Introduction: with demographic aging, dementia has become one of the most relevant problems today, whose impacts involve biological, social and psychological factors, both for the affected person and the family caregiver. And this is who, generally, takes responsibility for care in an unprepared manner, contributing to depressive, anxiety and overload. Scientific evidence suggests that Mindfulness-based intervention (MBI) may be a possibility to help these people to improve mental health and consequently the performance of caring activity. Objectives: to analyze the effects of MBI on depressive symptoms, anxious symptoms and burden of family caregivers of elderly people with dementia. Method: it is a randomized controlled trial. The sample (n = 29) was composed by Mindfulness Intervention Group (MIG) (n = 11) and Active Control Group (GCa) (n = 18). All elderly participants were referred from a specialized outpatient clinic of a Federal University in the interior of the state of São Paulo. They were evaluated before and after the intervention (MBI) with duration of eight meetings, during four months, by the Zarit Burden scales and HAD Scale (symptoms of anxiety and depression). In the analysis of the data was used Student's t test for samples and independent and paired. All ethical care was respected during the process of data collection, intervention and analysis. Results: In both groups there was a prevalence of female participants, who lived with the elderly, and with a mean age of 51.6 years for MIG and 56.4 years for MI. No statistically significant differences were identified between the control and intervention groups regarding sociodemographic characteristics. GIM presented improvement in HAD (p = 0.048) whereas for CGa, no significant differences were found in the mean level of the outcome variables. Conclusion: these results highlight the importance of the Mindfulness-based intervention for caregivers of elderly people with dementia to relieve symptoms of anxiety and depression.

Elites políticas de Mato Grosso: trajetórias, práticas políticas e mudanças institucionais 1930-1964
(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2019-02-22) Arruda, Larissa Rodrigues Vacari de; Kerbauy, Maria Teresa Miceli; https://lattes.cnpq.br/4762029784021248; https://lattes.cnpq.br/0243621159196036
The state of Mato Grosso over extended periods of time corresponded to three units of the Federation, including the states of Rondônia and Mato Grosso do Sul. The extensive territory had long borders with Bolivia and Paraguay. Cuiabá was the capital. Historically, the regions of Mato Grosso had distinct economic cycles, occupation process, societies, and political elites. During the First Republic, those who had political careers in Cuiabá controlled the state public offices. The state’s southern region was booming economically but had no political participation; consequently, the region claimed for it. After the 1930 Revolution another regional dynamic configuration was established, and the federal government overthrew old oligarchies such as Corrêa da Costa and promoted the Müllers, whose member Filinto Müller was the chief of police of the Federal District. It is still not known whether about political arrangements and the few studies did not elucidate the configuration among the political elites, especially in the Vargas years (1930-1945). In view of this shortcoming, this thesis aims to examine the specificities of the Mato Grosso’s elites and their consequences for political practices in the state between the years 1930-1964. For this, it was necessary to characterize who the elites were. After selecting the ruling class, their specificities were evaluated and their influence in the state politics was verified. The research is based on the following question: Which were the groups that directed the politics of Mato Grosso from 1930 to 1964? The theoretical approach used is Elite Theory, Community Power Structure studies, and Historical Institutionalism. This case study relies on primary sources and use positional and prosopography method. To conduct research about states is justify by the relevance of theses unities as political actors. Moreover, the relations among states can expose the dynamics of political national configuration. Furthermore, we can understand better the Brazilians states specially those less studied. Comparing states is an interpretative model to boost knowledge about the whole national politics. The argument of this study is that the elites achieved political success in the considered period as they adapted and repositioned themselves to each institutional change that occurred as a result of the alterations of the political regimes of 1930-1937, the Estado Novo of 1937-1945 and democratization in 1945-1964. While some actors skilfully maintained their elective offices, others did not. The thesis intends to be a contribution to the studies on Regionalism, Community Power Structure and the understanding of the political dynamics among the elites in Brazil.

