This Undergraduate Final Project presents a critical-reflective narrative on the author’s personal and academic journey throughout the Medical Program at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), from 2021 to 2026. The narrative initially addresses the personal experiences that influenced the decision to pursue Medicine and the path leading to university admission. It then reflects on the three stages of medical education—basic sciences, clinical training, and medical internship—highlighting learning experiences, practical activities, challenges, and relevant aspects of professional development. The work also describes complementary curricular and extracurricular activities undertaken during medical school, including clinical rotations in different medical specialties and participation in an undergraduate research project. Throughout this journey, the narrative highlights the progressive development of autonomy, clinical reasoning, and patient-care skills, emphasizing the importance of patient interaction, attentive listening, and human relationships in shaping professional identity. Finally, reflecting on these experiences provides an opportunity to recognize the personal and professional transformations that occurred throughout medical school and to understand medical education as a continuous process of learning, growth, and professional development.

Positive-Unlabeled Learning is a special case of semi-supervised learning in which only a few examples of the positive class are labeled, while the rest remain unlabeled, comprising both positive and negative instances. The two-step strategy, widely adopted in the literature, consists of extracting a subset of reliable negative examples from the unlabeled data and subsequently training a classifier based on them. This work proposes a modular framework based on density-based hierarchical clustering for the extraction of reliable negatives and for a novel transductive semi-supervised classification strategy. The approach is founded on the exploration of the data's topological structure and on density-based probability estimates. To extend the method to data represented as graphs, the strategy is combined with latent representation learning techniques. An adaptation focused on topology preservation is proposed for scenarios where connected nodes tend to be similar (homophily), alongside a novel spatially guided metric learning architecture, developed in this work for networks where connections between distinct classes are predominant (heterophily). The experimental validation encompassed several datasets, contrasting the method with recent state-of-the-art approaches. The findings corroborate the premise that density in the latent space is a strong indicator of class separability in the absence of negative labels, ensuring the proposed approach achieves competitive, and sometimes superior, performance in both negative extraction and classification across tabular data and homophilic graphs. The scenario proves more challenging in strongly heterophilic networks, where the developed model preserves a good capacity for negative extraction but encounters limitations regarding the complexity of semi-supervised propagation during the final classification. This dynamics in complex graphs, coupled with the model's sensitivity to structural parameters, outlines the current application limits of the framework and points to natural directions for future work.

The work consists of a descriptive-reflective report, with a qualitative approach and autobiographical nature, in which I recount my journey over six years in the Medicine course at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar). Based on autobiographical reflections built from my academic portfolio — the main tool for recording and evaluation established in the Political-Pedagogical Project (PPP) of the course — I present the main difficulties I faced during my training and how I managed them, organized into four cycles: the period before entering Medicine, the basic cycle, the clinical cycle, and the internship. Grief is the central thread of the narrative, since experiencing grief in childhood, following the death of my mother, is one of the main reasons I chose the medical profession. To complement the proposed reflective framework, I conducted a brief literature review on grief in adults and children, articulating my personal experience with theoretical references on the subject. Throughout the essay, I also discuss the collective grief experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic, my participation in extension and scientific initiation projects focused on mental health and grief in healthcare professionals, and the challenges of facing death and illness during clinical practice and internship. I conclude that writing this essay allowed me to integrate the personal and professional aspects of my medical training, highlighting grief as a central experience both in my choice of profession and in developing more sensitive and humanized care for patients and their families.

This undergraduate thesis presents a reflective narrative of the author's academic and personal journey, detailing his transition from Aeronautical Engineering to the medical degree program at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar). The introduction explores the crisis of purpose he experienced while working in the aeronautical industry, which prompted him to change careers in pursuit of work focused on caring for others. The reflection is structured around the three major phases of medical school. The first phase describes his adaptation to the Constructivist Spiral active learning methodology, based on Problem-Based Learning (PBL), and his initial exposure to Primary Health Care within Brazil's Unified Health System (SUS), highlighting his practical understanding of the social determinants of health. The second phase emphasizes the development of outpatient clinical reasoning, the challenges of translating theoretical knowledge into the unpredictable realities of physical examination, and a practical understanding of longitudinal care. The third phase describes his immersion in clinical clerkships, during which he experienced increasing autonomy, confronted dilemmas and uncertainties at the bedside, recognized the essential role of teamwork, and solidified his decision to pursue a specialization in Pediatrics. Finally, the thesis highlights the profound impact of extracurricular activities on medical education, particularly participation in sports teams and management boards of the Moacir Peixoto Júnior Academic Athletic Association (AAAMPJ). It concludes that engagement in experiences beyond the formal curriculum was essential to developing skills such as resilience, leadership, and interpersonal sensitivity. These experiences enabled the author to combine excellence and technical rigor with the empathy required to provide comprehensive care to his future patients.

