Urban parks serve as spaces for the community, promoting both physical and mental well-being through their natural elements, which provide ecological characteristics and foster interactions between fauna and flora. Consequently, it is essential to maintain these areas and provide adequate maintenance to ensure the continued provision of these services to the population. Floristic surveys are a methodology of understanding the flora of these locations and providing theoretical support for their conservation. By identifying the vegetation that constitutes the park’s flora, it becomes feasible to develop strategies for the recovery and enrichment of biodiversity and the conservation of the ecosystem. The importance of studying herbaceous plants is multiple, as they serve as food sources, protect the soil from erosion, contribute to forage plants (such as Poaceae and Fabaceae), provide shade during forest regeneration, and contain substances of interest to the pharmaceutical industry. Additionally, they exhibit resilience in disturbed environments. In light of these considerations, this study aimed to contribute to research on herbaceous vegetation in the "Gilberto Rüegger Ometto" Ecological and Cultural Park in the municipality of Araras. The methodology employed for the floristic survey involved sampling vegetation by means of plots, with plots selected based on the presence of reproductive botanical material, followed by herbarium preparation and identification of the specimens. A total of fifteen botanical families were identified among the 36 collected plants, with a predominance of invasive species, one of which is used for medicinal purposes. The study highlighted the need for greater taxonomic efforts regarding herbaceous plants.

Experimental aesthetics encompasses diverse lines of research that primarily explore how structural characteristics of music influence aesthetic experience. The Stimulus Equivalence Paradigm offers tools to address a distinct research problem that diverges from the traditional focus in this field: is it possible for aesthetic stimuli to acquire meaning through conventions established by a verbal community, based on arbitrary criteria? To begin investigating this question, we conducted two experiments in which we programmed equivalence relations between facial expressions and musical excerpts, without presenting these stimuli simultaneously or contiguously. We evaluated the influence of relational training on the valence attributed to the music, using a Semantic Differential. In Experiment 1, 12 out of 16 participants met the criterion for the equivalence test. For these participants, we observed a reduction in the valence attributed to musical excerpts equivalent to sad facial expressions (statistically significant) and an increase in the valence of excerpts associated with happy facial expressions (although this difference was not statistically significant). Replicating the results of the first experiment, in Experiment 2, equivalences were established for 9 out of 20 participants. We noted a statistically significant decrease in the valence of the musical excerpt equivalent to expressions of disgust, and a marginally significant increase in the valence of the musical excerpt equivalent to happy facial expressions. The results indicate the occurrence of transfer of function between stimuli, supporting the initial hypothesis that musical stimuli can acquire meanings through the conventions of a verbal community.

Sugarcane production plays a significant role in both the national and international markets, as it is the raw material for important commodities. The average productivity is generally low in the country, despite the crop having a high productive potential. Foliar fertilization is a management practice that can contribute to increasing the productivity of sugarcane fields, as it allows for better exploration of the crop's productive potential. This study evaluated the productivity of a commercial sugarcane field after the application of foliar fertilizers containing macronutrients and micronutrients, with the following composition and concentration (g/L): N – 112.5; P2O5 – 44.4; K2O – 41.0; Mg – 0.7; B – 6.5; Co – 0.29; Cu – 5.7; Fe – 3.0; Mn – 4.0; Mo – 3.4; Zn – 18.2. Aerial spraying was performed over the entire area of a sugarcane field in the Ribeirão Preto region, where control areas were selected and covered with tarps to create control plots. A completely randomized design was used for 2 treatments (with and without fertilization), with 8 repetitions, totaling 16 plots in 2 different cropping cycles (plant cane and ratoon cane), resulting in 32 plots in total. The biometrics involved weighing sugarcane stalks from systematically selected areas within each plot, with and without treatment, calculating productivity in tons of stalks per hectare (TCH). The average values obtained were higher in the treated plots, however, statistically these values were not significant, indicating only a trend towards increased productivity.

