These techniques and strategies have been adopted so as to develop a Document Manipulation System based on Semantic Information. Previously established values of similarity and relevance are used in the document retrieval process.. The organization of semantic information, user interfaces, manipulation of imprecise information and the extraction and retrieval mechanism are discussed. The impreciseness in the semantic information is treated through similarity values in order to compare the query´spredicates with the database results. Relevance values specified for the query´s predicates have been used to classify the resulting documents. A prototype of the system has been developed. This prototype can be incorporated into the AMMO environment (Authoring and Manipulation of Multimedia Objects), whose aim is to provide resources for creating, storing and manipulating multimedia applications.Item type:Item, Representações sociais e meio ambiente: participação de um grupo de mulheres no planejamento de uma intervenção de educação ambiental popular urbana em Manaus, Amazonas(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2003-08-25) ;Storey, Christine ;Oliveira, Haydée Torres dehttps://lattes.cnpq.br/5458113597909705The central argument of this thesis is to promote the importance of observing peoples’ understanding of their environment in order to develop a popular environmental education programme with rather than for them, one that fosters participatory solidarity. As such, ecofeminismo and the theory of social representations have been explored as possible theories and practices to assist environmental educators in this task. This has been approached in three articles the first of which is about the theory and practice of ecofeminismo as possible directions for environmental education. As ecofeminism offers elements to understand the complex power interrelations and the increasing environmental inequalities that exist in contemporary society. Furthermore it proposes the deconstruction of the dualities that permeate our society and feed such inequalities. In the same direction, in the second article we present a research paper that applied the theory of social representations to assist in interpreting of the lifestyles, perceived needs and environmental activities, with a group of 10 urban women from Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil. The interpretation of the environmental social representations revealed some of the women's environmental practices and understanding, and that religion, situation, media, identity and cultural heritage are five mediators that influence the production of such representations. The results offered important information on the participants' theoretical frameworks; the final task was to verify if such data would assist in planning a popular environmental education intervention. The third article is a report on such a verification, which occurred during a workshop with a larger number of residents from the same neighbourhood. In which three themes detected in the research results were presented to the participants for them to choose one for the educational intervention. Handicrafts were selected and the intervention is at the present moment in full activity. This confirms, that although the theory of social representations cannot solve all the difficulties that environmental education faces in an unsustainable society; it can, assist in understanding people better and from this promote the construction of solidarity. The expected outcome is that the three papers bring elements to be debated within environmental education. Also that the group the women formed will flourish permitting them to grow together.Item type:Item, Uma estrutura de suporte para adaptação em jogos 3D multiusuário(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2003-08-26) ;Silva, Alessandro Rodrigues e ;Araujo, Regina Borges de ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/8964123297688432https://lattes.cnpq.br/6278694958208888With the growing dissemination and reliability of wireless networks and the emergence of devices with more and more processing and communication power, applications up to now restricted to PCs are being envisaged to run on devices as heterogeneous as wrist clocks with GPS locators, refrigerators with internet access, up to mobile phones, PDAs, settop- boxes and game consoles. The integration of this myriad of devices and network technologies, with different capabilities, demand special attention from the software programmers and designers specially when these applications are shared among multiple users from different devices, each one producing and consuming information according to each device capacity. In this sense, application adaptation, which allows a software to react upon the resources variations used, is an important process towards fitting the application to a certain device configuration. This adaptation is being considered as an important part of the systems that act upon heterogeneous processing and communication environment. Therefore, a large amount of work has been done in the traditional multimedia adaptation, such as text, images, audio and video, less attention has been focused on 3D digital content first because of the complexity involved in the 3D applications adaptation issues, and also because true marketing opportunities for 3D graphics in heterogeneous devices have just began to emerge. Moreover, initiatives that promote adaptation standardization must be considered, so that interoperability among adaptation mechanisms can become a reality. This work investigated the MPEG-4 standard and its extension MPEG-J to handle adaptation issues, and proposes an adaptation framework for 3D multi-user game applications, entitle MMGAME. With this framework, elements composing a game application can be adapted according to devices resources variations where the application is running as well as in the network where is connected.Item type:Item, Estudo de caso sobre gestão da qualidade em uma empresa de serviços de telefonia fixa.