Due to the fact that governmental decisions centralize local sustainability as a basis for reaching global sustainability, planning and establishing directives for municipal territories are growingly important. Therefore, the objective of the present study was to characterize, analyze and elaborate a conceptual proposal for ecological-economical zoning in the city of Santa Cruz da Conceição, state of São Paulo, Brazil, using Geographical Information Systems GIS in order to create a digital georeferenced database that would enable the understanding of the structure and functioning of natural systems for the sustainable use of natural municipal resources. Characterization and zoning were based on topographical charts and aerial photographs. Results led to the construction of maps of structural elements in the landscape, analysis of erosion risks, and definition of zones of environmental fragility. For each zone, the problems, limitations and potentials were determined. Besides, tendency and directions were projected in order to determine general and specific directives for the preservation of natural characteristics and prioritization of the potentialities in each area. The municipal territory was divided into four zones that showed distinct levels of environmental fragility: zone of major relative environmental fragility (ZMAF), zone of medium relative environmental fragility (ZMEF), zone of major relative environmental stability (ZMAE) and urban zone (ZURB). ZMAF and ZMEF were predominant in the landscape of the city with 37.54% and 41.62% of the area, respectively. Results obtained evidenced the need to determine legal public, technical and financial tools for the social control of existing environmental impacts, to substitute and diversify socialeconomical matrices and to adequate the use of natural resources to local environmental fragilities.

High rubber content acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene terpolymer (ABS) has been used to tough PBT. As a result, super tough PBT/ABS blends under notched Izod impact have been obtained. However, there has been a significant reduction in the PBT/ABS Young modulus. The development of an optimum stiffness-toughness balance in PBT/ABS blends can be achieved by addition of short glass fibers to the composite blends. The composite performance is strongly dependent on the matrix-fiber interface and consequently the surface treatment of the fiber is a key factor to be considered. In the present work, the effect of two kinds of glass fibers treatment on the mechanical properties of PBT/ABS blends is investigated and the results discussed in terms of the changes of the fiber wettability and interfacial adhesion strength of the fiber to the resin. The processing conditions used to prepare glass fiber reinforced tough PBT/ABS blends were studied to observe the best conditions to maintain the toughness and stiffness of the blend as high as possible. A twin screw extrusion was used to prepare the reinforced PBT/ABS blends. Tensile, impact and essential work of fracture (EWF) testing was carried out to evaluate the mechanical properties for stiffness and toughness of the reinforced blends, respectively. The results have shown a strong dependence of the mechanical properties on the surface treatment of the fibers and these results are corroborated by electron microscopy micrographs that clearly illustrate the changes in the composite fiber/matrix interface in the presence of differences in surface treatments of the fiber. The development of an optimum stiffness-toughness balance in PBT/ABS blends was achieved and EWF has been successfully applied to evaluate the toughness for PBT/ABS blends.

The aim of this work is to analyze the NUPES academic production, specifically 23 serial researches of Work Documents periodic from 1989 to 2005. The principal objective is to investigate if NUPES academic production was antecipated, in scientific means, to political process and educational laws development process since 90´s decade, keeping in mind Brazilian superior educational official changes. Our specific aim is to identify the concept of scientific publication autonomie of this section, and this concept evolution also. We tried to reflect how political aspirations, vizualazed and projected by NUPES for almost two decades are been incorporeted by educational law arcabouço and based on science and tecnologie Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico-CNPq, analized here by the editais from 2003-2004. The research point out evidences that NUPES proposal Project after 16 years turned them not only a protagonist but na important part of thematic, theorical and methodological field of superior educational reform process. Their researchs, publications, discussions abreviated politics that are incorporate to life by laws, decrees, and measures. The politics point out that the State is suffering a new political orientation, that had been done by NUPES from two decades in BRazil. These orientations focusing on public universities has been materializing under political forms stimulating the management switc, employes hire, its spend, and the new function that demands to the university. All the analysis bring us to a commun place, indicating a academic culture, professor-researcher profile (now a entrepreneur) and flexibility that this politics demands, are changing movements into the university, indicating less scientific autonomie power in academic university space. All this movement bring us to a new State politics, that uses public means to invest in politics direct from productiv section, providing a new knowedlege dimension, not meeting politic and academic time neither social comportament, breaching the three pilars of the university: scientific, financial and didactic autonomy.

