    The Sarcoplasmic reticulum calcium ATPase (SERCA), phospholamban (PLB) and the Na+-Ca2+ exchanger (NCX) proteins are essential for the cardiac calcium management and myocardial contractility in vertebrates. The increase in metabolic rate generated from mechanical and physiological process of digestion is known as specific dynamic action (SDA) and represents the energy cost of processing, digestion and absorption of food. In several groups of reptiles, feeding generates a rapid increase in rates of gas exchange, whose peak usually occurs one or two days after feeding, before suffering a slower decline and returning to preprandial values. Ingestion of large quantity of food demands a metabolic elevation and leads to indemnities related in ventricular mass and an increase in myocardial force contraction, avoiding an overload on the cardiovascular system. During the fasting, depletion of body mass occurs and it can also reach the heart muscle. To describe the importance and the changes in SERCA2, PLB and NCX proteins on the effects of feeding/digestion in reptiles broad-snouted caiman (Caiman latirostris), burmese phyton (Python molurus) and also by prolonged fasting in South-American rattlesnake (Crotalus durissus terrificus) Western blotting technique was used. We observed the homology existence between the proteins of reptiles in relation to mammals. The SDA increased expression of SERCA2 protein in three species of reptiles. The SDA can also have unduced the expression of an isoform and/or reduced phosphorylation at some active sites of SERCA2 in ventricular tissue of P. molurus. A direct relationship between the expression of SERCA2 with the PLB expression in C. durissus was observed. However in P. molurus and C. latirostris this relation does not exist. The three reptiles expressed the PLB with molecular mass of 50 kDa, whereas the mouse expressed 25 kDa. The vast evolutionary distance that separates mammals of reptiles may have caused the rise of isoforms between these groups, explaining this difference. The increased expression of NCX along with lower expression of SERCA2 and PLB in C. durissus in food group Fasting compared to the other two groups suggests a higher calcium mobilization in this feeding regime, which would be advantageous from the energy point of view. The expression of NCX with different molecular mass between the three species, a smaller number of consensus regions with the animals phylogenetically more distant and the great plasticity of NCX gene to form distinct proteins, suggest the expression of proteins isoforms with the reptiles studied in this research.

    Are there successful composting experiences of municipal solid waste (MSW)? Is it possible to have alternative solutions for urban organic waste different from the conventional model of centralized composting plants? Answering these questions was the main objective of this work. The state of São Paulo was the focus of the research. Methodology included a survey of primary and secondary data of centralized and decentralized composting experiences in São Paulo and semi-structured interviews with managers in face to face, telephone or e-mail contacts. Six modalities of composting and fifteen treatment routes of organic waste with source separation had been identified, as well as factors boosting and restricting the development of composting activities in the State. The results showed the diversity of alternatives for organic waste recovery in urban areas, pointed out gaps that benefit final disposal groups and revealed the lack of public support to the composting activities undertaken by several actors in the State. The study concludes that decentralizing activities, diversifying technological routes of composting and stimulating social, public and private entrepreneurs can accelerate the diversion of MSW from landfills and dumps. Such actions can also contribute to urban and rural agriculture and enable implementation of a rational culture of solid waste management.

