    The need to strengthen concrete beams to increase the load capacity due to change not foreseen in the initial project or to problems related to the degradation of this structural system makes the use of composites in Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) a viable alternative for the execution of strengthening systems. However, due to the environment in which FRPs are inserted, their durability can also be affected over time. In this context, the present research aims to evaluate the degradation in the accelerated condition of reinforced concrete beams with and without using the strengthening system with carbon fiber sheets when immersed in constant humidity and controlled temperature. For this, eight reinforced concrete beams were made, with dimensions 12cm x 20cm x 250cm, longitudinal reinforcement rate equal to 0.75%, and concrete with compressive strength of 30MPa. The set of eight beams were divided into two groups according to the exposure environment; four were kept in natural environmental conditions, and four were exposed to the accelerated degradation protocol. In addition, each group had two pairs of beams with and without the application of CFRP strengthening. As a result, there was a significant increase in the load capacity for beams strengthened with CFRP compared to not strengthened, with an average increase of 41.5%. Regarding the influence of the environments, after the exposure period, the beams without the CFRP strengthening system showed similarity both in behavior and in the mode of ruin. However, the strengthened beams showed changes in the failure mode, changing the ductility of the models. To analyze the average bonding stress between the concrete and the strengthening system, pullout tests were executed, showing a reduction of 35.7% compared to the reference model. Finally, the analyzes were performed based on normative recommendations, comparing their maximum load and strain results with those obtained in experimental tests. Therefore, according to the ductility analysis, material deformation, cracking, and failure mode, there was evidence that the humid environment with controlled temperature may have caused degradation in the connection between the strengthening system and the concrete substrate.

    Ionomeric polymer-metal composites (IPMC) consist of an electroactive polymeric matrix coated on both sides with a noble metal. When applying an electrical potential difference, the polymeric membrane changes its thickness, causing a deformation. In addition, this type of device has features such as low weight, flexibility, and biocompatibility. Therefore, as actuators, IPMCs are a good choice for applications such as robotics and biomedicine. However, they have some disadvantages, such as reverse relaxation (tendency to shift in the opposite direction to that defined after some time of operation) and non-linear behavior arising from the hydration level of the polymeric membrane. For these reasons, controlling and describing the mechanical responses of these devices has been a challenge. Therefore, the overall objective of this study was to develop an effective system and instrumentation to control and characterize IPMC actuators under varying moisture and counter-ion conditions. A closed-loop PI controller (Proportional and Integral) aggregate with a machine vision algorithm was used. In this approach, a webcam is responsible for tracking the actuator's movement. However, it was necessary to perform some morphological and electrical characterizations beforehand to understand the properties and thus determine the best control condition for an IPMC actuator. Among them, water adsorption capacity, scanning electron microscopy, four probe method, impedance spectroscopy, and chronoamperometry. The entire system operates simultaneously and is controlled in real-time by LabView. The results prove that the system developed in this study effectively circumventing the reverse relaxation phenomenon and correlating control parameters with material properties.

    This thesis investigated how intra-party democracy has unfolded within two of the largest Brazilian political parties: PT and PSDB. For such, based on a case study, we aimed at the identification to the potential synergies and/or tensions between intra-party democracy and the process of party institutionalization, the formal party organizational structures and the process of candidate selection in PT and PSDB parties. The case study was carried out based on quantitative data, bibliographical sources, documents and semistructured interviews with leaders and candidates that ran for the Chamber of Deputies by the state of São Paulo in the 2018 election. As a result, we identified the existence of contradictory trends related to the implementation of internal democracy within the political parties in question, which at times move towards an expansion of grassroots participation, while at other times advance towards the autonomy of the leaders in detriment to the grassroots party members.

    This dissertation had as general objective to explain the memories of the contribution of the Municipal Council for Women's Rights of Sorocaba to the realization of equal rights and opportunities for women, considering the intersectionality of gender, class, race and sexuality. As specific objectives, the work sought to understand: 1) - The History of the Creation of Women's Councils in Brazil, 2) - Understand how the institutionalization of the women's movement took place and the importance of municipal councils for women's rights; 3) - Learn the history of the Municipal Council for Women's Rights in Sorocaba (Conselho dos Direitos da Mulher de Sorocaba) from the memories of the women who participated in the council. To unravel the proposed questions and point out possible answers, I opted for the oral history methodology. Starting from the following questions: why is it important to listen to the memories of the women who made the history of this council? Why is it important to hear them evoking their lived memories through their narratives? Thus, from these questions, I tried to unravel the scenario in which the remarkable events in the struggle for women's rights in the city of Sorocaba developed, which also express fragments of the struggle for women's rights in Brazil and around the world. By listening to the memories of the women who made the history of this council from 1984 to 2020, I was certainly able to unravel the scenario in which struggles, disputes, frustrations, the limits imposed on the women's movement developed and understand what makes the council a important political field of intervention, constituting a center that remains for debates on gender issues, and also the mechanism for the implementation of public policies for this same segment.

    This thesis analyzes the insertion of women as subjects of humor, more specifically of stand-up comedy, whose professional trajectories and performative constructions are marked by difference and the place of inequality they occupy. Based on a qualitative methodology grounded in interviews with 25 research interlocutors, on the analysis of internet videos and bibliographical research, I support the ambivalences in the debates about women as producers of humor, thinking about the key to the exercise of power. I argue that these ambivalences indicate shifts towards those that were not previously considered as producers of humor, while there are permanencies. Through performance studies, studies on laughter and humor, gender studies and studies on women and humor, I seek the comic making of the stand-up comedy and its power effects on the research interlocutors. I analyze the dispute for professional spaces between the circuits of comedians and the performative strategies of the research interlocutors, seeking how these women organize themselves, establishing ties and networks, to produce and create their own scenes and how this movement also reflects a greater diversification of the stand-up consumer audience. I explore the themes of women's narratives in stand-up comedy and argue for how they are motivated by their “annoyances”. Finally, I argued that, with the success of the performance, there is an exercise of power and transit of status by the comedians, who find in stand-up comedy a comedy model that allows them to control the comic narrative of that time and stage space without taking on other characters.

    Desenvolvimento de novas tecnologias baseadas em materiais biocidas

    The worldwide outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) and other emerging microbial infections have attracted particular interest in the design and development of new biocidal agents with a broad spectrum of activity. Since then, efficient strategies need to be implemented for the rapid diagnosis, prevention, control and treatment of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, its variants, and other opportunistic pathogens. In the current scenario of SARS-CoV-2 infections, the technological challenge lies in the development of economically viable biocidal systems, reusable and capable of inactivating opportunistic pathogens, thus reducing the risk of infection and transmission. In this sense, Ag-based materials used in small quantities can become attractive for the development of new biocidal technologies. α-Ag2WO4, which already shows biocidal activity, when modified by electrons or femtosecond laser increases its biocidal activity up to 32x, against resistant bacteria (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) and fungi (Candida albicans) due to the generated metal-semiconductor interface (Ag/α-Ag2WO4). In addition, this modification makes this interface selective for combating bladder cancer cells (MB49), versus healthy cells (BALB/3T3), using model mouse cells. Ag/SiO2 immobilized on ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) was another studied interface which showed 99.99% inhibition of bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli) and fungi (Candida albicans), besides eliminating in just 2 minutes over 99% of SARS-CoV-2 virus replicates. In this way, safe biocidal technologies can be obtained using silver-based metal-semiconductor interfaces, which can be applied to the design of personal protective equipment (PPE), packaging, fabrics, hygienic implements such as implants and prostheses, and other devices economically feasible to combat the increase in pandemics and fatal risks associated with various pathogens.
