Youth climate activism typically emphasizes global protests, yet institutional models in the Global South remain underexplored. Here we analyze the Young Environmental Ambassadors program in São Carlos, Brazil, where elected high-school students operationalize environmental democracy's three pillars (information, participation, justice) through MPSP facilitated hearings on nature-based solutions (NbS). Questionnaire data (n = 10), interviews (n = 5), and observations (n = 12 meetings) reveal curriculum-aligned training informed council elections and hearings addressing Espraiado Stream water governance, Bicão Park greenspace protection, and Cidade Aracy waste management, yielding Municipal Law 21.458/2023. Prosecutorial facilitation in affected schools positioned youth as community-state mediators, preventing radicalization via institutional channels. This scalable triad integration offers Global South municipalities a replicable NbS governance model, building long-term climate resilience absent in transnational protest frameworks.

Primary Health Care (PHC) in Brazil underwent a structural change in its financing model in 2019. The Previne Brasil Program (PPB in portuguese), established by Ordinance GM/MS No. 2,979/2019, introduced significant changes in the way resources are allocated and impacted the organization of health work. This study aimed to understand the effects of this change on the work of health professionals, focusing on the contradictions and ideological elements that permeate this experience. This is a qualitative, descriptive, and analytical study, conducted through a narrative review compared with the legal framework on the subject, discursive analysis of interviews with management-level workers and thematic analysis of interviews with frontline care workers who had professional experiences before and after the implementation of PPB. Results show a historical context of underfunding of the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS in portuguese) particularly of PHC, which, captured by a discourse of efficiency and cost containment, finds in PPB one of its main milestones for implementation. Analysis of the statements made by management-level workers confirmed criticisms of the model, even as these statements operationalized an administrative and managerialist discourse. Furthermore, analysis of interviews with frontline care workers revealed an intensification of pressure in the workplace, reduced time allocated to consultation, impairments in the quality of care, and the weakening of collective spaces, all associated with the centrality of quantitative targets and the managerial logic introduced by the new financing model. Thus, the PPB (Basic Planning Program) operates as a political-institutional device that reorganizes work processes, affecting professional autonomy, territorial ties, and workers’ mental health. It is concluded that ethical-political suffering expresses structural processes of exclusion linked to the institutional reorganization of Primary Health Care, jeopardizing fundamental principles of SUS, such as comprehensiveness, longitudinality, and equity.

In the popular comunas located on the hillsides of Medellín (Colombia), the self-construction of territory coexists with food insecurity, land-use disputes, and recurring risks, while also sustaining dense organizational networks. From a perspective situated in the Global South, this research examines how urban agriculture consolidates and to what extent it strengthens social cohesion and collective action, beyond a strictly productivist framing. The study focuses on practices and organizational processes linked to family and community gardens in Medellín’s Northeastern Urban–Rural Edge (BUR NOR), drawing on the Agroecological Multitudes approach (Giraldo, 2022) to analyze articulations across environmental/territorial, social/organizational, and political dimensions. Methodologically, the research adopts Participatory Action Research, combining semi-structured interviews, focus groups, participant observation, and documentary analysis. The findings indicate that urban and popular agroecology operates as a strategy for territorial defense, generating networks of solidarity and political advocacy. Its hybrid character becomes evident (between reterritorialized ruralities and urban dynamics, and between community autonomy and institutional dependence) reinforcing the centrality of community organization for its continuity.

Microplastics (MPs) are persistent and widely distributed environmental contaminants, whose presence has been increasingly recorded in terrestrial environments. This study aimed to determine the occurrence, distribution, and characterization of MPs in different compartments of the terrestrial environment, including compost products, urban soil aggregates, and coastal sediments. To this end, density separation, organic matter digestion, and visual characterization techniques were used to identify the particles in terms of abundance, shape, color, and size. The results showed the presence of MPs in all compartments analyzed. In compost products, MPs were identified in both the pre- and post maturation stages, at a ratio of 3933 MPs/kg, with a predominance of fibers and wide morphological diversity, indicating that the composting process is not capable of completely eliminating these contaminants. In urban soil aggregates, we obtained an abundance corresponding to 10,283 MPs/kg, with a higher concentration of MPs in water-stable aggregates, especially in the larger fractions, suggesting direct interaction of these contaminants with the soil structure and possible influence on its stability. In coastal sediments, MPs showed variable distribution along the vertical profile, with an average of 11,594.67 ± 9,227.647 MPs/kg, reinforcing the role of sediments as compartments for accumulation and environmental recording of contamination. The results demonstrate that MPs are widely distributed in terrestrial systems, highlighting the need for effective waste management and plastic contamination mitigation strategies.

Reading is an important skill for the personal and social development of the individual. The present study aims to evaluate the effects of Teaching Module 3 – Reading Comprehension of Texts, from the teaching program Learning to Read and Write in Small Steps (ALEPP in Portuguese), on students with reading comprehension difficulties, as well as the effect of this teaching procedure on school tests in Portuguese Language and the application of a social validity questionnaire with teachers and students. For this, two studies were conducted. In both studies, an assessment of word reading skills and text comprehension was employed before and after the teaching procedure, along with a social validity questionnaire administered to students and teachers. In Study 2, the participants’ Portuguese Language school tests were also monitored. In the first study, ten 2nd grade Elementary School I students with difficulties in reading comprehension participated and did Module 3. The data were analyzed individually, and statistical analyses were conducted comparing pre-test and post-test results. In the second study, fourteen 3rd grade Elementary School I students with reading comprehension difficulties participated. They were divided into an Intervention Group (IG), which completed teaching procedure, Module 3, and a Comparison Group (CG), which engaged in reading children’s books. This design was chosen to verify the effect of Module 3 in comparison with another teaching procedure. The assessment instruments used in this study were the same as those in the first study, and the data were statistically analyzed. The results of both studies indicated that Module 3 was effective for teaching reading comprehension, and, in the social validity questionnaire, teachers and students evaluated the research positively and reported academic contributions. In Study 1, a statistically significant difference was found when comparing the pre-test and post-test results of ACoLE 3. In Study 2, within the intervention group, a statistically significant difference was found when comparing the initial test results with the final and maintenance tests of ACoLE 3. Furthermore, in Study 2, within the comparison group, a statistically significant difference was also found when comparing the initial test results with the intermediate, final, and maintenance tests. Regarding the comparison between groups in Study 2, no statistically significant difference was found. In Study 2, about the performance of the groups in Portuguese Language school tests, no statistically significant difference was found between the groups, nor within the comparison group across the school tests. Unlike the intervention group, in which a significant difference was found when comparing the fourth school test results with those of the second and third school tests, suggesting an improvement in student performance in the fourth school test, possibly due to the contribution of teaching procedure, Module 3. However, in the present research, one limitation is the small sample size, and another limitation is that some participants engaged in extracurricular activities offered by the school, which may also have an important role in improving participants’ performance. It is suggested that future studies conduct the intervention with a larger sample of participants and with greater experimental control of variables.

Mobile robotics has gained prominence in the industry, especially through the use of AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles), which contribute to greater efficiency and safety in production processes. To ensure accurate line-following behavior, AGVs rely on controllers, with the PID (Proportional, Integral, and Derivative) being the most commonly used due to its simplicity and effectiveness. This work presents the development of a control systems platform applied to a line-following AGV project. The platform enables the implementation and testing of functionalities, while also ensuring project continuity through a standardized documentation model consisting of seven technical documents and a well-defined software architecture. Practical experiments with the AGV using the PID controller demonstrated proper system operation and validated the platform as an effective tool for preserving project legacy and supporting future enhancements.
