Services are traditionally considered intangible products, that is, they can be marketed only when incorporated into products from agriculture and/or manufacturing in the form of inputs. However, over the years, it appears that services are increasingly important in the production of economic growth since tertiary activities enable and intensify the increase in interaction between sectors. Considering that exports are a determining factor in national competitiveness and, also, that services are closely linked to changes in the prices of industrial products, this study seeks to investigate the participation of services in the added value of exports through a multisectoral approach, using the input-output analysis methodology, based on data from Brazil in the year 2018. The results point to the Maintenance and Repair Services, Other Service Activities and Transport sectors as key sectors of the services group, highlighting them as important suppliers and demanders for the economy and, also, that the participation of services in exports is substantially higher in added value when compared to their share in the gross value of exports. In this way, it is worth highlighting the importance of understanding the value-added potential of services, because of their relevance in the formulation of public policies aimed at production and trade, which directly and indirectly affect a country's competitiveness.

Aware of the energy potential of municipal solid waste (MSW), the challenges envisaged for cleaner technologies and the desire that Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to play the role of developing professionals and technologies to solve the problems demanded by society, in this paper aimed to understand the issue about sustainability and development sustainable, in addition to identifying the actions in sustainable developed by federal public HEIs, in the compartments: water, energy and waste. Thus, to understand the debate around the environmental issue, a bibliographic survey was carried out and, in order to understand how universities have acted in favor of sustainability, federal public HEIs were selected, totaling 69 institutions, so that the actions carried out could be investigated in the selected compartment. In this way, a consultation was carried out on the websites of the institutions, using some keywords. Then, in dialogue with the waste compartment, studies related to three public universities, two State Universities and one federal, which are: UEL, USP campus São Paulo capital and UFPE - were selected for standing out in the discussion about the use of waste produced on campus for the biogas generation. Thus, 169 actions in the waste compartment, 111 actions in the energy compartment and 83 actions were listed in the compartment water, were mapped in the 69 institutions surveyed. The five most recurrent actions were: selective waste collection and solid waste (54%), water saving and water control (43%), solar power plant (42%), LED lamp installation (39%) and chemical waste management (39%). It was noticed that 4% of the activities carried out in the waste compartment refer to biogas plants. Finally, studies carried out at UEL and USP showed that preliminary tests were carried out on a bench scale and/or pilot plant in order to assess technical-operational situations for in situ bioenergy generation, that is, for internal energy use generated in the respective universities, estimating the forecast of the potential of biogas and power generation. The UFPE study demonstrated the bioenergy plant implemented on the campus and sought to present the operational units aimed at reproduction in small and medium-sized municipalities. Therefore, it was possible to map the actions that have been carried out in university context, despite the difficulties that these institutions face to consolidate them. Knowing the successful proposals enables continuous improvement, as well as helps and encourages the private sector, society and those HEIs that still do not have consolidated environmental policies, such as UFSCar.

In this study, firstly General Relativity, defined by Albert Einstein in 1915, is introduced. In the first chapter, the concepts of geodesics and the Christoffel symbols are demonstrated, followed by a brief presentation of symmetries and conservation laws, those described by Killing vectors. After this, the Einstein equations are introduced, and how these are composed of curvature and the energy-momentum tensors. The following chapter presents the properties of a black hole described by the Schwarzschild metric, the trajectories followed by the geodesics in this metric, and the corresponding conformal diagrams. In addition, the ISCO (Innermost Stable Circular Orbit) parameters and a brief explanation of the metric singularities are given. The properties of rotating black holes are presented in Chapter 4. First, an introduction to the Kerr metric is made, followed by the exhibition of the two event horizons present in this metric and the singularities they possess. The understanding of such horizons can be acquired from three cases, which are also shown in this section. Next, the ergosphere and its definition are presented, as well as how particles behave at the ergosphere’s limit. In this chapter the ISCO parameters are also evidenced, now, however, for a rotating black hole. There is also a brief description of the idea behind the Penrose process, which stands for the theoretical energy extraction from a rotating black hole from a particle’s decay.

