Metabolic Theory is one of the main theories used to understand trophic networks and energy flows in ecosystems. In general, a decrease in population density is expected as the individual body size of species increases, thus sustaining the flow of energy that should flow from smaller to larger organisms. In this study, we sought to understand the disproportionality in size-density relationships of macroinvertebrates observed in Atlantic Forest streams, potentially influenced by the functional singularities of the taxa. To this end, the positive residuals of the SDR (size-density relationship) were calculated and the functional characteristics of each species were compiled in order to find a relationship between greater population abundance and specific foraging strategies. Although the general trend showed a negative relationship between size and abundance, as expected, some taxa exhibited greater abundance than predicted for their average body masses. The analysis also indicated that functional singularity (rare functional strategies) is not associated with greater abundance. However, we identified specific combinations of functional traits associated with higher biomass in Trichoptera, such as anal claws, presence of a slime gland, fixed house builders and collector-filter feeding habits. These findings suggest that certain combinations of traits may favor the disproportionate abundance of some taxa.

Caracterização in silico do Complexo E3 Ubiquitina-ligase LinfCrl1 (Cullin 1 RING-ligase) em Leishmania infantum
(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2024-09-18) Torres, Caroline; Maruyama, Sandra Regina Costa; https://lattes.cnpq.br/5719754923228879; Teixeira, Felipe Roberti; https://lattes.cnpq.br/3568850159381693; https://lattes.cnpq.br/5460844349681284
The ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) is responsible for protein ubiquitination, which is essential for intracellular proteolysis in eukaryotes. E3 ligases are part of the UPS and play a key role in the ubiquitination process. They recognize and ubiquitinate substrates, targeting them for degradation by the proteasome or processing by deubiquitinase enzymes (DUBs). Cullin-RING-type E3 ligases (CRLs) are the largest and most studied class of mammalian E3s. CRLs are composed of SKP1, CUL1, RBX1, and an F-box protein that interacts with SKP1 through its F-box domain and recruits substrates for ubiquitination. In protozoan parasites that alternate between hosts, intracellular proteolysis is essential for parasitism. However, the SUP of many parasites remains unexplored, including trypanosomatids of the genus Leishmania. Individuals of this genus cause leishmaniasis, a set of diseases with different clinical manifestations (cutaneous, mucocutaneous and visceral forms) depending on the infecting species. Previous results from our group demonstrated that the LinfCRL1 complex is present in L. infantum regulating the cell cycle, and the interactions between its components were validated. In this study, the phylogenetic analysis of orthologous proteins from 12 Leishmania species returned two main clades, formed by the subgenera Viannia and Leishmania, corroborating the already known phylogenetic relationship, inferring the conservation of these genes in Leishmania. In addition, our study performed structural analyses and molecular dynamics simulation of the LinfCRL1 complex. The L. infantum proteins LinfSkp1, LinfCul1 and LinfRbx1 are structurally similar compared to their respective human orthologs: SKP1, CUL1 and RBX1. The interaction motifs of each protein are highly conserved. The similarity was quantified by the RMSD metric with results of 1.7, 4.8 and 7 Å, respectively for SKP1, CUL1 and RBX1. We assembled these proteins in a complex with the first 100 amino acids of the L. infantum F-box protein LinfFlp1. The structural prediction program AlphaFold2 returned a model with the same conformational pattern as the H. sapiens complex, suggesting the same cellular function. To visualize the behavior of the complex over time, we performed Molecular Dynamics (MD), revealing a mobility in LinfCul1, bringing LinfSkp1 closer to LinfRbx1. This movement has not yet been described in the H. sapiens ortholog. Collectively, these results are a significant step in the functional characterization of LymphCRLs in Leishmania, essential for understanding the biology of these parasites.

Basketball is becoming very popular in Brazil, which makes people from different social classes to start practising the sport. However, to play basketball, it is needed, despite the ball, a hoop to throw the ball in, and the problem is that the most financially accessible products are fragile and can break easily after some time of playing. In order to democratize the practice of basketball, the developing of good and cheap hoops is extremely important. Therefore, in this project, the loads and stresses caused on the main parts of the rim by the constant impacts of the ballwill be analysed. Thus, it will be studied the viability of replacing materials from the hoop, changing its parts geometry or the way it is assembled in order to improve the mechanical strength of the hoop. The study will begin with the understanding of the basketball shooting dynamics, so it will be possible to calculate the force of the impact. Subsequently, the Finite Element Method will be applied in a model created for this process in order to obtain the mechanical stresses generated in the rim due to the shock. The simulations will be made considering the most common models and materials found on the market, which will then be compared with alternative assemblies. The results found in the simulation will enable a critical analysis of the comparisons, ultimately determining if there is an alternative solution for the assembly of the cheapest hoops that presents more durability while remaining accessible.