The collection and maintenance of the material used in this paper were financed by the Biota/ FAPESP project (process 1998/05083-0). The main objective of this study is to come to know the Stiropius Cameron, 1911 (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Rogadinae) fauna in 8 localities in the Atlantic Rain Forest distributed by the Southeastern part of Brazil, aiming to amplify the taxonomic knowledge of the group mentioned before. The genus includes 18 described species, only one from Brazil. Using Malaise and Moericke traps and sweeping of the vegetation 44 units of the genus Stiropius were collected and identified as 31 different species: 5 were already described by ACHTERBERG (1995) in Central America and 26 new species: 7 in Sao Paulo State, 12 in Rio de Janeiro State and 7 in Espirito Santo State. The richness of species is significant when compared to the number of samples that were found, suggesting that the genus Stiropius constitutes a diverse group in the Atlantic Rain Forest and indicates the shortage and viability of new studies with the genus Stiropius, approaching the Rain Forest biome and the south-American continent in general, since reviews of the genus before this paper were carried only for North and Central America.

The use of computer games for education is getting more and more common, since they are considered a potential tool for facilitating the learning process, making it more comfortable and natural for students. However, the majority of the existent educational games neither allows content personalization nor offers any support for teachers to contextualize the game content to the socio-cultural reality of a certain group of students. The environment What is it? developed in this project allows teachers to co-author card-based quiz games and offers common sense support from a common sense knowledge base previously filtered by teachers, according to the desired student profile, making possible fit the content for the students needs. The environment is divided into three modules: (I) the editor s module, where teachers can create a game instance; (II) learner s module which is used by players to guess the secret word of a game card (for instance, AIDS), which is related to a topic (STD Sexually Transmitted Disease, for example) that is referred to one of the transversal themes proposed by SEF/MEC (for example, Sexual Education), inferring the word from the clues that are presented one by one; and (III) the evaluation module for teachers to analyze the performance of each student in playing the game and to make their conclusions. The environment also proposes a new way for collecting common sense knowledge through which mechanisms on the editor s and player s modules store all the interaction of teachers and students with the system, mapping the data gotten from the interaction in relations stored in the Open Mind Common Sense (OMCS-Br) knowledge base, which currently collects common sense knowledge in the form of natural language statements through voluntary contributions in the site of the project (http://www.sensocomum.ufscar.br). For assessing the environment, a case study was performed in two state schools one in São Carlos/SP and another in Foz do Iguaçu/PR that allowed to certify the interest of teachers and students in using this kind of educational tool and to collect opinions from teachers about using common sense knowledge for contextualizing the generated content. Moreover the potential for collecting new common sense statements through the game, contributing towards making the OMCS-Br common sense knowledge base grow faster, is demonstrated.

The early years of professional activity are the period in which new graduates face the challenge of completing their transition from students to teachers. Research has shown that this phase is characterized by intense learning and significant stress, often in unfamiliar contexts where the beginners are required to attain professional skills while maintaining a certain level of personal balance (Marcelo, 1998). Many interfering factors will affect the daily routine of beginning teachers, frequently leading to a number of obstacles to overcome. This work applies a qualitative approach in the detection and resolution of such difficulties from a collaborative perspective, using workgroup cooperation as a central strategy. It also investigates the contribution of workgroup strategy to the development of beginning teachers, and to the beginners ability to face and overcome arising problems. Theoretical references were taken from previous studies on the recent trends in teacher development, the knowledge basis of teaching and the processes of pedagogic reasoning. Collaborative research was performed with a group of four beginning elementary school teachers who attended weekly meetings over a one-year period. The full-length transcripts of all meetings served as the main source of pertinent data, supplemented by several written accounts produced by the participants themselves. Results show that, among the several challenges encountered by teachers in their day-to-day activities, classroom management issues can be considered as the primary source of difficulties. The group was effective in proposing solutions to reported problems and in contributing to the professional development of beginners. Works of this nature, however, can be limited by a number of factors, such as the time span between the establishment of a group and the moment it becomes truly collaborative (Grossman et al, 2001). Despite that fact, the group used in this study rendered meaningful results and showed that the theorization of day-to-day classroom experiences can constitute a powerful instrument for the professional development of teachers.

