Studies in Paleoparasitology are still scarce worldwide. Interdisciplinary, they can use techniques from different areas of knowledge, such as Paleontology, Archeology, Medicine, Epidemiology, Molecular Biology, Evolutionary Biology and Ecology. The information obtained in paleoparasitological studies concerns not only the organisms and parasitic diseases, but also can provide a lot of information about the paleoenvironment and about the paleoecological relationships involved in the interactions. In this work, different materials from the paleontological collection of the Laboratório de Paleoecologia e Paleoicnologia (LPP), of the Universidade Federal de São Carlos, in São Carlos-SP were analyzed. Such materials were previously collected in other Undergraduate and Postgraduate research at the LPP and taken up again in the present Doctorate because they present some type of evidence of endoparasitism or ectoparasitism. The materials analyzed were coprolites of different vertebrates, from the Northeast region of Brazil, from the archaeological and paleontological site Lagoa Uri de Cima, located in the region of Salgueiro, Pernambuco, collected in a partnership with the Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (Fiocruz do Rio de Janeiro). Dating back to the Pleistocene and Holocene, these materials have not confirmed evidence of parasites. However, nematode larvae, remains of plant (such as pollen grains, starch and phytoliths) and other types of diet were found through macroscopic observation of the diet of the animals, optical microscopy and analysis by computerized microtomography. Another material analyzed was 1300 osteoderms from three individuals of Holmesina Cryptae (Xenarthra, Cingulata, Pampatheriidae), deposited in the LPP collection. This material was obtained after two expeditions, carried out in 2012 and 2014, at Gruta da Lapinha, in the municipality of Iramaia, Bahia. Osteoderms that had marks possibly related to parasitism were observed by optical and scanning electron microscopy. The marks were divided into three types: they could have been caused by fungal infection, being the first description of this type in fossilized osteoderms, by secondary infection, after an initial injury, or by the action of Siphonaptera (fleas), which, therefore, already found in this host at least 20,000 years ago. Finally, the fibula of a sauropod dinosaur from the Upper Cretaceous was also studied, collected in the Northwest of the state of São Paulo and deposited in that collection in 2006. It was recovered by postdoctoral and master researchers in 2017 and 2018, who performed histological analyzes using computed tomography, at the Escola de Medicina da USP and by scanning electron microscopy, at the Universidade do Estado de Campinas, and obtained the result of acute osteomyelitis. In addition, microfossils were found in the vascular channels of the animal, which led to an investigation using optical microscopy at theUniversidade Federal de São Carlos. As a result, about 70 microorganisms were observed preserved inside the vascular channels of the animal, which were described as a possible species of blood parasite, being the first record of parasites inside the bones of these animals. The results of these works and the resulting discussions have been or will be presented in scientific articles, but also in a book, in scientific dissemination events and in locations outside the Universities, with the aim of increasing dialogue and helping to strengthen the approximation between the academic and the external environment research institutes, involving society in general.

Motivated by the application of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in the teaching of Physics, we developed the scripts for three experimental activities in Thermology using technological tools to be applied to high school students. The proposed experiments, whose data acquisition is automated through the application of thermal sensors and a computer-assisted Arduino board, can compare the heat conduction of different metals, show both qualitatively and quantitatively the difference between water and sand specifications when these materials are heated or cooled simultaneously by the same heat source and determine a thermal property of the specific heat. It is expected that students recognize that different materials have differences in thermal conductivity and understand the importance of the specific heat of water and sand in the formation of sea breezes. The experimental activities of our work, which establish a relationship between the scientific concepts discussed in the classroom and observable phenomena in nature, have the potential to increase the involvement of students in quality and quantity, promoting changes in their beliefs about Physics.

