    This thesis addresses the challenges of Automated Machine Learning (AutoML) for Natural Language Processing (NLP) tasks, emphasizing the creation of models and facilitating the analysis, visualization, and interpretability of the results. Leveraging concepts from AutoML, the study explores meta-learning and hyperparameter optimization to develop a flexible and transparent approach – aiming to streamline the NLP pipeline and accommodate users with varying levels of expertise, from beginners to experts. As part of the contributions, it was developed MetaText-ClassifAI, an end-to-end AutoML framework for text classification that integrates data characterization, vectorization optimization, meta-learning, and automatic pipeline recommendation, achieving state-of-thepractice performance while reducing computational cost, execution time, and environmental impact, maintaining transparency and interpretability in the recommendation process. Furthermore, the work contributes with a analysis of the use of Large Language Models (LLMs) in NLP tasks, demonstrating that, although these models are effective for automating tasks such as exploratory data analysis, traditional statistical methods can still outperform modern LLM-based approaches in specific scenarios, achieving competitive performance with lower computational cost and greater efficiency.

    Low-carbon hydrogen production presents itself as a promising advance in the quest for clean and sustainable energy sources, driving the global energy transition. More than just an alternative, this energy vector has the potential to significantly reshape the current energy landscape. In this context, titanium dioxide (TiO2) emerges as a prominent photoactive material for hydrogen production, due to its ability to catalyze the occurrrence of water electrolysis reaction under light irradiation, establishing it as one of the most promising and investigated materials in the field. This work aims to revisit and analyze the advantages and challenges inherent to the use of TiO2 in this context, as well as to explore the various factors that influence its efficiency and potential.

    The Atlantic Forest is an important biodiversity hotspot and is embedded within an increasingly anthropized matrix. Recognizing the effects of anthropogenic pressure on species diversity patterns may be a way to identify potential threats and contribute to the direction of conservation actions. Species diversity within a community can be quantified through different approaches, including functional diversity, which corresponds to the roles performed by species within the ecosystem. In this study, we analyzed the variation in the functional diversity of stream fish as a function of anthropogenic pressure exerted on fish communities inhabiting streams distributed along an anthropization gradient in the Sorocaba River basin, in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. To achieve this, functional diversity indices were calculated based on morphometric and trophic measurements of stream fish collected over a six-year period. Anthropogenic pressure was quantified using an Anthropogenic Pressure Index (API), calculated according to land use and land cover in the study area at two spatial scales: buffer and sub-basin. The data obtained were then subjected to linear regression analysis to test the correlation between functional diversity and anthropization. The structure of fish assemblages was analyzed in 45 stream reaches, totaling 40 species from 14 families. A high taxonomic dominance of a few generalist species was observed, especially Phalloceros reisi (FO = 0.82) and Poecilia reticulata, which together with the family Characidae accounted for more than 70% of total abundance. Local richness ranged from 1 to 13 species (S̅ = 5.91), with an average Shannon diversity of 1.09 nats/ind., reflecting simplified and numerically dominated communities. Ecomorphological characterization indicated that locomotion is the main axis of functional differentiation, whereas feeding traits showed lower variation. The trophic structure revealed the importance of autochthonous resources, with 60% of the species classified as benthic invertivores and 37.5% as omnivores. The functional space, constructed from four axes (78.26% of explained variance), demonstrated that functional richness (FRic) is maintained through the complementarity of multiple lineages (Characiformes, Siluriformes, Synbranchiformes, Gymnotiformes, and Cyprinodontiformes), highlighting that functionally unique taxa are fundamental to niche volume regardless of their abundance. Analysis of anthropogenic pressure (API) revealed that urbanization reaches critical levels (>84%) in degraded stream reaches. The relationship between API and functional diversity (FDis) proved to be scale-dependent: at the buffer scale, the relationship was non-significant, whereas at the sub-basin scale, a significant quadratic pattern (“inverted U-shape”, R² = 16.1%) was observed. This result indicates that functional diversity responds to urbanization thresholds, undergoing severe contractions only after surpassing a critical level of stress within the watershed. It is concluded that land use and land cover at the sub-basin scale act as the predominant environmental filter, and that maintaining functional integrity depends on management strategies that consider land use at this scale.