A summary of the state of the art relative to regression models for binary response variable and panel data is presented in this work. Those models may include efects from several sources: specific variables of interest, heterogeneity between individuals and lagged values of the response variable. The original contributions of the author are simulation studies to compare two diferent approaches to maximum likelihood estimation of parameters of dynamic models with all three kinds of efects, and also a study of properties of such estimators in group sequential analysis, using the bootstrap methodology. Original codes were developed in R for implementation of simulation studies. The relevance of the subject and the non availability of appropriate codes in commercial software for fitting dynamic models for binary response justify the choice of the theme.

For the most part of modelings in the credit risk area, the most widely used model is the credit scoring, and as the main statistical technique, the binary logistic regression, used to determine whether a customer is a good or bad payer. In this academic work an alternative methodology is proposed, where the estimative is formed based on the scores obtained by customers; this means the response follows a binomial distribution. In this modeling the combined estimate of scores of various products used by customers is included, considering the correlation between these scores.

In medical and biological researches we often .nd count data. For longitudinal count data, usual Poisson regression models, assuming independence among observations, are not applicable because of the correlation of these measures. This work presents hierarchical Bayesian models considering random e¤ects to analyze longitudinal count data. A Normal and a Gamma distribution are considered to these e¤ects besides the mixture of Normal distributions. We also present zero in.ated Poisson (ZIP) regression models for repeated measures. Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) is used to estimate the parameters. Keywords: Longitudinal Count Data; Poisson Regression Model; Zero In.ated Model; Hierarchical Model; Bayesian Analysis; MCMC Methods.

This research searched to identify and to analyze the main factors that influence the expression and development of the ethics in an organization of the state public sector Secretaria da Fazenda do Estado de São Paulo - SEFAZ, addressing the space occupied by Agentes Fiscais de Rendas - AFRs. The concern with the issue of ethical values is increasingly present in the public sector. Several fronts seems to announce the return of ethical philosophy: the development of new schools of thought, the renaissance of the ethical debate and the multiplication of the discussions. The structuring of the work stems from the history and unique position of the author, Production Engineer and AFR in the organization studied. Based on the multidisciplinary profile that characterizes Production Engineering, we sought to undertake an exchange to enable a fruitful discussion between the two fields. The first part of the work consisted of pointing out the problem of research against a broader background and theoretical reference chosen for it. Then the studied organization was presented and described their history together with the morphology of its population, composed of inspectors and other categories of servers. We show how the concepts relevant in this field: inspectors, taxes, internal mechanisms of control, ethics are constructed objects, resulting in a continuous process of evolution of the organization. The instruments for the control of conduct relating to the inspectors were identified and presented following a time sequence trying to define the rationale, motivation and support that had created the conditions for the formation of the instruments of the organization. We note that the process of building mechanisms of control surpasses the limits of the organization, coming to receive the influence of players as far away as: national and international civil organizations, media, academia, business and other public agencies. There is a dynamic process of export-import of theoretical models in the process of deploying the mechanisms of control. The rationality that these models praise, as the increase of emphasis in efficiency or visibility of the organization, dispute space with the civic ideal underlying the relationship between the public service and citizens. The existence of multiple rationalities in the mechanisms of control can be a factor of uncertainty in the form of public officials to give accounts. On the other hand, it also indicates that the public service and its servers are not indifferent to the yearnings of the society in the fight against the corruption, meeting agents worried in interpreting and taking care of the yearnings of ethics emanated by the society.

