The frequent association between groups of youngsters, especially poor youth, and drug use, present in the media and in the public policies, has raised discussions and interventions that need to be analyzed and problematized in their propositions and development. Such interventions have not considered the socioeconomic and cultural situation that these youngsters are submitted, accumulating ineffective results. This data raises the need to take a "step back" in argument, reversing the order of the question and inquire, a posteriori about the best way to treat these young people in use or abuse of drugs - an issue undoubtedly relevant - and start asking first which are the social contexts and the social arrangements that put these youngsters in a vulnerable situation to the drugs issue and how this exposure occurs in their daily practices. In order to investigate how drugs make up the path of poor youngsters who live in outlying areas was undertaken a qualitative research that aimed to access the experiences of young people, between 15 and 29 years old, living on the outskirts of a medium-sized city in the State of São Paulo, which attending to a social institution dedicated to leisure, culture and sports activities. The methods applied to reach the aims were the participant observation, semi-structured interviews and workshops of Activities. The propositions of social occupational therapy constituted the theoretical background of the study. The use of participatory methodologies in the apprehension of the universe of subjects studied allowed accessing their perceptions about the drug issue, pointing out, however, other issues that permeate their daily experiences, determining their condition of vulnerability. Issues such as the constant violations of their civil rights; restrictions to urban mobility; social stigma; real and/or symbolic violence; the centrality of work and their links with and through the drug trafficking, emerged from the reports of these young people, enabling to build a picture of the extended social context in which they are located, indicating that, although present in everyday life, drugs are not the main source of concern or of increasing of the vulnerability of these young people.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Influência da adição de nitrato de cálcio e de PhoslockTM no abatimento dos fluxos de nutrientes e metais na interface sedimento-coluna de água em um sistema lacustre eutrofizado(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2012-02-16) Oliveira, Aline Fernandes de; Mozeto, Antonio Aparecido; https://lattes.cnpq.br/6594211224864538; https://lattes.cnpq.br/8667572150256408This research project evaluated the changes in the fluxes of nutrients and metals at the sediment-water interface as a result of sediment treatment by the additions of PhoslockTM and calcium nitrate solution. The experiments were executed in situ using mesocosms that were assembled in the Ibirité Reservoir (MG). The calcium nitrate addition experiments showed nutrients flux abatement for Porthophosphate, ammoniacal-N and nitrate-N that were ≥ 90% whilst for the metals Fe and Mn the percentages reached 48 and 69%, respectively, as a result of sediment oxidation promoted by the intensification of denitrification rates. For the PhoslockTM addition the percentages of reduction in the fluxes across sediment-water interface was over 90% for P-orthophosphate and ammoniacal-N, 78% for nitrate-N and for the metals, Fe and Mn, 47 and 50%, respectively, as a result of the increased adsorption capacity of sediments due an excess of adsorbent material left on sediment surface.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Manejo da mancha preta dos citros através da utilização de agentes de controle biológico(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2012-02-16) Guimarães, Christiano Grëgio; Kupper, Katia Cristina; https://lattes.cnpq.br/7900622063392740; https://lattes.cnpq.br/5987557101307019The citrus industry faces serious problems represented by diseases that reduce the productivity and depreciate the fruits that give the appearance thereof. Among these diseases the citrus black spot caused by Guignardia citricarpa is one of the most important. As the predominant control of this disease is related to the chemical application, the financial costs, environmental and public health of these applications, as well as the increasing restrictions on the presence of residues in fresh fruits, and the possibility of emergence of resistant strains of pathogens to fungicides, it is necessary to study new control alternatives. Therefore, this work aimed to investigate the use of biocontrol agents, under field conditions, by applications of Bacillus subtilis, Trichoderma spp., uréia e combinação dos produtos comerciais Soil-Set® + Compostaid® on the citrus leaves that fallen to the ground, in order to reduce the production of ascospores directly and, indirectly, by acceleration of the decomposition of citrus leaves. Within two-dimensional systems, the effects caused by strain and temperature on the electronic structure of AlGaAs=GaAs multiple quantum wells oriented along [001] and [113] crystallographic directions were studied. The energy difference between light- and heavy-hole states as a function of temperature, for both crystallographic directions, was obtained from photoluminescence spectra. Using k _ p calculations, it was possible to phenomenologically explain experimental data and to show that electronic structure of quantum wells grown along [113] direction presents higher sensitivity to temperature variation. A second task in quasi-two-dimensional systems was the study of the magnetic response of neutral excitons in AlGaAs=GaAs simple quantum wells grown along [110] crystallographic direction. The Zeeman splitting and the degree of circular polarization (DCP) for the sample was extracted from circularly polarized photoluminescence spectra. Using