The last two decades have brought changes to the state of São Paulo when it comes to public safety. The prison system in particular has undergone significant structural and functional changes. These transformations include: the large expansion plan of the prison system promoted by the state government; the exorbitant growth of the prison population; and birth and hegemony of PCC (First Command of the Capital) within the system. The proposal presented here is the study of the action of the government of São Paulo in the area of public safety front the actions of the First Command of the Capital inside and outside of prisons, to understand both the PCC phenomenon, as the reasons that made possible the emergence and strengthening this group precisely in the state of São Paulo.

The chronic low back pain can cause a deficit in the quality of life, which commits daily activities, employment, social, leisure and causes emotional damage. This study justified the need for greater knowledge in the perception of chronic low back pain in our context and on its impact on daily life, reinforcing the importance of the measurement and assessment of pain in enabling the treatment effectiveness. This study aims to evaluate patients with chronic low back pain and specific objectives of socio-demographically that characterize these patients, to identify the level of quality of life, the level of disability, the level of depression, the intensity of perceived pain and characterize chronic low back pain through the pain descriptors and associate quality of life and pain intensity, quality of life and depression, depression and intensity of pain, disability and intensity of pain, disability and quality of life, disability and depression. A cross-sectional descriptive study was performed. The convenience sample consisted of patients treated as outpatients in a Pain Clinic of São Carlos, Brazil and everyone had the medical diagnosis of chronic low back pain. The data collection was accomplished by structured interviews using the following instruments: instrument to characterize demographic and socio-economic status of the patient; numeric scale (0-10) to measure the intensity of pain; BDI - Beck Depression Inventory for assess the level of depression; WHOQOL-BREF to assess quality of life, Roland-Morris Questionnaire for disability and the Multidimensional Pain Evaluation Scale (EMADOR) an instrument for descriptors of pain for the characterization of chronic pain. The study included 97 subjects, the pain intensity at the moment of interview was 5,4 (2,9) and the mean quality of life was 48,1 (24,2 ) points. The physical domain of quality of life was the most affected with 44,1 (21) points, the mean of disability was 14,4 (6) and the average score of depression was 15,3 (9,6), with 21,6% of the sample had some level of depression. There was a strong association between the physical domain of quality of life and disability. The associations between depression and pain intensity were considered weak. The associations between depression and quality of life domains showed moderate negative correlations with the physical and psychological domains of quality of life and between depression and disability correlated moderate positively. The descriptors that best describe the pain were classified as sensitive and evaluative. These findings indicate that people with chronic low back pain may possibly have other dimensions affected by pain that not only the physical, and thus, health professionals need to perform a comprehensive assessment of pain perception in order to propose their appropriate management.

The watershed river region that makes up the landscape of the Pardo s watershed has characteristics that make it interesting for the application of landscape studies, since, over the centuries, has been undergoing significant transformations physicalenvironmental and socio-territorial resulting in periods of high participation in the economy of Rio Grande do Sul and even the country (XVIII century), followed by a period of stagnation, beginning in the XIX century and extends to the contemporary. At the dawn of the XXI century, this region faces new challenges of environmental and territorial nature, which materialize in the monoculture of rice, the beef cattle industry and the possibility of reopening the port. The research reported here a historical part of which is to present the specific construction of the state territory - construction that is strongly linked to the city that gives its name to watershed studied - Rio Pardo. This approach aims to highlight how the landscape shapes and reacts to development options or how the rationality of capital ownership and is responsible for the production of space. The methodological procedures, based geospatial allowed the qualitative and quantitative analysis of the landscape for the time interval of twenty-two years, which allowed the physical characterization of the river basin (thematic maps of the drainage network, clinografia, and uses hipsometria land for the years 1989, 2000 and 2011) as well as the use of indices for understanding the changes that have shaped the landscape over the years - fragmentation and urbanity. The results indicate that the story and the speed of the process of deforestation associated with the expansion of agriculture, livestock and forestry are considerably modifying the dynamics of the forest or seminatural vegetation remaining in the landscape Pardo s watershed, and such processes are rarely accompanied appropriate conservation strategies. The condition of the remaining natural vegetation Pardo s watershed factors before direct and indirect pressure has to be especially problematic from the standpoint of conservation in the face of evidence of loss of natural landscape. Although the loss of the fragments of natural vegetation in the period from 1989 to 2011, with the replacement of these systems changed by man, is negligible, there is no evidence of the continuation of this trend. With the continued anthropogenic processes the primary question is directed to define the size of the area of natural vegetation in each municipality, inserted within the limits of the Pardo s watershed, which can be converted (changed) for human use, in relation to the condition minimum natural landscape ensured by the existence of functional natural ecosystems. That is, what areas/fragments should be preserved or restored strategically to be reduced pressures on the remaining biodiversity in a given region Pardo s watershed, with the expectation that they are reinstated or provided goods and ecosystem services provided to welfare human. The analyzes in the broad sense, present one of the possible paths to the objectification of subjective relationships established between water, people and landscapes in the Pardo s watershed.

