Programa de orientação não presencial de pais de crianças deficientes auditivas.
(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2005-02-24) Motti, Telma Flores Genaro; Pardo, Maria Benedita Lima
The final result of rehabilitation of hearing impaired children depends on how the parents deal with the situation, i.e. how they accept their child s condition and enjoy the opportunities of the environment to stimulate and optimize the therapeutic and educational work done by specialists. The information that parents receive should consider the social and emotional context, to allow application of orientations and exploitation of the available resources. The purpose of this work was to elaborate and evaluate a non-presential orientation program for parents and caretakers of children with severe or deep hearing impairment, aged 2 to 6 years. The program was designed in four units of theoretical content with basic information and proposals of practical activities, was applied to 30 parents assisted at the Center for Hearing, Language and Vision Disturbances of HRAC/USP. The units were prepared on the basis of information achieved from specialists and parents. Information from specialists comprised the orientation they provide during the appointments for hearing impairment diagnosis and hearing aid fitting, and the knowledge that parents should acquire from the orientation, in accordance with their reports. Information from the parents addressed their difficulties with the children, themselves and their family, and the type of information they would like to receive. To evaluate the content and the receptivity of the program, the parents answers to the questionnaires of the four units were considered, as well as the final interview, which was applied to the first 14 parents completing the questionnaires. The analyses revealed that parents look for clear and direct information, which may guide them in daily life, as well as suggestions of practical activities adequate to their real lives and families, to help in child development. Although some parents found difficulties in expressing themselves by writing or doing the activities that required some educational level, it was noticed that it did not impair a program with written material and suggestions of activities. It should be considered that some questions only aimed at making parents think about the proposed subjects, and even when having difficulties to answer some question or perform some activity, the parents were already involved with the subjects and could attempt to apply them to their reality, to make decisions with tranquility and confidence.

Social Skills Training (SST) can be used to increase teachers social competence, contributing to the development of interactive contexts in the classroom as well as to the student s learning. The purpose of this research was to elaborate and describe intervention procedures used in a group SST program with teachers who work with children that present learning difficulties, consisting of 15 sessions for the development of social skills. The effects of the SST were analysed in terms of: a) acquisition of social skills classes and b) generalization of social skills learned in the sessions for the classroom context. The sample included 10 teachers, in the 26-54 age range. The data gathering procedure involved the use of the Interpersonal Relations Questionnaire (IRQ) before the intervention, the Social Skills Inventory (SSI) and the filming of each teacher with his/her students, before and after the intervention. The IRQ data showed that at the beginning the teachers had some difficulties in dealing with interpersonal conflicts in the classroom, demonstrating lack of social skills. It was also observed a certain incoherence in the verbal report related to some questions, highlighting flaws in the self-observation and self-knowledge repertoire. Based on the survey of the behavioral classes presented by the facilitator by means of the tape transcriptions, it was possible to classify the intervention procedures that had the following purposes: a) to investigate interpersonal difficulties; b) to analyse previous-consequent relations; c) to train specific social skills; d) presentation of positive results and; e) to sound out generalization which contributed to the learning of social skills and generalization for the classroom context. The SSI data showed that after the intervention there was an increase in the scores average of the group of teachers in all the social skills classes that were assessed. In the individual analysis some teachers showed much bigger changes than others and for some of them there was a slight decrease in the scores. As for the filming data in the classroom, there was no increase in all the social skills that were assessed, but in those that increased, the generalization was evidenced. The results obtained allow us to state that the improvement of the teachers social skills repertoire enables them to foster interactive contexts in the classroom, contributing to the student s academic and interpersonal development.