This study aimed to understand the potential of afro-brazilian knowledge derived from african-based religion, specifically Candomblé, in the teaching of science and biology. Despite the twenty years of the Law n. 10.639/03, that mandates the teaching of Afro-Brazilian history and culture in schools, there are still few projects and initiatives that effectively implement it. However, many aspects of Afro-Brazilian culture remain to be explored in the educational sphere, such as Candomblé, a religion often attacked and stigmatized. Therefore, the main objective of this research was to identify potential traditional knowledge indicated by Candomblé practitioners, through thematic textual analysis of the interviewees' statements, that could be included in the natural sciences curriculum. Additionally, through interviews with adherents of the religion, the study sought to analyze a created didactic sequence and to understand, from their conceptions: what is nature for Candomblé? Which of these forms of knowledge marginalized by Eurocentric scientific knowledge could be incorporated into the school curriculum? Among the results found, we highlight that there is not a single conception of what nature is, given that Candomblé is an essentially oral religion, with its knowledge and wisdom passed down from generation to generation, gaining our senses and interpretations. Finally, among the knowledge listed to be incorporated into the classroom are the use of plants, traditional foods, dances and songs, gender, sexuality, environmental education, among others.

The Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem (CVRP) is a classic problem in combinatorial optimization, aimed at optimizing the routes of vehicles with limited storage capacity to meet customer demands. The primary goal of the CVRP is to find a feasible solution that minimizes the total route cost in a weighted graph. This problem is widely studied due to its relevance in various practical applications, such as logistics and distribution. This research aims to develop a hybrid metaheuristic solution composed of Genetic Algorithms (GA), Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), and Tabu Search (TS) to find optimal or near-optimal solutions for the CVRP. The steps established to achieve this objective include the development of the hybrid algorithm ACO+TS combined with GA for the CVRP, conducting computational experiments using test instances, comparing the results obtained by the proposed algorithm with known optimal solutions or those obtained by other existing optimization methods, and analyzing the results to identify advantages, limitations, and potential improvements of the proposed algorithm. The results demonstrate that the GA, ACO, and TS are highly effective in solving complex instances of the CVRP. In several tested instances, the solutions found were close to or exceeded the reference optimal values, highlighting the high efficiency of the proposed method. In conclusion, the hybrid ACO+TS approach combined with GA has confirmed its effectiveness in solving complex vehicle routing problems, providing a solid foundation for future research. The hybrid combination of algorithms contributes to obtaining high-quality solutions and efficiently exploring the solution space.

The tobacco market in Brazil presents continuous expansion, and faces, in addition to competition, several legislative restrictions that may represent barriers in the negotiation with retailers. The Reverse Logistics represents an efficient politics responsible for generating value for the client and competitive advantage for the company. Thus, investing in reverse flow politics of the aftermarket, that is, stimulating the return of unsold items, proves to be an attractive tool in the relationship with new customers. Therefore, the objective of this research is to evaluate the competitiveness gains that the reverse logistics of aftermarket can provide to retailers and the distribution network that supplies them. The present research is a case study, applied to the relationship between the agents that act in the distribution and return of a large tobacco industry. It is an exploratory research type, of an applied nature with a combined approach (quantitative and qualitative). Thus, the research instruments used were the analysis of documents and performance indicators, as well as the application of an online questionnaire to a previously selected sample and, finally, the direct and participant observation of the object of study. The results obtained demonstrated that there is a well-defined reverse flow policy, with competitive benefits observed such as a guarantee of a positive corporate image, increased competitiveness and market share, and differentiation of services were identified by the interlocutors, that benefits both sides involved.

Knowing the importance of water courses for cities and their growth, understand that changes in their uses and occupations are necessary, as water is of great importance to the Earth and thus needs to be conserved. This study evaluated the changes in land use and occupation in the Monjolinho River basin (São Carlos - SP) over the last decades and the environmental impacts resulting from these alterations. Using geoprocessing techniques applied to MapBiomas data, the study mapped changes in vegetation cover and identified the main human activities associated with them, such as agricultural and urban expansions. The assessment revealed a significant reduction in areas of native vegetation, particularly the Forest Formation and Savanna Formation, which were replaced by cultivation and urbanization areas. This deforestation may have contributed to a several of negative environmental impacts, including habitat fragmentation, loss of biodiversity, increased soil erosion, and deterioration of water quality in the basin's water bodies. The decrease in areas of natural vegetation cover may also affect local hydrological cycles, resulting in issues such as reduced water infiltration into the soil and increased surface runoff, which can exacerbate flooding and decrease aquifer recharge. Urban growth has also altered the watercourses in the basin, which have undergone processes of channelization and pollution and have lost much of their vegetation cover. In an attempt to conserve the water resources that supply the city, laws such as the Areas of Protection and Recovery of Municipal Watersheds have been instituted, but the area of Monjolinho basin defined by this law still suffers from impacts related to urban use.