Agriculture is indispensable to the way human society currently lives in the world, as it is the source of most of the food consumed by humans across the planet. In this sense, irrigation is a very important process, as it allows for the control and improvement of production since the beginning of human sedentism, given that the societies that developed the best since antiquity were those that used irrigation systems, such as the Egyptians, Romans, and Mesopotamian peoples. Given this importance, it is necessary to consider the best way to carry out the irrigation process. This work aimed to compare different forms of irrigation control, among them traditional controllers and manual irrigation systems, and to verify which is the most efficient and viable form among them by comparing soil moisture levels, water savings, and controller performance based on classical criteria. The aim was to compare these traditional control methods with a controller that uses fuzzy logic and the Arduino platform through the practical implementation of some controllers and a literature review to gather existing comparisons. In the end, it was possible to conclude that the control with fuzzy logic presented better results, with greater water savings and less overshoot, although it had a slower response compared to other types of controllers, even with its faster start.

This is a Course Completion Work (TCC) in the field of pedagogy, with the primary objective of promoting the study of law and education, specifically the right to education. It aims to address the ongoing task of ensuring that such a fundamental right, like the right to receive and provide education, is not undermined, restricted, or even abolished. An educated individual transforms nature through their work and, in doing so, shapes society in the pursuit of equality with others. In the current context of the Rule of Law in our country, the right to education was enshrined through the legal frameworks established by the Federal Constitution of 1988, as this right had not always been guaranteed. However, there is a legal subtlety to be noted: it was with Constitutional Amendment No. 108 in 2020, through an amendment to Article 206 of the Federal Constitution (CF/88), which included section IX, that it was ensured the right to education could not be suppressed, under the penalty of violating a legal principle—the principle of non-retrogression regarding the human right to receive and provide education. Focusing on the history of education, research was conducted to trace the guarantees of the right to education over the centuries, revealing that education is often subject to the whims of those in power. The effort to domesticate such power, whether cultural, economic, or political, began to take shape in 1948 with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. However, I understand that one cannot discuss Human Rights without providing a foundation for their protection; there is no right if it cannot be safeguarded. This is why I have addressed the international systems for the protection of Human Rights: the global system (UN and its specialized bodies) and regional systems (European, African, Arab, Asian, and Inter-American), while also differentiating between education in human rights and education for human rights—another subtlety of the Portuguese language. The theoretical framework of human rights led to the creation of the principle of non-retrogression in society, and it was this principle that shaped the insertion of section IX into Article 206 of our Federal Constitution in 2020.

The purpose of this paper is to discuss and characterize the different contributions that the dissemination carried out on social media by alternative scientific networks can make to the social conception of science and scientists, contributing to aspects such as representativeness, anti-racism and ancestry. These alternative networks are made up of black people, indigenous people, trans people, women and minority groups who go against the standard notion of science communicators. In this context, we intend to discuss how these contributions confront image control, an idea proposed by Patricia Hill (COLLINS; BILGE, 2021), and how this dissemination of knowledge aims to combat the selective manner, intrinsically correlated to the phenotypical characteristics of the disseminators, a phenomenon described by Stuart Hall’s reception theory (HALL, 2003; ALEXANDER, 2009). Furthermore, through the use of digital flow control tools on social media, the regional behavioral aspects of these virtual environments will be discussed and how such regionalisms illustrate the interest of dominant groups.

The methodologies for analyzing the performance of materials have been increasingly utilized within the construction industry. Comparing construction methods in terms of the life cycle of their constituent materials is one way to conduct these analyses. This study aims to contribute to this topic by comparing three construction systems using the results of a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for a building project based on each system. After reviewing the literature, indicators of potential impact regarding CO2 emissions, energy consumption, and water consumption were gathered for each component and material constituting the three construction methods. Subsequently, the quantity of materials needed for the building construction was determined according to the project specifications. With the total impact map of each component, it was possible to evaluate the key materials concerning their contribution to the overall impact resulting from the building construction using one of the three methods. The method with the highest impact was the cast-in-place concrete wall in terms of CO2 emissions, while the concrete block wall had the highest embodied energy. The ceramic block system showed the lowest overall impacts; however, when comparing only the transportation impacts of each system, it exhibited the highest values. It was also possible to identify, within each method, the material and component with the greatest potential impact concerning the analyzed parameters, as well as which method had the lowest total potential impact across each parameter.

This work presents the development of an educational game in the "Guess Who" style as a playful tool for teaching botany, with a focus on urban afforestation. It also discusses the use of educational games as a facilitating tool in the teaching of botany, a field that, despite its relevance, faces challenges in terms of attracting students and overcoming the phenomenon known as botanical imperception, a term used to explain the difficulty in recognizing the importance of plants in the environment. The main objective was to create a more accessible and attractive approach for students, providing a dynamic learning experience about the importance of trees in cities, especially species easily found in Sorocaba and the region. The methodology used included a literature review on the use of games in teaching and game development. The results showed that the use of educational games can not only facilitate the understanding of botanical concepts, but also increase student engagement, promoting active and collaborative learning. Furthermore, the game contributes to the development of cognitive skills, such as logical reasoning and memorization, and reinforces students' environmental awareness. The work concludes that the use of playful approaches, such as the game "Guess Who in urban afforestation", in teaching botany is effective in integrating theory and practice, arousing students' interest in the subject.