Researchers in the area of special education have shown that various factors outside the school system can lead children to develop learning problems. Poor quality family relationships, for example, can interfere with the healthy development of the various facets of a child s self concept which, in turn, can lower the child s academic achievement. As such, many criticisms are made concerning the way that parents especially mothers - divide their attention between their children and other involvements. Presently, most married women fall into one of two categories: some dedicate the great majority of their time to caring for their family and homes, while others divide their time between their family, homes and paid employment. Both options bring advantages and disadvantages to the task of parenting. For working mothers, the great amount of time required to meet both family and professional obligations is a source of stress, which can compromise the quality of parent-child relationships. On the other hand, in many families in which the mother is a housewife, financial resources are fewer and the women have lower selfesteem and poorer health than women who have paid employment, which can reduce the quality of their parenting behaviors. The objectives of this study were to: a) adapt existing instruments to evaluate work conditions, psychological wellbeing and the mothers involvement in bringing up their children; b) compare housewives and women who have paid employment with respect to the frequency of various types of involvements with their children; and c) investigate the relationship between the frequency of these interactions and three measures that reflect the adequacy of certain aspects of their children s development (self-concept, academic achievement and the children s perceptions of the mother-child relationship). Participants included 60 mother-child pairs -- 23 mothers with paid employment and 37 housewives. The average age of the mothers was 36.5 years. The children were in either fifth or sixth grade, with an average age of 11.9 years. The mothers responded to the Mother s vision about her family interaction and well being Questionnaire , and the children were evaluated using Portuguese versions of the Academic Achievement Test , the Self-Description Questionnaire I (SDQI) and the Mother-Child Relationship Questionnaire Child´s Vision . With respect to the mothers, both groups reported that they make frequent use of the majority of the parenting behaviors that lead to healthy family relationships, with very few statistically significant differences appearing between the two groups. With respect to the children, there were no statistically significant differences between those whose mothers were housewives and those whose mothers had paid employment, in terms of their academic achievement, selfconcept or their evaluations of the frequency of their interactions with their mothers. These results indicate that there was no relationship between these three measures of the children s wellbeing and their mothers employment status. However, correlations showed that the frequency of some types of maternal interaction make a positive contribution to the development of their children s academic self-concept, which, in turn, is positively related to their academic achievement. Thus, the frequency of the mothers involvement in their children s lives, in and of itself, and not her status as a housewife or a working mother, seems to be an important factor for the development of a positive selfconcept and achievement of academic success, among their children.

Modelo com mistura de multinomiais aplicado à identificação de proteínas similares
(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2005-02-24) Coimbra, Ricardo Galante; Milan, Luis Aparecido
The proteins are important molecules from the cells, whereas they take part since the construction of cell´s framing until the transmission of the genetic information between the generations. A protein can be characterized by its function and its function is determined by the sequence of amino acids that determines its structure. To determined the protein's function is important, for instance, in a research about the cure of diseases or searching for new drugs. In this research we use a bayesian statistical methodology with mixture of multinomial and latent variables to identify proteins with similar function. We use simulations to verify the performance of the statistical model for identifying the similar proteins. At the end we apply the modeling to a real data set.

Estudo dos Homiinae (Hymenoptera, Braconidae) em remanescentes de Mata Atlântica Ombrófila do Brasil
(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2005-02-24) Shimbori, Eduardo Mitio; Dias, Angélica Maria Penteado Martins; https://lattes.cnpq.br/8637344058859147; https://lattes.cnpq.br/3958236707152165
In this work the efficiency of three traditional methods of collection of insects were analyzed and tested (Malaise trap, Moericke trap and "sweepings" of the vegetation) for studies of the subfamília Hormiinae and, separately, for the six more abundant sorts in the collections (Allobracon Gahan, 1915; Aspilodemon Fischer, 1968; Hormius, Nees, 1818; Pambolus Haliday, 1836; Pseudorhysipolis Scatolini & Penteado-Dias, 2002, and Rhysipolis Förster, 1862). The relation of this efficiency ea biology of the sorts briefly is argued. The technique of "sweepings" of the vegetation was the method most efficient for specimen collection of the majority of the sorts. The theories regarding the distribution of the species in a latitudinal gradient are argued on the basis of specimen samples of a subfamily of parasitoid insects, that seem to constitute an exception to the classic standard of distribution of the largest part of the organisms. The importance to consider the biology of the organisms and regional variables is pointed out. The gotten results corroborate with the consulted works and the hypotheses of geometric limits, energy of the environment and spalling of resources. Twelve new species and new occurrences for three sorts and two species for Brazil are cited. The distribution of the species in the points of collection and the South America is told and illustrated. The potential of new species is briefly commented with approach in the main sorts and also in the Northeast Region. Twelve new species of Allobracon Gahan, 1915 (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) are described and illustrated. All species described were collected in Brazilian Atlantic Forest. A key to species is added.

Escola: as minas e os manos têm a palavra
(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2005-02-24) Jovino, Ione da Silva; Abramowicz, Anete; https://lattes.cnpq.br/6714175723955949
The research has for main objective the relationship estabilisered between the black hip-hopper students and formal education. It seeks, from a Foucault style reference, the construction of the language, visions, feelings and significations that the young hip-hoppers associate with school. Describing itself as a study that attempts to stand between formal education and the hip-hop culture, this dissertation may contribute to the debate of hip-hop as a power, as a escape route for the black and poor youngsters. It also shows how hip-hop, as a culture apart has commenced such a skirmish for cultural positions within the school and has dislocated power arrangements.
