    LIMA, C. A. S. High Skills/Leadership Giftedness: identification and supplementation for elementary school I. Master’s dissertation. Post-Graduation Programo of Special Education. Federal University of São Carlos, 2019. High Ability /Giftedness (HA/G) students demonstrate high potential in any of this areas isolated or combined: intellectual, academic, leadership, psychomotor and arts, furthermore showing great creativity, involvement in learning and performing tasks in areas of interest, according to the law. Although Leadership is one of the areas in HA/G, few studies are found in Brazil on this context, and even less in the school context. The school has an academic bias that difficult the identification on plans for potential development of students with leadership indicators. It was thought in identification in students with leadership profile at school, specifically in elementary school and how it would be this procedure for evaluation. This way it was decided to split this work into two independent studies that interweave themselves: Step 1 – High Ability/Giftedness in Leadership: Initial referral of the elementary school students and Step 2 – Enrichment of students with leadership characteristics in elementary school. The step 1 aimed to indicate gifted leadership students in a municipal public school, in the inland city of São Paulo. The draw of the research was descriptive and field study. A hundred ninety (190) students, and fifteen (15) teachers took part of the research. The instruments used were questionnaires for the teacher description; Indicator ckecklist (LIVIAHSD); Questionnaires to high ability/giftedness indication (QIIAHSD-PR); Appointment leadership list (CNL). The results pointed to seven (7) students with leadership characteristics and considered the instruments effective for identifying. The Step 2 objectives were: to plan and to accomplish a curriculum enrichment project to students with high ability/giftedness with leadership characteristics at the multifunctional resource room enrolled in an elementary school in the municipal public school in the city of São Paulo. The research was characterized in descriptive study and action research. The seven students indicated (Step 1) took part to the curriculum enrichment project (step 2) at the multifunctional resource room in the specialized educational service. The enrichments were performed type I and II with chosen themes by the students. It happened at the school in opposite time of the classes. The students could experience diversified activities and the results were positive due to the involvement of all students with the activities. Key words: High Ability/Giftedness. Leadership.     Fractures cause non-union and delay in bone consolidation, those problems are associated with a substantial physical incapacity and high socioeconomic costs and it’s considered an important clinical challenge. In this context, some biomaterials have been investigated to accelerate the consolidation of fractures and to be effective for bone grafting. One of the most promising strategies to improve the biological performance of bone grafts is the combination of different biomaterials. In this context, the aim of this work was to evaluate through in vitro assay (study I) and in vivo study (study II) the effects of the incorporation of marine spongin (SPG) from Aplysina fulva into Hydroxyapatite (HA) for bone tissue engineering proposals. In the study I, SPG and HA scaffolds with different proportions (HA/SPG 90/10 and HA/SPG 70/30) were produced. For this, the following procedures were evaluated: scaffolds mass loss after incubation, pH, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and in vitro cell viability. Regarding study II, HA and HA/SPG 70/30 scaffolds were produced and SEM analysis was performed to characterize the samples. Also, in order to evaluate the in vivo tissue response, samples were implanted into a tibial bone defect in rats. Histopathological, immunohistochemistry and biomechanical analyzes were performed after 2 and 6 weeks of implantation to investigate the effects of the material on bone repair. The results of study I showed that pH measurements presented no statistical difference between the groups. Moreover, a higher mass loss was observed for HA/SPG70/30 compared to the other groups for all experimental periods. Moreover, SEM representative micrographs showed the degradation of the samples. FTIR analysis demonstrated the absorption peaks of the materials. A higher L929 cell viability for HA/SPG 70/30 was observed compared to HA and HA/SPG 90/10 on days 7 of culture. Furthermore, HA/SPG 70/30 showed a significant lower MC3T3 cell viability compared to HA and HA/SPG 90/10 on day 1. After 3 days the HA group showed lower cell viability when compared to the control group and HA/SPG 70/30. In the study II, it was possible to observe through the SEM results that SPG were successfully inserted in the HA, forming a homogeneous scaffold. The histological analysis demonstrated that the HA/SPG (70/30) group presented an accelerated material degradation and enhanced newly bone formation compared to the HA group. Additionally, histomorphometry analysis showed higher values of %BV/TV and N.Ob/T.Ar for HA/SPG (70/30) compared to the HA. Immunohistochemical analyzes, the Runx-2 immunolabelling was observed in granulation tissue and newly formed bone for all experimental groups. Furthermore, HA/SPG (70/30) showed an increase of immunolabelling compared to the other groups. Moreover, the VEGF immunolabelling was observed in granulation tissue for all experimental groups however, no difference was found. The biomechanical analysis demonstrated similar values for all groups. Considering the results of the two studies it is concluded that SPG can be used as an additive in HA, especially the one mimicking the composition of bone (with 70% of HA and 30% of SPG), providing an improvement in biological performance for bone regeneration applications. However, further long-term studies should be carried out to provide additional information regarding the material degradation and bone regeneration.