The adoption and the organization of a new a production system reproduces changes not only to the work organization, but for people involved in this environment. From the second half of the twentieth century, in answer to the depletion of mass production system, lean production system comes at Toyota, the company localized in Japan. This production model has the main characteristics like wastes reduction, quality continuous improvement, work processes flexibility, team building, besides others aspects that provided the answer to the market request. Several scholars defect lean production as the production model capable that provides a better work environment for the workers, with better organization and a professional qualification increase. Other theorists, however, consider lean production as a new model of work intensification, with practices that, although they advocate the qualification increase, lean production increases the work rhythm and the work responsibility. This dissertation aims to confront this theorical duality existing among the lean production scholars in the literature with a case study on the workers perception about the adoption of the lean production tools in a metalworking company. As a result of this case study, the workers indicate positive and negative effects. The positive effects show the work improvement with the chance to learn new functions (multifunctionality), the introduction of new technologies, the possibility to learn knowledge of new production techniques, a work organization rearrangement, a better sector organization (5S Program), the possibility of participating in kaizen (factory), and the change in the physical work environment (the transformation of the cell layout). The negative effects mentioned were these: the increased of the workload, the work rhythm and work pressure, they generated by the new organization, the withdrawal of some intervals of work, lack of wage increases. Some suggestions are left for companies that will adopt the tools of lean production, that will contribute to the success of this adoption: to introduce new concepts, you need to add the workers since the beginning of the process, so they can participate better in the process; you need to elucidate with clarity and transparency the objectives of each change, and what is expected of each employee, because many of them can consider the lean production as something negative because they don´t know the lean production goals and consequences.

The Laranjinha Indigenous Land, located in northern Paraná, went through an intense devastation of its natural resources in the 1950s for logging and expansion of agricultural areas and pasture. However, in view of environmental, cultural, social and economic factors, the community decided, in the late 1990s, to perform a management in specific areas aiming the forest restoration. With strict control of fire and not planting any seedlings, they began to handle some pasture lands to allow natural regeneration. Thus, the present study analyzes the process of forest restoration in the Laranjinha Indigenous Land, trying to understand the different aspects involved. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to raise information, as well as incursions into the restored areas to identify their stages of ecological succession and some key species. The ArcGIS software was used for mapping and conducting a quantitative analysis of the classified areas. Currently, the Indigenous Land is at an intermediate stage of environmental adequacy. After a 15-year period, there was an increase of almost 10 times in its forest cover: from 10.6 hectares (3.6% of the total area) to 101.9 hectares (35% of the total area). The (re) created forest allows an increase in subsistence resources and contributes to the maintenance and redefinition of their cultural identity, values and traditions, strongly related to the forest.