(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2003-08-26) ;Ricci, Marlucy Godoy ;Toledo, José Carlos de ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/9421627326330417https://lattes.cnpq.br/9668886542467621The privatization of Telebras opened the national telephone market to competition, strengthening the importance of employing a management program having quality as a competitive advantage. Quality management as competitive strategy is an innovation in a sector that is no longer characterized by a monopoly market structure without competition. This study aims mainly at presenting the current quality management of a fixed line phone company. In this study, organizational structure for quality, a quality management program used by the studied company, methodologies and tools utilized, indicators of quality performance and improvement actions are presented and analyzed. A case study methodology was used. From the case study it can be concluded that in a telephone company quality management is directed at enhancing its competitive capacity the way it occurs in markets that face tough competition. The quality of fixed line phone service is differentiated depending on the kind of consumers, who are classified according to the amount of service utilized, since it is a private company, and therefore, seeks profit. In general, quality goals demanded by The National Telecommunications Agency have been met by the company, which confirms some foreseen trends after the privatization of the sector, at least in the area the company serves. This work realizes the recognition of facial attributes previously established: right eye, left eye, nose and lip, using an alternative implementation of Neocognitron Neural Network, robust for distortions and shifts on input patterns. The implementation of the neural network (NEOFAR - Neocognitron for Facial Attributes Recognition), consists of two sub-networks: Neural Network for Detecting of Control Points (NNDCP), which is used for edge detection, line detection, and line end detection, during the training phase; and Neural Network for Facial Recognition (NNFR), which is used for complex features manipulation, during the recognition phase. The performance evaluation showed the viability of project for many applications with excellent future perspectives. The performance tests showed rightness taxes over 85%.Item type:Item, Ensinando e aprendendo geometria: uma experiência com o software Cabri-Géomètre II na 5a série do ensino fundamental.(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2003-08-27) ;Bertoluci, Evandro AntonioTancredi, Regina Maria Simões PuccinelliIn the last three decades, geometry teaching in Brazil has had serious problems. A number of Brazilian researchers have identified the cause of such problems and proposed ways likely to overcome this chaotic scenario. One of the proposals presented for the enhancement of geometry teaching and learning is to use computers in this process. In recent years, quite often, due to this, a number of programs have been developed to be used as tools in that process, but its usage by the teacher must always be associated with the theoretical principles in which his practice is grounded. The objective of this thesis is to evaluate the impact of the program Cabri-Géomètre II on twenty-four 11-year-olds learning geometry. The students are from a public elementary school in Jaú, São Paulo state. To achieve this goal, a pedagogical intervention a course involving some of the geometric content those students were supposed to learn was planned, performed and evaluated by the author of this study who played the role of teacher and researcher. The course took place in the computer room of the school. Eight computers with the program Cabri-Géomètre II installed were used. The students were divided into eight groups and the geometric contents (angles, angular measure, bisection of an angle, consecutive angle, adjacent angle, complementary angles, supplementary angles, vertical angles) were organized into six different topics. For each topic a list containing the objectives of the task, the geometric concepts to be learned and the instructions on how to do the task was made. In the end of the experiment, the students did two written tests individually on the subjects studied and completed a questionnaire evaluating the course. The results show that the use of the program Cabri-Géomètre II as a support tool in geometry teaching, how it was described here, was positive. Nevertheless, other similar studies have presented less favorable results suggesting that computer aid in teaching still needs to be investigated. As a result, we suggest some changes in the course so that the teaching experience and the students learning can improve. We also put forward some ideas which may optimize public policies on computerizing schools.Item type:Item, Distribuição espacial e temporal da ictiofauna do trecho médio do rio Paranapanema e suas relações com as características morfométricas e limnológicas dos compartimentos da bacia(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2003-08-27) ;Dias, João Henrique Pinheiro ;Garavello, Júlio Césarhttps://lattes.cnpq.br/2778105126670170Item type:Item, Gestão de resíduos sólidos urbanos em municípios de pequeno porte: sistematização de diretrizes e procedimentos(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2003-08-27) ;Pellegrino, Stefânia Aparecida Custódio ;Teixeira, Bernardo Arantes do Nascimentohttps://lattes.cnpq.br/1166854416745527A new lifestyle, with changes in the