Objective: To map the existing literature on active warming methods for intravenous solutions to prevent or treat hypothermia in perioperative patients. Method: To support this study, a Scoping Review was conducted according to the methodology proposed by Joanna Briggs Institute. The searches were performed between March and May 2021, period in which all publications were accessed. After applying the established inclusion criteria, 60 studies were identified for reading in full, and 15 answered the research question. For the extraction of data from the studies we used an instrument structured by the researchers themselves according to the recommendations of the Joanna Briggs Institute. Results: Among the 15 (100%) selected studies, all were in the form of articles and, regarding the area of publication, 12 (80.0%) were related to the medical field and its specializations and only 1 (6.7%) to the nursing field. Regarding the surgeries in which hypothermia control was performed, gastrointestinal surgeries 4 (26,67%) and elective cesarean sections were the most common 5 (33,33%); 1 (6.7%) study used the microwave as heating method, 13 (86,67%) showed that the purpose of using heated IV solution is to prevent hypothermia. Conclusion: The study evidenced that hospital fluid heaters is the most used method of active warming of IV solutions, that the context of use of warming IV solutions involves the prevention of hypothermia in the perioperative patient. This scope identified that the studies addressed hospital settings, specifically the surgical setting, which demonstrates the gap in knowledge production in other settings that provide care to patients at risk of hypothermia.

In this work we study the relations between the Bruce-Roberts number, $\mu_{BR}(f,X)$, the relative Bruce-Roberts, $\mu_{BR}^{-}(f,X)$, of a function germ $f\in\mathcal{O}_{n}$ over an ICIS, $(X,0)\subset (\C^{n},0)$, and the Milnor numbers, $\mu(f)$ and $\mu(f^{-1}(0)\cap X,0)$. When $(X,0)$ is an isolated hypersurface singularity we show that $$\mu_{BR}(f,X)=\mu(f)+\mu(f^{-1}(0)\cap X,0)+\mu(X,0)-\tau(X,0),$$ in which $\tau(X,0)$ is the Tjurina number, and that the logarithmic characteristic variety is Cohen-Macaulay, generalizing results of Oréfice-Okamoto's Thesis. When $(X,0)$ is an ICIS we show that $$\mu_{BR}^{-}(f,X)=\mu(f^{-1}(0)\cap X,0)+\mu(X,0)-\tau(X,0),$$ and that the relative logarithmic characteristic variety is Cohen-Macaulay, generalizing results of Bruce and Roberts (1988).

This work describes the itinerary of a student of the Medicine course at the Federal University of São Carlos from 2017 to 2023. It aims to demonstrate my vision on the stages experienced in the scope of my medical education. The narrative represents the Final Project, as foreseen in the Political Pedagogical Project, in the form of a critical-reflective memorial. Divided into cycles, it shows the path of a young Cape Verdean student, inserted in a singular pedagogical and social sphere, which is the medical course based on the active methodology PBL (Problem Based Learning) in the city of São Carlos, in the interior of São Paulo, Brazil. In this comment on the methodology that transformed my educational paradigm, PBL; I evoke memories of my arrival in Brazil and the importance of resilience to solve insecurities; I analyze the chronological moments of the course, called educational cycles, which are the milestones of the engagement, theoretical and practical deepening, maturity and successful use of the constructivist spiral for the construction of knowledge; I mention the period of electives, which are the periods legitimized to the student's will to engage in a new practical or theoretical activity of improvement or learning of more skills, an activity of great importance and symbol of a pioneering course.

The data used for the development of this work were obtained from previous research, in which samples of a super duplex stainless steel with ferritic matrix and dispersed austenite particles were deformed with torsion tests at temperatures from 900°C to 1200°C with strain rates ranging from 0.01 s-1 to 10 s-1. The results of these experiments were presented in the form of plastic flow curves with constant temperature and strain rate. The shapes of the curves depend on temperature and strain rate and vary with the volumetric fraction of austenite, since in two-phase materials the plastic flow is more complex than in single-phase materials. Data from this trial were used to build a spreadsheet with four columns. The first three columns contain the input attributes (temperature, strain rate and strain) and the fourth the resistance imposed by the material when deformed (stress). These data were submitted to two machine learning algorithms, one consisting of a shallow neural network (ANN) and the other of a neural network with an expert system (ANFIS). After the machine learning process, the plastic flow curves were reconstructed and compared with those obtained experimentally. Curves were predicted under conditions not measured experimentally and the results obtained are discussed. The ability of both algorithms to reconstruct the plastic flow curves of super duplex stainless steel was associated with changes in the shape of the flow curves and microstructure evolution.