Alzheimer’s disease (AD), is a neurodegenerative disease that destroys brain cells, causing losses in cognitive functions and the ability to perform simple tasks daily. AD has a progressive course and its prevalence increases exponentially with age, being 5% in the population with over 60 years and 20% in those over 80 years of age. In AD, generally, the hippocampi, which are brain structures linked to the formation of memories, are the first structures to be damaged. Posteriorly, other parts of the brain are also affected and begin to present atrophy as more neurons die. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been used clinically with great success in the diagnosis and monitoring of AD as it allows the evaluation of structural changes in regions of the brain related to cognitive functions. The atrophy of the hippocampi, and the consequent reduction in their volumes, have been recognized as an early characteristic of the degenerative process and in DA and it appears to correspond with the onset of memory decline. The main objective of this work was the development of a system that allows the segmentation and quantification of white matter, gray matter, and cerebrospinal fluid present in the hippocampal regions. It is believed that from the quantification of tissues it is possible to evaluate the stage of degeneration of the hippocampal regions and, with that, aid in the diagnosis and follow-up of AD. This work had the objective of developing and providing access through a web platform to a computational technique based on the Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) and the expectation-maximization algorithm (EM) that performs automatic segmentation tissue in MR images and to evaluate its results quantitatively by comparing the results obtained by the technique developed with those obtained by the state-of-the-art software FMRIB’s Automated Segmentation Tool (FAST), by using metrics like Jaccard, Dice, False Positives and False Negatives.

Detecção e análise de assimetrias estruturais hipocampais em imagens de ressonância magnética aplicadas ao auxílio ao diagnóstico do Alzheimer

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the main cause of dementia and affects more than 30% of population older than 85 years old. As the elderly population increases, AD has become a relevant public health problem. However, the majority of AD cases are diagnosed at a late stage, even when the patient has already shown severe symptoms of the disease. In this scenario, the importance of the use and development of automated computational tools that aid in the diagnosis of AD is essential. Thus, an automatic hippocampal structural asymmetry detection and analysis technique is proposed in this work. Such technique extracts statistical measurements from hippocampal regions in magnetic resonance (MR) images filtered using a bank of tridimensional (3D) log-Gabor filters, followed by image classification as cognitively normal (CN) and AD through a Support Vector Machine. The bests results achieved represent the average values of AUC, accuracy and F1 being 0.88, 80.43% e 0.75, respectively. Aiming to make the technique available for usage, a microservices-based web application was also proposed, allowing users to interact with the system and request for a MR image to be processed.

Modelos para a estimativa da resistência característica à tração inclinada de madeiras folhosas

Due to the anisotropic characteristics, wood has distinct mechanical performance when requested in longitudinal, radial and tangential directions. In structural design, the longitudinal direction is considered to be parallel to the grains (0°) and the radial and tangential directions are considered normal to the grains (90°). In Brazil, the Brazilian Standard NBR 7190 (ABNT, 1997) establishes the test methods for obtaining strength properties in the parallel (f0) and normal (f90) directions to the wood grains. For this, formulations from the theory of mechanics of materials, developed for isotropic materials, are used. The estimation of strength properties in intermediate directions (off-axis strengths, 0° < θ < 90°) can be performed using empirical models or failure criteria (mathematical models) developed for anisotropic materials. These criteria, such as the Tsai and Wu criterion (1971) and the Tsai-Hill criterion (Azzi and Tsai, 1965), because they are little known by the technical community, are rarely used to estimate wood failure. On the other hand, the empirical models, adjusted according to the exponent n of the trigonometric terms, have been developed and incorporated in several standards documents. Among such, NBR 7190 (ABNT, 1997) recommends the use of Hankinson's empirical model (1921) to estimate the normal off-axis stresses (θ > 6°). Because it was developed through compression tests on softwoods, Hankinson's (1921) model, in its original form (exponent n = 2), may not be a good estimator of the characteristic off-axis tensile strength (ftθ,k) of hardwoods. In this context, this research has the main objective of determining, for hardwoods, models that lead to good estimates of the ftθ,k. Aiming at comprehensive results, 5 species, distributed in the hardwood resistance classes and 6 grain inclination angles (0°, 10°, 20°, 45°, 60° and 90°) were adopted. The statistical analysis showed that the Hankinson model (1921), with an exponent n equal to 2, does not lead to accurate estimates of ftθ,k. With the exception of linear, all regression models tested were significant and with good fits (coefficient of determination - R2 > 96%). Compared to empirical models and failure criteria present in the literature, the model obtained in this research proved to be, for the grouping of species, the most accurate in estimating ftθ,k. Furthermore, the use of the proposed model requires only the knowledge of the characteristic tensile strength parallel to the grains; therefore, this model is easy use in the development of wooden structures projects.

