    This research aimed to analyze how the graphic novels Encruzilhada (2016) and Angola Janga: Kingdom of Runaway Slaves (2017), by Marcelo D’Salete, represent the experiences of racism and Black resistance in Brazil. We started from the premise that Black arts and aesthetics in general, and the graphic novels selected here specifically, are important contributions to understanding the social and cultural dynamics that shaped the Afro-Brazilian experience. Our investigation starts from the following sociological problem: in what way and with what tools do the comic books Encruzilhada and Angola Janga: Kingdom of Runaway Slaves, by Marcelo D’Salete, represent the experiences of racism and black resistance in Brazil? More specifically, we sought to: a) sociologically analyze the production process and the meanings of the artistic and narrative choices present in Angola Janga and Encruzilhada; b) explore how the interpretations and meanings deposited by the author in both productions challenge the predominant narratives about Afro-Brazilian history and experiences; and c) investigate how the works Encruzilhada and Angola Janga develop the categories of time and memory to illustrate Afro-Brazilian resistance and struggle. This research adopted a qualitative approach, using iconography and content analysis to explore the visual and narrative elements present in the works. In addition, an in-depth interview was conducted with the author Marcelo D'Salete. Overall, the research demonstrates that Encruzilhada (2016) and Angola Janga: Kingdom of Runaway Slaves (2017) constitute visual counter-narratives that reconfigure the representation of Afro-Brazilian experiences by moving black individuals from the historical condition of objects of violence to the position of agents of memory and resistance. Through aesthetic and narrative choices, D’Salete articulates the past and present, highlighting the continuities of the racist structures of Brazilian society and, at the same time, the strategies of black resistance.

    The presence of elemental impurities (EI) in medicines, such as heavy metals, represents a risk to human health due to their high toxicity even at low concentrations, and to ensure patient safety, it is essential to carry out a rigorous assessment of these contaminants. The international guideline ICH Q3D (International Council for Harmonisation Guideline Q3D: Guideline for Elemental Impurities) establishes PDE (Permitted Daily Exposure) limits based on toxicological data and the route of drug administration. In addition, chapters of the USP (United States Pharmacopeia) describe modern analytical techniques, such as ICP-MS (Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry) and ICP OES (Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry), which allow for the detection and quantification of these impurities with high sensitivity, constituting an effective quality control system. In view of the need to identify and control inorganic contaminants originating from raw materials, manufacturing processes, equipment, and packaging in the final product, this work aims to develop a safe and validated analytical method using ICP-MS, through AQbD (Analytical Quality by Design), for the determination of the 24 elemental impurities controlled by the guideline in injectable-matrix pharmaceuticals. To achieve this objective, the ATP (Analytical Target Profile) was defined as a method capable of quantifying IE in injectable solutions, with an average and individual recovery percentage between 70 and 150%, RSD ≤ 20%, discovery curve scanning coefficient ≥ 0.99, and a detection limit greater than 0.2 J μg/L. If the method is capable of quantifying the element at concentrations equal to or lower than 30% of “J”, it may, in some cases, even eliminate the need for continuous monitoring. Next, a cause-and-effect (Ishikawa) diagram was developed with the aim of identifying the potential critical method parameters of the analytical procedure. These parameters were subsequently classified according to their risk using the FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) tool, resulting in the selection of four experimental factors with the greatest potential impact on the analytical response: nebulizer gas flow (L/min), plasma power (W), acidity of the diluent solution (% HNO₃), and sample dilution factor. These factors were evaluated at three coded levels (–1, 0, +1), following an experimental design based on a CCD (Central Composite Design), implemented using the statistical software Minitab. The study generated a total of 155 experiments, aiming to model and understand variations in the analytical response resulting from intentional changes in the selected parameters. This approach sought to define the method’s MODR (Method Operable Design Region), within which analytical performance meets the criteria established in the ATP, ensuring robustness, precision, and reliability throughout the method’s lifecycle. The results obtained showed recovery values consistent with the applied spiking levels, falling close to the upper limit of the specification range (100%). Given the robustness, consistency, and analytical performance observed, it was concluded that the parameters defined in the DoE (Design of Experiments) are suitable for adoption as the definitive method, both for constructing analytical calibration curves and for sample preparation, ensuring reliability and reproducibility in subsequent processes.

