Abstract
The concept of "Industry 4.0" or "Fourth Industrial Revolution" is recent and has been discussing the use of different technologies for the development of smart factories. The concepts associated with Process Safety have existed for a long time, therefore, the advent of Industry 4.0 brings opportunities for improvement in general process safety. The study was developed in the form of a literature review regarding recent publications on Process Safety in Industry 4.0, as well as main concepts, advances and challenges to be overcome. From the review carried out, a framework for Process Safety in Industry 4.0 was proposed, which presents the eight main pillars of action, sets of technologies and structuring methodologies,
and major challenges to be overcome. Finally, the work consolidates the main areas of study related to Process Safety in Industry 4.0 and can be used in the future as a reference for in-depth studies on practical applications and interconnection between them.
