It is known that transition metal complexes are compounds with a wide range of applications, due to, for example, its structural versatility and variability of electronic properties. A wide range of these compounds have vital functions in living organisms, being found in enzymes, proteins and cofactors. So, the potentiality of such complexes for the catalytic activity is related to the presence of possible active sites for substrate coordination and the occurrence of the catalyzed reaction. In search for inorganic compounds that act as mimetic models for the enzyme Catechol Oxidase, there were synthesized monometallic zirconium (IV) and zinc (II) complexes. The ligands used were tridentate Schiff base originated by the reaction between diaminomaleonitrile and salicylaldehyde, or 4-substituted salicylaldehyde. Those compounds were characterized through techniques such as solubility tests, melting point tests, molar conductivity measures, vibrational and electronic spectroscopies and 1H nuclear magnetic resonance. The complexes were tested for its functional mimetic activity for the enzyme Catechol Oxidase by conducting the reaction between 3,5-di-tert-butylcatechol and O2, to form 3,5-di-tert-butyl-ortho-quinone. It was found that in 24 h the zinc complex without substituent on the aromatic ring of the ligand has a catalytic behavior, resulting in a conversion 17 % higher than that observed in the test without catalyst. The results for all other complexes suggested inhibitory activity and the tested zirconium complex was the one which the inhibition effect was more pronounced. In the first four hours of reaction it presented conversions of 5 % of the converted in the test without catalyst.

Application of design of experiments (DoE) to dissolution method development in pharmaceutical industry
(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2017-04-28) Souza, Renato Cesar de; Pereira Filho, Edenir Rodrigues; https://lattes.cnpq.br/3394181280355442; https://lattes.cnpq.br/2338450023083353
The aim of this work is to apply design of experiment methodologyin the development of a dissolution method during the early phase ofdevelopment of a generic product in pharmaceutical industry. The model drug used during the development was the biphasic release product Zolpidem CR, which contains 12.5 mg of Zolpidem Hemitartrate per tablet. Previous to experimental design, a Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA)was performed to choose the most important variables.Four variables were considered the most importants to affect product release rate, which wereapparatus, rotation speed, volume and pH of the dissolution media. The variables selected were analysed by the full factorial design with the objective to identify the principal factors. The most critical factors were then used to construct the response surface model in order to model all variables and understand its interaction. The objective at this phase of product development was to reach anin vitro dissolution similar to the one in vivo, therefore all the responses were based on the in vivo absorption rate of the reference product obtained from literature. The mean Zolpidem plasma concentration-time profiles was deconvoluted by Wagner Nelson method and the deconvoluted curve was modeled to Logistic model. The parameters of the equation wereused as reference response. The responses monitored were the percentage dissolved in 0.25, 4.0 h, and the α ,β and R2 parameters of logistic equation. The model reliability and significance of the factors studied was evaluated by the analysis of variance (ANOVA). Two methods were used to determine the best dissolution condition, the first one was the Desirability Function and the second was the response surface sobreposition. The dissolution condition of basket with a rotation speed of 50 rpm and dissolution media of HCl 0,01 M (pH 2,0) with a volume of 500 ml was choosen as the condition that satisfied the desirability criterias stablished at the beginning of the experiment. The design of experiment methodology proved to be a more efficient methodology comparade to the traditional one factor at time (OFAT) method, reducing the number of experiments, number of samples and time to method development. The comprehension of the factors that affect release rate of the product and conclusion showed to be significantly superior to the traditional method.

The present research had as an objective to identify the concepts multifunctional-resource-class teachers and school supervisors have of intellectual disability and evaluation, after being submitted to an education course. It also aimed at analyzing how the assessment processes of students showing possible intellectual disability for enrollment in special education programs have been occurring, and subsidize work in a pedagogical evaluation which guarantees each and every student the right to learn in school. Developed in a town in Parana State which adopts the psycho-educational evaluation in the school context, a model constituted of pedagogical assessment aided by psychological opinion with the diagnoses of the disability, its subjects were the multifunctional-resource-class teachers and school supervisors of the public municipal education network, the ones in charge of the pedagogical assessment and the Coordinator of Basic Education of Secretaria da Educação Municipal ( Municipal Board of Education). Supported by critical educational theories and their bases, the methodological forwarding happened under a historic and dialectic perspective, whose approach makes possible the proximity and understanding of social practices which involve the processes studied, in order to more than understand them, to try to transform them. The course offered to the participants in the research was based in the historic-critic pedagogy and the educational meetings were videotaped for data collection. The talks were transcribed and organized in theme axes about: the education course, concepts of evaluation, concepts of intellectual disability and evaluation practices. As a result, it was verified that the participants’ concepts of evaluation validate this tool as a means to indicate ways towards the student’s learning. Nevertheless, the course takers focus more on the skills that must be developed by the students than on the factors external to them, which make this development possible, such as the very pedagogical practice itself. Concerning the concept of intellectual disability, it was noticed a mixture of concepts: some course takers present a speech primarily focused on an organicist view, and others, more focused on the interaction perspective. About the evaluation practice, it was verified that the course takers have knowledge about the necessary proceedings to refer the students to assessment and the norms adopted by the city; some course takers showed resistance to the participation of school professionals in the evaluation process, indicate the segmentation among the teams who act within and outside the school, besides the predominance of the opinions of such teams over the ones of the school pedagogical team. The clinical area professionals’ diagnoses are considered important, however criticism to them can be noticed, especially when their results do not correspond to the expectancy of the school. Based on the pedagogical evaluation performed in the school context, reports on students who had their learning process redefined and stopped being sent for psychological assessment in order to identify a possible disability outstands. It is concluded that the education course offered constituted a space for reflection, which made possible, changes in concepts of intellectual disability and its evaluation processes.

