In this work, a study of the Anderson model is done for the case of a quantum dot between two electron gases, single-electron transistor (SET), where a Coulombian repulsion term was added at the orbitals that are directly coupled to the quantum dot. The resulting model was treated by the Numerical Renormalization Group technique. The thermodynamic properties of the quantum dot were studied and a preliminary study of the conductance in the linear response regime as a function of the temperature was done. The change in the model Hamiltonian made it necessary to compute manually the initial matrices entering the Numerical Renormalization Group program. In general, the two conduction bands, corresponding to the electric contacts, can be manipulated so that one of them ends decoupled from the quantum dot. With the new term added, this decoupling is impossible, being necessary to reformulate how the conductance is computed. The contribution of the quantum dot to some thermodynamic properties was calculated and studied, with emphasis on the behavior of the Kondo temperature. For the study of the conductance, it was proposed a calculation method that proved very expensive computationally, preventing us to generate data for the case of coupled bands during the time of the Master of Science. However, an analysis of the addition of the Coulombian repulsion in the case of uncoupled bands was done.

    Synthesis and biotransformation of diarylpentadienones
(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2019-12-20) Alabi, Zaccheaus Oluwatayo; Rodrigues-Filho, Edson; https://lattes.cnpq.br/3667941735597178; https://lattes.cnpq.br/0269927981394465
SYNTHESIS AND BIOTRANSFORMATION OF DIARYLPENTADIENONES. Naturally-occuring compounds containing bis-aryl moiety are important components of fine chemicals required by pharmaceutical, agrochemical and flavor industries. These compounds have inspired the synthesis of several of their analogs such as the diarylpentadienones. These synthetic analogs possess equal or better potential compared to their lead compounds. As part of the ongoing efforts in our laboratory to enlarge the diarylpentadienones library, we synthesized some monoarylidenes and diarylpentadienones (compounds 2, 4, 5, 6) and biotransformed them and some others obtained from the previous works in our laboratory (compounds 7, 8 and 9) using Penicillium brasilianum and Saccharomyces cerevisiae to modify them and enlarge their library. In our finding, the resting cells of P. brasilianum reduced monoarylidene 2 to 10 and further oxidized it to 11 in a Baeyer-Villiger-like manner. However, no biotransformation product was detected when diarylpentadinones 4, 5, 7 and 8 were fed into the fungi. Also, baker’s yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae reduced 9 to 10 and 11 in a regioselective manner. Further investigation into why P. brasilianum was not able to reduce and/or oxidized diarylpentadienones used must be carried out.

Brazilian music is a formidable mixture of rhythms and their variations, rhythms that we can play in a variety of instruments and forms, we often synthesize the rhythm of one or more instruments in just one accompanied instrument. When I decided to become a pianist, and also, to play Brazilian music, specifically speaking of Samba and Bossa Nova, I faced the challenge of putting all these instruments together. However, during my musical education process I have been in contact with some manuals that helped me to solve some problems in this regard. In this work, we compared these manuals, also addressing their content and specific aspects of them, giving the reader safe sources for researching these rhythms.

(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2019-12-20) Oliveira, Tamires Donizeth de; Castellano, Eduardo Ernesto; https://lattes.cnpq.br/7416526225245942; Batista, Alzir Azevedo; https://lattes.cnpq.br/6469642481998660; https://lattes.cnpq.br/5028197424162870
In this work, two series of phosphine complexes containing acylthiourea ligands were synthesized, characterizatied and evaluatied of the cytotoxic activities. The first series of compounds was composed of complexes with the general formula [RuLn (bipy) (P-P)] PF6, where Ln = N ', N'-dimethyl-N-benzoyl thiourea (L1), N', N'-dimethyl-N-thiophenyl thiourea (L2) or N ', N'-dimethyl-N-furoyl thiourea (L3); bipy = 2,2'-bipyridine and P-P: 1,2-bis (diphenylphosphine) ethane (dppe) or 1,4-bis (diphenylphosphine) butane (dppb) and the second series of complexes with the formula [MLn(dppe)]BF4, where M = NiII, PdII or PtII. The complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance (31P{1H}, 1H and 13C{1H}, COSY, HMBC and HSQC), cyclic voltammetry and X-ray diffraction. The cytotoxic activity of the complexes against breast (MDA-MB-231 (tumor); MCF-7 (tumor); MCF-10A (non-tumor)) and lung (A549 (tumor); MRC-5 (non-tumor)) tumor and non tumor cell lines was performed by MTT assay. The first series of complexes showed activity and selectivity for all tumor lines evaluated, while the second series of complexes showed better results in breast tumor cell lines. The complexes of series 1 (3 and 6) and 2 (8, 10 and 12) when evaluated in the breast tumor line (MDA-MB-231) inhibited colony formation, altered morphology and inhibited cell migration from the Wound Healing assay. Still in the same breast tumor lineage, they led to an accumulation of cells in Sub-G1 phase on cell cycle analysis. The compounds 3 and 6 induced cell death by apoptosis. All complexes shown weak reversible interactions via minor groove of CT-DNA and the series 1 complexes interacted with the HSA protein.