This paper deals with the perception of animal welfare (WF) on the part of consumers and agents in the organic egg production sector in the state of São Paulo. The technical conditions at poultry farms were assessed based on protocol requirements oriented towards animal welfare (Laywel, Welfare Quality®, Globalgap) and organic production (Regulatory Instruction 46/2011/Ministry of Agriculture, Cattle-Raising and Supply). Through semistructured interviews the perception and level of information on the subject, as well as the difficulties found by the production process agents were assessed. By crossing information gathered at the interviews and from WF evaluation at poultry farms, some technical gaps in organic handling and implementation of WF-enhancing practices were found. As regards the WF concept, all agents find it relevant within their own universe of comprehension and values (ethical, sanitary and economic). At poultry farms with over 5000 hens, the WF conditions are satisfactory, supported by technical assistance, good facilities and financial conditions for investment. Poultry farms with up to 2000 hens, in turn, show poor infrastructure and handling, face financial restraints and lack technical assistance, thereby putting WF at risk. It can be seen that the consistency between the agents´ views and actual WF practices is directly linked to knowledge of the subject. Where there are gaps in this knowledge the impact on WF and sanitary, nutritional and environmental weaknesses cannot be recognized or measured. Training of these production sector´s agents in concepts and practices capable of covering the full scope (ethical, sanitary and viii economic) of WF is proposed, so that the solutions and adjustments for WF problems can be discussed and implemented on a sound knowledge basis. As for consumers of organic products, the results of interviews show lack of information on WF. Also in this case, working on people´s awareness and education on the subject is suggested. This is because well informed and capable of distinguishing and valuing the various production systems, consumers and society as a whole can make differentiated consumption decisions aimed at improving husbandry methods.

The study evaluated the growth of tambaqui, Colossoma macropomum with the inclusion of different concentrations of flour in the feed mango (20, 30, 40 and 50%) and reduction of protein (38, 33, 28 and 23%). To conduct the study, we used 240 fish in 12 separate lots, with four treatments and three repetitions each, delineated entirely random. The average weight was 5.21 g, 5.24 g, 5.19 g and 4.99 g respectively. The experiment lasted 56 days, biometrics being held regularly. Diets were fed daily and the fish were fed ad libitum. Were analyzed in relation to the performance of the following variables: specific growth rate TCE (%), biomass gain (GB), feed conversion rate (FCR), survival analysis, metabolic profile and activity of digestive enzyme. Burger tambaqui was prepared with flour adding mango concentrations: 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20% with subsequent sensory analysis. The statistic used was ANOVA, Tukey test at 5% and polynomial regression. To evaluate the sensory analysis was calculated referring to the overall quality attributes such as appearance, color, flavor, odor and texture. The performance variables showed a significant effect, with superior results with the highest concentration in the rations of flour, sleeves and lower protein. The final average weight was R20: 8.65 g; R30: 8.81 g; R40: 8.68 g; R50: 11.39 g. From the analysis of the metabolic profiles of glucose, hepatic glycogen, amino acids and total cholesterol was noted that no mobilization of metabolites to maintain the energy in the processes for fish growth. It is concluded that the best performance of tambaquis occurs with the inclusion of 50% flour and sleeve 23% protein. The metabolic profile of the fish is positively affected by protein replacement meal by mango. You can include up to 5% of flour in the preparation of mango burger tambaqui.

The major media conglomerates consolidated from the 1980s invest heavily on franchises captained by blockbusters movies and a wide range of products derived from them, in search of larger profits in the worldwide entertainment market. This study aims to analyze the marketing characteristics of franchises produced by major media conglomerates. In intend to do so, notes and appointments are made on the Star Wars film franchise, referred to as a kind of genesis for the franchise business model that the entertainment industry practices today. Star Wars created a paradigm in the production process of the Hollywood studios, combining filmic creativity with product marketing practices for disclosure and especially the development of strategic marketing licensing and merchandising of products that carry its brand. Through the analysis of the narrative structure of the Star Wars movies, creative tools used in the development of the story and its characters are identified showing possible paths for creating extensions and sequences that allow the expansion of several derived products across multiple platforms, building the media franchise.

