Item type:Item, Avaliação do potencial de corrosão de armaduras em concretos com substituição parcial do agregado miúdo pela areia de cinza do bagaço da cana-de-açúcar - ACBC(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2013-01-25) ;Almeida, Fernando do Couto Rosa ;Sales, Almir ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/7377787166073311https://lattes.cnpq.br/2303805462606634Brazil is the world's largest producer of sugarcane and the leading exporter of its derivatives (sugar, alcohol, energy etc.). One of the main waste generated in the manufacturing process of this sector is the sugarcane bagasse ash sand (SBAS), produced from the burning of bagasse into boilers to produce electricity (cogeneration). This ash sand is composed of a high amount of silica and it is also currently discarded in cane plantations as organic fertilizer, despite the fact that it is poor in nutrients. This research proposes to provide an alternative application of SBAS in concrete as a replacement material for fine aggregate. Furthermore, the durability of concrete with alternative materials demands a special attention, especially regarding reinforcement corrosion. This is a major concern of the use of wastes on the degradation of concrete structures. The process begins with the despassivation of steel reinforcement, and it propagates in a suitable environment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential occurrence of reinforcement corrosion in concrete made with SBAS as a partial replacement material for fine aggregate. The ash sand samples were collected in a plant in the State of São Paulo, and standardized through a sieving and grinding. The SBAS was subjected to physical and chemical characterization, by its chemical composition, sieve analysis, powdery material, absorption, bulk density and true density. Mortars and concretes were produced with levels of substitution of 0% (reference), 30% and 50% of SBAS. In mortars, tests of compressive strength, porosity (void index and pores analysis by optical microscopy), water absorption, accelerated carbonation, chloride penetration and electrical conductivity of the aqueous solution were performed. The concretes were submitted to tests of compressive strength, void index, absorption, chloride penetration, potential and rate of reinforcement corrosion. Thus, the results indicated that substitution of 30% and 50% by SBAS can increase the compressive strength of concrete and the resistance to attack by chlorides, and decrease the despassivation probability of reinforcement. However, with the content of 50% of SBAS, the corrosion rate was significantly higher in comparison to other samples, and it was similar between the concretes with 30% of SBAS and reference. Thus, it was possible to conclude that the concrete with 30% of SBAS as a substitute of fine aggregate may be applied in conventional structural elements without loss of mechanical and durability performance.Item type:Item, Indicadores de circulação do acervo na Biblioteca Comunitária da UFSCar(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2013-01-25) ;Ninin, Débora Marroco ;Amaral, Roniberto Morato do ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/6958372164719600https://lattes.cnpq.br/0665489360444494The emergence of new technologies and process automation of libraries and information centers open new possibilities for studies of uses and users within these environments. Item type:Item, Entre autoritarismo e diálogo: a democracia como processo na gestão escolar(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2013-01-28) ;Gomes, Ronaldo Martins ;Luiz, Maria Cecíliahttps://lattes.cnpq.br/7425361719028650This dissertation aimed to understand the relationship between public school and democracy, mediated by democratic management, the perspective of school managers, believing that democratic development in society comes through participation spaces, with decisions. It reflected on the importance of democracy and its significance in the context of school relations, taking into account that it is an epistemological problem as much as a political enigma seizing axes articulators of public policy. Had the mainspring three concerns: the extent to which the managers interviewed established democratic practices in school management? In what areas? How these practices were considered democratic, and how they strengthened? In the empirical part we selected a city located in São Paulo, midsize, called Rio Claro. It set up a sample of ten managers, with whom semi-structured interviews were conducted. Presented a study on democracy, from the economic, political and social that characterize modernity, with reflections on modern liberal democracy; Theory of Communicative Action and the