consumption patterns and generation of residues, is imposed for humanity in Brazil, the growth of the cities and, at the same time, the increase in the consumption of industrialized products, are common factors to practically all the municipal districts. This way serious problems have been carted, regarding the inadequate administration of the urban solid residues (USW) generated. Because of its great number, the small municipal districts contribute with the current environmental and social problems. Thus, one of the main measures to be taken to correct this situation is the establishment of plans of the Management of USW (PMUSW) generated in such municipal districts. The present work lifted some concepts and administration models and management of USW, seeking to supply advices for the elaboration of PMUSW to small municipal districts, based in the minimization concepts. The small municipal districts can count with some facilities for an integrated administration of the different residues, especially the communication with the population, the inspection of the proposal measures, the organization of the society in the administration process of RSU. Besides, the amount of generated residues is smaller and the segregation process, collection and disposition can be simplified. On the other hand, such municipal districts face difficulties for the implantation of a good administration of USW, among them the lack of financial and human resources. Taking into account such characteristics, some guidelines were systematized and established some procedures that better adapt to the referred municipal districts, contemplating simplified solutions, of low cost, accessible to technicians and administrators without specialization in the theme and that involve the population. Such orientations were applied to a specific case of the small municipal district of (Itamogi-MG), allowing its evaluation by means of the elaboration of local PMUSW. In conclusion, it is possible to propose an administration of USW that assists the needs and limitations of those municipal districts. Item type:Item, Caracterização genética do pirarucu Arapaima gigas (Cuvier) (Teleostei, Osteoglossidae) da bacia Tocantins-Araguaia, estado do Mato Grosso(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2003-08-29) ;Marques, Débora Karla Silvestre ;Galetti Júnior, Pedro Manoelhttps://lattes.cnpq.br/7398754661670478In South America the osteoglossiforms are represented by the Arapaima and the Osteoglossum sorts, which are mostly found in the Amazonic basin, Tocantins Araguaia. There are virtually no genetic studies on this group, which highlights conservation groups need for information. The Arapaima gigas species, of the hydrographic basin Tocantins Araguaia, showed a 2n=56 chromosomes, with cariotypical formula: 28M/SM+28ST/A. Silver nitrate marking revealed a simple RON, located intersticially in the shorter arm of pair three, confirmed by a fluorescent hybration in situ, with a rDNA 18S probe, that highlighted a polymorphism in the RON sites. The constituent heterocromatin was found in the centromerical region of all chromosomes. The molecular genetic studies with RAPD marker showed the presence of only one Arapaima gigas population, with a significant intrapopulational variation. The results obtained in this work are an important contribution to the understanding of the genetics of the Arapaima gigas species and the Osteoglossiforms group, providing, moreover, subsidies for genetic handling and conservation of the Arapaima gigas species in the Médio Araguaia, state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil.Item type:Item, Indicadores de sustentabilidade na área de emprego: uma caracterização para o monitoramento de políticas públicas locais(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2003-08-29) ;Barboza, Ricardo Augusto Bonotto ;Fernandes, Ana Cristina de Almeidahttps://lattes.cnpq.br/3262670232283121This research was prepared with the propose of showing the reflections about the which ones ruled this research. The current Educational Policies and the new conception of mental deficiency state guidelines about the inclusion of the handicapped individuals in common spaces and call for the reflection of the use of educative practices with the vision centered in the person as a subject that has desires. This demands from the educators the exercise of looking at student s abilities, and educating him/her in real environments in order to allow them to live in real environments. In this study, it was investigated the effects of the Natural Functional Curriculum application in: (a) student s interests in the acquisition of the proposed abilities; (b) the change of the interests and abilities repertoire; (c) individual s general functioning; (e) student s generalization at home; and (f) the learning maintenance. The Study started from an evaluation centered in the person. Participated in the study two adult persons with Autism and Invasive Developmental Disturbance associated to a Severe Mental Deficiency. The study was realized in the Brazil Ann Sullivan Center R.P . Initially the level of student s interest and abilities were evaluated. Their performance was evaluated by an operant baseline (Lbo) and supported baseline (Lba) in daily living activities, home living and functional academics. Based on this evaluation, an individualized Natural Functional Curriculum was organized and trained in group and in natural environments. The data was collected in a period that varied from 33 to 44 weeks. The students were re evaluated daily for each task and as a whole after four months. A method to evaluate and quantify student s level of performance and interest was developed through the support needed in real circumstances. The results show that in both students the interests are