    The concept of relationship between two sets, in particular, the real function of a real variable, is fundamental to mathematics education high school student, it is a basic object of mathematics is elementary and the modeling of many everyday problems or context of other sciences. However, one notes the difficulty of most students understand this concept; stands out, also, the difficulty of students to interpret a function by analyzing its graph in the Cartesian plane xOy. In this context, this thesis try alternative methods that can contribute to the improvement of teaching and learning theme in question. More precisely, it uses Geogebra educational software and the virtual environment Moodle learning for the study of elementary functions. In general, the resources of Geogebra, the Dynamic Geometry and Algebra, have to propitiate to student understands, the proper form, the ratings and the function representation as a curve in the plane; Furthermore, Geogebra allow guesses about the behavior of an elementary function parameters subject to variation. In turn, the use of Moodle environment allows communication and broader evaluation (between teacher-student and student-student) through, questionnaires / online tests, video lessons, discussion forums etc. This text is six classes developed with the participation of two groups (each with about 35 students) of the third year of high school. Initially, in order to detect major and several difficulties, an evaluation (presence) was made with basic issues (of different levels). The performance of these students was quantified, qualified (enjoying the most problematic conceptual topics) and then served as support for the activities - in order to reverse the reality presented and the existing student-mathematical relationship. It is noteworthy that the use of an educational software like GeoGebra already proposes a new dynamic student-teacher-mathematics. Wanted with this change that the student take a more active position on the mathematical content so that, in fact, with proper guidance of the teacher, can understand and demystify the concept of real function of a real variable.

    Metallic coatings are generally designed to confer high wear and corrosion resistance to the substrate to be coated. These properties are essential to make structures suitable to resist to aggressive environment and operating conditions. In this context, Fe-based alloys have drawn great attention due to their unique physical and chemical properties and relatively low cost of iron. Compared with traditional crystalline metallic materials, Fe-based amorphous alloys exhibit high strength, hardness and superior corrosion resistance, attributed to their disorder structures as well as chemical homogeneity. Powder alloys can then be used to produce amorphous coatings on steel substrate, improving corrosion and wear properties in aggressive environments. This work reports on the production of high corrosion and wear resistant coatings produced by HVOF (High Velocity Oxygen Fuel) using only commercials precursors. Initially, preliminary studies were made for the evaluation of glass forming ability (GFA) for the selected Fe60Cr8Nb8B24%at. composition. Further analyses of the crystallization of fully amorphous samples were conducted to correlate the crystalline phases with the physical and chemical properties. Then, the production of amorphous coatings was studied. The microstructure of the samples was characterized by optical microscopy (OM), confocal microscopy (CM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). Corrosion, wear and hardness tests were performed as well as porosity and oxygen content measurements. The results have shown the feasibility of production of high quality coatings by HVOF (low porosity and oxygen content together with high hardness and large amount of amorphous fraction). However, the corrosion properties of the coatings were found to be impaired by the presence of α-Fe and FexB (x=1,2 and 3) crystalline phases.

    This research aimed to understand how the Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) is being adopted in small and medium-sized chemical companies. In addition, sought to identify the GSCM practices being adopted by companies in the study and indicate the main pressures (external and internal) for the adoption of these practices. It examine also if the pressures lead to adoption of GSCM practices and if these practices bring improvements in performance (environmental, economic and operational). In order to refine the theoreticalconceptual model of Santa Eulalia, et al. (2011) had conducted a multiple case study in four chemical companies. The companies are small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the State of São Paulo. The GSCM practices adopted by most companies researched were, respectively, the most adopted for the less practiced, Internal Environmental Management Cooperation with Customers, Green Purchasing, Eco-design and Investment Recovery. The pressures most cited by respondents were, respectively, Regulations, Internal Factor, Marketing, Suppliers and Competitors, and the Society was not considered by any company. It was also found that companies that receive greater pressure to adopt GSCM practices are not always the ones with more practices implemented. However, external and internal factors influencing pressure somewhat implementing GSCM practices. On the performance achieved with the adoption of practices, there is an awareness that bring improved environmental and economic performance. At the same time, the practice can lead to a negative economic impact, especially in the short term. It was also that the positive economic and environmental performance are interrelated. The improvement in operating performance is not perceived by the respondents of the researched companies. Few studies have been found on this issue in national literature, which this study is considered pioneer in research on the theme that analyze the relationships between pressures, practices and performances. Another contribution of the study involves the size of the studied companies, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), since they have few resources, making it difficult to stay in the competitive global market. Studies involving SMEs and to consider its context are relevant to help them gain competitive advantage.