Alterações cardiovasculares e hidro-eletrolíticas induzidas por dieta hiperlipídica
(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2019-02-22) Sá, Jéssica Matheus de; Colombari, Débora Simões de Almeida; https://lattes.cnpq.br/1684467594359403; https://lattes.cnpq.br/6083416437562380
Obesity has been pointed out as a worldwide epidemic. Data from the literature show that obesity can promote cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension, and the increased activity of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) has been described as facilitating obesity-induced hypertension. In addition, RAS is also involved in hydroelectrolyte balance adjustments, and thus helping to regulate blood pressure. Therefore, the aims of the present study were, 1) to verify the changes in blood pressure and water intake induced by central ANG II in rats fed with a high-fat diet (HFD) diet; 2) to verify the participation of the AT1 receptors in the forebrain in the alterations of arterial pressure observed in rats fed with HFD; 3) to verify the daily water intake and urinary excretion, as well as the prandial consumption of water in rats fed with HFD. We used male Holtzman rats (290-320 g) that were fed a standard diet (DP, 5% calories from fat) or DH (45% calories from fat) for 6 weeks prior to testing. The experiments were performed between the 6th and 7th week after the onset of HFD. Part of the animals received a stainless steel cannula in the lateral ventricle (LV) at the 6th week after the beginning of the diets and the experiments were performed at week 7. We observed that the pressor effect, but not the dipsogenic response to the icv injection of ANG II, was potentiated in the HFD rats. The highest levels of basal blood pressure found in HFD rats were reversed by injection into the LV of losartan (angiotensin receptor antagonist of the subtype AT1). We also observed that daily water intake and urinary volume were significantly reduced in rats with DH, with no significant changes in sodium excretion. There was also a reduction in prandial water consumption. These results show that HFD rats have a potentiated pressor response to central ANG II without altering the dipsogenic response of ANG II and AT1 prosencephalic receptors appear to be involved in obesity-induced hypertension. Finally, HFD rats showed a reduction in daily water consumption, due to mechanisms still to be clarified, and the reduction in urinary volume seems to be related to this.

Science and technology (S&T) are more present in our culture, influencing our model of society and continually reaffirming our way of life. At the same time, knowledge about S&T has long been a privilege only of intellectual elites, making it impossible for the lay public to participate in decision-making processes on scientific development. In this scenario, scientific dissemination has assumed an important role as a reflexive instrument on the relations between science, technology and society and as a tool for emancipation of the citizen. In this research, we start from the field of Science, Technology and Society (STS) on the role of scientific dissemination, to analyze the strategies of diffusion of science carried out by 17 centers of excellence in research in Brazil – Fapesp's Cepid –, trying to identify which aspects related to science, technology and society are more present; what types of relations between science, technology and society they establish; what view about S&T is prevalent; and to what extent they would have the potential to meet the goals of scientific dissemination, as we understand it from the STS field. Therefore, after surveying the set of actions carried out by the Cepid during the years of 2013 to 2017, we categorize these actions indicating approximations and ruptures with the concept of scientific dissemination, based on criteria of target audience, levels of discourse, channels and intentions, proposed by Bueno (2010). Then, considering that the video was the most used support by the Cepid for the diffusion of the knowledge in the period, we investigated the audiovisual production of the 17 centers, supported by an analysis tool that indicates what are the attributes needed for scientific dissemination materials for the holding of discussions in the perspective of the interrelations between science, technology and society. The results show that the diffusion of knowledge carried out by the Cepid strongly carries the classical view of science and reinforces the notion of linear scientific development, pointing out that more science and technology necessarily represent more social development; in addition, little progress is being made to include the lay public in the debate and decision-making process on S&T advances and on the directions of society and the planet.