transformations that characterize modernity, according to Jurgen Habermas, and a panorama of relations that characterize the formation of the state and of Brazilian politics. It was understood that the managers interviewed were creating democratic practices in school management, to stimulate dialogue and hosting, while listening demands, respect for differences, singularities and interests in the school daily, to share decisions and responsibilities to respect the limits of the functions and duties of a member in the hierarchy of the workplace, to pursue work together, the use of "instruments" as simple questionnaire for families of students, the flexibility of schedules to attendance of parents and family, participation and training partnership between school and family for the benefit of students, the collective construction of PPP as an approximation between the school and community. These actions allowed us to understand how managers understood to be enabling democratic practices in school, the school administration and school linking democracy. The spaces for these actions were: meetings HTPC; APM meetings, meetings with parents or guardians; "politics of coffee" etc.. Despite the respondents did not indicate a reference or a theorist of democracy in particular, it was possible to see that realized, procedurally, a democratic relationship within the school and interpersonal relationships.Item type:Item, Efeitos do treinamento muscular inspiratório e da cinesioterapia respiratória na capacidade de exercício, sincronia tóraco-abdominal e na função muscular respiratória em pacientes com DPOC(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2013-01-28) ;Basso, Renata Pedrolongo ;Costa, Dirceuhttps://lattes.cnpq.br/6419696729541090The present thesis has a result three studies in which the aims were: Study I To propose an assessment method of inspiratory muscle endurance (IME) using the traditional manuvacuometry and the PowerBreathe® device. Moreover, the aim was to verify its viability in patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and healthy. Study II To compare the inspiratory muscle training (IMT) and respiratory exercise (RE) effects associated with physical training (PT) regarding to strength and endurance gain of inspiratory muscles, thoracoabdominal mobility, physical exercise capacity and dyspnea during physical efforts in patients with COPD. In additional, it was to verify if there is a relation of changing gained post training among these variables. Study III To verify if the IMT and/or RE modality associated to PT can provide changes in inspiratory muscle strength, in thoracoabdominal asynchronism and dyspnea at rest and during unsupported upper limb (UL) exercises. Additionally, it was to verify if there is a difference between these both technics modalities. The total sample was composed of 19 healthy subjects and 25 patients with COPD; 13 in the GPT+IMT group and 12 in the GPT+RE. All subjects were assessed before and after training by spirometry; measures of maximum inspiratory (MIP) and expiratory pressures (MEP), IME test, in which was determined the sustained maximum inspiratory pressure (SMIP) and the limit time (Tlim), cirtometry, sixminute walking test (6MWT) and treadmill exercise test (TT). Moreover, reported the modified Medical Research Council (mMRC) and the assessment of respiratory inductance plethysmography (RIP). The IME test was well tolerated. The MIP, MIP %pred, SMIP and SMIP/MIP values were significant lower (p<0.05) in patient with COPD. There was no significant difference between COPD and healthy subjects regarding to Tlim. In the GPT+IMT the MIP, SMIP, abdominal mobility values were significant higher (p<0.05); and, the dyspnea was significantly lower in the 6MWTpeak, TT and mMRC post treatment. However, in both groups there was a significant rise of MIP and SMIP, thoracoabdominal mobility, 6MWD and inclination at TT; and, fall of dyspnea at 6MWTpeak (p<0.05). Only in the GPT+IMT there was a decreased of thoracoabdominal asynchronism at rest and during UL exercises. The PowerBreathe® device associated with the manovacuometry makes acceptable the IME test in patients with COPD and healthy subjects, specially using the incremental load. Both technics increased the exercise capacity and decrease dyspnea at efforts clinically significant. Although, due to the training specificity, only the IMT group was able to improve the inspiratory strength and endurance, which results in a pronounced reduction of dyspnea and thoracoabdominal asynchronism at rest and during UL exercises.Item type:Item, Qualidade da informação: o caso da organização prestadora de serviços baseados em informação(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2013-01-28) ;Silva, Antonio