k _ p calculations, it was possible to show that the valence band presents a high hybridization of spin states in this kind of system. To simulate the relative occupation of hybridized states, a dynamic model for spin relaxation combined with electronic structure calculations was performed. Based on theoretical results, the experimental data of the Zeeman splitting and DCP were satisfactorily and phenomenologically explained. As the last task in quasi-two-dimensional systems, the effect of in-plane magnetic field in a AlGaAs=GaAs double quantum well system was studied. As the main result, the envelope functions required for an efficient k _ p calculation in this kind of system was constructed. Concerning one-dimensional confined systems, structural properties of a twin-plane superlattice in InP nanowires were studied. The system was simulated along [111] crystallographic direction by molecular dynamics. The latter provided, besides nanowire atomic structure, stress tensor elements and elastic constants at T = 0 K. Giving the molecular dynamics results, it was possible to theoretically calculate strain tensor components and the potential profiles at the valence and conduction energy bands. The calculations showed how the strain potential profiles modulate the electronic band structure of the nanowire, generating a one-dimensional superlattice. Finally, within zero-dimensional confined systems, dynamic effects detected in the time-resolved emission from InAs quantum dots ensembles were studied. To explain the experimental behavior of the time decay as a function of quantum dots emission energy, the electron-phonon interaction, considering Fröhlich Hamiltonian model, and a carrier dynamics, that takes in account nonlinear effects such as carrier imbalance, were included in theoretically calculations. The theoretical results show that, when the system behaves like an ensemble, collective effects predominate, and different relaxation processes stand out in the system, distinguishing it from that one of isolated quantum dots. By assisting the development of the Research and Extension activities at Federal Institutes of Education, Science and Technology, this research aimed the investigation and propagation of the importance of a unit of information in the Science and Technology strengthening. The chosen methodology for the theoretical and applied research was qualitative. Its approach was sociocognitive and implemented through questionnaires as well as the realization of the Group Verbal Protocol. Three units of information from the Federal Institute of São Paulo (IFSP) were analyzed, that is, the campuses of São Paulo itself, Garulhos and Salto. The chosen methods were: the realization of a bibliographical survey as theoretical support; the realization of a survey concerning the campuses and their respective units of information; the application of questionnaires and the use of the Group Verbal Protocol technique through the involvement of its participants, that is, management, professors, students, librarians and institutional partners from each campus. Some. The result, achieved through the application of questionnaires, was the socio-historical organizational characterization of the units of information from the IFSP. Some results achieved through the application of the Group Verbal Protocol were the following: the IFSP libraries have primary infrastructure and are still at an early stage. They require systemic structuring; the IFSP libraries do not support the Research and Extension activities which are developed in their campuses; the inexistence of projects derived from the units of information of the various areas in the Research and Extension field; the lack of exchange and partnership among the units of information themselves and other IFSP departments. The findings of the achieved results show the necessity of a greater autonomy, notoriety, visibility and institutional awareness about the importance of the units of information in the socio-educational context of the IFSP. The growth and development of Science and Technology are a pretension and part of the IFSP policy. In this context, first-year university students often participate in this activity intuitively. Based on the social-interactionist and socio-rhetorical language studies, and through qualitative research method we followed the oral presentations of new incoming undergraduate students, who belong to three distinct areas of knowledge (Agricultural Science, Exact Science and Humanities Science) of a public university in the State of São Paulo, with the purpose of examining how university students acquire the discursive seminar gender. By the analysis of audio and image recordings of the students‟ presentations, semi-structured interviews withteachers, field notes and journal, we concluded that students acquire this discursive activity based on oral presentations previously known or following other literacies practices presented in the academic context.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Modulação autonômica da frequência cardíaca e sua relação com os fatores de risco e o polimorfismo do gene da ECA de pacientes com doença arterial coronariana(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2012-02-16) Kunz, Vandeni Clarice; Silva, Ester da; https://lattes.cnpq.br/9329923962755250The multifactorial nature of coronary artery disease (CAD) includes complications related to angina and acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and disorders involving sympathetic and parasympathetic cardiac autonomic modulation. The objective of this study was to evaluate the autonomic modulation of heart rate (HR) by linear and non-linear methods in healthy men and in patients with AMI and different percentages of coronary stenosis, as well as its relation with CAD risk factors. In order to evaluate heart rate variability (HRV), the HR and the RR intervals were recorded for 15 min in the supine