We did this experiment in the Corumbataí river Basin, São Paulo, southeastern Brazil (22°41'28" S e 47°56'15'' O). In this Basin, the original phytophysiognomies were dramatically reduced; nowadays the native ecosystems are represented by small and fragmented seasonal semideciduous forest communities. Although these forests are very degraded, they represent the last forest remnants of this region. So, the conservation of their alfa and beta diversity should begin through description of their woody species composition. In this sense, the objective of this experiment was to describe the composition of trees and shrubs in the edges of seasonal semideciduous forests that are inserted in matrices of sugar cane and in consolidated pastures. We aimed to verify if different sources of disturbances may promote distinctive successional pathways, related to particular composition and structure between the forests inserted in sugar cane matrices, and those inside the consolidated pasture ones. We sampled 12 forest fragments in a systematical way , through sixty 8 m x 30 m plots (total sampled area: 1.44 ha) - 30 plots in sugar cane matrices, and 30 plots in pastures matrices (five plots per forest). We sampled the plants with the perimeter at breast height (PBH) equal or higher than 15 cm. We compared the floristic composition and structure between forest remnants by similarity dendrograms and ANOVA. We sampled 1,990 plants, belonging to 163 species (46 families). The forest communities presented low floristic similarity; we observed no significant differences in the structural patterns among the 12 forest fragments. These results indicate that both composition and structure of those communities were not related to the nature of the agricultural matrices. We also observed that the 12 communities have high values of diversity, despite they are inserted in a very modified landscape; such a result refers to their conservation. In this sense, we think that actions related to ecological management in landscape scale, and ecological restoration practices to improve the ecosystemic atributes of the seasonal semideciduous forests from Corumbataí river Basin are necessary.

Early identification of risk factors for changes in development enables the implementation process of early intervention and prevention of aggravations. Among these risk factors are prematurity. Prematurity is considered the main cause of death, morbidity and disability for children, triggering a series of risk factors for development, leading to the emergence of several clinical problems, being an important risk factor for the vision development. Among the problems presented by the premature newborn is Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP), a vasoproliferative disease and leading cause of infant blindness. This research aimed to identify studies on ROP consolidated in theses and dissertations and scientific articles produced in Brazil in view of construct bibliometric indicators enabling to describe and analyze the scientific production from the perspective of Special Education. To develop the study, was used the methodological approach of bibliometrics from searches for pre-defined keywords. Theses and dissertations from thesis Bank of CAPES and scientific papers present in SciELO database were investigated, focused in Retinopathy of Prematurity. A total of 41 theses and dissertations and 33 articles were located, being the studies classified according to the nature, in principal and secondary. The results reveal that most of the studies on theses and dissertations related to subject of ROP are concentrated in Southeast region of Brazil. The interest in ROP research increased over the years, however these studies focus still in biomedical area, with newborns. A lack of studies in education area was identified, especially in Special Education. Is suggested the development of future studies in this field with children of different ages, in order to identify the impact of ROP on literacy / education of these children.

Mg-based nanocomposites are considered promising materials for hydrogen storage in the solid state. In this work, Mg-based nanocomposites containing iron-based (Fe, Fe2O3, FeF3) and niobium-based (Nb, Nb2O5, NbF5) additives were processed by different processing routes involving high energy ball milling and severe plastic deformation techniques. The high energy ball milling techniques are represented here by the reactive milling under hydrogen atmosphere and by the cryogenic milling while the severe plastic deformation technique is represented here by extensive cold rolling. An alternative processing route including a previous short ball milling step before the cold rolling processing was evaluated. The study of the effect of additives according to the chosen processing routes and an extensive characterization of the hydrogen storage properties allowed a better understanding on the mechanisms which are responsible by the kinetics improvements related to the microstructural particularities. The materials prepared by the different processing techniques were characterized by micro and nanostructural analysis techniques such as, among others, x-ray diffraction followed by the Rietveld method, scanning and transmission electron microscopy. The desorption behavior was studied by differential scanning calorimetry and the kinetic behavior was investigated by absorption and desorption cycles. The correlation of the results obtained with the different processing routes showed that the beneficial effect of the additives in promoting the H-sorption kinetics is positively extended independently of the processing route; however, the acting mechanisms depend on strictly on the preparation methods and the combination of one or more factor related to the microstructure. Furthermore, the severe plastic deformation techniques showed a very good potential in comparison with the high energy ball milling techniques in processing Mg-based nanocomposites, resulting in materials with good hydrogen storage properties.

