This research originated from issues related to scientific literacy, aimed to analyze the potential and limitations of the study on medicinal plants from the CTS approach (Science- Technology-Society). Science education according to this perspective establishes relationships between scientific knowledge, technological development and social reality in order to encourage responsible decision making. Therefore, the research involved the participation of twenty students in a class of 3rd grade of elementary school of a municipal school in the interior of São Paulo and was developed through activities with CTS character, interdisciplinary and contextual. We used as instruments to collect data daily researcher, the written record and represented by designs of the students, the audio recording of his speeches and photographs. For the data analysis, established as criteria the Structuring Axes of Scientific Literacy proposed by Sasseron and Carvalho (2011) and we adapted. As a result, we identified indicative aspects of the process of initiation to scientific literacy. Among them we highlight the construction of relevant knowledge to the context of life of students and applicable to everyday situations, awareness of responsible actions through analysis and reflections on the new information and evidence of understanding of the relationship between science, technology, society and its implications. The study also highlighted the importance of attentive and active role of the teacher during the development of the activities and pointed out limitations regarding the conduct of discursive activity in science classes and difficulty in articulating the opinions of students and science concepts. Finally, we believe that this research could contribute to the practice of teachers working in the early years of elementary school to consider training as a continuum.

Efeito de fontes e doses de manganês no desenvolvimento do cultivar TAA Bola Cheia de feijoeiro comum (Phaseolus vulgaris L.)
(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2016-06) Belloni, Ana Laura; Soares, Marcio Roberto; https://lattes.cnpq.br/6337462438517339; https://lattes.cnpq.br/9950493399524100
One of the main factors for increasing the productivity of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is the correct use of fertilizers. However, this important factor of agricultural production has still been neglected by rural producers, mainly regarding the supply of micronutrients. Manganese (Mn) is an essential micronutrient to the synthesis of chlorophyll and its deficiency has a direct influence on the content of soluble non-structural carbohydrates. The aim of this study was to evaluate the supply of Mn for a common bean cultivar from different sources and rates of Mn fertilizers. Plants of common bean, TAA Bola Cheia cultivar, were grown in pots in a greenhouse, following a 3x3+1 factorial design, with 3 sources of Mn [MnSO4 (soil fertilization), Mn chelated by EDTA, and MnCl2 (leaf fertilization)], applied in three dosages [recommended dosage (RD), 0.5 x RD and 2 x RD], in addition to a control treatment. Plants were harvested at 60 days after emergency and evaluated for biometric (stem length, stem diameter, leaf area, total chlorophyll index, number of pods, dry shoot biomass) and nutritional parameters (chemical analysis of plant tissue). The absorption and accumulation of Mn in the leaves depended on the source, as follows: MnCl2 > MnSO4 = Mn EDTA. The supply with Mn EDTA resulted in significantly higher biometric parameters (number of pods, total chlorophyll, leaf area and dry shoot biomass). The source that resulted in the highest leaf content of Mn was MnCl2, whose application of 2.0 x DR caused symptoms of toxicity in plants (> 700 mg kg-1). There was no correlation between Mn rates and chlorophyll levels in the leaves of plants treated with different Mn supplies, but the total chlorophyll indices were significantly higher in plants that received Mn by leaf fertilization, especially at the 2.0 x RD dose, regardless the source. Thus, the ChlorofiLOG was not adequate to assess the nutritional status of plants in relation to the Mn levels.

Schistosomiasis is a chronic parasitic disease and neglected, caused by the flatworm Schistosoma sp and affects 240 million people around the world. In Brazil is considered expanding and reaches 19 states. Schistosoma mansoni can evade the host immune response in a way not fully understood. Thus, the search for new drugs for the treatment of schistosomiasis tends to become a new alternative for the control of infections caused by this parasite. The purine bases biosynthetic pathway is a key to drug development, because it is directly related to the maintenance of DNA and RNA synthesis. The recombinant enzyme Hypoxanthine-guanine phosphoribosyltransferase (HGPRT) has an important function in the way of salvation of purine bases. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the potential of recombinant enzyme HGPRT treatment (Immunotherapy) in experimental schistosomiasis. The methodology used was Immunotherapy using the enzyme of S. mansoni recombinant HGPRT to treat female mice of the strain Swiss infected with S. mansoni with 3 doses after 28 days of infection. Later it was made the evaluation of egg in feces by the method Kato - Katz, cell count of peritoneal cavity lavage and blood, perfusion for the recovery of adult worms’ door-hepatic system and intestinal mesentery. The results were analyzed using statistical program GraphPad Prism 5.01. Infected animals and treated with the enzyme showed a marked decrease in the number of eggs, which is critical to reducing the morbidity related to parasitosis. There was also a reduction of the parasitic load and the number of eosinophils. The results demonstrate that treatment with recombinant S. mansoni HGPRT enzyme has potential for treatment of schistosomiasis. Thus, these results need to be better investigated to understand which mechanisms are involved in the control of schistosomiasis.