(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2022-04-13) Garcia, Vinícius José de Oliveira; Duval, Henrique Carmona; https://lattes.cnpq.br/1127516712972199; https://lattes.cnpq.br/1472247575408477
The agroforestry systems have been presenting a great interest of research around Brazil and the world as an option of agricultural form contrary to monoculture and which prioritize the conservation of biodiversity and soil, besides presenting productive power and social and ecological development. However, there are some hurdles that hinder the broad adhering to this model, especially in the different contexts of family farming, mainly due to the absence of public funding policies and specialised technical assistance. Consequently, the management of these systems becomes a complex task for farmers , since it is a multidimensional system that correlates the social, economic and environmental spheres simultaneously. The present work uses participatory characterization altogether with indicators with two family farmers who own agroforestry systems implemented in the years 2018 and 2019 as part of a university extension project linked to the Lagoa do Sino Campus of UFSCar, in the counties of Itabera–SP and Buri–SP. An assessment of multidimensionality was carried out in order to investigate the internal and external benefits and barriers to the system, based on literature and farmers reports, systematizing knowledge for a better management and appropriation of this sustainable agriculture system.

As urban centers and industry develop, global concern about climate issues associated with the high waste generation and use of non-renewable energy sources is also increasing. Brazil, as many other countries, still maintains unsustainable systems for the management and disposal of municipal solid waste (MSW), such as open dumps. Thus, it is extremely important to apply new improvements to overcome this scenario. Waste to energy processes have this purpose, once waste conversion to new energy resources become possible. In this process, the anaerobic digestion of organic matter gives bioenergy as product promoting the waste valorization. This work aims to perform a survey of scientific publications on the Web of Science platform with innovative technologies and large-scale consolidated process for biogas production through anaerobic digestion of MSW, in order to present sustainable destinations for MSW in Brazil. For this survey the 2020 year stood out with the largest number of publications, with China being the country that published the most. Articles publications correspond to 75% of the results, where environmental sciences have most publications. A more detailed analysis of some selected articles shows that 45% of them had a case study to present an implemented process and its main characteristics. Most of these selected studies (34%) operated large volumes of waste and were classified as large-scale. The plant with the highest production capacity produces 19525 m³/day of biogas in biodigesters that together add up to 2400 m³. Also, for these large-scale studies the main steps involved in the processes were identified, which consists of RSU reception, pre-treatment, anaerobic digestion, downstream and bioproduct destination.

Faced with a scenario of budget constraint faced by Public Health in Brazil, it is essential to understand how the resources invested by the State are being spent by public entities, since the population, due to the payment of a high tax burden to the government, has been demanding more and more efficiency in the services provided to the community. The objective of this study is to analyze the extent to which SUS funding impacts the financial management of the University Hospital of the Federal University of São Carlos (HU-UFSCar), currently managed by the Empresa Brasileira de Serviços Hospitalares (EBSERH). For this, financial information was collected on the entity's revenues and billing in the years 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020. The values of the procedures performed by the hospital in this period referenced by the SUS Table were converted into values charged by the market based on the Classification Brazilian Hierarchy of Medical Procedures (CBHPM). Comparing the values obtained with the costs for carrying out the procedures, it was found that, if the services were performed by the private sector, the population would pay a higher amount for the same services that are offered by the HU-UFSCar in the public regime. Efficiency in the use of resources by the entity was also observed, since the value produced is higher than the value used to perform the services. Finally, it was not possible to observe the effects of underfunding, existing in Brazilian health, on the financial management of the HU-UFSCar because, with the installed capacity, the Hospital performed a large number of outpatient procedures and hospitalizations in the studied period at a cost lower than the values practiced by the market.