Antonieta Dias de Moraes name is not very well remember in the historiography of the Brazilian juvenile literature. She, as a writer and translator, received the titles of “communist poetess” and “Brazilian ambassador of the juvenile literature abroad” from the Brazilian national media in different times. She published more than 50 books among her own copyright work and translations – such as translations of the Guatemalan Miguel Asturias, Nobel Prize in Literature in 1967 – as well as acted and contributed in the debates concerning culture and publishing market, awarded and regarded as a juvenile publishing market success abroad. The “deafening silence” concerning her works raise questions regarding the reasons that derailed her name in the Brazilian national literature scene. The present research aims to add on the efforts undertaken by Antonieta Dias de Moraes Fund (Fundo ADM) since 2011, whose archives are under the care of the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), the Santa Eudóxia Farm and the author’s heirs. By promoting the dialogue between Literature, Language Studies and Science, Technology and Society Studies (STS) reflections that arise from the author’s passive correspondence collection’s utterances are proposed, collection which comprises 17 unreleased letters comprehending Antonieta’s biggest production period (1950 till 1975) and are written in the core of the political transitions which immersed the country in the foul authoritarianism of the Military Dictatorship. The option for an interdisciplinary approach applied to STS aims to highlight the relation between the social and ideological factors bringing forth the meanings hidden in between the lines of the ideological constructed sayings in the corpus of the research. Therefore before us lay fragments of this notable writer comprised in the voices and visions of her friends such as Zélia Gattai, Jorge Amado, Vasconcelos Maia and Cecilia Meireles, her correspondents. The theme’s complexity required the review of the literature related to two discourse theories in which the processes and views of the research object are based: the French Discourse Analysis proposed by Michel Pêcheux and the heteroglossia theory by Mikhail Bakhtin as well as Brazilian literary studies in different hues. The present thesis aim to demonstrate that the discourses of the correspondents in the analysed letters accommodate the subject of Antonieta as a product of the live interaction of social forces. Through this process, the strict interdisciplinary relation with the language studies in the investigation of the development processes and STS focused pratices is highlighted. The knowledge about different fields, articulated between themselves, contributed to achieved result following a dynamic mural of Antonieta Dias de Moraes’ intellectual production, fulfilling the triple function of valorizing the protection of writers’ personal archives, systematizing information in a critical manner and spreading academical knowledge in accessible language. Despite the lack of attention for the author’s literary texts in this moment, we can assert that the passive correspondence collection creates a narrative for Antonieta and prompts us in the passionate mission of fulfilling the gaps in recreating her artistic life. We can also suggest that new studies are attained to continuously describe the documents contained in the ADM fund in order to review, update and prototype tools that add to the elaboration of public policies in science, technology and innovation between Sciences, simultaneous to the woman-written Brazilian literature memory rescue. Equally important is the study of Antonieta Dias de Moraes’ vast literary opus, more than ever diverse in gender and inspiring in her themes and values defending the Peace between the People.