This monograph deals with the verification of environmental promises during the “honeymoon” period of the Lula III government. Using content analysis as a methodology, the campaign promises of the PT, PL, MDB and PDT, expressed in their government programs and submitted to the Superior Electoral Court for the 2022 presidential elections were examined. They were coded into 1) promises that could be verified if the proponent were to win the elections, and 2) rhetorical promises; and in relation to the thematic contents presented by the candidates. Of the promises raised, those relating to the environmental issue were specified. The objective is to monitor whether the verifiable promises on the environment made by candidate Lula were fulfilled during his first year in office (2023), based on his Propositions and the Normative Acts of the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change. Overall, the data points to a majority of rhetorical promises in almost all parties. However, there was a commitment by the government to follow through with proposals that resembled verifiable promises dealing with the environmental issue

The construction industry plays a fundamental role in the Brazilian economy, but it is also responsible for the high consumption of natural resources, energy, and significant CO₂ emissions. Additionally, it generates a large amount of solid waste, contributing to negative environmental impacts. In light of this, it becomes essential to adopt strategies that minimize these effects, such as the reuse of waste, increasingly valued as alternative sources of raw materials that can be improved. It is worth noting that cement, indispensable in construction projects, releases CO₂ during its production. However, cementitious materials have the ability to capture this gas over time through the carbonation process. Thus, the present work aims to quantify the CO₂ absorption in concretes with 20% cement replacement by glass powder, due to carbonation, through thermogravimetric analysis. Furthermore, carbonation depth was measured by spraying a pH indicator on samples subjected to natural carbonation, and the compressive strength of the concretes was tested. The concrete with 20% glass powder reached the greatest carbonation depth in the shortest time, with 9.37 mm in 28 days. Regarding compressive strength, both the reference concrete and the one with glass powder showed similar results, with the mix incorporating glass powder achieving 153.20% of the minimum requirement of NBR 6136 at 28 days. Thermogravimetric analysis revealed that the reference concrete captured 48.39 Kg.CO₂/m³, absorbing around 60.88% of the CO₂ emissions, while the mix with glass powder absorbed up to 61.77%. These results indicate that the incorporation of glass powder is an effective alternative for reducing CO₂ emissions, contributing to the mitigation of the environmental impacts of the construction industry.

Urban mobility planning plays a crucial role in building sustainable and efficient cities as it promotes universal accessibility and contributes to environmental preservation. To support its implementation, the internationally recognized TOD Standard - Transit-Oriented Development Standard — is presented as a criterion to evaluate the mobility conditions in cities. The objective of this research is to combine the aforementioned TOD methodology with classical concepts of spatial statistics in a neighborhood of São Carlos-SP, a medium-sized Brazilian city, to estimate its current conditions of sustainable urban mobility and assess whether there is spatial autocorrelation between census tracts (defined by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics - IBGE) in relation to the TOD indicators. The application of the methodology in the Cidade Jardim neighborhood of São Carlos-SP allowed the identification of overall TOD standards ranging from Very Low to Low, with moderate spatial autocorrelation between census tracts only in bicycle use. The main limitations of the study include methodological simplifications concerning the TOD Standard itself and the subdivision of the units of analysis. Future work is suggested to use other units of analysis and conduct bivariate analyses to better address the spatial association between the TOD criteria.

The quality of food has a direct impact on the onset of certain diseases, such as mental disorders. The present study aims to deepen the understanding of the understanding of the students of the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), Sorocaba campus, about food, considering fundamental concepts such as the major food groups (carbohydrates, proteins, lipids), as well as to carry out a survey of the eating habits of these students and establish a relationship between their diet and depression, anxiety, and stress disorders. The study also aims to evaluate a possible reduction in the symptoms of mental disorders in foods rich in antioxidants belonging to the Brassicaceae family. To achieve these objectives, a research was conducted involving data collection, using the following self-administered instruments: 1. Questionnaires on lifestyle and relationship with food and mental disorders; 2. DASS- 21 scale; and 3. Food Frequency Questionnaire. The results showed that among UFSCar students, there is a prevalence of the mentioned mental disorders (depression, anxiety, and stress) and a dissatisfaction with the way in which food-related topics are addressed, when addressed among the students analyzed. In addition, women presented higher levels of anxiety, depression, and stress compared to men, which may indicate that women pay more attention to their own health, moreover, the consumption of foods belonging to the Brassicaceae family did not show significant results when associated with influence on the levels of the disorders studie