associated with the performance in most of the activities and that in the final general functioning they needed much less support in relation to their initial performance. It was observed that both participants had their interest and ability repertoire in the proposed tasks, estimated by Lbo and Lba, increased significantly, and it was generalized in the student's home and maintained upon follow-up. It was concluded that: (a) The proposed method allows to evaluate and to quantify the interests and abilities of severe mentally retarded individuals with communications deficits and autism; (b) The Functional Natural Curriculum, associated with the evaluation method developed in this study, is an educational alternative to teach useful concepts and abilities, if situations such as age, desires, student s capabilities to inform and to make choices are respected; (c) The operant baseline emphasizes normality and dependency in a way that minimizes the student potential; (d) The supported baseline, transform the handicapped in a unique Person and that they are different from others.Item type:Item, Estudos de diversidade genética em estoques reprodutores de camarões Litopenaeus vannamei cultivados no Brasil(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2003-08-29) ;Freitas, Patrícia Domingues de ;Galetti Júnior, Pedro Manoelhttps://lattes.cnpq.br/7398754661670478The identification of genetic marks can provide information about the distribution of genetic variability in relation to populational size and parental generation, besides the discrimination of lines and/or individuals. Researches carried out in different shrimp species reared at captivity have demonstrated that a regular monitoring of the genetic variability levels of stocks, through identification of molecular markers, is essential to an adequate management orientation. In the present work, RAPD markers were used to evaluate the genetic diversity and to determine the divergence and identity relationships among different broodstocks of the marine shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei reared at Brazil. The DNA extraction was performed according to Sambrook et al. (1989) and PCR reactions were accomplished by using the kit Ready-To-Go RAPD Analysis Beads (Amersham Pharmacia Biotech). The percentage of polymorphic loci, allele frequencies, diversity indexes, and Nei´s genetic distance and identity were determined; and dendrograms of genetic similarity were built, by using the software POPGENE, version 1.31 (Yeh et al., 1999). The Jaccard´s genetic similarity coefficient, which ignores the absence of band as an indicator of similarity, was calculated by using the software NTSYS, version 2.0 (Rohlf, 1993). A total of 332 individuals from 19 broodstocks were analyzed, five of them belonging to a same inbred line. Sixty-four fragments were identified when a set of six primers was adopted to perform RAPD-PCR. The genetic diversity and similarity indexes demonstrated a reduced variability in stocks at initial domestication process. The analysis of genetic distance and identity evidenced that the reared stocks are closely related, lacking significant divergences. The values obtained in the inbreeding line revealed a progressive decreasing of genetic variation throughout the generations. The dendrogram demonstrated that as long as the generation increases, the genetic structure changes and becomes more and more distant from that observed in the first populations. According to analysis by non-linear regression, if this tendency is maintained, the levels of genetic variation can get close to zero before the stock reaches the 19th generation. The molecular data obtained in the present work reinforce the suggestion that the management nowadays carried out by Brazilian larviculture laboratories to compose and maintain broodstocks of L. vannamei, leads to a reduction of the levels of genetic diversity of captive populations. The development of genetically divergent lines and crossbreeding programs might contribute to the establishment of more adequate strategies.Item type:Item, Capacitando professores de ensino fundamental em serviço para uma educação inclusiva.(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2003-08-30) ;Ortiz, Luciana Guedes Machado ;Denari, Fátima Elisabethhttps://lattes.cnpq.br/5575213011914394In this work, it is met the results of a study about the teachers' Fundamental Teaching training in service, seeking their preparations for the Inclusive Education, through their realities in a public school of Fundamental Teaching of a city of the northeast from São Paulo. The participants of this research were, 3 teachers of Regular Classes of Teaching, being 2 of 1a. and 1 of 4a.Series , with which training was implanted in service, guaranteeing the reflection of their practices in their daily allied to theoretical references and orientations. Besides those teachers, other ones of the school participated of the research allowing a characterization of the conceptions that these possess about the Inclusive Education and through the participation in lectures on themes of their preferences, tied up to Especial Education. One of the most important characteristics of the present work is inside the importance of the researcher's role on the context, with its active participation, getting directly with the participants through observations, interviews/meetings, lectures and documental analysis. The results point to a significant change of behaviors and attitudes on the part of the participants in relation to the student with special educational needs in regular class of teaching, the concrete benefits of the training in service and the need of its implementation. It also approaches, the importance of a team inside the school, sensitive to this context and prepared to work with the