    Introduction: Injectable medications are often used in health services, the knowledge of the professionals and adherence to good practices are essential for safety during their preparation and administration, which minimizes the risks of existing infection. Objective: To develop and to validate an instrument to measure the knowledge of nursing professionals about infection prevention in the administration of injectable medications. Method: Methodological study of quantitative approach. The conceptual structure of the instrument was guided on the situational diagnosis made with nursing professionals from the State of São Paulo, on national and international publications and guides about the subject. The evaluation was by face recognition and valuable content. To select the judges, the criteria used was: minimum professional experience of two years in assistance, experience in infection control or to be a researcher in the department of nursing in infection control department. For the assessment of each department an agreement rate above 80% was considered appropriate, for the items assessment, were considered valid those with Content Validity Index ≥ 0,8. After, the pre-test was performed with nursing professionals by snowball technique. Results: Final instrument consisting of 24 items, divided into four domains: preparation of the workplace, preparation of injectable medications, administration of injectable medications and disposal of sharps. Eleven judges validated the instrument, three domains obtained an agreement rate below 80% in relation to the inclusion of items, and that´s what were added three items, one item for each domain. In spite of all items reached a CVI> 0,80, twelve items had changed on the essay by suggestion of the judges. The pre-test was performed with 34 nursing professionals, and nine items had changed on the essay as suggested by the target audience. Conclusion: Tool developed by face validation and content, available to measure the knowledge of nursing professionals about infection prevention in the administration of injectable medications.

    Based on the understanding that socio-spatial segregation occurs as a strategy for the real estate sector and for the State, preventing portions of the population from having access to decent housing, we sought to problematize the issue by analyzing the process of territorialization of groups of residents living in condominiums in a situation of land tenure irregularity in the western periphery of Sorocaba-SP. The cut of the Residencial Ipatinga and Parque dos Eucaliptos condominiums serves as an empirical basis to support this problem. For this, the historical process of housing financing and the periphery of housing in the city was analyzed in order to apprehend the production of socio-spatial segregation. Then it was verified how some social groups adapted or overcome this condition of exclusion. The practices present in these places reveal strategies for adapting to the conditions imposed by the hegemonic agents, constituting norms created locally, but which are connected to different scales and levels of reality. In this way, a theoretical exercise was carried out brought the global context of the place closer, exposing the nexus between the hegemonic use of the territory taken as a resource, and the hegemonized use of a territory built as a shelter.

    Parameter estimation in nonlinear mixed-effects models is often challenging. In this thesis, a comparison of estimation methods for these models is proposed under a frequentist approach. In the first study, a comparison of maximum likelihood estimates under an exact method via Monte Carlo expectation-maximization (MCEM) and an approximate method based on a Taylor expansion, frequently used in the literature, is provided. In a second study, a restricted maximum likelihood estimation method is proposed, aiming to decrease the bias for the variance components estimates, based on the integration of the likelihood function on the fixed-effects, also in an exact likelihood context. These estimates are compared to the maximum likelihood ones. For the latter comparison, stochastic approximation of expectation-maximization (SAEM) algorithms are considered. The random effects and errors are assumed to follow multivariate symmetric distributions, namely the scale mixture of normal distributions, which include the normal, t and slash distributions. Finally, a general nonlinear mixed-effects model is proposed, where no linear relation is assumed in the random effects structure. In all the proposals, real data sets and simulation studies are used to illustrate the estimates’ properties.

    Development of seminconductor nanowire materials for electronic and photonics applications

    The thesis is concerned with study of GaAs nanowires fabricated on Si substrate. The possibility of growing III-V semiconductor materials directly on silicon in the form of nanowires is an attractive route to the integration of microelectronic, photonic and optoelectronic technologies. To this end, development of functional heterostructure require effective and controllable doping but the dopant incorporation mechanisms involved in nanowire growth can be quite different from the well-established semiconductors thin film technology. The interplay of the different dopant incorporation mechanisms and the competition between axial and radial growth can result in dopant concentration gradients in the nanowires. As a key technology development enabling the study of transport properties in nanowires, a method for fabricating electrical contacts on single NWs using electron- beam lithography is reported. On the other hand, the reduced dimensions and the quasi one-dimensional nanowire geometry are challenging factors for the fabrication of electrical contacts in the correct geometry for Hall effect measurement, which is traditionally used in planar film to determine the dopant concentration and carriers mobility. Therefore, alternative techniques were employed to gain an understanding of the dopant incorporation mechanisms. To this end, Raman spectroscopy and current-voltage analysis on single-nanowire were used to estimate the spatial distribution of the Be and Te dopants along the axial direction of GaAs nanowires. The study reveals that the dopant incorporation mechanisms are strongly affected by the growth conditions for both p-type and n-type GaAs nanowires, resulting in gradients of dopant concentration along the nanowires. Besides the carrier transport properties, the waveguide properties of semiconductor nanowires were explored in the area of chiral sensing and emission of circularly polarized light. By fabricating asymmetric gold layers deposited on the nanowires sidewalls and under the adequate experimental conditions an extrinsic optical chirality configuration is achieved. The results show a strong chiral behavior in both absorption and emission of the partially Au-coated nanowires, and paves the way for applications such as chiral sensing and emitting devices.

    The aim of this thesis is to outline ways of conceiving growth, marriage and death among the Panará, people speaking the Gê language that inhabits the Panará Indigenous Land, covering the north of Mato Grosso and southern Pará. At the same time, the contours of social relations that are configured as creation are traced, exploring how they connect to the perceptions of the growing body, the marrying body and even the body that changes when it dies. It is observed that the creation focuses on contexts of action related to the nutrition of the bodies and the relations practiced by them, involving the participation of the dead. It is discussed how the latter become constituent parts of socius. In discussing creation as a social model, it is considered how its articulation with mutual care is unstably configured, since the conflict is unveiled as inherent to the condition of existing. At the same time, it reverberates in the notion of person, indicated in it that being good and bad are powers of existences.
