Entre o teórico e o prático: uma reflexão sobre a profissão linguista na história e nas vozes de egressos da UFSCar

Abstract

This Final Project (TCC) investigates the complex professional identity of linguists in Brazil, based on the premise that linguistic knowledge is a social and historical construction, not a neutral given. Based on studies intertwined between the theoretical and methodological fields of Discourse Analysis (Pêcheux, 2010; Orlandi, 2007; Mariani, 2016) and the History of Linguistic Ideas (Auroux, 2001; Orlandi, 2001; Scherer, 2005; Ferreira, 2009; Dias, 2012), the work recognizes that the grammatization of languages and colonial and state contexts generated interventions that shaped the production of this knowledge in certain institutions. Based on this research on the history of Linguistics in Brazil and the production of meanings within the linguistics profession, this final project focuses on a study of graduates of the Bachelor's degree in Linguistics from UFSCar. The work represents a continuation and deepening of previous phases of scientific initiation research (PIBIC and FAPESP). The main objective is to analyze the meanings attributed to the linguistics profession by these recent graduates. To this end, a questionnaire with open-ended questions was used, allowing for the establishment of insights into the statements of these individuals, essential for understanding their positions. In terms of contribution, the results aim to enrich the understanding of the meanings of the linguistics profession in Brazil. Furthermore, they seek to open a space for reflection and discussion on the complex relationship between language, linguistics, profession, and training. In a broader context, the research aims to contribute to the production of an encyclopedia of professions in language sciences, which would serve as an archive of texts on professions in social and historical circulation, investing qualitatively in the training of young and future professionals capable of understanding the functioning of language in the processes of signification and the constitution of subjects in their relationships.