This research sought to understand the redefinition of critical formation in Chemical Education through green investigative experimental practices. Therefore, the research was qualitative approach supported by the case study method of an undergraduate course in Chemistry at Federal Higher Education Institution (IES) located in São Paulo State. As a first step of the research, the criteria defined as “Formative Dimensions for Education in Green and Sustainable Chemistry” were proposed, which intended to present themselves as a qualitative assessment tool of experimental processes and their educational subsidies. The second stage allowed a reflection on the students' understanding of experimental practices. The third point involved the preparation of experimental proposals by the students, which walked to contemplate formative levels to adapt to a more responsible performance, with regard not only to the use of reagents and processes used, but also to the social aspects and environmental issues involved in the experiments. For the last part, the application of experimental practices enabled the design of a proposal for an “Experimental Formative Approach”, which aims to make laboratory practice a contribution to the critical formation of Chemistry teachers. In summary, analyzing the students' formative processes made it possible to observe how students think about experimental work. Finally, the research contributed to the improvement of two aspects of Chemical Education: to overcome simplistic points of view that compromise the understanding of the role of Experimentation and to build theoretical and methodological paths that enable a more critical formation for Sustainable Development.

Introduction: When living with a relative with HIV/AIDS, the family demonstrates particularities and singularities in its functioning, which is permeated by a system of beliefs, which have great force on its members and on family functioning, having important healing and suffering in the family. General objective: To describe facilitating and restrictive beliefs about the treatment of adult patients with HIV/AIDS, from the perspective of family members who live with the problem. Methodology: Qualitative research with three family members, through semi-structured interviews in remote format, with thematic content analysis of data. Results: The beliefs of the family members in this study revealed that living with AIDS or being positive for the virus becomes normal when it involves maintaining the daily routine and quality of life, believing in the longevity of life in the face of therapeutic alternatives, having affective attitudes and caring not to contaminate the people around, demystify preconceptions and prejudices, which can be understood as beliefs that facilitate treatment and adherence. However, during the discovery of the diagnosis of the disease, negative and positive feelings and emotions permeated, which could be recognized as both restrictive and facilitating beliefs, depending on the family's behavior in the face of the discovery and the therapeutic process. Final considerations: Both restrictive and facilitating beliefs permeated the period of discovery of the diagnosis, but the family members sought to face and overcome such adversities, trying to break the restrictive beliefs, through religious and spiritual beliefs, valuing the treatment and promoting family cohesion.

This work aims to analyze the knowledge of nursing students about the interpretation and performance of the electrocardiogram before and after the online training. This is an exploratory, descriptive, cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach. Carried out in four stages: 1) Application of four pre-theoretical training questionnaires; 2) Construction of an educational material on electrocardiogram interpretation and heart rhythm recognition; 3) Online theoretical training; 4) Application of the post-training questionnaire to assess its effectiveness, aiming to assess changes in theoretical and cognitive knowledge about ECG interpretation and heart rhythm recognition in different contexts of health services. We sought to summarize and organize the data obtained through descriptive statistical analysis, carried out by the Microsoft Excel® Software. The sample consisted of 28 (100%) nursing students, on the theoretical guidance on ECG received during graduation, 10 (35.7%) of the students received adequate guidance and, after theoretical training, 23 (82.1% ) students considered the guidelines adequate; 7 (25%) of the students knew how to differentiate an ECG within the normality of the exam with alterations, which increased to 22 (78.6%) after training. Regarding the competence to differentiate an ECG within the normality of exam with alterations, 7 (25%) of the students knew how to differentiate, which increased to 22 (78.6%) after training. As for the interpretation of the ECG and recognition of heart rhythms, there was a significant increase in the percentage of correct answers, and the pre-training questionnaire ranged from 3 (10.7%) to 20 (71.4%), while in the post-training period it ranged from a minimum from 17 (60.7%) correct answers to 28 (100%). There was a clear improvement in the performance of students before and after theoretical training. It was concluded that the performance, analysis and interpretation of the ECG is essential for the training to be qualified and for these students to become qualified health professionals and avoid possible complications that can be identified in time to carry out an immediate intervention as long as there is knowledge and decision making. The importance of expanding training in this area is also highlighted so that nursing students can be qualified as professionals.