A educação financeira no Brasil: gênese, instituições e produção de doxa
(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2019-02-22) Fernandes, Luzia de Fatima Barbosa; Vilela, Denise Silva; https://lattes.cnpq.br/8155152145332951; https://lattes.cnpq.br/6818023438968189
This research has as general objective to investigate institutions and it's beliefs about the implementation of the National Strategy of Financial Education (Enef) in Brazil, through studies of the didactic produced by the National Committee of Financial Education (Conef) and its authors, in which we seek to punctuate the unfolding of these beliefs. The following research questions focused on: what institutions, agents and beliefs from many disciplinary subjects which structure the speech on working with Financial Education in elementary school through Enef and what are its consequences? For analysis, we rely on Pierre Bourdieu's, Reflective Sociology, the Sociology of Education and Economic Sociology. The research methodology is qualitative in nature and based on documentary analysis of a historical-bibliographic character. The sociological data analysis sought to identify institutions, beliefs, and improvements of the theme in schools alerted to produce a doxa or common sense, about Financial Education. In order to establish the research material,we have collected several documents, such as: laws on Brazilian basic education , teaching materials published by Conef, training of authors involved , lectures made available on the Internet, speeches on events related to thematic , publications on newspapers and periodicals, materials published by the publishing market, research groups and thematic events in the academic area. The analysis of the Brazilian law's education has pointed us to the presence of the Home Economics theme in the school curriculum, which we have questioned the gender relationship since the discipline addresses to girls. By the analysis, the gender differences keep naturalized in the current Financial Education. Examining the formation of the authors' materials published by Conef, we identify the different original social spaces as the influences from the different areas of knowledge on the elaboration of the material. We have confirmed the diversity of these areas, including Economic Psychology, Economic Socialization, Pedagogy, Designer and Mathematics. The data has revealed that the different beliefs of the responsible agents for the materials published by Conef reflect the Financial Education proposal inspired by the macroeconomic and neoliberal context showing the constitution of a habitus on the students next to the homo oeconomicus. In addition, as a social construction, Financial Education construction has given rise to a didactic materials market on the subject destined to the Brazilian basic school and also has given rise in the academic spaces research agendas where predominate researchers in areas related to Mathematics. By recognizing the diversity of beliefs on the subject, we pay attention to the established doxa which Financial Education is an important issue for society and therefore must be present in the schools.

As populações urbanas de Centris (Heterocentris) analis Fabricius, 1804 (Hymenoptera, Apidae, Centridini) são geneticamente estruturadas?
(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2019-02-22) Rezende, Leandro Pereira; Del Lama, Marco Antonio; https://lattes.cnpq.br/7198095288825585; https://lattes.cnpq.br/6217698672621847
Most bees are solitary and some inhabit urban environments, finding refuge for their survival, supply their foraging and nesting needs. Centris (Heterocentris) analis is a multivoltine species with broad distribution, average size and polyletic behavior that nests in preexisting cavities. Females exhibit phylopatric behavior and males are considered the dispersing sex. Based on these characteristics, the central objective of this work was to test the hypothesis that urban populations of C. analis are not genetically structured. Further aims were to perform niche modeling and reevaluate the intranidal sociogenetic structure. We analyzed 221 individuals from 21 localities collected between 2012 and 2018. Based on the present collection records and those obtained from online surveys, ecological niche modeling was performed to determine potential areas of species distribution using the Maxent software implemented in ArcGis. Niche modeling showed that potential distribution areas occur from Mexico in North America to part of the state of Paraná in southern Brazil, including countries in South America. Sixteen species-specific microsatellite loci, with genotyping error rate of the loci from 0.00 to 2.17%, absence of linkage disequilibrium and null alleles were used to assess the genetic structuring of the populations analyzed. The FST pairwise values showed that the Teodoro Sampaio/SP and Cruzeiro do Sul/AC populations differed most from the other populations. The genetic diversity indexes showed high number of alleles (5.65) and allelic richness (4.58). AMOVA with two hierarchical levels showed FST value = 0.055 (p<0.0001) among populations. The analyses demonstrated low population structure, with no evident formation of geographically distributed genetic groups. The results of the Structure software (admixture model) show that the most probable scenario is the existence of a single genetic group for females and that males can be partially and equally assigned to three genetic groups in each locality. The TESS results did not delimit genetic groups. DAPC showed no structure for females and two not completely exclusive genetic groups in males. Intranidal genetic structure was assessed through 10 microsatellite loci in 30 individuals from eight nests. This analysis enabled confirming the monogyny-monandry mating system, in which a female mates with a single male during the nesting period. The results partially confirmed the proposed hypothesis, since low, but significant population structure was estimated, which was an expected result due to peculiar traits of the biology of the species. This work contributes knowledge on the biology and genetics of a solitary bee species that is very common in urban environments. There is a need for further studies of this nature on other species of solitary bees that occupy our cities (with broad or restricted distribution) for the purposes of comparison, since knowledge constitutes the first step toward the conservation of these species.