The new product development (NPD) is essential for the competitiveness, mainly for small and medium sized Technology-based Companies (TBCs), which innovation can be considered one of its main business process. The objective of this thesis is characterizing and proposing a reference model to the NPD in small and medium sized TBCs from the process control automation (PCA) and medical-hospital equipment (HME) sectors. The specifications to develop the reference model were done according to a practical research, which considered both quantitative and qualitative research method. Firstly, a survey was done based on a sample of 62 TBCs in order to characterize practices used in the NPD management. Elucidation of the results generated from the statistical procedures enabled to find a set of factors (practices) that affect the success of product development in these companies. Management factors related to the pre-development activities, the role played by the leader in the NPD project and the proficiency in executing the activities of technical development were indicated as a determinant factor of success. After this process, a qualitative research was done in four TBCs in order to analyse better the PDP of these companies. After the empirical evidence in the analysis and considering the theoretical reference about the NPD, it was possible to formalize a number of proposals which enabled a reference model to manage the NPD in small and medium sized TBC from PCA and HME sectors. The model has five dimensions: strategic orientation; process; organization and leadership, evaluation and performance and resources. The research enabled to characterize the NPD management in such a specific companies and to provide a reference model, which can be used as a diagnostic and support to the organization of the NPD management in small and medium sized TBCs.

This paper is all about spatial perception in order to be used at participative process of urban planning. The spatial perception to deal with the relationship between human being and space to identify needs, desires, opinions, appropriation level, to have a basic grasp of citizen and so on. The urban process has taken the human being to adapt to transformed space, instead of to adapt to space to human being, to take for granted the consequences of life quality. Some of the authors like Kevin Lynch and Amos Rapoport show that the built space should be adapted to human needs searching spatial quality. For this, the supplied subsidies by spatial perception are valuable to planner to take a decision. This subsidies come form population introducing different way to popular participation at planning process. There are many techniques to get the population perception. For instenee: the interviews, the mental maps, the photographs, etc. It is established a methodology strategy in each case according to the specific study s object and the research purpose. To discuss the perception spatial as participative process are analyzed three brazilians experiences which one is involved the public power; one of them at Região Metropolitana de Vitória (ES), the other at Santo André (SP) and at last Araraquara (SP). After all, the feasibility of the spatial perception as participative instrument is argued theoretically studying the subsidies supplied, the quality of popular participation and the condition for its introducing.

The purpose of this study is to examine the participation of the State University of Montes Claros (UNIMONTES) in the context of education policies of the country as regards its participation and proposition of training teachers in the Superior Normal mode in the post- LDBEN. Delineamos object of study as the training of teachers of the course Normal Superior / Modular offered by UNIMONTES. I reviewed the theoretical assumptions and economic education in the proposals of neoliberal Miltom Friedrick Hayek and Friedman. This study if it bases on the contributions of Karl Marx. The methodology is guided by qualitative research-quantitative, combining data: questionnaires, interviews, official documents of the course Normal Superior, matches of students and production of texts. The considerations possible, this research is that UNIMONTES, contributed to the access of a significant contingent of teachers of elementary school, following the decisions of LDBEN 9394/96. However, the university changes its role in training teachers when relegates to the background the course of teaching that has historical tradition in the training of professional education in the north of Minas.

In this dissertation we determine maximum likelihood and bayesian estimates of the size of a closed population, from two lists of data of elements of the population. It has been supposed that the registers of the individual information in the lists are capable of mismatches and, with relation to the bayesian method, the prioris distributions are noninformative and they have maximum enthropy for the parameters. We also present the bayesian model, witch has considered the numbers elements of the two lists as a latent variable. We compare these models through examples with simulated and real data.