Accounting is a social science that follows changes in society and has the specific objective of assisting its users in decision-making. Its developments are in specific areas such as costs, taxes, management and environmental issues. The main objective of this work is to present the participation of Brazilian accountants in the ESG agenda, what relevant information is produced by the class, and how to demonstrate the environmental impacts caused by companies in Brazil. In addition to the participation or not of Brazilian accountants in the ESG agenda, this work sought to understand the studies on environmental accounting and whether it has become a path for the construction and insertion of ESG in Brazil. Much information has been disclosed about a responsible social culture on the part of companies, called new capitalism, and internal policies have also been applied and disclosed. This dissertation work arises from the questions raised about the effective measurement and application of ESG carried out by Brazilian accountants. To this in-depth study, we researched the disclosure of content in scientific journals in the accounting area. The selected journals were the Brazilian Accounting Journal, produced by the Federal Accounting Council, a representative body for the profession, the Accounting Education and Research Journal and the Accounting and Finance Journal, produced by FEA/USP in partnership with Fipecafi, which are institutions that support the practice of accounting professionals in Brazil. The research was based on a mixed qualitative and qualitative bibliographic methodology, verifying the scientific productions of accountants on the ESG agenda in Brazil. It was concluded that there are few studies and analyses from the accounting field itself about practical guidelines on ESG, demonstrating that it is still a subject under construction in Brazil.

Desempenho de alface crespa cultivadas em sistema convencional e hidropônico
(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2024-09-18) Mazaroski, Pedro Miguel; Sala, Fernando César; https://lattes.cnpq.br/6771975466075202
Lettuce is the main leafy vegetable in Brazil and worldwide. Its cultivation is mainly done using two planting systems: conventional and hydroponic. However, for most cultivars, there is no clear recommendation on which system is best suited for cultivation. Defining the behavior of these varieties in both cultivation systems can help provide better planting recommendations. The objective was to evaluate and compare the biometric characteristics of different varieties and lines of curly lettuce in a hydroponic system using the Nutrient Film Technique (NFT) and a conventional (field) system, aiming to identify the varieties and lines that adapt best to each system. The evaluation was carried out in a hydroponic system and a conventional system located at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), Araras. The evaluation was conducted 37 to 40 days after seedling transplantation. The varieties chosen for this experiment were based on lines produced by UFSCar’s genetic improvement program and commercial varieties that are market benchmarks. For the conventional system, the Crocantela, F10 206, and Vanda lines showed the highest fresh aerial mass values, which may be linked to the high plant height and diameter values, as well as earlier bolting compared to the others. In the hydroponic system, these three lines also obtained the top positions for fresh aerial mass, but with less disparity between them. Additionally, the Jade cultivar stood out with the fourth-largest fresh mass, very close to the third-place Vanda. This closeness in values was also observed in the other measured characteristics, due to the more homogeneous nature of the system. The conventional system showed greater variation in results among the lettuces, while the hydroponic system achieved more uniform values. Despite this, the Vanda, Jade, Crocantela, and F10 206 varieties had satisfactory values in both systems.

Accordingly, the research examines the premise of continuing education within the Competency Map of PEI (Integral Education Program) through a bibliographic review of field research and studies, assessing the extent to which this document supports the foundations of teacher professionalization. The investigation is grounded in the epistemology of practice as its theoretical framework, drawing on authors such as Perrenoud (1999; 2000), Machado (2002), Dutra (2010), and Dias (2010) to discuss the concept of competencies; Imbernón (2011) and Nóvoa (1992, 2017) to address the concept of continuing education; and Imbérnon (2011), Marcelo (2009), Thurler (2002), Tardif (2012, 2013, 2014), Gauthier et al (1998), Contreras (2002), and Gatti (2010) in order to focus on professional development and teacher professionalization. Following a qualitative approach based on Lüdke and André (1986) and Gil (2008), along with an exploratory-descriptive study design (SELLTIZ et al, 1965), the research was conducted through documentary analysis (Gil, 2017) of materials related to the PEI, specifically focusing on the Competency Map and its premise regarding continuing education, alongside a literature review of research (2012-2023) and authors in the field of teacher professionalization. The analyzed data were organized into four analytical axes: Axis 1 – Competencies; Axis 2 – Continuing education and knowledge mastery; Axis 3 – Continuing education and self-development; and Axis 4 – Teacher professionalization. The first three axes were developed based on the principles outlined in the Competency Map, while the last one stemmed from a perspective advocating for an epistemology of professional practice. The analyses revealed that although the Competency Map and PEI recognize the importance of continuing education, the predominant approach has been technical, focused on practical and observable institutional knowledge, thus limiting the full realization of teacher professionalization. This technicist perspective, associated with the phenomenon of proletarianization and rationalization of teaching, disregards reflective, critical, and autonomous aspects essential for professionalization. Therefore this research is expected to contribute to critical reflection on the teacher professionalization movement of professionals working within PEI, recognizing the importance of autonomy and valuing the knowledge produced and mobilized by teachers in their work contexts.
