The question of rural development has been discussed by different agencies and agents, governmental or otherwise, that directed the discussions towards convergence between the questions of agriculture, agrarian and environment. In this approach, the conservation and restoration of natural resources are considered as important as the agricultural production. In Brazil, this approach has placed the agrarian reform settlements as areas important for the implementation of agricultural projects based on environmental sustainability. The case study we developed in a rural settlement in the municipality on the Ribeirão Preto, region northeastern state of Sao Paulo shows that the implementation of such projects exacerbates conflicts between the agents and expressed the fragmentation and dislocation of public policies for rural settlements. Comparing the different discourse and practices, we aimed to understand what is an environmental sustainability for the state, social movements and rural workers settled.

(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2010-09-01) Rubio, Ana Claúdia Ferrari; Silva, Ademar da; https://lattes.cnpq.br/9028512631572133
The changes occurred in our society in the last few years have immediately reflected in the school sphere. Nowadays, in the educational context there is a great international effort in favor of the inclusive education, which proposes to welcome students from any belief, race, social or financial background and who also may have any kind of disability. In this direction, this research has as objective to investigate the perceptions of deaf and hearing impaired students, included in state schools, concerning the teaching and learning process of a second language as part of the school curriculum, and therefore discuss the legislation which obliges those students to be in regular classrooms as well as the questions brought about regarding the process of inclusion. The subjects of the research are deaf or hearing impaired students from the 5th grade Elementary School to the 3rd grade High School, in the region of Araraquara, São Paulo, Brazil. It is a qualitative research, whose data were collected throught: (a) classroom observation; (b) questionnaires and interviews, intermediated by a professional specialized in sign language and (c) drawings. As a result, the data analyses have revealed that the students degree of language knowledge, of performance and of inclusion is related to individual characteristics.

Crianças negras em imagens do século XIX
(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2010-09-01) Jovino, Ione da Silva; Abramowicz, Anete; https://lattes.cnpq.br/2502752385941894; https://lattes.cnpq.br/6714175723955949
This research was based on the need of understanding the presence of black children in the 19th century and as a consequence understand childhood from this perspective. It intended to show how black children could be seen through images produced in the 19th century, which were selected from a corpus of engravings by Jean-Baptiste Debret and portraits by Militão Augusto de Azevedo. To discuss how the black children were represented in the images we tried to establish a relation between the history of children and childhood in Brazil, as well as to point out the importance of the image to the comprehension of the historical construction of the Brazilian black childhood framework. The analysis was based on a Foucaultian perspective, in which we aimed at focusing not on what the images hid, but at what these images showed as possibilities for these children and for black childhood as a whole in the 19th century. In addition, we analyzed the literature concerning slavery to understand childhood slavery presented in the famous works of Debret. We also searched other images that revealed different aspects of black childhood. This effort allowed the selection of portraits made by Militão, a gallery of unknown people, which showed black children quite differently from the first images, they were part of families or communities that used photography to keep their memories and of their groups so that they could perpetuate the images of these children. The analysis allowed the visualization of a feeling of black childhood, demonstrated by the signs of how children were taken care of which were preserved and recreated by black adults in the Brazilian slavery context.