The aim of the research was to analyze how the specificities of gender, race, class and sexual orientation in the context of the refuge configures the experiences in the daily life of women and in their experiences of practical and subjective life. It is a qualitative research, in the eth- nographic modality, supported by a theoretical reference and documental, as well as a field research carried out in the city of São Paulo, using also the methodological approach of life histories of the participating women. Initially, the contact was made with the organizations that work with this public and a field work was carried out on the universe of refugees resi- ding in São Paulo through a dialogue with a group of women attending by theses organizati- ons. These procedures allowed them to be followed day-byday, which made it possible to identify the discriminations and prejudices that they are victims daily. In this regard, black women, who are refugees on the basis of sexual orientation, are one of the priority groups in promoting gender equality and in tackling racism, discrimination based on belonging to a spe- cific group and xenophobia. Regarding the informal work carried out by them on the streets of the city, it was noted that, despite the difficulties, there was a support network among them. It sought to contribute to reflection on the trajectory of these women and to recognize that they can exercise their citizenship and their rights in totality, as well as understand how these black women, refugees and lesbians, live and self-represent in the context of refuge.

Data from the Brazilian demographic census show that 15% of the population comments years or more are from rural life in rural areas. Studies on positive indicators of music with music and educational actions in the health of the elderly, however are few or so numerous, with the rural population. Objective: To analyze the effect of language with music and health education does not make cognitive difference, depressive symptoms and the effort of attention to the elderly in a rural area of a municipality in the interior of. Method: This is a feasibility study based on the assumptions of the non-pharmacological randomized clinical trial. Participating in the study were 26 people aged 60 years and over, divided into two groups: Music Intervention Group (G1 = 15) and Health Education Group (G2 = 11). As assessment instruments were used: Addenbrooke Cognitive Examination - Revised (ACE-R) with evaluation of Attention / Orientation, Memory, Verval Fluency, Ligand and visual-spatial skills; Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS-15), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) before and after interventions. Facilities were provided at the Family Health Unit and were held weekly, lasting one hour each, totaling ten sessions for each group. Wilcoxon's test (Z) was used to compare pre and post-intervention moments. Results: Both groups are predominantly based on women. G1 was on average 2.84 years older than G2, but without statistical significance. The groups were isolated because they were divided into instrumental activities of daily living and used polypharmacy. With regard to the overall performance of the battery, the ACE-R, the motor groups results in the postintervention measure, with G1 being greater than the greater effect (Z = 2.84). G1 presented better scores in all domains of ACE-R, with the exception of Attention /Orientation. The G2 presented improvement in all domains, Memory. The greatest effect was not the G1 for the Memory domain (Z = 3.30, p =, 001) and for G2 the best set of effects in Viso-spatial Skills (Z = 2.67, p = .007) . In relation to the evaluation of mood, both groups were portrayed in GDS with similar genres (G1: Z = -2,14, G2: Z =-2,20), in G1 the scores were reduced in PSS (Z = -2.360, p = 0.18). Conclusion: the results were 2 groups were similar, however the group that received the information system showed better in memory shortage and increased considerably the stress scores. The results show an importance of integrative and complementary strategies for cognitive performance, perceived risk and depressive symptoms of elderly people living in rural areas.

Introduction: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is characterized by chronic airflow limitation, dynamic hyperinflation, deterioration of pulmonary function, and systemic manifestations such as peripheral muscle dysfunction. Chronic sedentarism, due to increased ventilatory demand and dyspnea symptom, insert the patients in a vicious cycle of dyspnea-sedentarism-dyspnea. Thus, there is a level of physical activity in daily life (PADL) impairment, as well as of peripheral muscular strength, mainly in the quadriceps femoral muscle (QFM). The patients affected by the disease may present exacerbations that contribute even more to the worsening of these alterations, especially in hospital admission. Therefore, it is important to measure the muscular strength of the QF muscle in a practical and reliable way, even as to verify the level of PADL in this population. In addition, the interventions should be practical and applicable to reduce the impact of hospitalization for COPD exacerbation. It is relevant to verify the benefits of the intervention during the period of hospitalization and post-discharge to see if they are maintained or not, and to know how the changes behave over time. Objectives: To evaluate the intra- and inter-rater reliability of QFM strength assessment by a portable dynamometer in COPD subjects and their tolerance to the protocol; to verify the short- and long-term impact of an intervention with lower limb elastic resistance to improve the level of PADL, length of hospital stay and muscle strength of COPD exacerbation inpatients. Methods: Inter and intra-rater reliability study of QFM strength with a portable dynamometer in 50 COPD patients and their tolerance to protocol was performed; a randomized clinical study of 21 COPD exacerbation inpatients who assessed the effect of elastic resistance intervention for short and long term on QFM strength and level of PADL. Results: Excellent intra- and inter-rater reliability were found in QFM strength (ICC>0.95 e p<0.001) in both lower limbs and the protocol was well tolerated by the patients. The intervention did not have a significant short-term impact on the PADL level, but there was. In the long term, both groups improved the level of PADL, but there was interaction between the intervention and the time in the recovery of QFM strength in both lower limbs (right: p<0.001; left p<0.001). Conclusion: There is an excellent intra- and inter-rater reliability in the portable dynamometer strength test for the QFM and the protocol was tolerated by patients. Finally, there was no short- and long-term impact of elastic resistance training on PADL level. However, there was a long-term impact on recovery of QFM strength.