position. Based on the results of this study, three manuscripts were written: The first manuscript presents the results of 10 men with AMI (57±9 years old) (2nd and 7th day after coronary event) and 11 healthy men (53±4 years old). The HRV analysis was carried out using linear methods in the time domain (TD=RMSSD and SDNN) and frequency domain (FD= low frequency (LF) and high frequency (HF) in normalized units (nu) and LF/HF) and using the non-linear methods approximate entropy (ApEn). A significant relationship between the linear and non-linear methods and the RMSSD, SDNN, LFun, HFun and LF/HF and ApEn indexes was observed. The linear and non-linear HRV indexes from the healthy group were higher than those of the AMI group on the 2nd and 7th days, which suggests that the analysis of HRV with linear methods in the TD and FD and the use of ApEn for linear analysis are in agreement, both for healthy subjects and patients after AMI. The second manuscript presents the results of 52 men (54±5 years old) divided into two groups with coronary obstruction CAD+ ≥ 50% (n=18) and CAD- < 50% (n=17) and one control group (n=17). HRV analysis was carried out with Shannon entropy (SE) and symbolic analysis (0V and 2ULV). The patients with DAC+ presented lower SE (complexity), 2ULV (vagal predominance) and higher 0V (sympathetic predominance) than the DAC- and control groups, which indicates that cardiac autonomic disorder is related to the degree of coronary occlusion and to cardiac impairment. The third manuscript presents the results for risk factors, ACE I/D polymorphism and the indexes in the TD and FD of 151 patients with CAD (56±8 years old, DD=54, DI=70 and II=27). The results show that there was no relation between the ACE I/D polymorphism and HR, BP or HRV. These waters are exposed to point and non-point sources of pollution, such as, atmospheric deposition, vehicle emissions and different types of waste thrown into streets and sidewalks. With storm water events, various toxics compounds are carried by surface run-off, reaching finally, into water bodies within the city. The goal of this research was to evaluate the presence of total mercury, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), heavy metals potentially toxic and acid volatile sulfide (AVS) in the hydrographic basin of Stream Barnabé. Searching environmental impact indicators on an aquatic system located at urban area of Indaiatuba, this water is captured to supply about 40.000 persons. Three points of stream were monitored, close to source, to water intake and to outfall. Water samples were collected monthly and sediments samples quarterly, between april/2010 and junho/2011. The results showed that the highest concentrations of mercury in water were observed during periods when rain interrupted the drought, due to runoff of water containing the material deposited for non-point sources in urban areas during the dry. The point next to water intake presented the highest concentrations of total-HPAs and AVS. We found that the maximums concentrations of metals were reported in setembro/2010 and junho/2011 samples and also setembro/2011 samples it found high concentrations of low molecular weight PHAs (naphthalene, acenaphthene, acenaphthylene and _etrogen) of source _etrogenico. These values were due to superficial water s flux with material deposited by nonpoint sources, accumulated during the dry season. Even though the results have shown normal impact indicators evaluated, it was denoted a vulnerability in this type of supply option, this requires an appropriate consideration in water management, such as interruption of supply, especially in times of heavy rainfall after periods of drought.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Diagnóstico para subsidiar a gestão de resíduos da construção civil na cidade de São Carlos SP(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2012-02-16) Zanutto, Talita Devides; Serra, Sheyla Mara Baptista; https://lattes.cnpq.br/8528385567782505; https://lattes.cnpq.br/3593175735681995The Construction Industry is major generator of waste and use of natural resources and, therefore, while important to the economy, is causing enormous environmental impact. Regarding the generation of waste, its impact can be minimized with reduction actions at the construction site and measures of reuse and recycling. In 2002, at the Federal, passed Resolution No. 307 of the National Council on the Environment - CONAMA - which provides guidelines, criteria and procedures for the management of construction waste, in effect as of January 2, 2003. This study aims to determine the current situation of implementing the directives of this resolution in São Carlos, from the perspective of the responsibilities inherent in the companies operating in this city. For that we adopted the strategy of case study as a research method, with a structured questionnaire for use in major construction companies active in the city of São Carlos. The methodology comprised the following stages: a literature review on waste generation, structuring the questionnaire, the questionnaire was applied to a number of companies operating in the city of São Carlos and analysis of results. As a contribution stands out the diagnosis on the implementation of guidelines and procedures recommended in CONAMA Resolution No. 307 in the city of São Carlos, emphasizing the difficulties and possible ways for this to be actually applied. The use fine motor skills to manipulate objects and perform functional needs plays a vital role in child development and participation in activities of daily living. Therefore, difficulties in fine motor skills affect school performance and undermine the child s self-esteem and the sense of competence. The objective of this study was to describe how is configured the scientific field of fine motor skills in children national and international databases. In addition, aimed at specifics to analyze the