difficulties faced in the day-to-day by the whole scholar community. Item type:Item, Diversidade de Similiidae (Diptera, Nematocera) em córregos do estado de São Paulo, Brasil(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2003-09-03) ;Pepinelli, Mateus ;Strixino, Susana Trivinho ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/1804083229761186https://lattes.cnpq.br/4749916650581885With the aim to analyse the Simuliidae diversity in the State of São Paulo streams, a program of collection was done during two weather seasons (dry/2001; wet/2002) in 33 aquatic systems, including forested and open low order streams and outflow of water impoundments in 11 areas inside the Mata Atlântica and Cerrado forest. The immatures were collected manually and with the Surber sampler. Overall 26 Simuliidae species were analyzed and identified of which 8 were new occurrences to São Paulo State and 1 to Brazil. Simulium pertinax, S. incrustatum, S. perflavum, S. noguerai and S. inaequale were the most frequent species, collected in at least 30% of the water bodies. The numerical population density didn t show significant difference between the weather seasons (Kruskal-Wallis non parametric test). The relations between the taxonomic structure and the environment variables were analyzed by cluster analyses and principal components (Spearman s rank coefficent). Water velocity and streams dimensions were the main variables that explained the distribution of Simuliidae species. The anthropic impact level, as impoundment or deforestation may also influence the species distribution.Item type:Item, Estudos da fauna de Chironomidae (Diptera) nos córregos galharada, campo do meio e casquilho do parque estadual de Campos do Jordão, SP(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2003-09-03) ;Suriano, Marcia Thais ;Gessner, Alaíde Aparecida Fonsecahttps://lattes.cnpq.br/8465752836529703Chironomidae is an important group among the aquatic Diptera significantly participating in the composition of the benthic macroinvertebrate community of a vaariety of aquatic systems. It has been estimated that there exists at least 2.000-3.000 species in each biogeographical region. In Brazil, however, there are few studies on the ecology and taxonomy of this group. In Sao Paulo State 89 genera and 66 species were registered so far. Aiming to contribute to the advance in the knowledge on this family, the present work analized the Chironominae occurring at the State Park of Campos de Jordao, considering the absence of data regarding this family for that region which has peculiar characteristics for Sao Paulo State, such as: high altitude and subtropical high a altitude temperate climate. Samplings for the immature phase were performed by using a Surber type sampler and a D net. The samples were taken at the rivers Galharada and its affluent, Campo do Meio and Casquilho, all them of low order, with stony beds, protected by riparian vegetation; The water is transparent, cold, well oxygenated, acid, with low electrical conductivity and turbidity. Adults were captured close to the sampling points of the larvae using light trap. The results revealed differences in the structure of the communities among the streams. From cluster analysis it was possible to see the clustering of Galharada sampling points located in a central region of the park and mainly represented by the taxa aff.Omisus sp1 and Corynoneura. On the other hand the sampling points Campo do Meio and Casquilho, suffering anthropogenic impacts presented a dominance of aff. Pseudochironomus sp1 species. The diversity of adult specimens was higher than that of larvae, and new records of species for Sao Paulo State were found (Neelamia) and Brazil (Paramerina), as well as new species (Antillocladius sp1 and Goeldichironomus sp). The faunistic data will be incorporated and made available by the Environmental Information System é SinBiota/FAPESP.Item type:Item, Evolução da forma e encolhimento de um sistema gel durante a secagem por convecção forçada(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2003-09-05) ;Arrieche, Leonardo da SilvaSartori, Dermeval José MazziniKnowledge of the shape evolution and shrinkage of a spherical gel system during drying by forced convection significantly enhances the understanding of this process under the vision of the transport phenomena. This work consists in the development of a gel system, with spherical geometry, which allows analyzing the effect of the fluid flow, in the boundary layer, on the moisture transport, shrinkage and on the shape evolution of the sample, during drying in an air stream forced convection equipment. The shrinkage was observed through the capture of images, used for the calculation of shape factors. The process was evaluated under a laminar flow (based on particle diameter), with a agar concentration of 1.5 and 3% (wet basis), fluid velocities varying from 1.0 to 2.0 m/s and initial particle diameters of 1.61.10-2 and 2.66.10-2 m, being the temperature maintained at 50 0C. The results confirmed with good reproducibility, proved statistically, that the circularity and specific mass of the samples decrease according to the formation of accentuated two-dimensional moisture profiles, for moisture contents lower than the critical value. The difference between the maximum and minimum diameters of a sample, during the process, evidenced the variation of the mass transfer rates between the previous and subsequent areas. It was inferred that during the constant drying rate period, the analysis is pondered in relation to the moisture transport, with the circularity and specific mass of the samples staying approximately constant. The gel system used allowed to reach the proposed objective, in a selective way, representing materials intensely affected by the shrinkage.