This study aimed to evaluate the degree of resilience, self - esteem, satisfaction and body perception of students from public schools in the city of São Carlos (SP), Elementary School II, and their correlation with biometric and sociodemographic parameters. Methods: Quantitative research approved by the institutional CEP (Opinion 1,218,390). Measured weight, height and BMI. Applied questionnaires: Sociodemographic, Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale, Resilience Scale and Body Perception Scale by Tiggeman and Barret. Statistical analysis: analysis of variance (Kruskall-Wallis) or Mann-Whitney test, according to the number of variables; Fisher's test; Spearman's correlation test; multiple correlation analysis and ODDs ratio. Significance level adopted 5%. Results: Evaluated 888 students from 12 schools in the city of São Carlos. There was no significant difference between the self-esteem values of the individuals classified by BMI, however the girls presented lower self-esteem than the boys (p = 0.0012). There was no significant difference in resilience values according to BMI or gender. Eutrophic students of both sexes showed adequate body perception, while the obese and overweight were perceived with smaller bodies (p <0.0001). 70% of the population reported being dissatisfied with their body. The overweight and obese individuals wished to have smaller bodies and the male eutrophic wished larger bodies. Discussion: This study showed that self-esteem and resilience do not vary in different age groups due to BMI and have no correlation with weight and height, but it has a strong correlation with sex, since girls have lower self-esteem when compared to boys. The data of corporal perception showed that the students classified as eutrophic, of both sexes have an adequate body perception, whereas the obese and overweight individuals perceive themselves with smaller bodies. When measuring the degree of satisfaction of female and male students in relation to their biotypes, it was found that students classified as overweight and obese would like to have smaller bodies, and females classified as eutrophic would like to have bodies similar to those they have. Male eutrophic students, on the other hand, would like to have larger bodies. The data presented add fundamental information related to the psychological profile of adolescents classified by sex and body weight, which should be carefully considered by professionals and managers of the Health System, so that clinical care and public health policies are more appropriate to the characteristics, anxieties and difficulties of this population.

Heterogeneous photocatalysis is a technology that can be used for the treatment of wastewater and one of the interesting aspects of this technique is the possibility of using visible light (solar) to activate the photocatalyst. However, the photocatalytic properties of the materials typically used in this process still need to be optimized so that they can be sensitive to this type of radiation. To overcome this limitation, this work describes a new and versatile method to obtain visible-light-harvesting photocatalysts based on the peroxo-niobium oxide synthetized by the oxidant peroxo method (OPM) and crystallized under hydrothermal conditions in a one-step approach. The ability of Nb2O5 to form reactive oxygen species (peroxo and superoxo) using the OPM method was investigated in respect to the Nb/H2O2 molar ratio (1:2, 1:5, 1:10 and 1:12) in the synthesis medium. The structural and surface properties of the synthesized materials were characterized by XRD, Raman spectroscopy, TEM, N2 adsorption, FTIR, XPS and UV-Vis DRS. The photocatalytic activity was evaluated by monitoring the oxidation of caffeic acid, a toxic and recalcitrant phenolic compound present in the effluents of winemaking and coffee processing. The results revealed an increase in the photoactivity of the materials when using Nb/H2O2 molar ratios greater than 1:2 due to the higher amount of reactive oxygen species formed on the niobia surface, suggesting that the peroxo groups allowed the activation of the photocatalyst under visible light and superoxo anions contributed to increase the photocatalytic efficiency. In addition to the hydrogen peroxide content, the autogenous pressure developed during the hydrothermal reaction was essential for the formation of these species, since the increase of the H2O2 concentration in the synthesis medium caused a significant increase of the autogenous pressure.

