Stretching by the global postural re-education method (GPR) has been widely used as a physical therapeutic procedure for postural alterations, but its action on the cardio-respiratory system has been little documented. However, scientific evidence is necessary to validate it as an alternative treatment. Within this context, three studies were carried out with the objective of verifying the effect of stretching the respiratory muscle chain in the open-arm, open hip joint angle posture by the GPR method on cardio-respiratory responses. Twenty young (22.7±2.5 years old), healthy, sedentary (VO2max: 30.2±4.3 mL.kg.min-1) men with BMI = 25.3±1.5 kg/m2 were studied, divided at random into two groups of ten: the control group (CG) that did not take part in the stretching and the group submitted to treatment (GPR-G). The intervention consisted of two weekly stretching sessions, each of 30 min, for eight weeks, giving a total of 16 sessions. In the first study, the maximal respiratory pressure and the respiratory coefficient were assessed by way of a manovacuometer and thoracoabdominal cirtometry, respectively. Only the GPR-G presented greater values for inspiratory (IPmax) and expiratory (EPmax) maximal pressures and for axillary, xyphoid and abdominal cirtometry after the intervention period. The results showed that the method caused a beneficial effect on respiratory muscle force and on thoracoabdominal mobility, contributing to an improvement in respiratory mechanics. In the second study, pulmonary function was assessed by spirometry. The manoeuvres of slow vital capacity (SVC), forced vital capacity (FVC) and maximal voluntary ventilation (MVV) were carried out. The results showed there was a significant increase in the values for SVC, inspiratory capacity (IC), FVC, forced expiratory volume in the first second (FEV1) and MVV for the GPR-G after the training period, providing evidence that the proposed stretching was efficient in promoting an increase in pulmonary capacity and volume. In the third study, the effect of stretching on the autonomic modulation of the heart rate (HR) and on the ventilatory and metabolic variables was assessed at rest and during the cardio-pulmonary exercise test respectively. The ventilatory and metabolic variables were captured using an automatic metabolic system and the HR using a one-channel heart monitor. The exercise test was carried out using a cycle ergometer, with 20 to 25 W/min increments up to physical exhaustion. Intervention did not change the variables studied either at rest or during the cardio-pulmonary exercise test, for either of the groups. These results showed that the respiratory muscle chain stretching exercise did not promote any adaptations with respect to HR neither at rest and the ventilatory and metabolic variables during the exercise, which could be attributed to the noninvolvement of the major muscle groups in the type of protocol used. Finally, the results obtained in the three studies gave evidence that stretching the respiratory muscle chain by the GPR method was efficient in promoting an increase in respiratory muscle strength, thoracoabdominal mobility and pulmonary function, reflecting in an increase in respiratory mechanics, this fact being attributable to the specificity of the training. In this way, the findings of the present study, reinforce the importance of the GPR method in the maintenance of the functional capacity of the respiratory chain muscles, suggesting that it could be used as an alternative treatment for dysfunctions of the respiratory mechanics.

This study describes the repertoire of social skills and the frequency of externalizing and internalizing behavior problem among children who presented both problem behavior and learning disabilities. The children were evaluated using a variety of measures in social, behavioral and academic domains, using a multiple assessment method (different procedures, instruments and informants) as former reserch points out to a positive bias between children self-evaluation and teacher evaluation. The objectives of this investigation were: (1) characterize the social skills repertorie of children with comorbity of problem behaviors and learning disabilities; (2) characterize the frequency of externalizing and internalizing problem behaviors among these children; (3) compare The social skills self-evaluation to teacher s evaluation; (4) comparing results obtained using two differents instruments for social skills evaluation; (5) Identify the children s special needs, related to the frequency of externalizing and internalizing behavior problem and to deficits in their social skills repertorie. Paticipants were 50 children, 9 to 12 years of age, in the third on fourth grade classes of five elementary public schools, and their teachers, in a small city in the state of São Paulo, Brasil. Three instruments the IMHSC-Del-Prette (Del Prette & Del Prette, 2005), SSRS-BR (Bandeira, Del Prette, Del Prette & Magalhães, s.d.) and TDE (Stein, 1994)-were used to assess the children s social, behavioral and academic skills. Scores were determined according to instructions in each manual and these data were analysed using descripitive and inferential statistical methods. The results show that these children present deficits in their social skills repertorie, along with high frequency of externalizing and internalizing problems. There were biases between self-evaluation and teacher evaluation. This research concludes that children with comorbity of learning disabilities and problem behavior have special needs that are strongly related to their social and behavioral skills deficits.