scientific parameters in bibliometric, mapping scientific production within the fine motor components related to body function, participation in activities and environmental factors. The methodology used was bibliometric analysis of the studies recovered on the databases national and international, Banco de teses da CAPES, BVS, ScienceDirect and Scopus. The methodological procedures of the study were divided into the following steps: Step 1 - Review of the literature on Human development, Child Development Motor, Occupational Therapy and Information Science, Step 2 - Data collection and systematization of data; Step 3 - Bibliometric analysis: organization and processing of bibliometric studies collected using the Vantage Point software for bibliometric analysis and MS Excel for graphing and tables for data presentation; Step 4 - Description and analysis of results, recovering the concepts exposed in the theoretical framework on which to base analysis and interpretation of data obtained. At the end of the tudy produced the following bibliometric indicators: the Banco de Teses da Capes the year of greatest production was 2002; the gender of the authors and supervisors who emphasize was the female; the formation of the majority of authors in the field of Physical Education and Physiotherapy; most studies are at Master's level; The University has more studies in the area is UDESC, in the program graduate of Human Movement Science; the funding agency that funds most work is the CAPES; majority of studies are descriptive; the scale is the most used is EDM (Rosa Neto, 2002), the theme more approached is Motor Development; and the studies perspectives have focused functions and structures of the body. Regarding the databases BVS, ScienceDirect and Scopus, the publications have grown over the years, especially 2010; with most records are of collective authorship; the formation of the authors is in Occupational Therapy (33%), Physiotherapy ( 19%) and Physical Education (15%); the predominant language is English; in BVS in the country that indexes articles is Brazil; ScienceDirect and Scopus is in the U.S.; Periodicals that stood out in the BVS was Journal Themes About the Developing; ScienceDirect was Human Movement Science, and the Scopus were Developmental Medicine & Child Neurology (8%), American Journal of OccupationalTherapy (7%) and Physical and Occupational Therapy Pediatrics (5%); and the perspectives of studies have recovered the subject of fine motor anchored in the concepts of structure and functions of the body in three bases (56% - BVS, 69% - ScienceDirect, 71% Scopus); most studies are crosssectional nature (94%) and descriptive (81%); the topics most discussed were: fine motor skills (75%), motor development (35%) children (28%), preschool (27 %) and rating scales (21%); the data collection instruments more used in the articles were tests of fine motor skills not standardized (22%), followed by Scale Peabody (12%), test of motor proficiency of Bruininks-Oseretsky (7%) and M-ABC (7 %); identifies the subject of fine motor related especially with motor development (7%), autism (5%), prematurity (5%) and school context (5%).listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Expressão de proteína antiviral de lonomia obliqua em sistema baculovírus/célula de inseto(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2012-02-16) Carmo, Ana Carolina Viegas; Mendonça, Ronaldo Zucatelli; https://lattes.cnpq.br/0886073943430823; https://lattes.cnpq.br/5993626657930796In recent years, the technology animal cells culture has allowed the development of many byproducts, especially those with pharmacological interest. Some of these products, the recombinant proteins, can be produced by heterologous expression systems on a commercial scale. Bacteria, yeast, mammalian cells and insects are some of the hosts used in these processes. As source of proteins with farmacological interest, the catterpillar Lonomia obliqua hemolinph was demonstrated to be a helpful organismo. Antiviral, antiapoptotic, antimicrobial and inducing growth proteins, are some of examples. Since the control of viral infections is a major interest to public health, the searching for new antiviral drugs has utmost importance. Several studies have reported the presence of active principles in the arthropods hemolymph. Recently, we demonstrated the existence of an antiviral protein in the hemolymph of the caterpillar Lonomia obliqua. This purified protein induced viral production reduction (TCID50 mL-1) over 157 times in cells infected with the measles virus, 61 times for polio and 61 times for influenza virus H1N1 infections. Thus, the present goals were building and expression of a recombinant plasmid contained coding sequences for expression of viral proteins (using baculovirus) in insect cell Sf-9 system. By this process, it was aimed to test biological activity of the protein. Further sequence analyses of this protein were performed using bioinformatics tools. The RNA of L. obliqua was extracted with Trizol reagent. RNA product was used in RT-PCR reactions with primers specific for the antiviral protein, based on the sequence of the cDNA libraries of L. obliqua tegument and spines, using all possible frame of translation for each cDNA. Restriction sites were inserted in cDNA sequence to insert it in pFastBacTM1 donor vector (Invitrogen). The sequence contained in selected clone of Escherichia coli DH5α was used for transformation into E. coli DH10Bac to obtain a bacmid by transposition process. This bacmid was used for antiviral recombinant protein expression in Sf-9 cells. This recombinant protein activity was tested in Picorna (EMC enchephalomiocardite), Rubeola and Herpes virus. In these trials, it was observed a replication reduction of 10,000, 10,000 and 1,000000 times, respectively. The bioinformatics analysis demonstrated that this protein is secreted, globular and probably belongs to a new class of proteins.