This dissertation has the proposal to discuss the importance of the not yet appeared words - in the standard lexicon - as tools to fight for equal rights for social minority groups and to understand this as an important space for social movements and struggles. Besides noticing the necessity of the emerging of words, or to at least save the spot for them, in order to diagnose society's issues that are not treated due to the lack of lexical recognition, providing progress and changes in political constructions and in the common sense. Therefore, this essay, looking at a specific group, researched all the Brazilian legislation directed to the disabled person in order to reach which words were added after the creation of certain laws, as well as how they evolved - such as accessibility and universal design - and your fundamental meanings. Seeking to comprehend the dynamics between people who alter the meanings of words and words that modify people and the social duel laid down from them. By comparing texts, legislations and historical contexts of this groups, we are proposed to query how far the words are determining and reductionist of the world, in order to highlight the importance to draft new models by creating "new meanings", symbolic struggles and new words.

This research tries to inhabit the existential territory of Brazilian Popular Culture. It was funded by CAPES (Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel) in its development, which enabled the research to be carried out. The purpose of this study is to investigate how popular jokes based on Afro-Brazilian civilization values constitute ways of being and being in the world that can inspire the search for lifelines: the bragging way of life in favor of the expansion of power of life. We sought to make this research an experience of the exercise of thought in order to experience thinking without bureaucratizing it, without killing the curiosity, the desire to think, to reinvent. Traditional African cultures have much to teach. They are clues that, in spite of what is instituted as universal thought, other worlds are possible. Thinking about the gibbering way of life and from it, is a form of resistance to a hegemonic model that is instituted. This work is the search for the construction of other ways of being and being in the world that contemplate our needs and affections. It is the resistance against non-pasteurisation of our lives.

This study attempts to understand the meaning and the sense of a Socio educative Measures Program, from the arrested teenagers’ perspective, at the Socioeducational Correctional Center in Cuiabá-MT, on males’ confinement, located at Pomeri complex, institution linked to the Justice and Human Rights Secretariat (SEJUDH/MT in Portuguese). The Socio Educative Measures Program has a social and pedagogical character, that is, educational and social, in order to promote the youngsters’ personal development, so that they are able to build another life project. The questions that guides this investigation are: how do arrested teenagers signify the educational processes they experience and which expectations do they manifest for social practices on the Socioeducational Correctional Center? This study’s theoretical reference is anchored in authors such as: Freire, Fairclough and Costa, among others who share the relationship between world view, of being human and of education as theoretical fundaments. This study is of qualitative approach and the following methodological resources were used: data collection during conversation rounds. The interactions’ records happened during the workshops by using field notes organized on a field journal. Analyses’ results show, through the youngsters’ speech, the dialogical relationship and the socio educational action, the ambivalent representations of the educational processes experienced by the youngsters and the expectations they manifested. The youngsters’ speech showed how they mean the educative processes, what it is like to do time, and it shows paths which may contribute to the Socio Educational Measures Program from Mato Grosso state, at the building of alternatives so that they can approach the youngsters and to offer activities which have talks with their daily lives, their expectations and interests, with the objective to overcome and to ressignify their lives.

The effect of product inhibition on yeast hinders the production of wine with ethanol concentration above 80.0 g L-1 (~10 °GL) in the industrial ethanol production process commonly performed at 34 °C. Lowering the fermentation temperature is a way to produce wines with higher ethanol contents. In this work, batch fermentations were carried out at temperatures of 28, 30, 32, and 34 °C, with initial substrate concentration of 180.0 g L-1, using industrial yeast under conditions reproducing those found in Brazilian distilleries. The Andrews-Levenspiel hybrid kinetic model, considering viable cells, showed an excellent fit to the experimental data. The model kinetic parameters were used to simulate and optimize fed-batch fermentations at different temperatures, resulting in satisfactory descriptions of the process behaviors. A new optimization strategy to obtain the maximum possible ethanol production, based on the CEmax parameter of the Andrews-Levenspiel kinetic model (Maximum concentration of ethanol after which cell growth ceased), provided ethanol production of up to 134.7 g L-1 (17.1 °GL) at 28 ºC and 305.4 g L-1 substrate. A modification was made to the Andrews-Levenspiel kinetic model, relating the parameter “n” (dimensionless constant related to the toxic potential of the product) to the final ethanol concentration (CEf), in order to enable the model to describe the behavior of fed-batch fermentations performed with high substrate concentration and at temperatures from 28 to 34 ºC. In addition, simulations were carried out with high initial cell concentration to verify the increase of process productivity. The results showed that the original model presented limitations to represent process behavior with high cell concentration in the inoculum, being necessary a readjustment of the model to the experimental data obtaining new values for the kinetic parameters.