Self-service companies have been concerned about improving their performance in face of competition, either to conquer new markets or to keep in business. It is essential for them to present good quality products and/or services. Thus, in this study, one of the aims was to show that the waiting time in supermarket checkout lines is very important for service speed and, therefore, for the service level of customers. Other aims include the reasons why the customer goes regularly to a specific supermarket and, among these reasons, the relevance of each one in contrast with the others, and its relative importance. As a result, it was possible to contextualize the scenario in which customers view the importance of queues and their waiting time. Also, the level of schooling of the customers was associated with the factors that lead them to go regularly to the place. This is an interesting contribution because in Brazil there is a relation between income and schooling. Besides, the queueing models that may satisfactorily represent the supermarket checkouts were studied and the one that best represents the system was identified. It was verified that the customers change lines when they notice another line with fewer customers, and the size of this difference was assessed. The queueing model with jockeying was the one to best represent the situation commonly found in supermarkets, and it can offer subsidies for service improvement. In order to carry out this research some companies in the city of São Carlos/SP were contacted, and one among the ones that allowed the data collection was selected. Therefore, this is a case study, thus presenting inferential limitations.

Nowadays, the microorganisms are responsible for the production of several antibiotics, immunosuppressant and antitumors, furthermore they are extremely important in industrial process. This work describes the production process and the isolation of the citrinin (234,6 mg/L) and of the mycophenolic acid (371,2 mg/L) with high purity levels in the process of extraction of a fermentation of 8 and 12 days respectively of a cultivation in liquid in Czapek medium enriched with 0,2% of extract of yeast utilizing the fungi Penicillium Catl1.1 and Penicillium sp. Casp5, isolated of the Coffea arabica L. after asepsis, as well, the development of an analytical methodology to quantify this compounds using the NMR. Additionally, on this work, we describe the isolation and the structural elucidation of an new alkaloid from prodiginine class with modification on ring (C), from an extract produced by Streptomyces violaceusniger violaceusniger actinomycete, isolated as an endophyte from Zea mays L. leaves and identified by Costa (2005), which was able to inhibit the growing of phytopatogens with economic value (Pythium aphanidermatum, Rhizoctonia solani, Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, Phytophthora parasitica e Fusarium moniliforme). Therefore, Finally, due to the results obtained during the execution of this work, is able to conclude that the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, beyond be presented like an efficient analytic technique in the quantification of the citrinin and of the mycophenolic acid in the extract fungi, was fundamental in the monitoring and optimization of the conditions of extraction during the period of 20 days of fermentation. Like this, to NMR is a technique that will be utilized in the process production and optimization of the substances produced by microorganisms in industrial scale.

(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2007-06-29) Vasconcelos, Renata Campos; Camarotto, João Alberto; https://lattes.cnpq.br/1427853773681255; https://lattes.cnpq.br/2804710415277103
The present study had the objectives to present the characteristics of a complex work, to demonstrate the management of these elements in the everyday job, besides relating this management with the social use of own s body in labor. To achieve these objectives, we studied the case of the domiciliar garbage collectors (garis), in a region of Belo Horizonte, Brazil. This thesis was divided in six chapters, to corroborate the hypothesis that the art of the worker to deal with the complexity of his/her job is the element that propitiates the regulation of workload. Therefore, this regulation can be limited by the personal characteristics of the workers and also for their job, introducing the notion of body economy . This thesis presented the refuse collector s job, the term regulation was differentiated from the term body economy , and some aspects of a complex work were described. The methodology of the Ergonomic Work Analysis (EWA) and some of its techniques were used to get the data. Some of the corporal techniques employed by the refuse collectors in their work were presented and analyzed, according to the complexity of their daily work. The management of the various characteristics of refuse domiciliary refuse collection was demonstrated and, in the thesis discussion was related to body economy . The notion of body economy was deepened, demonstrating the characteristics of the work that make it possible or difficultate the regulation of the workload. Finally, questions for new researches have been raised, and suggested some ergonomics recommendations to improve the conditions of the collectors work. We suggest to the professionals who auto-intitulate ergonomists , should understand the reality of subjects work, before prescribing postures and movements that they consider correct or ideal
