Integração ao mercado, autoconsumo e segurança alimentar: uma análise dos agricultores familiares no município de Campina do Monte Alegre – SP
Abstract
Food insecurity has been an alarming issue for many years, being the focus of several studies in different countries. As a way of contributing to this theme, this work started from the hypothesis that integration to markets and a higher level of self-consumption are associated with food security for family farmers, with the municipality of Campina do Monte Alegre, in the State of São Paulo as an empirical universe. Paulo. The Market Integration Index - IIM was used as a methodological tool, whose purpose is to estimate the fractions of production destined for self-consumption or delivered to a market by the farmer. The IIM was contrasted with the Brazilian Food Insecurity Scale - EBIA, by rural household, and in an accessory way related to other socioeconomic variables that potentially influence the level of food security. Evidence was found that integration into markets provides less probability of food insecurity for farmers in the surveyed region.