Carlos Santos ;Amaral, Roniberto Morato do ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/6958372164719600https://lattes.cnpq.br/5499233462344572Information has become essential for organizational performance and more rational and sustainable decision-making about work processes and competitive in the organizational context. It was considered the auto parts companies as appropriate to investigate this topic, as they are forced to adopt many of the methods investigated. We chose the survey procedure using the database of member companies of Sindipeças, an association of auto parts producers, in 2010. In total, 388 companies were contacted and received the questionnaire. Of these, 95 returned the questionnaire answered. The main results observed were that methods of operations management listed in the questionnaire were adopted by companies surveyed and, in most cases, there was involvement of workers. It was also observed that the cases of adoption of methods without the involvement of workers were more discontinued.Item type:Item, Orientação acadêmica e profissional dos estudantes universitários com deficiência: perspectivas internacionais(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2013-01-29) ;Cabral, Leonardo Santos Amâncio ;Mendes, Enicéia Gonçalveshttps://lattes.cnpq.br/5306031040506357The exponential increase of students with disabilities enrolled at universities of different countries has urged these institutions to enable some services geared to their guidance, both academic and professional level. However, the international literature shows that these initiatives, in some realities, are still disconnected from the broader socio-economic context. This can significantly inhibit opportunities which would allow tertiary students to put in practice their professionalism for the benefit of the society. In order to find possible solutions to this problem, in principle identified empirically in Brazil by the researcher, the objective of this research was to explore, in an international level, initiatives related to the academic and professional guidance of students with disabilities. In this direction has been realized this case study on the field, which results was presented in three parts, according to the conditions, participants, temporality and methods adopted: a) Longitudinal descriptive case study in Italy: during three years, in condition of full immersion at Disability Services of University of Rome Foro Italico it was put in place an empirical proposal on academic and professional guidance which involved 20 students with disabilities enrolled in three italian universities, through the implementation of objective strategies and specific tools of observation, evaluation and monitoring, with the participation of 4 academic tutor and 20 career tutor; b) Exploratory case study in England and France: during the international mobility provided by the Doctor Europeaus, during three months were carried out observation activities and given interviews to academic and career tutors of two French universities and two British universities. c) Exploratory Case Study in Denmark and Ireland: through active participation in the project Univers'Emploi of the European program Leonardo da Vinci, were realized technical visits in locus and transnational meetings with the heads of Disability Services of the Danish and Irish Universities which allowed the collection of data through observation and anedoctal records. The overall analysis of the results emerged from this research has allowed to identify, in an international perspective, the strengths of each reality explored. The reflections on these elements have directed the proposition of indicators which can contribute to the scientific and university community on the implementation, evaluation and monitoring of a potential academic and professional guidance program for tertiary students with disabilities.Item type:Item, Estudos biológicos e ecológicos da interação entre Nephila clavipes (Araneae, nephilidae) e o parasitoide Hymenoepimecis bicolor (Hymenoptera, Ichneumonidae, pimplinae)(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2013-01-30) ;Sobczak, Jober Fernando ;Dias, Angélica Maria Penteado Martins ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/8637344058859147https://lattes.cnpq.br/1177030761488272Parasitoid wasps may use a wide variety of arthropods as food for their larvae. Among koinobiont species, whose development of the parasitoid does not disrupt the normal activities of the host, there is a group of wasps that exclusively uses spiders as hosts. In Polysphincta group (Hymenoptera, Ichneumonidae, Pimplinae), some species are able to change their hosts behavior before turning into pupa. These behavioral changes