The research question that guided this doctoral work was: What concepts and strategies are used in the routine of a classroom with 5 year old children during the development of these children's voluntary care? The general objective was to identify and analyze the processes of development or not of voluntary care, based on the concepts and strategies worked in the routine of a classroom with children of 5 years old. The methodology was subsidized by the Historical-Cultural Theory, based on the method of dialectical historical materialism. The instruments used were field diaries, official college documents, observation protocol, video camera and voice recorder. Regarding the research phases, there were four: introductory, field, analytical and conclusive. The first contemplated the submission and permission to conduct the research to the UFSCar Ethics Committee, the second consisted of preparatory observation and participant observation in the school class, the third in the study of the information produced with the children, choice of analysis criteria, systematization the guidelines for the analysis and selection of the didactic sequence based on the type of research, the qualitative and, finally, the last phase for the interpretation of information and analysis approaches. The unit of analysis was configured in the possibilities of developing voluntary care present in activities developed by the teacher of a 5-year-old child in the stage of Early Childhood Education. The results indicated that five strategies used by the teacher drew the attention of children in teaching situations, they were: guide questions; technology, practical actions, role play and written record added to the pictorial. Regarding the concepts worked on, we saw that the theme referred to the basic traffic laws associated with everyday concepts. When we relate these two elements [strategies and concepts] in the routine of a classroom with 5 year old children to the development processes of voluntary care, we identify that there was success in the way of provoking it. However, the pedagogical processes, in the way they were organized and proposed to children, presented limitations regarding the stability of concentration and the distribution of attention, fundamental characteristics for the development of voluntary care. The research evidenced, therefore, that the deepening of the quality of thought and language in human beings depends on the type of voluntary attention developed during the experiences in social relationships: the more intentionally mediated, the more it becomes qualified; the greater the awareness and volitiveness in voluntary care processes at school, the more chances of development and mastery of human conduct. So, it is possible to develop activities in Early Childhood Education that aim to develop the voluntary care of children aged 5 years

Although the electric guitar has been more and more an investigation object by the academy, there are still important conclusions missing regarding its dynamic characteristics. To offer a contribution over this panorama, a modal analysis was performed having a beam and a Squier by Fender Stratocaster 50 th Anniversary guitar as objects. Altogether with experimental bench tests, analytical and modeling strategies were employed to the AISI 1020 steel beam, while the musical instrument had its dynamics described only with the aid of empirical inputs. For the tests, impacts of unknown force were deployed on two locations of both objects, that were instrumented with four ADXL 335 accelerometers each and connected to a National Instruments cDAQ-9178 chassis equipped with a NI-9201 voltage modulus for the data acquisition. An Arduino UNO board was used as voltage source for the sensors. After data processing via MATLAB, the natural frequencies of 7.34, 65.43 and 107.35 Hz, respectively for the 1 st , 3 rd and 4 th vibrational modes of the beam and 56.08, 140.65, 185.50 and 210.90 Hz for the guitar’s 1 st , 2 nd , 3 rd and 4 th modes were obtained. An Output-only modal analysis (OOMA) Frequency Domain Decomposition (FDD) algorithm was performed for the beam and the guitar, resulting in correct shapes for the 1 st , 3 rd and 4 th beam modes and the 1 st , 2 nd and 3 rd guitar modes. It was verified that poor sensor positioning and implementation of the experiment hindered some of the result reached. In general, it was concluded that the FDD technique must be aligned to other excitation methods in order to fully work, while natural frequencies can be accessed through simpler methods.