This Final Undergraduate Project presents a reflective narrative of the author’s medical education at the Federal University of São Carlos, drawing on a collection of experiences that were particularly meaningful throughout six years of undergraduate medical training. Rather than focusing solely on the theoretical and practical knowledge acquired during this period, the narrative also explores the sociocultural dimensions of medical education, which played a fundamental role in shaping the physician the author has become. The narrative is grounded in the understanding that professional development extends beyond the acquisition of technical knowledge. Medical training is also shaped by social relationships, participation in a culturally diverse university community, interactions with patients, the understanding of illness as a biopsychosocial process, and engagement in scientific research. Among the experiences discussed are home visits carried out during the early years of medical school, the first deaths encountered during clinical training, experiences accompanying patients and families through the process of terminal illness, and the author’s own experience of illness within his family. The narrative also addresses extracurricular activities, particularly the challenges and experiences involved in undergraduate scientific research, as well as the sociocultural background and personal growth fostered through participation in student organizations. Throughout these experiences, the author reflects on the transformations that occurred over the course of these six years, particularly in his understanding of patient care, the boundaries of medical practice, communication with patients and their families, and the critical interpretation and application of scientific evidence. In this sense, the narrative seeks to demonstrate how medical education extends beyond the classroom and clinical setting, encompassing personal, social, cultural, and scientific experiences that collectively contribute to the development of a physician’s identity and approach to care.

The National Curriculum Guidelines for Undergraduate Medical Courses emphasize the need for generalist, humanized, critical, and reflective training, aligned with the principles of the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS). This study presents a reflective narrative and a grounded experience report on the experiences developed within the Education Program through Work for Health (PET-Health) during medical school at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar). The study encompasses participation in two consecutive editions of the program: PET-Health Equities (2025), focused on conducting Culture Circles with educators in a school environment, and PET-Health Climate (2026), aimed at a playful approach to sustainability and ecosystems with children aged 4 to 6 years in a Municipal Early Childhood Education Center (CEMEI). The primary objective is to analyze how participation in PET-Health and the practice of light and interprofessional technologies influenced the construction of medical identity and the reorientation of professional practice. The methodological approach was based on the systematization of field journals and training narratives, articulated with theoretical frameworks of Interprofessional Education, Collective Health, Paulo Freire's Critical Pedagogy, and the concept of One Health. The study demonstrates that teaching-service-community integration and interprofessional collaborative work are powerful mechanisms for overcoming the traditional hospital-centered and prescriptive biomedical model. The transition from listening to adults to using playful children's language in the school environment fostered sensitive communication skills, a broader perception of Social and Environmental Determinants of Health, and the strengthening of the future physician's ethical and social commitment to comprehensiveness and equity within the SUS.

The citrus industry is one of the main activities of Brazilian agribusiness, playing an essential role in generating income, employment, and foreign exchange for the country. This study aimed to analyze the technical and legal aspects involved in the production of citrus nursery plants, as well as to discuss the perspectives and challenges of the Brazilian citrus sector, in order to inform production practices that ensure phytosanitary quality and sector sustainability. Through an integrative literature review, information was gathered from scientific publications, legislation, and technical reports issued by institutions such as MAPA, Embrapa, and Fundecitrus. It was observed that the mandatory use of screened nurseries for citrus seedling production initially established in the state of São Paulo and later extended Nationwide represented a milestone in the modernization of the sector, reducing the spread of diseases such as Citrus Variegated Chlorosis (CVC) and huanglongbing (HLB). The importance of using certified mother plants, implementing sanitary indexing, and applying improved grafting techniques and protected-environment management was also verified. The adoption of rootstocks such as citrandarins and Swingle citrumelo has contributed to greater disease resistance and better adaptation to different edaphoclimatic conditions. Furthermore, the expansion of citrus cultivation into new regions such as Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul, Bahia, and Paraná reflects not only the search for areas with lower HLB incidence but also economic and structural factors that influence the productive reorganization of the sector. It is concluded that the integration of technology, legislation, and sustainable management is fundamental to ensuring seedling health, competitiveness, and the long-term sustainability of the Brazilian citrus industry.

In Brazil, the study of bovine longevity is extremely important due to the country’s position in the export and production of this sector and, for this reason, there is a strong interest in achieving maximum profitability in this activity. The economic longevity of cows is totally related to reproductive performance, with the trait known as the age of the cow at last calving (ACLC) being a very important variable in this context. Since this variable cannot always be perfectly measured in some scenarios, a censoring criterion is generally applied to this characteristic, which is based on the difference between the date of the cow’s last observed calving and the date of the last calving on the farm. If this difference is greater than or equal to 36 months, the cow failed, as she has gone too long without calving and will be discarded. Otherwise, the cow is still considered reproductive and her age at last calving is censored, since there is still a possibility of her having another pregnancy. Therefore, one of the objectives of this study is to genetically analyze the IVUP variable using frailty models applied to survival analysis. The use of this type of model is justified by the inclusion of random effects, allowing the prediction of genetic factors associated with each animal and also considering associations between them. Another objective of the study is to identify genetic variables that influence bovine longevity, and this will be done through a Genome-Wide Association Study (GWAS). The analysis is done using a sample of 862 cows, daughters of 47 different bulls. For confidentiality reasons, the origin of the data is kept secret.
