Since middle of 20th Century, the effervescence of scientific, technological and economic development incites changes in the several fields of society, evidencing one necessity of a critical view, of social line, before science and technology (S&T). These views lead in outbreak of Science, Technology and Society Movement STS − that search one perception more critical for the role developed for S&T and the defense of S&T aren t disconnected of social questions. The current technological changes impact over all society and it s not different over scientific community. Appraise and reflect about impacts and reactions of community is one of study areas of STS field. Focalizing on STS field, accentuate the following topics Impacts of technological change and Measurement of scientific and technological activity as from indicators , this work purposes to observe the question of scientific periodical publications, mainly the electronic scientific periodical, for guise of these two questions, through the analysis of Revista de Letras, institutional periodical from São Paulo State University, that combine several elements that enable the fulfillment of purpose. We objectify with this study attend for what challenges and factors propel the change for electronic form , the impact of co-existence of periodical in its printed and electronic form, beyond provide one characterization of its scientific production for critical and literary production area on the eve of its 50 years and then demonstrate the importance of multidisciplinary and critical view of STS field in question of electronic scientific periodicals.

The purposes of the study have been to identify which is(are) the meaning(s) of living with a child who has Down syndrome and its impact in the family functioning, and also to develop a theoretical model about these families experience. Symbolic Interactionism and a The Grounded Theory was used as a theoretical and methodological referential, respectively. Also, the semi-structured interview was authorized as an instrument of investigation, in which ten families were part of the study. The data analysis was performed concurrently to the collection, according to the steps alleged by the referential. It was possible to realize that the experience is composed of two phenomena: Living through cloudy times and Mobilizing to move forward . The first one is related to the hard times the family lives through and in which there are many doubts and uncertainties on handling with a Down syndrome child; the latter is related to all the attitudes and strategies to provide a better quality of life and development to the child. Through these phenomena, the Central Criterion and the Theoretical Model were identified: Searching for children s independence and autonomy through constant stimulation , which comes to reflect the family s experience with a Down syndrome child in the population that was studied. With the purpose of helping the child overcome their own barriers, the family needs to mobilize and struggle, to adapt to their routine, to learn about the Down syndrome, to search for the necessary treatments, to choose a school and face prejudice. These are huge responsibilities and concerns, which require help, either financial or emotional, to successfully fulfill all these deeds. This mobilization for the child s development imposes restrictions and abdications from the family group for their benefit. Besides, the family lives all their life with expectations about the child s future, always looking for some control over it. Despite the difficulties found during the path, the love and the happiness that the child brings to the family is a boundless motivation. It shows the family s endless search for the child s development through stimulations to guide to a less dependent future, motivated by love. The results lead to a reflection about the importance of family nursing, in which the nurse needs to be observant. Hard times faced by the family are highlighted and go way beyond the shock of discovery, which cause concern, anxiety, doubts and sadness. Thus, nurses must search for other contact settings with these families other than the hospital one, since their needs extrapolate the moment of diagnosis.

This study aimed to understand the meaning that the family in social vulnerability attributes to the social support and the social network in their experience with cancer. This is a qualitative study guided by Symbolic Interactionism as a theoretical framework, and Grounded Theory as a methodological reference. Data were collected through interviews with families at high social vulnerability, which have one member diagnosed with cancer referred by a Family Health Care Unit in a countryside city in São Paulo. From the continuous comparative analysis of the data emerged two dynamically interrelated phenomena: Realizing themselves vulnerable, which shows the family situation when facing the adversities imposed by the disease and Supporting each other to care, which shows the moves of the family seeking for support to care for the member of the family with cancer while maintaining family balance. Families reorganize and restructure to overcome obstacles and provide care to their beloved, often giving rise to a new family, which includes people who have responded to the demand for social support and exclude those who do not. The social context of these families influences the family system. The interaction that occurs in the subsystems and in the familiar supersystem directly affects the meanings attributed by the families and affect their actions. The relationship of these families with the Public Health System and other Public Services, and especially with the Family Health Care Unit, reveals the difficulties encountered by families to meet their needs. The development of this study offers support to family care of the patient with cancer in a situation of social vulnerability, according to their real needs.

Cyphocharax nagelii, Cyphocharax modestus, and Steindachnerina insculpta were the curimatid species analyzed in the present work. The objectives for all species were to identify sequences that could be used as chromosomal markers, to infer on the active mechanisms in their chromosomal evolution and of the family Curimatidae, and to determine indirectly the nucleotide composition of chromosomal regions. Additionally, the present work also aimed to analyze the B chromosome of C. nagelii, investigating the mitotic and meiotic behavior of this element and making inferences on its origins and evolution. The encountered diploid number was of 2n=54 with meta- and submetacentric chromosomes, corroborating the karyotypic macrostructure of the family Curimatidae. B chromosomes were detected in C. nagelii and analyses indicated that this element is potentially stable during mitosis. The presence of B chromosomes in other curimatid species suggests that this element represents an additional karyotypic differentiation mechanism. In the analyses of metaphase I cells of C. nagelii, the B chromosome behaved as a univalent, indicating possible segregation instability of this element. The C-banding technique evidenced heterochromatin blocks in the pericentromeric region of all chromosomes of the complement, as well as a few telomeric blocks, in the three studied species (B chromosomes in C. nagelii are heterochromatic). No chromosomal heteromorphisms regarding size, morphology, or C-banding pattern that could be associated with the presence of sex chromosomes were found in any of the three curimatid species. Microdissection of the B chromosome and consequent in situ hybridization with the produced probe showed that these elements share many mutual sequences, but the same does not occur with chromosomes of complement A of C. nagelii, C. modestus, or S. insculpta. The use of the base-specific CMA3/DAPI fluorochromes, silver nitrate staining, and 18S rDNA probes allowed the identification of 45S rDNA sites. These sites are present in an autossome pair in the three studied species, as well as in most curimatids. In C. nagelii and C. modestus, the 5S rDNA region is present in chromosome pairs 3 and 20; in S. insculpta only pair 3 contained the 5S rDNA gene. The presence of 5S rDNA in the third pair of the three described species points to a possible conserved location of this gene. A size difference was seen between the 5S rDNA sites, probably owing to the presence of two quantitavely different clusters of this ribosomal sequence. The B chromosomes of C. nagelii do not support 5S or 18S rDNA sequences and were not differentially marked by DAPI or CMA3. The hypothesis that karyotypic evolution in curimatids involves rearrangements of the centric fission/fusion and pericentric inversion type was suggested. Telomeric DNA sequences (TTAGGG)n were used in C. nagelii. The chromosomes of complement A as well as of complement B showed signs in the telomeric region. Furthermore, at least two autosome pairs exhibited telomeric sequences in an interstitial position, thus corroborating the hypothesis of centric fission/fusion evolution combined with pericentric inversion for the family Curimatidae.
