ERPs are complex systems that handle large amounts of data and links among this data providing to its users different information. Usually, developers of this type of application dedicate their efforts to guarantee correctness of the functionality and information consistency; so usability issues become secondary. It is widely recognized that ERP systems own complex interfaces that negatively affect the ability to use these systems. However, it is observed that certain rules that assist to improve interfaces may be automated, thus it is possible to create automated processes to help the development of such applications. This work presents a model driven approach for retail ERP systems with functional usability features (functional features with high impact on usability), called FUF. This study consisted in two stages. In the first one was made literature and market research of retail ERP systems. The second step was the development of a metamodel for retail ERP systems with functional usability features, called MetaUsaERPWeb, it was also carried out the development of a M2C transformer for MetaUsaERPWeb with PHP target platform. Finally, in the last step, the validation of the proposal was made in a case study, with two tests: the first conducted an experimental study to validate the proposed approach against the traditional approach. The results showed that the groups using MetaUsaERPWeb were more efficient, produce more lines of code and better applications. The second analysis compared the applications developed from the traditional approach and the use of MetaUsaERPWeb (first analysis); the results showed that applications built with MetaUsaERPWeb violated least usability heuristics in 60 % of cases.

The estimated housing deficit in Brazil was 5.6 million in 2008, in which 83.5% was in urban areas, wherein to meet such demand there is a need for industrialized construction. Prefabricated building systems with precast panels for residential buildings were largely applied in Europe after the Second World War and it has been applied recently in countries of Latin America and Asia. Although construction companies have been using building systems with precast panels for affordable housing in Brazil since the 80´s, the absence of a prescriptive code of practice for design of precast panels demands certification for each system, which needs to meet the performance requirements according to ABNT-NBR 15575:2013. In order to increase the application of prefabricated systems a new Brazilian Code of Practice for Precast Panels, based on international codes, has been concluded and it is now waiting for final approval. In order to achieve optimum performance, constructability and sustainability of the building project there is a need for integration between architectural and structural designs, as well the interaction between product and production, starting from product development based on the analysis of added value for each project until the rationalization of the processes. The level of prefabrication depends on the number and repetition of units. The aim of this research is to identify and define design guidelines based on performance for building systems with precast concrete panels for residential buildings. The literature revision was carried out starting from international references and codes until the study of the Brazilian codes of practice, including the new code for precast concrete panels. In addition, the research presents the main types of panels and typologies for residential buildings with potential to be applied in Brazil. Finally, an example of performance based design for precast concrete panels is presented with some discussions. This study demonstrate that architects and structural engineers can now design building systems with precast panels based on the new codes of practice and numeric simulations without the need of further tests for certification.

The genus Salmonella spp. has been extensively investigated because these bacteria are important pathogens that frequently cause severe diseases and gastrointestinal infections in humans and animals. Moreover, in recent years, Salmonella has called attention due to the excellent results in the production and in vivo delivery of various substances with potential application in Vaccinology. However, there is still little information available concerning aspects of its metabolism, which hampers both the development of new attenuated strains and the large-scale production of live cells and cellular components. Thus, this work aimed to study the S. typhimurium LT2 metabolism, using traditional and innovative approaches to investigate different carbon sources as well as different bioreactor operation modes and aeration conditions (aerobic and anaerobic). Results obtained in batch and chemostat cultivations indicated that S. typhimurium metabolism differs significantly from E. coli metabolism, closely related bacteria species with regard to the central carbon metabolism. The main difference observed between these bacteria was the high level of acetate production exhibited by S. typhimurium LT2 cells, which, differently from E. coli, occurred even at the lowest dilution rate evaluated. Currently, genome scale metabolic models are important tools for better understanding the phenotypic behavior of many organisms. Therefore the model STM_v1.0 reconstructed for S. typhimurium LT2 was evaluated, comparing experimental data, obtained in chemostat cultivations, with model predictions. Since this model was derived from E. coli model, the simulated results for biomass formation were overestimated and, consequently, predicted acetate fluxes were lower than those obtained experimentally. Therefore, to obtain experimental data useful to improve the model and to reach a better comprehension of S. typhimurium metabolism, the technique of metabolic flux analysis using isotopic labeled substrate was adopted, allowing determination of the fluxes for the main pathways of central carbon metabolism of Salmonella. This analysis revealed different preferred metabolic pathways depending on the specific growth rate. At the lowest dilution rate evaluated, D = 0.24 h-1, glucose was catabolized predominantly by the pentose phosphate and glycolysis pathways, while at the dilution rate of 0.48 h-1, the major pathway of glucose oxidation was Entner-Doudoroff. In addition, a relatively high flux through the citric acid cycle at the higher dilution rate studied was observed.

The development of Libras teaching-learning conditions for distance education is necessary in the Universidade Federal de São Carlos (Ufscar) and other higher education institutions. It is pivotal discussing the topic since there are few researches about it. This study presents the researches and analyses of Libras teaching-learning aspects as a second language in distance education by Learning Management System (LMS) and via Moodle. To that end, the research considered the environment suitableness and the communication and interaction processes between the LMS agents (students, tutors and professors). A mixed method (qualitative and quantitative) was applied to on-line questionnaires regarding the Libras I course from the Education and Musical Education departments in UAB-Ufscar. Further, the agents’ opinions and perceptions concerning the tools, the pedagogical procedures and the learning/teaching interaction were analyzed. The analysis was based on Bakhtin’s theoretical assumptions regarding the fundamental dialogical interactions in the language teaching-learning process, which was applied to Libras in this study. The subjects surveyed were 103 students (whose data were clustered in Study 1); 9 virtual tutors (whose data were clustered in Study 2) and 3 professors (whose data were clustered in Study 3). A protocol was set up to analyze this data and according to it, for Study 1, the data was organized and split in the following categories: a) Tools; b) Pedagogical procedures; c) Learning aspects. For Study 2: a) Virtual tutoring experiences; b) LMS tools; c) Interaction and learning. For Study 3: a) Virtual teaching experiences; b) Distance interaction with students. The opinions and perceptions regarding different items got good ratings by the LMS agents and the course, in general, seems to have reached its goals. The researchers analyzed the propositions shown by the agents and they indicate an enhancement of Libra courses in order to make them more accessible to hearing students.

The black pepper is the most important spice commercialized globally, with Brazil being one of the main producers in the world. Yet few studies to optimize the production of this commodity process have been found in the literature. The objective of this work was to study the drying the black pepper grains. The physicochemical characterization of the material with varying humidity, measuring linear dimensions (mean Sauter diameter, minimum, average and maximum diameter, and perimeter) was performed, as well as surface area, volume, sphericity, and also the bulk density, real and bulk, porosity and grain. Drying experiments were conducted in a hothouse at different temperatures. Assays were carried out a fixed-bed dryer for determination of the thin layer. Drying kinetics experiments were performed on a thin layer in a dryer with forced convection temperature ranging from 50 to 70 °C, and air velocity of 1.0, 2.0 and 4.0 m/s. With these data, there have been adjustments of Lewis, Page and Overhults equations, and the Forward model with simplifying assumptions for the diffusivity. The results obtained show that the diffusive model was the most suitable. It also promoted the essential oil extraction of the grains and the results are consistent with the literature.