    This research investigates how neoconservative female parliamentarians re-elected in 2022 update their agenda in the digital environment regarding themes related to gender equity following the defeat of President Jair Messias Bolsonaro. The general objective of the study is to analyze how these women instrumentalize female identity as a strategic resource to promote neoconservative political views and delegitimize gender equity policies. To this end, the Instagram profiles of Congresswomen Bia Kicis and Carla Zambelli, both from the Liberal Party (PL), are analyzed during the 2023-2024 biennium. The methodology is anchored in Computational Social Science, employing Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques, social network analysis, and multimodal qualitative analysis. The results indicate that, contrary to the cooling-off hypothesis, the patriotic and nationalist agenda remains central, strategically merging with family and religion agendas. A division of discursive labor is observed: while Carla Zambelli mobilizes engagement through political and affective maternalism, Bia Kicis operates a strategic legalism to contest democratic institutions. It is concluded that the digital mandate of these parliamentarians instrumentalizes "womanhood" and moral panic as tools for base cohesion and the maintenance of gender hierarchies, adapting resiliently to the opposition context.

    This research aims to investigate and understand anxiety in the face of death in light of Freudian psychoanalytic theory, especially in conjunction with the formulations of the second theory of anxiety. It also seeks to understand how cultural structures mobilize to attribute meaning and manage this type of anxiety. To carry out the investigation, a historical overview of the subject's relationship with death in the West was constructed, as well as an analysis of the development of the notion of anxiety in the face of death in Freud's work. Next, the main metapsychological concepts related to it were explored in depth, namely: anxiety, helplessness, castration anxiety, anxiety in the face of the superego, and the constitution of the superego. The relationship between religion and death is also discussed, examining the origin of religious conceptions based on the experience of helplessness and nostalgia for the father figure, and the relationship between science and anxiety in the face of death, exploring the articulation between the death drive and the destruction drive and the role of science in enhancing the destruction of others through the development of military technologies. It is proposed that anxiety in the face of death is not reduced to an instinctive fear of biological extinction, but articulates psychic dimensions related to helplessness, loss of protection, and the instances that sustain the subject.

    Parental burnout is a condition of physical, mental, and emotional exhaustion associated with chronic stress related to parenting responsibilities. Factors such as low social support, coparenting conflicts, and underdeveloped socioemotional skills appear to contribute to its development. This study investigated the relationship between parental, coparental, and marital skills and symptoms of parental burnout, as well as the effects of programs and materials focused on parenting and coparenting. A total of 247 mothers and fathers who had or had not participated in programs or accessed materials on these topics took part in the study. Instruments assessing parental burnout, coparenting relationship, parenting styles, and marital social skills were administered. In addition, 40 participants completed semi-structured interviews about coparenting and parental well-being. The results showed that coparental support and expressiveness and empathy skills predicted lower parental burnout scores. In contrast, coparental conflict, inconsistent punishment, lax discipline, physical abuse, and, surprisingly, assertive conversational skills and proactive self-control predicted higher burnout scores. Differences were also observed in coparenting relationship quality, marital social skills, and parental burnout symptoms between parents who had or had not participated in interventions and accessed parenting-related materials. The interviews highlighted the importance of the coparenting relationship for parental well-being. Despite limitations related to the sample and the diversity of the analyzed programs, the findings suggest that interventions aimed at strengthening coparental, parental, and marital skills may act as protective factors against parental burnout.