Pseudo-parallel immersions in SnxR and HnxR, and constant anisotropic mean curvature surfaces in R3
(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2019-12-20) Tassi, Marcos Paulo; Gálvez López, José Antonio; https://lattes.cnpq.br/4796426448580641; Villagra, Guillermo Antonio Lobos; https://lattes.cnpq.br/6962956853017869; https://lattes.cnpq.br/1570725927893832
In this Ph.D. thesis, we investigate two topics in Differential Geometry. The first topic refers to the study of pseudo-parallel submanifolds in the ambient spaces SnxR and HnxR. We complete the partial classification given by F. Lin and B. Yang. As a consequence, we classify minimal and constant mean curvature pseudo-parallel hypersurfaces. We also prove a characterization of pseudo-parallel surfaces in SnxR and HnxR, for n ≥ 4, and the non-existence of pseudo-parallel surfaces with non-vanishing normal curvature, when n=3. The second part of the thesis is devoted to the study of constant anisotropic mean curvature surfaces in R3. We obtain a Bernstein-type Theorem for multigraphs with constant anisotropic mean curvature, an anisotropic version of a theorem proved by D. Hoffman, R. Osserman and R. Schoen, in 1982. As a consequence, we prove that complete surfaces with non-zero constant anisotropic mean curvature and whose Gaussian curvature does not change sign are either the Wulff shape or cylinders. We prove uniform height estimates for vertical graphs with non-zero constant anisotropic mean curvature and planar boundary, a generalization of the theorem proved by W. Meeks, in 1988, and we obtain uniform height estimates for compact embedded surfaces with non-zero constant anisotropic mean curvature and planar boundary, as a corollary. We also prove, under certain symmetry hypothesis on the anisotropy function, the non-existence of properly embedded surfaces in R3 with non-zero constant anisotropic mean curvature and with just one end.

The search for teaching strategies that provide more learning and participation from the Special Education Target Audience (SETA) in the learning context is a challenge for teachers and schools. Among these possibilities, this research is based on Peer Tutoring (PT) where the strategy involves both academic performance and intersocial relationships, capable of meeting diversity, finding on the tutor student a teaching instrument, which interacts with a classmate, the tutored one. Based on a qualitative approach this research has essential enforcement and when it comes to the procedure, field research. The commonplace goal was to elaborate, develop and evaluate a PT program on Intellectual Disability (ID) around the classroom of an elementary school – late graduation grades and specific goals, analyze and evaluate the results of this strategy for the participation by the ID student, on tutor and tutored relationship, on the expectations from tutors and teachers involved in the tutorial action and its impressions, understandings and feelings from it after the attendance of the involved ones. The study took part at a state public school located in a small town from the countryside of São Paulo State. Engaged in this study an ID student, three tutor students, a Portuguese Language and a Math teachers. The data collection procedure had five primaries observations sessions plus thirty others continuous observations sessions, registered in notes fields, eight tutoring meetings that took place during the program and six starting as six concluding interviews with all participants. In the data analysis was adopted the technique of Content Analysis with ten established categories. The results showed that, when organized and integrated into the daily classroom dynamics, the PT strategy contributed to the inclusion of the ID student, leveling the interactions involving the peers and teachers and his responsiveness to the proposed activities, resulting in an increased participation of the classroom environment. The results presented three topics that deserve better elaboration for the maintenance of the PT strategy: 1) the amount of selected and trained tutors must attend the minimal number necessary to avoid making them overloaded; 2) is necessary to elaborate strategies to decrease the frequency of intervention due to the dependence that the tutee establishes; 3) the affinity from the tutor to the tutored, same should be considered to reach the teacher who will carry out the strategy. The intention with this research is to describe the process of implementing a strategy to meet the diversity and contribute to the practice from the teachers, contributing to the changeover of the paradigm which sets the teacher as the only one responsible to the learning and development of the SETA student. It is a conversion of perspective when establishing that the students themselves may assist the teacher in mediating academic and social skills in class. Likewise, there is an effort to contribute theoretically and practically to the development of PT in the Brazilian educational condition.