that are possibly responsible for an increase in the probability of survival of the parasitoid, are rare in this type of interaction. In this study, which was divided into four chapters, the interaction between the spider Nephila clavipes (Araneae, Nephilidae) and Hymenoepimecis bicolor wasp (Hymenoptera, Ichneumonidae, Pimplinae) are described in detail. In the first chapter we describe the attack and oviposition behavior of H. bicolor, that starts with the wasp flying around the N. clavipes web. Then the wasp attacks inserting the ovipositor into the mouth and paralyzing the spider at the center of the web. Females H. bicolor emerge from larger spiders while males emerge from smaller spiders. Apparently the wasp is able to estimate the size of the host and decide whether or not to fertilize the egg to be laid down in the spider. In the second chapter, we found the frequency of parasitism in N. clavipes for H. bicolor and also verify the choice of the host size, can be directly related to a trade-off between size and risk of injury. The ecdysis is not able to remove the parasitoid larva which remains attached to the spider body. Furthermore, we note that six days before the ecdysis, so in the period of pre-ecdysis, there is a decrease in the number of rays and turns, causing a decrease in the web size. The changed web built by spiders in the preecdysis is very similar to the modified web built by spiders parasitized days before being killed by the parasitoid larva. xi The third chapter describes the influence of the architecture of the modified webs and the normal ones on the survival of pupa of H. bicolor. In normal webs the pupa survival is greatly affected and in most of the observations cocoons fell in the soil or suffered other kind damage. In another experiment, we removed the third instar larva in the moment that the spider began to build the modified web and we found that after removing the larva the spider start building its standard web. Thus, our goal was to verify if that the larva injects substances that induce the spider to build a web modified. In the final chapter the immature stages of the H. bicolor are described by observing morphological and behavioral characteristics in each stageItem type:Item, Preparação, caracterização e aplicação de eletrodos de nanotubos de carbono na determinação de Cr(III), Cr(VI) e flavonoides(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2013-01-30) ;Nobrega, Camila Bortolato Gomes da ;Mascaro, Lucia Helena ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/9130022476352844https://lattes.cnpq.br/4242413249181010The objective of this work is the development of a carbon nanotubes past electrode (CNTs) as electrochemical sensors in the analysis of flavonoids, (+) catechin and rutin, and Cr (III) and Cr (VI) ions, by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The electrodes were prepared with 60% w/ w multiple walls CNTs with diameter of 20 to 40 nm and 40% w/w of mineral oil, nujol. The analytical curves for organic compounds (+) catechin and rutin were performed in phosphate buffer pH 6.0 while those for Cr (III) and Cr (VI) the electrolyte was a mixture of HCl and KCl 0.1 mol L-1 and tetrabutylammonium bromide 0.15 mmol L-1. The (+) catechin showed a limit of detection (DL) of 5.4 x 10-8 mol L-1 and rutin 9.37 x 10-8 mol L-1. The standard addition method was used to analyse the samples of tea species Camellia sinensis (black, white and green) and pomegranate fruit (bark, leaf and fruit). The total content of flavonoids was determined, since it was not possible separate the analytical signal of the two organic species. The values found with the addition of (+) catechin or rutin standard solutions are close to those reported in the literature and agree with those obtained from UV-vis technique. From analytical curve of the Cr (VI) ion was obtained a DL of 1.1 x10-9 mol L-1 and a recovery factor (Frec) of 98.1%. For Cr (III) none analytical signal was obtained in the conditions used in this work. However, for the mixture of Cr (III) and Cr (VI) the total chromium content was determined with a Frec of 100.4%, at low ions concentrations. The method was not able to specialty the different chromium ions species.Item type:Item, Síntese assimétrica dos componentes do feromônio sexual da lagarta-parda, Thyrinteina arnobia (Lepidoptera: Geometridae)(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2013-01-31) ;Paiva, Marcelo Montanha de ;Corrêa, Arlene Gonçalves ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/7425467156776144https://lattes.cnpq.br/5793954287313897The pheromones play an important role in chemical communication between alive organisms. They can be used in agriculture to pest control. The brown-caterpillar, Thyrinteina