With the increase in demand from hospital emergency sectors, the employment of technological solutions becomes essential. Currently, one of the biggest problems faced is the one of overcrowding, in which there are not enough beds. One of the reasons is the low effectiveness of the diagnoses, so that hospitalization periods are very long. inside that In this context, an intelligent vital signs monitoring system can reinvigorate the routine hospital and provide more complete information to medical teams. this system allows nursing to constantly control different aspects of each patient. In addition to keeping control of the clinical picture, this still delivers an efficient way of decide the routines of doctors' visits. In this project version, the system also counts with the patient's image, which can be sent to the center remotely and wirelessly. This work intends, first, to demonstrate the clinical importance of each sign monitored in a patient. Subsequently, he also aims to explain the physical principle operation of each sensor, how the integration between them is made and demonstrate the result of simulations for reliability and strength. In these tests, all sensors presented excellent results, and there is still only one open accuracy comparison with current methods, including acceptance by practitioners. These tests, on the other hand, must be performed in a hospital environment within some months.

The disposition of the organic fraction of solid waste in sanitary landfills, are responsible for environmental impacts, among them the reduction of its useful life and the generation of Greenhouse Effect Gases, besides preventing the revaluation of the waste and its economic capacity. Due to the guidelines drawn up by the National Solid Waste Policy and its environmentally appropriate destination, it is evident the relevance of the implementation of the revaluation of organic waste. Thus, this work aimed to carry out an evaluation of biogas production from organic waste from the University Restaurant at UFSCar Campus Lagoa do Sino. To achieve the main objective, a review of the literature, the technical, environmental and economic feasibility of the implementation of biodigesters was performed. Thus, the generation of 0.20 m³ day-1 of biogas was obtained, from 183.68 kg.day-1 of leftover meals. This enabled the design of an anaerobic reactor, Canadian model, with a useful volume of 4.09 m3 and initial investment of R$ 8,631.81, obtaining a return time of 1.02 years, considering the scenario of substitution of Liquefied Petroleum Gas by CH4, contributing to the feasibility of its implementation and helping to decarbonize the Lagoa do Sino Campus.

Science teaching in Brazil is in an unfavorable situation in relation to what would be ideal, mainly in the remote format that the pandemic has subjected all those involved in the educational process in the years 2020 and 2021. It is understood that this lag emphasized in remote teaching is a baggage of the lack of investment in education by the government, due to the low assimilation between the scientific content and the student, and by the absence of teaching methodologies that propitiate the insertion of young people in the scientific environment. For this reason, a teaching by investigation format, as the one proposed in this work, brings a possibility that reduces this problem by obtaining scientific knowledge through intellectual freedom of young people and for the investigations that they themselves raise based on a problem situation presented by the teacher. The present work sought to observe the possibilities and challenges of the application of teaching by investigation in the remote modality through the comparison of the parallel development of the activity in the face-to-face mode with students from the same classes of a public school in the city of Limeira/SP, where the author worked as a science teacher. As a result of this experience, two relevant points were raised. The first was that, regardless of whether applied in the remote or face-to-face model, teaching by investigation entourages more student participation and allows for more effective learning. And the second observation is that the remote model significantly reduces, almost eliminating, the student-teacher and student-student interaction, failing in the debates and joint construction of knowledge that the face-to-face model propitiates. This way, some adjustments can be made in order to allow a more expansive interaction, consequently increasing the quality of the methodology for the remote model of teaching, either soon with the technological evolution or, even, another chaos that requires this school isolation.