This thesis, established within the scope of the Postgraduate Program in Science, Technology and Society - PPGCTS at the Federal University of São Carlos - UFSCar, aims at a analysis of the impacts of Capital in the formation of the political agenda within the era post-digital. To this end, the reading is done with a theoretical framework of studies on the control society, both in a global parameter reached in 2020, which is called Digital Totalitarianism, and at an internal level, in Brazil at least since 2013-2016, in its specific correlation with the Hybrid Wars. This reading is done, in another nuance, through a legal-social approach, highlighting the political manipulation of the normative system, triggering phenomena such as Constitutional Transmutation and the deformation of the Rule of Law. In this quadrant, the hypothesis developed based on Digital Law influenced by Human Rights and the Political Charter to form a barrier to contain the advance of capital over politics and its harmful effects on human society, giving way to the development of socio-technoscience. The methodology applied is predominantly marked by the phenomenological method, formatted from theoretical readings and political reality, apparently disconnected, especially when they denounce the injustice programmed by capitalism, duly treated to format the concepts and results presented in the research. The conclusion that can be reached is that Digital Law needs to be developed under the rule of Human Rights and the Political Charter must be preserved and, if taken seriously, they form an efficient antidote in the fight against inequality and exploitation that are based on law and technology.

In this Final Paper, based on the theory of Materialist Discourse Analysis and Digital Discourse Analysis, I try to identify, explain and describe the discursive functioning of the so-called copypastas. As an object, copypastas – a technogenre (Paveau, 2021) – are ‘‘blocks of text'' which, through the action of copying and pasting (and therefore ''copy''/''pasta''), circulate and crystallize in digital environments through spam. Generally ironic, their signification and production of sense – considering the gestures of interpretation of user-subjects – are necessarily linked to the fact that this block of text is identified as a copypasta. In order to understand its discursive functioning, I analyze “prototypical” excerpts, considering the instances of production of sense, namely: constitution, formulation and circulation, according to Orlandi (2022). I then analyze the way in which the “birth” of non-prototypical copypastas take place – and the obstacles to their “survival”. Based on these analyses, I propose the “hypothesis” of the meta-existence of copypastas: through a hyperbole, they would be indicative of the basic functioning of discourses of/in the digital world. The “rule” in the chaos of online discursive production is the “primacy of form” - that is, the thought that the “physical form” of a text overdetermines its meaning, due to the co-enunciative weight that the technical (including the algorithmic, the “behind the screen”) brings to digital discourses.

The main objective of this work is to carry out an analysis of K.: Relato de uma Busca, by Bernardo Kucinski based on the notion of testimony. The book tells the story of the character K.'s search for his missing daughter during the Brazilian military dictatorship. To this end, we will propose an initial theoretical discussion about the perspectives and notions of what constitutes a work with testimonial content, mainly based on the research of Márcio Seligmann-Silva. Still in the first part, we present a dialogue between literature and history, based on texts by Walter Benjamin and readings carried out by Seligmann-Silva and Jeanne Marie Gagnebin. To address the issue of trauma and mourning, we set foot in psychoanalysis together with Freud, in addition to delving into the notion of resentment based on the studies of Maria Rita Kehl and Luis Kancyper. In the second part of the work, we begin the analysis of Bernardo Kucinski's report, with a study that proposes to be multidisciplinary by touching on literary issues and also by building dialogues with the theories presented previously and other texts from the sociological and journalistic fields. In this movement, we present a contextualization of the Brazilian dictatorship from the perspective of its continuity, based on texts by Fabio Victor, Edson Teles, among others. Finally, we look at testimony as a possible place for individual and collective repair.