arnobia, is considered in Brazil a major pest of Eucalyptus species. The damage is caused by tree defoliation due to the attack of caterpillars. In this work the asymmetric synthesis of four stereoisomers of 3,4-epoxy-6,9-eneicosadiene, sex pheromone component of T. arnobia, was accomplished in 11 steps with an overall yield of 16 to 20%. The key step of the synthetic route involved the Sharpless asymmetric epoxidation of Z- and E-2-penten-1-ol which delivered the corresponding epoxyalcohols in 70-76% yield and 80-90% ee. Electroantennographic analysis (EAG) as well as behavioural studies in laboratory and field will be conducted to evaluate the action of these compounds in insects and possible application in monitoring and pest control.Item type:Item, Desenvolvimento e implementação de uma política de desbaste(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2013-01-31) ;Veroneze, Caroline Candido ;Amaral, Roniberto Morato do ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/6958372164719600https://lattes.cnpq.br/8360321229283971If libraries refuse to provide adequate information to community needs, they probably will compromise its existence as a social organization, a situation comparable to that of bookshelves crammed with books, but without the desired content. The aim of this study was to develop a system for developing and implementing a policy of weeding. The research methods used were a literature search and document analysis, data were collected, concepts and theories of Collection Development Process, and collection activities: selection, acquisition, evaluation, conservation and weeding. As a result the proposal was prepared for the systematic development and implementation of a policy of weeding in university libraries, which comprises a set of activities and tools. We conclude that the result reached may contribute to the literature in the area of Collection Development Process, especially for weeding activity, initiating further discussions on the subject and helping information workers to perform weeding activities in university libraries, more rational and appropriate informational demands and resources in your community.Item type:Item, Modelos de sobrevivência com base nas distribuições geométrica e exponencial(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2013-02-01) ;Yamachi, Cíntia Yurie ;Louzada Neto, Franciscohttps://lattes.cnpq.br/0994050156415890In this dissertation we propose four models to model lifetime data. The fist family of distribution is called Exponentiated Complementary Exponential Geometric distribution (ECEG) and it is obtained by exponentiation of the cumulative distribution of the Complementary Exponential Geometric distribution (CEG) proposed by Louzada et al. (2011) to a new parameter α > 0. The second distribution is used to model lifetime when the population is not homogeneous about the risk of death and it has two subpopulation: one composed by individuals not susceptible by the event and other composed by individuals subjected to the risk. This model, called LECEG, has a long term parameter p related to the proportion of individuals out of risk. The third is the Exponentiated Exponential Geometric (EEG) that uses the same idea of the ECEG, and the fourth is the Exponentiated Complementary Exponential Geometric distribution under N systems (ECEGN) presented in a context of N independent working systems and the fails occurs when some of them fail.Item type:Item, Avaliação do efeito do fogo sobre a riqueza e abundância de protozoários em um solo do Cerrado (Reserva Legal de Cerrado no município de São Carlos – campus UFSCar – SP)(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2013-02-01) ;Pierozzi, Mayara ;Seleghim, Mirna Helena Regali ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/5998337634888263https://lattes.cnpq.br/9655454210424830Item type:Item, Reações de transferência de elétrons fotoinduzidas em complexos binucleares : em direção a fotossíntese artificial(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2013-02-01) ;Aguiar, Inara de ;Carlos, Rose Maria ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/1589143355309943https://lattes.cnpq.br/8419273145052566In order to simulate the photoinduced electron-transfer steps in the photosystem II (PSII), the mononuclear complexes fac-[Mn(CO)3(phen)(L)]+, L= imidazole and substituted imidazoles were synthesized to mimic the photochemical step of the natural photosynthesis (manganese cluster). Also the binuclear complexes [Ru(BL2)2Mn(CO)3(phen)]3+, BL2 = bridge ligand (4'-(4- pyridyl)-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine e 4'-(4-pyridyl)-2,6-di(2-pirazynil)pyridine) and polynuclear complexes cis,fac-[(phen)2Ru(BL)2Mn(CO)3(L)]2 6+, BL = bridge ligand (4,4'-bipyridine e pyrazine) were synthesized to mimic the donor step (Chlorophylla P680 - manganese cluster) in natural photosynthesis. The new complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, spectroscopic (EPR, UVvis, FTIR, NMR) and electrochemical (cyclic voltammetry and spectroelectrochemistry) techniques. The complex fac- [Mn(CO)3(phen)(4meim)]+ (fac-4meim) in aqueous solution and in the absence of oxidizing agents is able to split water molecules producing molecular oxygen. The photo-redox process involves 4-electron/4H+ mechanism in a similar way of the Mn cluster in the PSII. The photoinduced electron donor properties of fac- 4meim were evaluated using methylviologen (MV2+) as an electron acceptor molecule and through the experiments using oxygen evolution sensor, Clarktype microelectrodes. The absorption spectra of the tetranuclear complexes exhibit intense absorptions in the visible region and a broad emission at 590 nm, showing a biexponential luminescent decay kinectic in according to the population of the excited emissive state ILCT and MLCT. The luminescent properties of the Ru(II) mononuclear complex were intensified in the bi- and tetranuclear complexes, probably due to a high symmetry and rigidity of the system, the complex using pirazine ligand showed different behavior. The photoinduced electron transfer reactions (ET) in the bi- and polinuclear complexes in presence of the acceptor MV2+ were possible only using TEOA as electron donor. Another problem found to the bi- and polinuclear complexes was the photodissociation and solvent interaction during photolysis. The molecular oxygen production of the complexes Ru-4,4'bpy-Mn e Ru-pyterpy-Mn, in aqueous solution during photolysis was certified. The photocatalytic properties of the complexes are interesting to the search of new compounds to be used in the artificial photosynthesis.Item type:Item, Aplicação de água de reúso tratada no cultivo de alface (Lactuca sativa L.)(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2013-02-01) ;Urbano, Vanessa Ribeiro ;Souza, Claudinei Fonseca ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/4858219292242433https://lattes.cnpq.br/5110664522693150The concern in developing strategies to solve the water scarcity problem is growing and actual. As a big consumer of the available fresh water, agriculture is the activity with the biggest potential for applying of water reuse. This study set up in CCA/UFSCar evaluated, on laboratory conditions, the physical and chemical properties of a soil irrigated with treated wastewater after the application of a water sheet corresponding to five cycles of lettuce s growth (Lactuca sativa, L.) and in a greenhouse, evaluated the sanitary characteristics and mass of the Elisa type lettuce and the physical, chemical and microbiological characteristics of the soil after the cultivation with treated wastewater, comes from the wastewater treatment plant from the university. In the laboratory experiment, eighteen undisturbed soil samples were coupled in a constant head permeameter and received a water sheet corresponding to five cycles of lettuce s growth, 0.58, 1.16, 1.74, 2.32 and 2.9 L of water for each cycle. The soil samples were distributed in five groups that received treated wastewater and one control group that received distilled water. Soil samples were collected to analyze the granulometry, saturated hydraulic conductivity (ksat), exchangeable sodium percentage (ESP) and soil fertility. Treated wastewater and distilled water leached samples were collected to analyze the electrical conductivity, sodium adsorption ratio (SAR), turbidity, pH, sodium, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, calcium and nitrate. In a greenhouse, two cycles of Elisa lettuce were cultivated with two treatments (treated wastewater and supply water) with four repetitions. After the harvest of the lettuce, soil samples were collected to analyze granulometry, density, ksat, and soil fertility, total coliforms, Escherichia coli and heterotrophic. The harvested lettuces were analyzed for total coliforms, Escherichia coli and chemical analysis of plant tissue. In laboratory, there was an increase of ESP and the concentration of phosphorus and sodium on soil after the application of the water sheet. There wasn t significant difference on the physical properties of soil, turbidity and SAR. In a greenhouse, there wasn t significant difference between the treatments on nutrients absorption of lettuces cultivated, but the weight of lettuces irrigated with wastewater was 100% greater than the lettuces irrigated with supply water on the second cycle. It was not detected the presence of Esherichia coli on the cultivated lettuces, but there was total coliforms contamination, that