The present study was developed in Jardim Gonzaga , a peripheral neighborhood of the city of São Carlos, interior of the State of São Paulo, where the project Vivências em Atividades Diversificadas de Lazer (Experiences in Diversified Leisure Activities) takes place. This is a university extension project (São Carlos Federal University), in partnership with the project Campeões na Rua (Champions in the Street), coordinated by São Carlos s Town Hall. The objective of this research was to analyze the educative processes present in the social practice of leisure, with particular attention to the playful elements (ludic), in the context of the project Vivências em Atividades Diversificadas de Lazer , which took place in the Communitarian Station (ECO) of Jardim Gonzaga, especially through the perception of the oldest participants, their relatives and the educators. The methodology used was situated phenomenon , a phenomenological qualitative inquiry. Interviews were carried out with four participants and four respective relatives¸ inserted in the projects since the beginning (2002). Three educators currently participating in the project were also interviewed. For the gathering of data, field diaries were made between September of 2004 and April of 2008. In the analysis of the data the next categories were established: A) Playing and learning in the project; B) ECO is a better space for the projects; C) The importance of the educators; D) Driving children out of the street; E) To play and to learn with a full tummy is better. These categories made the construction of the results possible. In the considerations I observed, among the educative processes resulting from the relationship between the participants, the educators and their relatives: learning while they are playing, diversified ludic experiences and independence in choosing how to enjoy leisure, affection and sensibility, collective work, respect and solidarity for others, racial-ethnically affirmative actions, respect and interaction with the environment, incentive towards reading and writing, apprenticeships in different spaces, commitment. Finally, I would like to emphasize that besides what we learn (games; mutual respect, without regard to gender, age, race, social status, professional status, culture...), equally important is how we learn (we humanize ourselves): in concrete experiences, in significant existences, in reciprocity.

In survival analysis some studies show a meaningful cure rate after treatment followup, so considering standard survival models can not be appropriate. In this work is extended the long-term survival model proposed by Chen, Ibrahim and Sinha (1999) via generating function of a real sequence introduced by Feller (1967). This new formulation is the uni_cation of the long-term survival models proposed by Rodrigues el al. (2008). Also, as in Rodrigues el al. (2008) it is shown that the long-term survival generating function satis_es the proportional hazard property if only if the number of competing causes related to the occurence of a event of interest follows a Poisson distribution. A real data set is considered to illustrate this approach.

The synthesis and characterization of Ba1-xCaxTiO3 (BCT) for x = 5; 10; 15; 20; 40 e 80 % mol that crystallizes in a perovisquita structure were studied in this work. The BCT material was synthesized by CPM which allows obtaining structurally ordered and disordered powders. The effect of the calcium concentration was analyzed for the structurally ordered and disordered materials. The powders were crystallized at several temperatures ranging from 400 to 1200 °C for different times. The obtained materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and X-ray Absorption Near Edge Structure (XANES) and photoluminescent emission (PL). These techniques allowed to observe the evolution of the phases as well as the structural disorder of the samples. XRD results indicated that up to 20 % mol of calcium, there is formation of a solid solution with Ca2+ ion occupying the Ba2+ site in the of the BaTiO3 crystalline network. It was verified that the BCT ordered phase was obtained after calcining at 600 °C by 2 h. The presence of an intermediate oxicarbonate barium phase in temperatures below of the tetragonal BCT crystallization. The luminescent property of structurally ordered and disordered BCT powders were studied at room temperature, using two excitation wavelengths: 350,7 nm and 488,0 nm. Structurally disordered BCT present broad PL band when excited by both of wavelengths. The powders annealed at 500 oC displays the most significant PL intensity. It was verified that with the increase of the calcium concentration, the maximum of the photoluminescent emission curve tends to laser wavelength energy. XANES spectra showed in the disordered powders the coexistence of sixfold and fivefold titanium coordination. A correlation between the coexistence of this two types of coordination for the titanium atoms and PL was proposed.

