Compare the values predicted by three equations referenced in the literature with the values obtained by our sample of healthy volunteers in the six minute walk test (6MWT), and establish a new reference equation for 6MWT for the Brazilian population. 89 volunteers were evaluated (43 women) 37.8 ± 15.9 years old by spirometry, assessment of physical activity level by the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) and performed two 6MWT with rest intervals of 30 minutes between tests. For comparison the greatest distance achieved during the 6MWT (WD-6MWT) to the equations provided we used the Friedman test with post hoc Dunn and the correlation of variables with the WD-6MWT Spearman's test and the predictive model was performed multiple linear regression analysis by stepwise method. European equation significantly overestimated (p <0.001) WD-6MWT, Brazilian and American underestimated showed no significant difference. The WD-6MWT correlated significantly with gender (r = 0.46), age (r =- 0.59), height (r = 0.57) and length of the lower limb (LL-C) (r = 0.59). The reference equation was developed WD-6MWT=401.185 - (2.402 x age years) + (43.247 x gender 1 = male, female = 0) + (1.757 x height cm). Therefore, in view of the results obtained, it was possible to predict a new reference equation for Brazilian individuals, which explained 60% of the total variability in 6MWT, and will certainly contribute to improve the interpretation of the exercise capacity of patients with functional disability.

The main purpose of this study is to discuss the controversial grammar teaching role in a student s textbook and in the teacher s guide that follows it, as well as in its methodological orientations. This analysis is carried out taking into consideration the possibility of adapting some of the proposed activities based on grammar as a skill teaching theories. The textbook under analysis is part of a book series which has been developed by the state of Sao Paulo for its sixth year students of public schools. First, we present a discussion about Language Teaching Approach, as well as about Method and Technique according to Anthony (1963), Richards and Rodgers (2002) and Almeida Filho (2003). We also discuss the role of grammar teaching in some of the main foreign language teaching periods, such as Grammar- Translation, Audiolingualism and Communicative Approach. These discussions are aimed at providing a broad understanding of grammar teaching roles so that contemporary grammar teaching theories, such as the grammar as a skill teaching theories by Batstone (1994) and by Larsen-Freeman (2003), could help us illustrated alternative ways of teaching the structures presented in the textbook in question. It seems that these contemporary theories have contributed to the development of activities that may help preteen students take notice of grammar structures through extensive meaningful practice and reflection opportunities. We believe these illustrations may also help students become more autonomous in their learning.

This dissertation addresses some of the ways which the environmental issue relates to certain standards of economic rationality and the construction of scientific-technical discourse. Its central objective is to discuss a form of sociological interpretation about the social hierarchies produced in the Basin Committees, emphasizing the fundamentals of these discourses and discursive modalities under construction and / or consolidated in this decentralized space of environmental governance. The empirical study is the region of the Basin Committee Tietê- Jacaré, located in the central region of São Paulo. It is the 13th State Committee who, like others, is structured by a tripartite management, State, Municipal and Civil Society. Each segment has 12 representatives who compose the Committee on equal and shall be established in a deliberative power over the management of Basin waters. The works used for analytical investigation are: Boaventura de Souza Santos and Enrique Leff in relation to the discussion of the concepts of economic rationality and scientific episteme and also the work of Pierre Bourdieu and Michel Foucault to conduct a research about social distinction on the water management.