    The Lattes Platform has established itself as a fundamental database for the production of Science and Technology indicators in the Brazilian context. Aiming to analyze academic inbreeding in the scientific co-authorships of researchers at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), this research developed an integrated computational procedure capable of coordinating different technologies for the extraction, treatment, processing, and visualization of bibliometric data. The methodology involved automated data collection from the Lattes Platform, metadata treatment through Python scripts, mapping of scientific co-authorship networks using a Java application, and the generation of visualizations with geolocation features. The analyzed dataset comprises 86,341 co-authorship records in full journal articles up to the year 2024, corresponding to 24,612 unique productions, involving 664 researchers from UFSCar – São Carlos Campus accredited in graduate programs, and 7,322 co-authors with professional addresses registered in the Lattes Curriculum. The results confirm the research hypothesis by showing that the developed procedure made explicit the collaboration relationships that are hidden in the standard interface of the Lattes Platform. Evidence indicates a predominance of non-inbred co-authorships and heterogeneity in inbreeding levels according to the unit of analysis, in addition to showing no linear associations between inbreeding and geographical distance. The research demonstrates the effectiveness of the computational procedure for the empirical diagnosis of academic inbreeding and highlights the potential of visualizations for analyzing the dynamics of scientific collaboration from an architectural and interdisciplinary perspective.

    The exponential increase in data volume and the dynamic nature of computer networks have imposed significant challenges on information security. In this context, classification in Continuous Data Streams (CDS) becomes essential, especially for Network Security Systems (NSS). These applications require techniques that handle memory constraints, processing time, and non-stationary data. This work proposes an adaptation of the Growing Self-Organizing Map (GSOM) for classifying firewall logs in CDS. The GSOM architecture was considered suitable, as it adjusts neuron weights to follow the gradual evolution of patterns and expands its structure to represent new behaviors as they emerge. For evaluation, real data from an operational firewall was used, classified into the actions “Allow”, “Deny”, “Reset-Both”, or “Drop”. The experiments followed an approach with offline (initial training) and online phases, where three update strategies were proposed: (1) nearest winner neuron location, keeping the map fixed; (2) dynamic map expansion, adding new neurons to represent emerging patterns; and (3) refinement of existing neuron weights, adjusting the map without altering its structure. The performance of the GSOM was evaluated in four temporal scenarios, including a combined scenario, and compared with established methods such as Incremental SVM and Adaptive Random Forest (ARF). The comparison established an upper bound of performance for the ideal scenario of zerolabel latency. Although ARF demonstrated overall superiority, its high computational cost and dependence on immediate labeling limit its practical application. It is concluded that GSOM is a viable solution for real-world classification in CDS with infinite label latency, where complete supervision is operationally unfeasible.

    The increasing use of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) mulching films in agriculture has contributed to rising microplastic contamination in soils, raising concerns about their ecotoxicological effects and their interactions with pesticides. In this study, we investigated four LDPE films with different formulations and degradation levels and found that UV-C photodegradation altered their structural and chemical properties in distinct ways, thereby modifying their sorption capacity. Notably, the degraded silver film showed the highest removal of the fungicide tebuconazole from solution and proved to be the most susceptible to degradation under the conditions tested. In addition, we observed that the incorporation of pristine and degraded microplastics into the soil influenced the early development of cherry tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.), promoting significant changes in biomass allocation patterns (SLA, SMF, RSR, and LMR), although total growth parameters were not consistently affected. Our findings indicate that, beyond polymer type, formulation and degradation level are key factors governing microplastic–plant interactions. By integrating degradation dynamics, sorption processes, and biological effects, this study advances the understanding of the complexity of these interactions in the environment and highlights the importance of considering chemical diversity and plastic aging in ecotoxicological assessments and environmental modeling.