Despite the appeal for new forms of cultivation and the growing development of agroecology in recent decades, there is still a limited technical and scientific approach in the area of polyculture, which contributes to the low adoption by farmers. The present study aimed to understand the dynamics and performance of intercropping corn and pumpkin when compared to the implementation of different commercial pumpkin varieties. The experiment was carried out in randomized blocks, with three treatments and four replications. The treatments consisted of intercropping corn (Zea mays L.) and a different pumpkin variety: (a) Moranga Exposição (Cucurbita maxima), (b) Mini Paulista (Cucurbita moschata) and (c) Menina Brasileira (Cucurbita moschata). Monoculture control areas were also conducted for each of the crops and varieties studied. Was evaluated: the phenology of the crops; growth variables such as stem diameter, plant height and number of flowers; soil cover of each pumpkin variety; weed population; sex ratio of each pumpkin variety and productivity of each crop and variety. Corn phenology did not change with the treatments, and the phenology of pumpkin varieties showed variations mainly with the increase in the period between the emission of the first male flower and the emission of the first female flower, in addition to the decrease in the period of most intense competition. Growth variables for corn and pumpkin showed no difference between treatments. The percentage of soil cover of the Menina Brasileira and Mini Paulista varieties, with 74 and 88 days after planting, was higher than that of the Moranga Exposição variety, as well as the mass of dry matter of weeds was lower in the treatments that presented greater cover. The productivity of both corn and pumpkins did not show statistical difference. The Land Equivalent Ratio (LER) was only above one for the Mini Paulista and Menina Brasileira varieties, with values of 1.17 and 1.11, respectively. Thus, it is concluded that the treatments with the Mini Paulista and Menina Brasileira varieties were superior, both by the IEA and by the greater percentage of cover and suppression of weeds.

In Brazil, silviculture of exotic species is a growing activity and species of the genus Eucalyptus are widely exploited for the production of paper and pulp. However, eucalyptus production in Brazil faces some challenges, such as the incidence of pests such as the shell psyllid, an exotic insect that can threaten the productivity of commercial areas. Therefore, the present study aimed to verify the population fluctuation of shell psyllid nymphs in a microregion of the state of São Paulo in 2021 in three distinct eucalyptus clones and to evaluate how meteorological variables and clones influence infestation levels. For this purpose, young commercial plantations of three distinct clones were sampled from january to december 2021 regarding nymph infestation levels, maximum and minimum temperatures, water deficit, and precipitation. The sampled data were subjected to principal component analysis (PCA) to obtain the results inherent to the correlation of variables and to the Kruskal-Wallis test and Dunn's test at 5% significance. It was observed that the genetic material and water deficit positively influenced PC1, a component responsible for 43.2% of the variability of the observed results and, consequently, of the nymph infestation levels. For the average nymph infestation levels in the clones, there was a statistical difference between the pairs of clones 2–3 and 2–1, where clones 1 and 3 presented the highest average nymph infestation levels. In addition, the population peaks of the shell psyllid nymphs were higher during the dry season.

It is very common to use mixtures of different pesticides in agriculture, and the result of an association between them can be antagonism (less effect of the mixture when compared to the products applied separately), synergism (enhanced effect of the mixture) or additive (equal effects of the mixture compared to the products applied alone). The aim of this work was to verify the effect of mixtures of herbicides and insecticides on wheat development and on the catalytic activity of the antioxidant enzyme Glutathione S-Transferase (GST) in wheat plants. Two experiments were carried out involving two insecticides from the pyrethroid group: deltamethrin (5 g a.i. ha-1) and acetamiprid + fenpropathrin (30 g a.i. ha-1 + 45 g a.i. ha-1). These insecticides were applied together or in combination with the herbicide pyroxsulam (18 g i.a ha-1), simulating a tank mix and different intervals between the application of the insecticide and herbicide (3 and 7 days). For each experiment, the experimental design was completely randomized with 7 treatments and 4 replications. The results were observed using two assessment methods, one according to visual symptoms of phytotoxicity in the crop assessed at 7, 14, 21 and 28 days after application (DAA) and the other by taking samples of the leaves and roots of the wheat plants 24, 48 and 72 hours after application to assess the effects of the mixtures on the action of the GST enzyme. It can be seen in both experiments that the treatment where the insecticide was applied 7 days before the application of the herbicide showed greater phytotoxicity than the others, as well as a delay in the wheat plants' panicle emission, showing that the selectivity of the herbicide in relation to the wheat crop was affected by the insecticides.