The present work aims to analyze and interpret the experiences of black children's characters from contemporary children's literature books present in the collection of Literatura Infantil Negra e a Primeira Infância project. Therefore, I mobilized the following concepts from Literary Theory and the field of Children's Literature: literature, central character, space, time, children's literature and narrative. In addition, I recovered some of the debates present in studies on ethnic-racial relations in children's and youth literature in Brazil. As a methodological procedure, I started with a bibliographical research consisting of four forms of reading: exploratory reading and selective reading of the collection, analytical reading and interpretive reading of selected books. In the third and fourth reading, the following books were analyzed and interpreted: Cheirinho de neném (SANTANA, 2011), Quero ser do meu tamanho (SÁTIRO, 2011), Alice vê (ROSA, 2013), O cabelo de Cora (CÂMARA, 2013), O mundo no black power de Tayó (OLIVEIRA, 2013), Iori descobre o sol – O sol descobre Iori (FAUSTINO, 2015), Amoras (EMICIDA, 2018), Bucala: a pequena princesa do quilombo de Cabula (NUNES, 2019), E foi assim que eu e a escuridão ficamos amigas (EMICIDA, 2020) e Meia Curta (FÉLIX, 2020). The central experiences of the black children's characters found were: fear of the dark, change of preference; becoming a big sister, body perception, racial discrimination and blackness. These experiences are both objective and subjective, taking place in a spatial (home, school, street, park and nature) and temporal (chronos, kairós and aión) multiplicity; and involve interactions with family members, other child characters, nature beings, mythical and imaginary beings. In the end, it was possible to conclude that these experiences showed two patterns. The first involves a set of experiences that can be experienced by children's characters from different ethnic-racial backgrounds, for example, fear of the dark. The second pattern is related to experiences linked to racism, which directly affected black children's characters, and to blackness, as a confrontation with this form of violence with the appreciation of black aesthetics and culture.

The present dissertation has as its object the meanings that the practice of extrication expressed in the state field of conflict management during the Covid-19 pandemic and in response to the Unconstitutional State of Things in prisons. The objective is to understand if, in a scenario of health crisis, high rates of contagion and deaths from the coronavirus, the strategies adopted by rural actors tended to favor extrication as a practice of promoting the right to health and life, or if there was a strengthening of punitive and anti-human rights narratives. To this end, interviews, secondary data collection and analysis of documents prepared on pandemic and prison were carried out. The research findings, in general, express that there is a resurgence of punitive, authoritarian practices that violate the rights and guarantees of people deprived of their liberty.

Several harmful effects to the environment can be attributed to indiscriminate use and disposal of non-renewable and non-biodegradable products. Chitosan is a biopolymer with excellent film forming properties that has been studied on seed coating. The objective was to evaluate the effect of chitosan coating formulations (0.6-3.4% w/v chitosan and 0-0.6 g glycerol/g chitosan) on the quality of corn seeds (Zea mays L.) through the analysis of physical aspects (visual analysis of the coating, water content and 1,000-seed mass), physiological potential (germination test, germination speed index, seedling length, cold test, seedling emergence, seedling emergence speed index, seedling height and root and shoot dry matter mass) and health quality (Blotter test). Two coating methods were also tested (1 – drying the seeds immersed in the polymeric solution and 2 – drying after immersion and immediate withdraw of the seeds from the solution). In application method 1 there was no germination, therefore the results referred to application method 2. Chitosan coating solution associated with glycerol did not interfere in water content, 1,000-seed mass, germination and emergence percentage, cold test and root dry matter mass, but higher concentrations can reduce germination speed index, emergence speed index, seedling height and shoot dry matter mass. Coating in the selected condition (chitosan 2% and 0.3 g glycerol/g chitosan) reduced the occurrence of Penicillium spp. The potential use of chitosan as a coating on corn seeds was confirmed considering the physical aspects and without compromising the physiological potential.