From the link between the works of Freud, Ferenczi and Groddeck, this study attempts to show that psychoanalysis, since their first developments, provides evidence for the formulation of a psychoanalytic psychosomatic. In the first chapter, when we approach psychoanalytic concepts that are in the intersection between the psychic and somatic, we present evidences suggesting that somatic changes that affect somatic functions and/or structures are produced when, under impact of a traumatic situation, added by the insufficiency of the specific action, the discharge of the affection occurs of a totally unconscious way, running a cumulative excitement that found no other way of expression. This means of discharge, which is based upon the acting, not on the word, can come up from phylogenesis after the failure of the ontogenesis to equip the individual with more consistent reactions to him face limit-situations of reality. Prevented from acting against the object, the natural aggressiveness -inherent to the instincts of preservation of the species- acts in the way to disrupt the psychic functioning or, if it is sufficiently protected by the cleavage of the ego, disorganizing the somatic structures. On that regression beyond the psychic limits, selfdestructiveness, remnant of the original masochism, expressed a force even more basic in the formation of living being, as sought to show in the second chapter. Identified by Freud at both the psychological level as in the somatic level, the death drive extends the roots of unconscious to the biological level, considering the existence of an undifferentiated region between soma and psyche, where the variations of a level impact on the other. This hypothesis is supported: (1) by Ferenczi, who introduced changes in analytical technique with the aim of promoting a regression able to access content from traumatic experiences, and reached archaic and undifferentiated contents, that remains detained in the body as a memory without words, at the margin of language and the further development of the ego, producing psychical and somatic suffering, (2) by the location of the It at the psychic apparatus, connected directly with the somatic forces. By tracing the origin of It until the thought of Groddeck, in the third chapter, we find an unconscious-It that precedes the psychosomatic existence. For Groddeck, the lack of symbolic significance of organic diseases are due to the split between soma and psyche inherent at the explanatory model, for which the disease and the sickness organs are not seen as symbols that can be decoded and resized from the symbolic nature of unconscious. Finally, we show that, in despite the work of Freud provides explanations for the psychosomatic phenomenon in a psychoanalytic perspective it is Groddeck and Ferenczi that provide the clinical features that allow rescuing the psychosomatic phenomenon to become synonymous with lack of symbolization. Despite Freud have remained away of this issue and skeptical about the resolution of the psychosomatic disease through analysis, some of his assertions in his last years show that the creator of metapsychology not remained totally unrelated to that possibility.

In the last years, some expressions such enterprises and supplier cooperation relationship have became used. The main objective of those relationships is to improve the competitiveness of the organizations through costs reductions and quality / flexibility improvements. On this context, this work presents and analyzes, through a case study method, a new form of purchasing management in a stationery products company that is the Brazilian leader of its segment. The enterprise looks for a higher organizational strategy alignment in order to guarantee its leadership. To achieve this aim, the enterprise changed its manufacturing management framework, initially based just on cost and quality issues, to a more responsive paradigm. The work presents all changes inside the purchasing department and the consequent effects to other areas directly related to the acquisition process. A theoretical and empiric analyses is presented, where the research, based on theory, identify the main manufacturing management strategic paradigms and how they can be related to the state of art in purchasing management. Following, the work presents the purchasing management framework of the organization in two different moments: from 1998 to 2001 and after 2002. It will be possible to realize how strategic the purchasing management can become to an organization. The results can be useful to enterprises with the same characteristics or inserted in the same process of change.

The aim of this study was to analyze and compare the competitiveness of differentiation systems that use certification and brands as segmentation strategies in the bovine meat market in Brazil. It was developed a qualitative research in a multi case study including a bibliographic review and exploratory interviews. Five cases were identified and chosen to be analyzed: a case of public certification, two cases of private certification, one of publicprivate certification, and one about brand. The case analysis was conducted using an adapted methodology from agri-food chain studies with a model including competitive parameters from the original proposal as well as new parameters from economy of the transaction cost and propriety rights theories. The model for competitive analysis used thirteen parameters and grouped them in tree blocks: government controlled, firm controlled and quasi controlled parameters. These aspects made possible a better comprehension and knowledge about each case, allowing the competitive analysis among each strategy. Main conclusions are: government parameters had higher negative influence in the competitiveness; lack of institutions and good paper definitions on existent institutions involved in the certifications process are serious problems; the brand case presented better competitiveness parameters.
