Abstract

This study aims to contribute to the understanding of the study activity of female university students at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), investigating their forms of organization and the meanings produced throughout their academic trajectories. The research recognizes the student as a socially and culturally active subject, whose socio-historical experiences and activities concurrent with studying shape her Social Situation of Development. The discussion encompasses gender inequality within higher education and draws parallels with emancipatory educational practices aimed at social transformation. Methodologically, semi-structured interviews were conducted with undergraduate students from various programs, focusing on Indigenous women, Black and Pardo women, mothers, and LBT+ individuals. The study is grounded in Historical-Cultural Theory, articulating concepts such as study activity, gender, labor, and mediation. The analysis reveals the impacts of material contradictions on the lives of these university women, highlighting difficulties such as the absence of support networks and the confrontation of stereotypes. The results demonstrate that student persistence is mediated by affirmative policies and collective networks, evidencing the need for specific educational policies focused on gender equality and the recognition of female pluralities within the academic environment