    Brazilian citrus production is of great economic importance, as the country is the world's largest producer of oranges and the leading exporter of orange juice. The development and evaluation of new Navel orange-type cultivars are important strategies to expand diversification and meet consumer market demands. This study aimed to evaluate the physicochemical characteristics, sensory acceptance, and purchase intention of new Navel orange-type varieties intended for fresh consumption, in order to identify promising materials regarding fruit quality and market acceptance potential. The fruits were obtained from the breeding program of the Sylvio Moreira Citrus Center/IAC and were evaluated for physicochemical characteristics, sensory attributes, and purchase intention by 50 untrained panelists. Data were subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA), Tukey's test at the 5% significance level, and Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The results demonstrated that the evaluated Navel orange-type varieties exhibited physicochemical characteristics suitable for fresh consumption. Attributes related to fruit appearance, aroma, and flavor contributed to the differentiation among varieties and influenced the evaluators' perception of quality. Among the materials studied, the IAC 22 variety stood out in terms of purchase intention, indicating strong potential for commercial acceptance. Therefore, the evaluated varieties represent promising alternatives for diversifying the supply of oranges for the fresh fruit market.

    At the Psychosocial Care Centers (CAPS)—strategic components of the Psychosocial Care Network (RAPS) in Brazil—the provision of mental health care does not occur in isolation but is deeply embedded in the local community. This local context is not merely the setting for the social determinants of health, but a living field of interactions where daily care and engagement emerge from the dynamic, situated encounter between the force of structural inequalities and the survival strategies of individuals within their real-life contexts. This study sought to understand the occupational experiences of people who receive care at a CAPS AD and live in contexts of extreme vulnerability in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro. Theoretically, it integrates the transactional perspective on occupation based on John Dewey’s pragmatism with Anna Tsing’s ecological anthropology, exploring precariousness as an inherent dimension of human existence and as a condition of late capitalism that forces people to “live among the ruins,” thereby stimulating the emergence of ecologies and vital arrangements where there are no promises of a guaranteed future. It is characterized as qualitative research with an ethnographic approach, with fieldwork conducted between March and August 2024. The empirical data were collected through field notes, semi-structured interviews, and focus group discussions. The analysis involved organizing, coding, and categorizing the data, relating the observed scenes to the socio-spatial context and the study’s analytical framework. The empirical findings reveal the complexity of care and the occupational experiences woven into a territory marked by socio environmental degradation, a lack of urban infrastructure, and violence. The ethnography shows that health care provision at the service is guided by the ethics of harm reduction, shifting the focus from substance use to meeting fundamental human needs, which are expressed through occupational experiences. In the face of the destabilization of daily life, CAPS AD functions as an anchor and vital source of support, where users engage with their own existence by accessing meals, workshops, and other activities that expand opportunities for social participation. The study reveals that occupational experiences emerge as practical arrangements for survival and the invention of daily life amid the city’s ruins. Actions viewed as ordinary or mundane—such as negotiating a night’s rest under a bank’s awning, improvising shelters from the rain, collecting recyclable materials, walking to the beach, wandering through the neighborhood, or hosting poetry readings in the square—constitute adaptive responses and vital arrangements in contexts of degradation. It follows that viewing these occupations as transactional and situated experiences implies recognizing that the subjects themselves are situated and bear the marks of inequality on their body-territories, yet they are not passively reduced to them. In devastated territories, occupations serve as mechanisms for shaping worlds and sustaining existence. This research contributes to Occupational Science, Occupational Therapy, and Public Health by demonstrating that, in the face of the barrenness of daily life, “keeping oneself occupied” goes beyond individual functional adaptation, revealing itself as an act of persistence and political resistance in creating the conditions to continue existing and to claim the fundamental right to live—and to live well.