The University Publishers use the peer review method to analyze and evaluate the books that will be released. This method is essential for the publishing quality, however there are challenges on the identification and selection of the peers, due to the possible bias and subjectivity of the review. The objective of this research is to develop and apply a method to identify and select researchers, to work as peers for the University Publishers. The action research method was used, and the case study unit was EdUFSCar (Publisher for the Federal University of São Carlos). Bibliometrics were used as a technique of information analysis, and the software VantagePoint for the data processing and analysis of the information acquired from the Lattes Platform, including the professors’ scientific papers. The professors were identified through the Sucupira Platform, and work in Postgraduate programs (Masters/Doctorate) acknowledged by CAPES. The obtained results include the development and application of a peer identification and selection systematic, through a set of automated activities. From the discussion of the obtained results, it is concluded that the proposed and applied systematic contributed to a more agile information gathering to identify and select peers, reducing partiality and response time.

Explorando gamificação no ensino de teste de software
(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2019-12-20) Jesus, Gabriela Martins de; Ferrari, Fabiano Cutigi; https://lattes.cnpq.br/3154345471250570; https://lattes.cnpq.br/2175151729086312
Context: Testing is a fundamental activity in the development process, and aims at revealing faults. Despite its importance, the time devoted to testing education has not been enough, resulting in the lack of trained professionals. Other problems faced are misalignment between what is taught and what is applied in the industry, inefficiency of lectures, unattractive classes, and lack of practical activities. Aiming at solving them, alternative educational approaches have been investigated, such as serious games, flipped classroom, and gamification. Gamification, in turn, is a promising trend that uses game elements in real-world contexts in order to increase people’s motivation and engagement in tasks that require external stimuli, especially in educational contexts. Objectives: Contributing to software testing education by investigating whether the use of gamification in this context increases students’ motivation and performance when compared to the conventional approach.Method: A systematic literature mapping was carried out aiming at characterizing how gamification has been explored in the software testing context. In addition, some of the problems faced by testing education were identified through an ad-hoc search. Then, a gamified approach was developed, and a platform was implemented containing the created approach. Experimental sessions were run, and the collected results were analyzed. Results: In general, it is not possible to state that the motivation and performance of students who learned through the gamified approach is higher than those who learned through the conventional approach, given that, for each experimental group, the results were different when compared with the control group. However, the experience of having used this alternative approach is considered positive, as it provided a more enjoyable and funny environment, both from the researcher’s and students’ point of view.

This work aims at describing the relations between predicative nouns and their arguments, establishing their frequency while seeking syntactic and semantic correlations with such numbers. In order to describe predicate and argument sequences observed in a Brazilian Portuguese newspaper corpus, we employ the transformational theory used in Lexicon-Grammar. This theory apprehends different syntactic manifestations as transformations departing from a kernel sentence, i.e., in Portuguese, a sentence containing a single predicate and its arguments in SVO order. Noun predicates kernel sentences include auxiliary verbs "have", "give" or "do" immediately prior to the predicative element; those are named support verbs. Also, we attribute semantic roles to the identified arguments. The methodology used to identify noun predicates had as its main element the possibility of reducing a certain sequence to kernel sentences through introspective and empirical means. Hence, we define the transformations of noun predicates occurring along the corpus, analyzing predicate, arguments and support verb sequences, which we call "strings". Subsequently, we established the frequency of strings and correlated them to kernel sentences and the semantic roles identified. The results show that: 1- predicative nouns exhibit some general manifestation patterns, emerging more commonly as noun groups; 2- some of their transformations tend to lead into other transformations; 3- the kernel sentence form, including the elementary support verb, determines or bears relevance to some transformations; 4- the distribution of semantic roles presents an isomorphism with kernel sentences, but bear little correlation with transformations.

The search for alternative sources of energy is a recurring theme in research due to the growth of world energy demand. The development of energy harvesting techniques and devices is required. This work focused on studying two energy energy harvesting devices applied on pavemented roads. Specifically, it was focused on studying one device based on hydraulic elements and the other based on electromechanical elements, of completely different natures. For these were developed their mathematical and computational modeling (in the software MATLAB/SIMULINK) in order to collect results that would allow to investigate and compare their energy potentials. It was concluded that the electromechanical road pavement energy harvesting device has higher energy potential, through the analysis of the simulation results of the computational models.