This paper aims to discuss the mathematical Olympiads in terms of Bourdieu's theory, seeking demonstrate valorization strategies and adoption of the field of mathematics linked to social practices related to OBMEP. The concepts of field and symbolic capital were used for analysis of research papers in order to understand the mathematical Olympiads as a strategy for appreciate mathematical fields as well as a kind of normative evaluation. This paper promotes a discussion about the alleged role of social inclusion attributed to these competitions. The research is a qualitative approach and involved the preparation of a history of the Mathematical Olympiads, literature research and document analysis. Bourdieu's theory may us understand that the field of mathematics has sufficient capital to reward and recruit talent while it naturalizes, through this process, the ideology of the gift and the inculcation of a cultural arbitrary on the technological and scientific development, which is linked to factors and interests of the economic field. This critical view for the Olympiads can contribute to the expansion of studies in the field of mathematics education in relation to school evaluation and the symbolic value of mathematics, looking this as a kind of symbolic mechanism of domination, valorization and conservation of the field of mathematics. Then OBMEP can be understood as the manifestation of an alliance between the scientifical and political field, which simultaneously establishes the mathematical culture and corroborates the economic interests.

Diverse factors can compromise the growth and development of individuals including preterm birth. The literature from the area has indicated that children born prematurely may present altered growth and development, mental retardation and learning disabilities. Thus, preterm birth has been studied in diverse scientific fields including Special Education. In this field the studies focus on primary, secondary and tertiary attention, thus contributing to the prevention of deficiencies, to education strategies and to intervention procedures. The present research aims to verify what composes the field of preterm-birth studies in Brazil, from the Capes Thesis Registry, and also to assess the scientific collaboration networks at the intersection between Special Education and preterm births. The study is structured into two steps denominated Study 1 and Study 2. Study 1 corresponds to bibliometric analysis of scientific production on premature birth available in the Capes Theses Database with the objective of reporting the State of the Art in producing knowledge on this theme as reflected in Brazilian theses and dissertations. The methodology of Study 1 was developed in five steps: step 1: construction of a theoretical reference by reading the scientific texts from the areas of Special Education, Information Science and Preterm Birth to provide a scientific basis for the research; step 2: data collection sourced from abstracts of theses and dissertations available in the Capes Theses Database that presented the preterm topic, between 1987 and 2009; step 3: organization, treatment and construction of bibliometric indicators from the registries; step 4: analysis and interpretation of the results found, capturing the concepts exposed in the theoretical reference on scientific production on preterm birth to underpin the analyses of the data obtained. Study 2 corresponds to preterm-birth scientific collaboration networks in the Special Education field. The method of Study 2 involved identification of registries belonging to the Graduate Programs or research lines in Special Education. It was possible to identify 10 registries pertaining to the Graduate Program in Special Education of the Federal University of Sao Carlos and two linked to the Graduate Programs in Education, with research line directed toward Special Education, representing, respectively, the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) and Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM). From these twelve registries were selected the curricula of the professors directing the theses and dissertations to compose the scientific collaboration network. The results of Study 1 reveal: increase in scientific production involving the topic during the study period (1987 to 2009); the production is mostly represented by Masters theses; the most highlighted institution was the University of Sao Paulo, rendering the southeast the most prominent region of the country. In relation to the large areas of knowledge, scientific production on preterm birth is concentrated in the Health Sciences area linked to programs in Medicine and Nursing. CAPES, CNPq and FAPESP were the primary funding agencies. As to the gender of thesis and dissertation authors, 79.8% are female and 20.2% male. It was also found that the predominant risk conception is medical/biological while the predominant study locations were neonatal intensive treatment units. The most frequent objectives were studies on aspects of breastfeeding, nutrition, suckling, weaning, periodontal diseases and milk composition. The majority of these studies were directed at preterm cases of gestational time from 31 to 34 weeks and with very low weight (>1500g). The results of Study 2 revealed that production via partnership, identified in the analyzed interface, is a trend in the academic environment; there are few relationships among the advisors or among the institutions that participated in the present study; as a counterpart, within the groups formed, we observed not only scientific collaboration between the different institutions but also a strong relationship between the advisor and advisee. The results presented herein contributed to a portrayal of the field of preterm-birth studies in Brazil which enables visualization of the potentialities and gaps in this knowledge area, to motivate researchers to seek new data sources, and when relevant and desirable, collaborative partnerships between research group and institutions.

