This dissertation is focused on using statistical tools (Design of Experiments, DOE) and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) for evaluating latex film formation. The experimental part was conducted at Dow Brasil R&D facility in São Paulo. Samples were analyzed in triplicate using the following tests: scrub resistance, minimum film formation temperature (MFFT), drying time and Brookfield viscosity. Initially, four different coalescents were added into a single emulsion system at the following concentrations: 1, 2, 3 and 5% (w/w). Plots of results against coalescent concentrations were used for comparison, as a standard coalescent evaluation approach. Subsequently the model was used to determine the numerical relationship that describes each test. Analysis of variance was done. It was possible to propose models for scrub resistance, MFFT and Brookfield viscosity. Drying time did not have valid coefficients for modeling. A Doehlert design of experiments was prepared using as variable coalescent type (X, Y and Z), coalescent concentration (0 to 5%, studied in 7 levels) and latex type (A, C, D, E and F). Additionally, seven samples were prepared for model validation. A model was run to determine the equation that describes each test. Variance, lack of fit and pure error analysis were applied. It was possible to propose models for scrub resistance, MFFT, drying time and Brookfield viscosity. For each test a PCA was performed using the following variables: coalescent concentration, coalescent type, latex type and the response of each specific test. Models were run using the first principal component scores and DOE variables. Again, variance, lack of fit and pure error analysis were applied and models were proposed. Comparing these two approaches showed that using PCA was more appropriate to extract information from raw data. Based on PC scores models, scrub resistance, MFFT and drying time contour plots were prepared. Desired results (maximum of scrub resistance, the minimum of MFFT and the shortest drying time) were highlighted in order to identify the best combination of coalescent concentration and latex type. In this case, coalescent concentration between 1.7% and 5.0% and coalescents A and/or F were optimum. Experimental results from the validation set were compared with model ones and, in average, there was about 80% of concordance between them.

Starting from the point that the continual formation of teachers must give opportunities to reflect about its own practice, to live classroom experiences from the situations developed in the courses and gain access to a theoretical foundation, we try to investigate which knowledge is mobilized, built and/or meant again by a group of elementary school teachers in an extension course before the challenge of integrating the juvenile literature and math. Related to the formation of teachers, knowledge and knowledge base to the teaching, strategies of formation and connection of literature with math, we chose among some topics of discussion Alarcão, Charlot, Fiorentini et al, Gauthier et al, Grando, Imbernón, Machado, Mizukami et al, Nacarato, Nóvoa, Oliveira, Passos, Ponte, Schön, Serrazina, Shulman, Smole, Tardif and Zeichner. In a qualitative approach we aimed to identify and analyze in this context the knowledge that was mobilized related to the general pedagogical knowledge as well as the specific ones related the professional development of the teachers before several formative strategies that were adapted during the course as reflection, team work, narratives, pedagogical interferences and reflexive observation by the teachers of the video classes, and also identify and analyze the potentialities of using the methodology of the connection of juvenile literature with math to the teaching. The analysis of data signals that the knowledge mobilized by the teachers was multiple and from different sources; it indicates that changes in general knowledge as well as in specific one in math, new meanings of some conceptions that the collaborative teachers related the teaching posture to the contents, values, attitudes and behavior. We also noticed that the value given to the time of group work by the teachers with the sharing of knowledge, legitimation of some teaching actions related to the contents, ways of performance, pedagogical resources adapted and mainly related to some concepts of geometry, the treatment of information and fractional/rational numbers that were the topics studied during the course; the acknowledgement and acceptance of the differences in classroom. We raised evidences that the professional knowledge of the teachers was meant with practice since they started to face Math presented in books in a different way, conceiving a new way of mobilizing the students to a learning process, what means a bigger flexibility in the base of the knowledge to the teaching and offer potentialities for a professional development.

Lazer e processos educativos : mergulhos culturais na Bacia do Salto
(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2010-02-11) Souza, Paulo César Antonini de; Gonçalves Junior, Luiz; https://lattes.cnpq.br/5053102098056338
This study was conducted with thirteen participants dips and jumps in the Bacia do Salto do Rio Jacaré, site located at Parque dos Saltos in Brotas city, small town of São Paulo state. The social practice of dips and jumps in Bacia, culturally developed by residents of the city since childhood, which is presented as a breach of the established commercially values by the brotense tourism industry, because are developing in an unused space by agencies to due the risk that the site offers to people who do this. During the development of this dissertation, the relationship between popular culture, languages and cutout art and, the time and freedom in leisure, dialogue each and provided orientate many of reflections built. The objective of this research was to unveil the essence of a social recreation in the Bacia do Salto, in attempt to understand the educational processes constituted in these relations, in recognition to cultural diversity as a possible element for the establishment of a teaching focused on the human and its existence. The methodology was phenomenology, located phenomenon mode, conduced from the question: What does sense in your experience in Bacia do Salto of Rio Jacaré Pepira? In the analysis of the data collected through individual interviews, we found four categories: A) Ecstasy; B) Envisage the adversity, C) Masculine context; D) Educational Processes. In the considerations we understand the relationships of the educational components that travel in continuous motion from the reflections of the participants, embodied by the sensations of pleasure, means of confronting the fears and anxieties of daily life and self-assertion on the role they have assumed before the society . The essence indicates that a new look unveiled without preconceptions and willing to accept the popular wisdom of the experience, practice, social leisure, has potential facultative to building a humane pedagogical Latin American, born by way of men and women's groups and grassroots communities.
