In Brazil, Law No. 12.305/2010, which established the National Solid Waste Policy (PNRS), defines principles and guidelines for the environmentally appropriate disposal of waste, prioritizing reduction, reuse, recycling, and treatment before final disposal. In this context, this study aimed to analyze the Solid Waste Management Plan (PGRS) of an automotive industry and identify aspects for improvement. A challenge related to the management of raw material packaging was identified, and improvement actions were proposed. The study involved steps of characterizing the industry and its production process, identifying and classifying the generated waste, analyzing the current management system, and developing an optimization proposal based on source segregation practices and partnerships focused on recycling and material recovery. The results showed that, although the current management model complies with existing legislation, it can be enhanced through measures that promote conventional recycling and reduce dependence on co-processing. The proposed actions proved to be technically and environmentally feasible, contributing to the reduction of operational costs, environmental impacts, and reinforcing sustainability and circular economy practices within the organization. Its intrinsic properties, such as high mechanical strength, biocompatibility, biodegradability, and high water-holding capacity, make it a versatile and highly attractive material. However, these same characteristics may pose limitations, especially when the surface properties are not suitable for the intended application. In this context, plasma modification emerges as an effective strategy for tailoring BNC surface properties, enabling both the reduction and enhancement of its wettability, as well as introducing new functionalities such as antimicrobial activity. Adsorption is an efficient and low-cost technique for the removal of such pollutants, especially when using alternative materials derived from agro-industrial residues. Therefore, the aim of this work was to evaluate the adsorption performance of phenol using raw and sodium hydroxide- treated sugarcane bagasse ash, investigating structural modifications and their effects on adsorption efficiency. The samples were characterized through iodine number and methylene blue number tests, indicators of microporosity and mesoporosity, respectively, and subjected to adsorption kinetic experiments. The experimental data were fitted to pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order kinetic models.The results showed a significant increase in porosity after alkaline treatment, with iodine and methylene blue numbers nearly doubling. The treated ash exhibited greater efficiency and faster phenol removal, with the pseudo-second-order model providing the best fit, indicating that chemisorption is predominant.It is concluded that NaOH-treated sugarcane bagasse ash is a sustainable and low-cost alternative for treating phenol-contaminated wastewater.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Processo de desenvolvimento de autonomia e de estratégias de aprendizagem de alunos de um curso de Letras em aulas de espanhol durante a pandemia de Covid-19(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2025-11-19) Souza, Vitórya Christina Figueroa de; Yokota, Rosa; https://lattes.cnpq.br/9230517686993400; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1672-1430; https://lattes.cnpq.br/8726842413318528; https://orcid.org/0009-0007-9144-6583This research aims to investigate the process of learning Spanish as a foreign language (SFL) during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, with the purpose of identifying and understanding the learning strategies adopted by a group of undergraduate students in a Spanish Language and Literature program, as well as examining how learner autonomy is—or is not—developed, a key element for meaningful learning, especially in the context of a foreign language (FL). The theoretical framework that guides this study encompasses the concept of teaching and learning processes (Larsen-Freeman, 2000, apud Paiva, 2014; Karnikowski; Konageski, 2020; Tori, 2010), learning strategies (Oxford, 1990), and learner autonomy (Paiva, 2006, 2014). This investigation is qualitative in nature and was based on the accounts provided by 15 participants during semi-structured interviews. The objective is to understand whether these programs were effective not only from an economic perspective but also regarding environmental sustainability and the capacity for adaptation to climate change. The research adopts a qualitative and quantitative approach, based on an integrative systematic literature review focusing on studies, theses, and articles that evaluated the outcomes of these programs in different regions of São Paulo. The results showed that the Watershed Program I was essential for strengthening family farming and conserving natural resources, standing out for encouraging the adoption of sustainable practices, environmental restoration, and improvements in rural infrastructure. The Watershed Program II, although advancing in the strengthening of cooperatives and associations and promoting the market integration of family farmers, presented weaknesses in social inclusion and environmental integration. The discontinuity between the two phases generated distrust and reduced the long-term positive impacts of public policies. The spatial modeling of erosive processes is widely used in rural contexts to predict losses and prevent damages, and in urban contexts to support territorial planning and management. Currently, the most widespread modeling techniques focus on rural areas, primarily addressing sheet erosion. Studies encompassing urban and peri-urban areas, with a focus on linear erosion, are scarce. In both cases, when incorporated into studies, the land use and land cover factor often fails to consider temporal dynamics of change and is analyzed without accounting for the contributing area to the phenomenon. Acknowledging this gap, the main objective of this thesis was to investigate the effect of land cover transitions within the hydrological contributing area on the triggering of linear erosion in urban and peri-urban areas. To achieve this aim, the research was structured into three articles. Laying the groundwork for this thesis's hypothesis, the first article demonstrated that the variability of the phenomenon is predominantly explained by anthropogenic variables (land use and land cover), which had a greater impact than natural factors. Through a literature review, the second article identified that the sampling of negative instances and the delimitation of their areas of influence emerge as critical methodological aspects for the robustness of machine learning models applied to the analysis of erosive processes. The third article investigated the patterns of land cover change with the greatest influence on the occurrence of erosion. For this purpose, a comparative analysis was conducted, incorporating land use transitions over a twenty-year interval (1990-2010) and adopting two distinct spatial approaches: (i) a 100 m buffer and (ii) the hydrological contributing area of each feature. Decision tree models revealed that the most important transitions for classification were those related to agricultural uses that remained stable or converted to non-vegetated areas. The comparison between approaches demonstrated that the hydrological contributing area was more effective in identifying positive cases of erosion, with the "preserved forest areas" variable being the most relevant in its model. However, the buffer strategy provided a better overall predictive balance between the classes. In summary, the results have the potential to aid in the understanding and prediction of linear erosive processes in urban areas, contributing to the technical-scientific field and to society as a whole by assisting in the prevention of environmental, social, and economic damages.