The public position filled by appointment directly affects the governability and governance in the Brazilian political system, either for maintenance of a stable parliamentary basis or for the formulation and implementation of effective public policies. In the current democratic scenario, the appointment of policy makers with political responsibility and technical capability becomes a key element to the success of the government and enlarges its chance of electoral success. This work argues that the appointment criteria which were used by political parties have clear influence in the increase or decrease of the respective success electoral rates; from this perspective, the electoral result of the parties in the state of São Paulo in the post-redemocratization is here shown. Lastly, in a local case study, the appointment criteria which were used by mayors from parties whose programming and ideological fields are distinct will be shown.

The Dekasegi Phenomenon reveals a migratory flow that has caused suffering in the Japanese Brazilian community by fragmenting several families, with second and third generation descendants migrating to Japan, leaving behind parents, children and/or wives in Brazil. In this context we face several changes of previous roles and functions of each family member at home, forcing these people to overcome the distance and change their routines at home, rising questions to ponder in Social Anthropology, especially in its Kinship Theories. Characterized in contemporary Anthropological Theory as transnational families precisely for being constituted of members living apart in more than one country, dekasegi families live with a paradox and are still little studied in Anthropology: a series of economic, cultural, political, and other reasons makes it necessary for family members to be separated and sent to another country in order to keep the family united. This research proposes a study of dekasegi families living in Hamamatsu city, Shizuoka, known for being home to one of the largest contingents of Brazilians living in Japan. The main objective of this thesis is to shed light on how these Japanese Brazilians build their relationships not only with one another but also with family members left behind in Brazil aiming a better understanding of the internal dynamics of this migratory flow that has lasted for more than 20 years.

Time series forecasting is probably one of the most primordial interests on economics and econometrics, and the literature on this subject is extremely vast. Due to technological growth in recent decades, large amounts of time series are daily collected; which, in a first moment, it requires forecasts according a fixed horizon; and on the second moment the forecasts must be constantly updated, making it impractical to human interaction. Towards this direction, computational procedures that are able to model and return accurate forecasts are required in several research areas. The search for models with high predictive power is an issue that has resulted in a large number of publications in the area of forecasting models. We propose to do a theorical and applied study of forecasting methods applied to multiple univariate time series. The study was based on exponential smoothing via state space approach, automatic ARIMA methods and the generalized Theta method. Each model and method were applied in large data bases of univariate time series and the forecast errors were evaluated. We also propose an approach to estimate the Theta coefficients, as well as a redefinition of the method regarding the number of decomposition lines, extrapolation methods and a combining approach.

This narrative describes the attitudinal, psychomotor and cognitive, personal and professional, mobilized by the experience with the Educational Unit of Professional Practice of the UFSCar Medicine Course. It was not an easy path and pedagogically below expectations. However, the balance was positive in terms of personal growth, development of skills such as adaptation and resilience, as well as for the development of a special doctor-patient relationship.