    This thesis investigates anti-Black racial bias as symbolic responding organized by social, cultural, and historical contingencies, proposing an integrated research agenda that combines conceptual analysis, evaluation of explicit and implicit measures, and experimental intervention studies. Chapter 1 presents the theoretical framework, defining racial prejudice as relational responding and discussing conceptual and methodological challenges in its measurement and modification. Chapter 2 provides a critical review of empirical research on anti-Black racial bias within Behavior Analysis, identifying gaps that guide the subsequent experimental studies. Chapter 3 focuses on the evaluation of racial bias measures. Study 2, conducted with children aged 8 to 10 years, examined the temporal stability of an explicit valence measure (Likert scale) and the Function Acquisition Speed Test (FAST), an implicit measure, using a repeated-measures design, demonstrating high stability and sensitivity of the FAST to anti-Black racial bias. Study 3, also with children aged 8 to 10 years, employed a multimodal analysis of racial prejudice, identifying a substantial gender effect characterized by the devaluation of Black women, as well as contextual variation in social preference, indicating contextual control of relational responding. Chapter 4 presents intervention studies with children based on the stimulus equivalence paradigm. Study 4, with children aged 8 to 10 years, replicated procedures described by Mizael et al. (2016, 2022), demonstrating the formation of equivalence classes between Black faces and positive stimuli, with reductions in negative relations and valence differences, albeit with limited generalization and social desirability effects. Study 5, with 6-year-old children, showed greater convergence across measures and partial generalization, though without stable maintenance for all participants. In Study 6, using word-based equivalence procedures and longitudinal follow-up, produced more robust generalization effects and evidence of social validity, although changes occurred gradually and heterogeneously, with varying patterns of relational flexibility and resistance to change. A common finding across Experiments 3, 4, and 6 was that the absence of equivalence class formation was associated with the absence of change in racial bias measures. Chapter 5 presents adult study. Study 7, conducted with 116 White Irish adults, evaluated the effects of different FAST-based training configurations on implicit and explicit measures, including a shooter task based on the Police Officer’s Dilemma Task, the Modern Racism Scale, and facial valence ratings. The stereotype-consistent condition exacerbated bias relative to the control condition, whereas the counter-stereotypical and flexibility conditions produced mitigating effects, with the former being the most effective. Overall, this dissertation contributes to a systematic research agenda on anti-Black racial bias, demonstrating that behavioral procedures can reorganize previously established classes while also delineating the possibilities and limits of modifying racial relational control across development and adulthood.

    The Myrtaceae family stands out for its high diversity and ecological importance in the Cerrado, especially the genus Eugenia, which comprises numerous species with ecological significance and economic potential. Eugenia velutifolia Mazine & Sobral is a recently described species (2019), endemic to the São Paulo Cerrado and critically endangered, lacking information regarding its reproductive biology. This study aimed to expand morphological and taxonomic data, re-evaluate its conservation status, and evaluate the species' germination capacity. Fruits were collected in a Cerrado area located in the municipality of Salto de Pirapora (SP), and the collected material (voucher) was deposited in the SORO herbarium at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), Sorocaba campus. Morphological analyses were based on fieldcollected material and herbarium specimens. The germination test was conducted at the Seedling and Seed Laboratory (LaSem) at UFSCar. The morphological description of E. velutifolia was expanded to include data regarding the bracts, bracteoles, underground system and, primarily, the fruits and seeds, which had been unknown since its original description. The fruits are predominantly rounded, measuring 3.9–13.2 × 4.05–11.7 mm, monospermic, with coloration ranging from yellow to dark purple. The seeds measure 2.95–10.7 × 2,.5–10.5 mm, are light brown, and possess an eugenioid embryo. Germination in E. velutifolia is hypogeal, starting approximately 30 days after sowing. The average germination time is 37 days, the germination success rate was 50.42%, and the germination speed index was 1.97, with variation among parent trees. Seedlings develop over a period of 75 days, which is unusual compared to other species of the genus that exhibit faster development. The endemism and anthropogenic pressure highlight the need for proper management, including propagations protocols, as well as the development of future actions for ex situ conservation to ensure the species' survival.