presents a risk of contamination to the consumer. The irrigation with treated wastewater increased the nutrients on soil and the SAR indicated a soil salinization risk. The treated wastewater does not cause damage on the physical properties of soil.Item type:Item, Ambiente virtual de aprendizagem em ondas e acústica para auxiliar o processo ensino e aprendizagem da física no ensino médio(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2013-02-03) ;Carmo, Rodrigo Salvadori Baptista do ;Olivieri, Carlos Alberto ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/1021041885739982https://lattes.cnpq.br/0234504678557484This work describes the development of a VLE Virtual Learning Environment, where music is the basis for studying sound waves. New educational tools such as videos, animations, simulations, as well as the Moodle platform, were used to create a virtual environment, where students can learn about sound waves in an autonomous and interactive way, motivating them to use computers and internet as facilitators of the teaching/learning process, making it more effective and interesting. This material was applied to High School students - which translates to Ensino Médio and/or Pré-Vestibular in Brazil s schooling system - in the following schools: Carlos Drummond de Andrade and Nomelini Cirandinha, both in Barretos, Escola Espaço Livre, in Bebedouro and Coc Cardiofísico, in Jaboticabal. Both the teaching experience related to the VLE construction and its learning results are also described in this work.Item type:Item, Reestruturação, expansão e democratização do ensino superior público federal (1995-2010) : da reforma do estado ao novo desenvolvimentismo(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2013-02-03) ;Silva, Ivan Henrique de Mattos e ;Cepêda, Vera Alves ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/4917331423373631https://lattes.cnpq.br/3755380812511630This work has as goal a comparative analysis of the Higher Education policies (with the focus at the federal universities) in Brazil between 1995 (year of the creation of the Conselho Nacional de Educação, and beginning of the first term of President Fernando Henrique Cardoso) and 2010 (end of the second term of President Lula). The guiding hypothesis is that the creation of the CNE, in 1995, represents a repositioning of the education issue in Brazil and marks the beginning of a new phase of public policies related to the public Higher Education (specially the federal universities network), that can be divided into two moments that, even though having certain similarities, carry deep differences between each other: 1995-2002 (FHC’s administration) and 2003-2010 (Lula’s administration), being the first one identified with a restructuring of the federal universities network and the pursuit of efficiency and rationalization of the public funds already invested; while the second one approaches to the new developmentalism debate, promoting an expansion of the federal universities network, based on the pursuit of the democratization of access.Item type:Item, Estudos evolutivos em Auchenipteridae (Siluriformes): citogenética, DNA mitocondrial e DNA satélite(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2013-02-04) ;Lui, Roberto Laridondo ;Moreira Filho, Orlando ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/3927076022470557https://lattes.cnpq.br/9248633088721225The neotropical freshwater fish fauna is the most diverse in the world, with more than 4.000 descrbed spcecies. In Brazil, about 2.500 species of freshwater fishes are considered valid, and the most formallyand a small portion under description, however, it is believed that this number can be significantly higher. Auchenipteridae, which is restricted to the Neotropical region, comprise 20 genus and about 90 species, of which 74 have been recorded for the Brazilian territory. Genetic studies, both chromosomic or moleculars, in Auchenipteridae, are few since the great diversity of species in this family and their wide geographic distribution. Thus, this thesis was developed with the goal of advance the knowledge in this family, specifically with regard to chromosomal studies classical and moleculars in the genus Ageneiosus, Parauchenipterus, Glanidium, Tatia and Trachelyopterus, and in the application of analysis of the DNA mitochondrial sequences to help in taxonomic problem involving the genus Parauchenipterus and Trachelyopterus. Ageneiosus is the genus most widely distributed among river basins of South America. Although chromosomal studies in the family are still few, this genus is the most studied in number of species, ranging from 54 to 56, differing from the rest of the family which present 58. Chromosomal analysis was performed in A. inermis