Background: Reduced muscle strength and loss of functional capacity are observed with aging. Studies have shown that additionally to the inherent cognitive decline, decreased strength, balance, and mobility are observed in Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, the understanding of muscle performance evaluated by an isokinetic machine in older adults with AD compared to Cognitively Preserved individuals is still scarce in the literature. Objective: To compare the lower limbs’ strength performance of older adults with AD and Cognitively Preserved individuals by analyzing the knee isometric and concentric torques during the extension and flexion movements. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted where a sample of 40 older adults was divided into two groups: AD (n = 20) and Cognitively Preserved (n = 20). The following parameters were collected: Knee isometric and concentric torques (60°/s and 180°/s), Time Up and Go, Alternate Step (8x), 5x and 30 seconds Sit-to-Stand test, Handgrip Strength, Modified Baecke Questionnaire for Older Adults, Addenbrooke's Cognitive Examination-Revised and Geriatric Depression Scale. For statistical analysis, the Shapiro-Wilk, Student t and ChiSquare tests were used and a 5% significance level was set a priori. Results: The AD group presented lower values in muscle performance (total work) for knee extension (p=0.02). No significant differences were found for isometric and concentric torques. The Alternate Step (p=0.02) and the Addenbrooke's Cognitive Examination-Revised (p=0.01) were significantly diferente, being the group of AD with worse performance. Conclusion: This study identified a decreased muscle performance (concentric at 180°/s) of the quadriceps muscles during the knee extension movement in older adults with AD.

In the aeronautical industry, aircraft manufacturers demonstrate outstanding ability to develop new and complex products with the participation of important partners, sharing risks with the required investments, taking advantage of complementary knowledge and seeking gains for those involved. On the other hand, the partnerships, governed by contracts, present transaction costs. In this scenario, this research looks at the concepts of Transaction Cost Economics (TCE) the attributes to analyze the transactions that occur during the development of products in an aircraft manufacturer of the Brazilian aeronautical industry. The results of this case study are shown in the final report: transaction costs confirmation for product development are highlighted, indicating which transactions presented the presence or absence of some type of asset specificity, high frequency of exchange and presence of moral hazard in the contracts. For product development theory, this research contributes to the literature, since it relates aspects of transaction costs to the causes of conflicts, misalignments or mistrust present in projects developed in partnerships. For TCE, this study confirms the theoretical assumptions and provides a method for analyzing transaction costs applicable in other empirical studies. Practitioners find in this study the generation of new knowledge that can be used to improve current practice, be it in hiring partners or in defining governance strategies as well. This study addresses issues of relationship with partners that can be managed to reduce transaction costs and consequently increase the competitiveness of product development.

This study aims to seek complementary variables to the analysis of the relationship between the Executive and the Legislature concerning the Brazilian decision making process, under the approach of presidential success and failure, starting from the assumption that the institutional bases of the coalition presidentialism, well stablished by the Brazilian political science, are necessary but not sufficient to explain the operation of its political system. The evidences of such insufficiency come from the analysis of an explicit presidential failure suffered by president Lula – the end of the Provisional Contribution on Financial Transactions – by sustaining that conflict and cooperation don’t only rely upon the distribution of decisional assets among the relevant actors to the decision-making process, but also on the bargain protocols, the bicameral dynamics, the content of the discussed propositions – and, in this case, the confluence of agendas that stablish some kind of intersection in relation to the one in study – and the decision-making environment, based on the path dependece of these policies.

This work aims to understand the potential of alterity in the discourses of social propagandadisseminated in a network. For this, we seek to highlight social propaganda as a specific discursive genre - which takes care of propagating socially relevant content - and to reflect about the use of digital media in this type of propaganda campaign. In this way, we rely essentially on Mikhail Bakhtin's studies philosophy of language, interweaving their conceptsto authors who, together with the latter, problematize the figure of the Other in the relations held in the context of cyberspace. Subsequently, we apply the reflections to studies about social propaganda, differentiating this from other parallel communicationals genres. Through these theoretical structures, we deepened the discussion of this genre through the campaign "Ice Bucket Challenge", which, disseminated in the networks of cyberspace, aimed to awaken senses of alterity in contemporary society and developed itself as a response to the relationship between the Self and the Other carried out in this environment.