Aging is the natural path of life for all human beings. The accelerated global demographic transition requires attention to the new challenges that present themselves, especially in relation to expanding and improving health care for the elderly. During the COVID-19 pandemic, many eyes turned to these individuals, identified as a risk group for the disease. Even so, there is little space in our society to discuss the best way to assist this population, taking into account what the aging subjects themselves think. In this sense, the objective of this study was to investigate the meanings that the aging process has for those who age, as well as to analyze the way in which art can influence the construction of these meanings in the pandemic context. For this, narrative research was used to collect detailed life stories of two elderly participants who practiced some type of artistic activity. The treatment of the data was made from the analysis of the speech, allied to the psychoanalytic method. Based on the readings of the full transcripts of the interviews, it was possible to elaborate thematic categorizations, including the categories: a) old age; b) the COVID-19 pandemic and c) art. The importance of artistic activity as a form of expression and leisure in the lives of the elderly was confirmed, especially during the pandemic moment.

The Software's Operational Profile (SOP) is a representation of how users use the software in practice, thus identifying the parts of the software most operated by the users. Since the reliability of a software depends on the context in which it is used, the SOP is employed in software reliability engineering. However, there are signs of a possible mismatch between the software's tested parts and the SOP. The objective of this work is to investigate the possible mismatch between the tested parts of the software and the SOP and how data extracted from the SOP can provide contributions to other test strategies not related to reliability testing. We performed experimental studies to obtain data that would allow achieving and materializing the objectives through publications throughout the doctoral period, providing the contributions of this research. The main contributions of this research are: i) Evidence that proves that there are significant variations in the way users operate the software even when performing the same operation that it is possible that there is a mismatch between the tested parts of the software and the SOP, and that failures can occur in parts of the SOP not tested; ii) Evidence that a test strategy based on merging an existing test suite with a test suite generated by an automated test data tool can decrease the mismatch but does not prevent this mismatch; iii) Presentation of the "Test Profile" concept; iv) Design and implementation of OPDaTe tool whose purpose is to contribute to reducing the mismatch between the SOP and the test profile through the automatic generation of executable test cases with test data obtained dynamically from the SOP; v) Conducting a systematic mapping and a systematic review of the literature that investigates the use of the SOP. The results obtained by the research show the relevance of SOP to software testing, making it possible to align testing strategies with the operational use of the software and, thus, be in line with the users' needs.

Introduction: Occupations constitute a foundation of human existence, being represented by everyday activities carried out individually or in community and that promote meaning to life. As the child develops and the engagement continually expands, it results in a more satisfying life according to each age group. However, the impairment of skills in processing sensory information can impact the performance of children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Objective: this study aimed to investigate the relationship between sensory processing and the engagement of autistic children from 2 to 5 years old in their routines. Method: it is a quantitative, descriptive and correlational methodology. Data collection took place through an online questionnaire, with the observation of the child's behavior from the point of view of their caregivers. Results: a total of 56 respondent family members were obtained, 30 of which were autistic children and 26 were typically developing (TD). Two instruments for the assessment of child development were applied, the SPM-P (Sensory Processing Measure – Preschool – Home Form) and the CEQ (Children's Engagement Questionnaire), and the data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics for verification of correlations. It was identified in the results that autistic children showed significant differences in relation to children with TD, in an inversely proportional correlation for the two variables, with the greater the difficulties in sensory processing, the lower the levels of engagement. It was also observed that from the decomposition of the influences of the child's demographic variables on engagement, children who were attended public or private schools showed greater engagement compared to children who did not attend school, and that engagement increases as age increases, regardless of the diagnosis for ASD or TD. Conclusion: it is suggested that future studies can include different age groups in order to increase the understanding of the needs of autistic people, based on the analysis of the impact of variables related to sensory processing and engagement in their daily lives. It is observed then that the use of strategies that increase the child's engagement in their routines is essential to promote greater learning, with the acquisition of new skills for participation in daily life.