Since 2015, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have had a major impact on government agendas, as well as on business, in the analysis and measurement of sustainable development in countries and cities. Therefore, it is a tool that can provide guidelines to promote sustainability to buildings. In civil construction, monitoring compliance with the SDGs is a little explored topic, however, this monitoring reports are essential to identify opportunities for improvement and innovation. In this research, a field study will be carried out with the construction companies of São Carlos/SP - Brasil, and will examine the compliance with the SDGs and the contribution of civil construction to the sustainability of the cities. For achieve this goal, the methodology adopted consists mainly on two strategies: the development and application of a survey about compliance with the SDGs in construction companies; and the elaboration of a practical guide, comprising a framework of sustainable actions to stimulate the sustainable development in civil construction. Then, the results obtained were interpreted graphically. Therefore, despite a low adhesion to the methodology adopted in this study, it was possible to verify a partial compliance of the SDGs for civil construction in São Carlos. These data point to SDG 12 as the most performed while the SDG 7 was the lower, as well as it was observed that the SDG 10 and 16 weren’t widely accepted as relevant topics to civil construction sustainable development. Finally, through the practical guide to sustainable actions for progress in compliance with the SDGs, there were identified 107 sustainable practices to the civil construction.

This course conclusion work aims to seek answers to the following research problem: to understand how the development of moral values in children takes place in the perspective of Piaget and Vygotsky. Bibliographic research was used, using writings of these two authors, as well as those of some commentators. The internal articulation of the text begins with the exposition of the concepts of value and morality, based on a historical-philosophical reflection. Then, the theoretical foundation based on Piaget and Vygotsky is presented. Finally, a comparative analysis is made between the Piagetian perspective, based on the cognitive theory based on genetic epistemology, and the cultural-historical theory formulated by Vygotsky, highlighting similarities and differences between them. The theoretical reflection enabled the understanding of moral values as human constructions, which are seen by Piaget within relations of coercion and cooperation in the course of child development, linked to the phase of heteronomy and autonomy, and by Vigotski considered as cultural productions, which permeate the social relationships that direct human action.

Solar flares are phenomena that happen on the Sun, which consist of a sudden release of a large amount of energy. This large release of solar radiation causes electromagnetic disturbances on the earth, affecting communications, interfering with radio frequencies and power grid transmissions. A forecasting method can detect in advance or mitigate such consequences. This project sought to improve the Ensemble of Classifiers for Imbalanced Datasets (ECID) method, making it more efficient and flexible. For this, a study of the theoretical method and its implementation was carried out, identifying points of improvement. The method was improved by proposing a new architecture, refactoring and documenting the code base. Testing with the new version resulted in a 22% reduction in execution time and less code complexity, measured from the cyclomatic complexity before and after the changes. In this work, an API was created that provides the results of the method, in addition to the development of a proof of concept for the use of the API developed in the form of the ECID lite web application, which allows, in a simple way, the analysis of a set of forecasts of the ECID

The Zika virus (ZIKV) is an mosquito-borne transmitted by the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which became a public health problem during the 2015/2016 outbreak in the Americas and mainly in Brazil, where it was related to cases of microcephaly and Guillan syndrome. -Barré. The potential of the virus to re-emerge causing new epidemics is always latent, therefore, the search for effective treatments against viral infection becomes necessary, since there are still no vaccines or drugs available. The identification of antiviral agents quickly and efficiently depends on cellular/biochemical assays that can be performed in a high-throughput screening (HTS) mode. In this work, we used two HTS screening strategies to identify anti-ZIKV molecules. The first strategy was phenotypic, using cell assays based on replicon, a system in which the viral genome is modified by replacing structural proteins with a reporter gene. Thereby, there is no formation of new infecting viral particles, but the replication complex is kept fully functional. This approach was used to evaluate 560 molecules, among which 4 were able to inhibit the replication of the replicon, with Remdesivir being the most promising due to its high selectivity index (IS = 88.6). The second strategy was target-based and consisted of using the recombinant ZIKV protease, NS2B-NS3, expressed in bacteria and purified in 3 steps, to evaluate 4576 molecules in enzyme activity assays, which allowed the identification of 7 compounds capable of inhibit the enzyme by more than 80%. Both strategies proved to be very efficient for the proposed objectives, contributing to the advance in the search for potential anti-ZIKV agents. The next steps will be the confirmation of the inhibition of viral replication by the 4 compounds resulting from the phenotypic screening by quantification of the RNA replicon, using qRT-PCR, and also through viral infection assays through collaboration with Prof. Ana Carolina Jardim from the Federal University of Uberlandia (UFU). Regarding the compounds identified in the enzymatic assays, these will be validated in the cellular model expressing the ZIKV replicon.
