures. In our research, we have used bases containing sentences describing common sense knowledge of people and everyday activities, beliefs and values collected from volunteer Web contributors. Furthermore, we describe experiences with these knowledge bases, and we are proposing software which automatically searches for cultural differences related to eating habits, alerting the user to potential differences among cultures. In this way, we hope that our work will contribute to software that takes better account of such differences, and fosters inter-cultural collaboration