of Araguaia river basin. Ageneiosus presents a slightly different genomic organization compared to the other species of Auchenipteridae. Evidences indicate that a chromosomal fusion that originated the first metacentric pair of A. inermis, can be a rearrangement basal for the genus. Regarding the B chromosomes, in this study, was described the second case of B chromosomes in Auchenipteridae (Trachelyopterus sp.), and it has been hypothesized that the B chromosomes this species may have a common origin in relation to the B chromosomes of P. galeatus. As expected, the results confirmed the great phylogenetic proximity between the genus Parauchenipterus and Trachelyopterus, moreover, indicated that the B chromosomes of the two species may present a common origin, prior to the diversification these genus. With regard to Tatia, this genus belongs to the subfamily Centromochlinae and has 13 valid species. Of these, T. viii jaracatia and T. neivai represent the only two species of the Paraná-Paraguay drainages. Chromosomal analysis was performed these two species, and thus, the first chromosomal data were generated for the genus. The two species of Tatia showed large chromosomal similarity, however, when compared with the others of Auchenipteridae, was possible to identify some differences in the karyotype formula, in the pattern of heterochromatin and in the distribution of 5S rDNA, which appear to be intrinsic of Tatia. Regarding to Glanidium ribeiroi, this species was collected at the Iguazu river, being that its fauna is characterized by high endemism, which is due to two factors: its rugged topography and their old insulation provided by formation of Iguazu falls. Chromosomal analysis was performed in a population of G. ribeiroi collected in a region in the final stretch of this basin, and the results revealed populational differences when compared with previous studies in others populations of the Iguazu river, which must be related to the rugged topography of this basin. In this thesis, was also presented an adaptation of the banding C technique, with respect to the use of a fluorescent dye (propidium iodide), rather than of non-fluorescent dye (Giemsa). This adaptation produces greater contrast of the heterochromatin bands in metaphase chromosomes and can be especially valuable when the organisms studied possess heterochromatin that is pale and difficult to visualize. Finally, the data obtained concerning the genus Parauchenipterus and Trachelyopterus, both by chromosome analysis as by analysis of two mitochondrial genes, will be used in the discussion of a paper still in preparation, that involves the validation or not of Parauchenipterus, genus that has been subject of debate in the taxonomic .Item type:Item, Análise de escalabilidade de aplicações Hadoop/Mapreduce por meio de simulação(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2013-02-04) ;Rocha, Fabiano da Guia ;Senger, Hermes ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/3691742159298316https://lattes.cnpq.br/6083739451214753During the last years we have witnessed a significant growing in the amount of data processed in a daily basis by companies, universities, and other institutions. Many use cases report processing of data volumes of petabytes in thousands of cores by a single application. MapReduce is a programming model, and a framework for the execution of applications which manipulate large data volumes in machines composed of thousands of processors/cores. Currently, Hadoop is the most widely adopted free implementation of MapReduce. Although there are reports in the literature about the use of MapReduce applications on platforms with more than one hundred cores, the scalability is not stressed and much remain to be studied in this field. One of the main challenges in the scalability study of MapReduce applications is the large number of configuration parameters of Hadoop. There are reports in the literature that mention more than 190 configuration parameters, 25 of which are known to impact the application performance in a significant way. In this work we study the scalability of MapReduce applications running on Hadoop. Due to the limited number of processors/cores available, we adopted a combined approach involving both experimentation and simulation. The experimentation has been carried out in a local cluster of 32 nodes, and for the simulation we have used MRSG (MapReduce Over SimGrid). In a first set of experiments, we identify the most impacting parameters in the performance and scalability of the applications. Then, we present a method for calibrating the simulator. With the calibrated simulator, we evaluated the scalability of one well-optimized application on larger clusters, with up to 10 thousands of nodes.