Conflicts over water are inherent in the development of cities and stand out in the setting of environmental and urban crisis scenarios. New models of urban management and planning congruent to the hydrological cycle suggest more harmonious relations between the urbanization process and ecosystem interventions, to efficiently take advantage of the natural characteristics of the environment. Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) has emerged from this premise to meet the demands of the Australian context. Currently the practices that follow this approach have multiplied, forming a set of experiences that can guide the dissemination of WSUD to other realities, such as the Brazilian cities scenario. This research proposed the study of this approach in its origins, as well as the understanding of the water cycle vision adopted in urban planning of the São Carlos city, aiming to demonstrate the potentialities and limitations of WSUD application in the urban stormwater management and planning of this municipality. The research was structured in four phases: exploratory, descriptive, analytical and conclusive. Each of these phases allowed to carry out a theoretical background that bases the discussions of the dissertation, to obtain an approximation of the characteristics of the objects studied and to develop analyses about the used procedures and founded results. It was possible to systematize a framework of the approach from technical manuals, to compile historical and contemporary processes that condition the conflicts between urbanization and the conservation of water ecosystems in the city of São Carlos, and to build a matrix of potentialities and weaknesses about the development of WSUD in this context, intending for the advancement of the issue in prospects of reduced impact and greater environmental and urban health for the municipality. It was verified that the urbanization process of São Carlos had been oriented by the conventional paradigm of stormwater management setting up a scenario of Drained City, but since 2001 institutional and legal transitions allowed the emergence of alternative practices, which established potentialities to foster the Water Sensitive City. Based on the presented results, possible strategies were adopted for the management of rainwater management that allow the implementation of alternative practices.

This research is based on the premise that the improvement of bicycle transport conditions could help improve the quality of life in cities, due to the wide range of social, environmental, economic and health benefits associated with this mode. The purpose of the cycling networks addressed in this study is to establish connections between potential points of origin and destination of cyclists, in order to offer the most appropriate routes between the points of interest. For this, the identification and study in the Travel Generating Poles (PGVs) are convenient, since Origin-Destination (O / D) surveys, capable of providing information about travel demands, are rare in the context of Brazilian cities. The prerogative of this study is to identify the implications of opinions and travel behavior of cyclists in the planning of cycling networks in medium-sized cities. Based on the bibliographic review, the main factors that influence the choice of routes by cyclists were identified, as well as some models of bicycle service level evaluation (NSB), in order to provide a solid theoretical discussion, allowing a better understanding of the studied reality. Subsequently, surveys have been carried out with cyclists at Bicycle Travel Generating Poles (application of a questionnaire and registration of routes traveled by cyclists using GPS devices), followed by the diagnosis of the Level of Service for Bicycle of the routes traveled by cyclists and the shortest ways between origins and destinations of cyclists. The implications of cyclists' opinions and travel behavior for cycling planning lie in directing the proposition to direct cycling networks, that minimize the deviation of connections between origins and destinations (PGVs), as well as provide basic infrastructures such as adequate lighting and well-maintained pavement.

(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2017-04-28) Gobo, Nicholas Roberto da Silva; Oliveira, Kleber Thiago de; https://lattes.cnpq.br/3759761373942891; https://lattes.cnpq.br/2271376257437396
In this study, the synthesis of phthalocyanine derivatives with extended conjugation were proposed. In order to obtain these compounds, two main strategies were applied. One of them, was the Heck-Mizoroki cross-coupling methodology for the synthesis of substituted naphthalocyanines starting from an octahalogenated phthalocyanine. The other one, was to synthesize a novel phthalocyanine derivative starting from 3,4-dicyano-1,6-methano[10]annulene, which under cyclotetramerization conditions furnished a compound with absorptions at 720 and 800 nm.
