Each paper describes a stage of the study, with the final goal of evaluating the effectiveness of different materials to increase parents knowledge on abusive head trauma. The first paper describes a review of national and international literature, which aimed to give a current overview of abusive head trauma (AHT). According to the review, AHT can be defined as injury to the skull and intracranial contents to a child due to a sudden unintentional impact and/or a violent shaking. It occurs mainly with babies and children under 1 year of age and can result in serious consequences for children's development, including death. Although there are specific signs for this type of abuse, it can be mistaken for common child illnesses or accidental head trauma. Thus, it is essential that health professionals are trained for the correct diagnosis. One of the main factors associated with its occurrence is the baby crying, which highlights the need for intervention with parents in order to teach them about child development and safe strategies to deal with the baby. The second paper aimed to investigate the knowledge of newborn parents about some characteristics associated with AHT, such as the pattern of the infant crying in the first months of life, strategies to deal with the crying baby and the consequences of shaking a baby. The results indicated a lack of knowledge about the severity of shaking a baby, as well as a possible Brazilian belief that babies should not be left crying alone. In this sense, there is a need for these issues to be addressed in AHT prevention efforts. The third paper aimed to investigate the belief of Brazilian parents about corporal punishment to infants, and its possible relation with abusive head trauma. As opposed to the international literature, participants of this study did not consider shaking as an appropriate strategy to discipline the baby, agreeing more with this strategy when it aimed to sooth the baby. Furthermore, the results indicated that the caregivers evaluation about the strategy s harm potential seems to influence its adoption in discipline and soothing contexts. Finally, the last paper describes the evaluation of the effectiveness of three different informational materials to increase knowledge of Brazilian parents about this type of abuse. The materials consisted of a video on abusive head trauma, a pamphlet individually read on the AHT, and a video on child safety, unrelated to AHT and used for comparison purposes. The results suggest that reading the pamphlet could be a useful strategy in prevention programs, since it increased participants' knowledge about the severity of shaking a baby, as well as the likelihood of using strategies to distance themselves from the baby when stressed by the crying. Although less significant, the results of the group who watched the video on the AHT also indicated an increase in knowledge about the average number of daily hours of baby crying. It is hoped that the results found in this dissertation will guide future AHT preventive efforts in Brazil.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, O fluxo informacional para as ações de resposta a desastres naturais em áreas urbanas com base na logística humanitária(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2013-02-07) Paulucci, Martha Regina Bortolato Cardoso; Hoffmann, Wanda Aparecida Machado; https://lattes.cnpq.br/7609135667093837This research presents the topic of Natural Disasters and how it has been treated in Brazil and around the world, especially regarding the preparation stage for this confrontation and response, where there are possibilities for logistics support to better serve society affected for such an event. There is much to logistics is being developed in various sectors, from military to business in which they are applied his concepts and techniques to ensure the best balance between the costs of industrial operations, commercial and transportation and customer satisfaction. Currently, several studies have been developed to suit the limited resources to care for victims of disasters being named Humanitarian Logistics. With regard to disaster response operations, many researchers point out that one of the biggest difficulties for logistics activities is the identification of the necessary information, such as demand and its features, which makes the response time inadequate to meet the needs of affected population. This research proposes a starting point for the solution of this issue through the preparation, organization and provision of appropriate information. We performed a literature review about the topic of Natural Disasters and their particularities imply that their phases of pre-impact, impact and post impact, as well as the typical approach front of them related to the various actors responsible. Were exposed to the key concepts and techniques of logistics, humanitarian logistics and information processing. Various data were collected in the literature in order to get a clearer understanding of logistics activities and information that would be useful to decrease the response time, some of the cases studied. It reached a preliminary classification of the main information needs that impact on demand as well as in preparing to meet the same that led to the adaptation of an information flow that enables the provision of information at the initiation stage of the response to policy decision. The integration and provision of appropriate information to administrators Disaster directs better preparation of necessary logistics to respond to natural disasters by reducing the time for the initial collection of information, making the triggering of the response faster, thus improving the quality of care victims.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Prioridades competitivas e inovação em pequenas empresas do setor metal mecânico: um estudo multicasos na região de Sorocaba(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2013-02-07) Lara, Felipe Ferreira de; Guimarães, Márcia Regina Neves; https://lattes.cnpq.br/9250214706491925; https://lattes.cnpq.br/2974103586346330; Borrás, Miguel Angel Aires; Saltorato, Patrícia; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4086015205835355It is believed that the production function must support the competitive strategy, offering an important contribution to the competitiveness of an organization. The production strategy, whose content is determined by competitive priorities and the structural and infrastructural decision areas, plays a fundamental role in this process and should be aligned with competitive strategy. Moreover, recognition of the importance of innovation and technology has intensified to the point of becoming one of the most representative items in a company. Thus, based on the importance of manufacturing strategy and innovation in the organizational context, this study aimed to analyze the influence exercised by competitive priorities in the occurrence of innovations in small companies of metal mechanic sector in Sorocaba/SP. Since small businesses have certain specific characteristics, the study aimed to analyze how these specificities influence the practice of competitive priorities and the occurrence of innovation. To collect and analyze the data, it was used a qualitative approach and method of multicase study. Among the main results, it was found that the quality, flexibility, delivery and cost proved, in that order of importance, as generators of innovation practices in the surveyed companies. The quality and flexibility were closely related to product and process technological innovations. In the case of non-technological innovations, quality influenced the organizational and marketing innovations. Regarding the characteristics of small businesses, as facilitating factors for the practice of competitive priorities and the adoption of innovations, it was observed the specificities centered on the figure of the owner, on internal organization and the influence of the environment. As factors that worked as barriers are related to the specificities centered on the influence of the environment, mainly, and the specific focus on internal organizational of the company.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, O que dizem os intérpretes de Libras do sudeste goiano sobre formação e atuação(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2013-02-07) Jordão, Uiara Vaz; Lacerda, Cristina Broglia Feitosa de; LACERDA, C. B. F. deThis paper try to analyze the characteristics of training the Goiano Southeast Libras interpreters, about deafness knowledge / Libras and check the limits and potentials observed by them for their work with deaf students from the elementary school and / or high school. In this perspective, this research is an exploratory study of the Libras interpreter s condition in southeastern state of Goiás, realized from documental analyze and mix questionnaire, which try to find answers to the following question: what is the training of Libras interpreters in Southeast Goiano and what are the limits and potentials observed by them for their role as interpreters from this training? This paper talk about eleven participants who acted in Basic Education in state schools. The analyzes obtained about what the performers say about their training show us a lot of important aspects that interfere with their professional activities, such as, absence of training covering concepts about deaf education and the role of Libras interpreter; learning based in isolated signals, in short courses whose focus is to teach the language to be user; professionals working in a school with deaf students as if they were experts in the language, and validation of them performance based on hours of study and a certification acquired (or not) after being approved in a test performed on an organ of the state government.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, As memórias de futuro dos discursos apocalípticos da revista Superinteressante(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2013-02-07) Pugliese, Allan Tadeu; Miotello, Valdemir; https://lattes.cnpq.br/9131819326282708; https://lattes.cnpq.br/3775892304974488This paper seeks indications of how discourses of science are transmitted to society and even to find ideological confrontations between these two discursive forces. For this the chosen corpus was constituted from the texts of the Superinteressante magazine, and the main concepts used to support this work were the dialogical theory, memories of the future, the incompleteness and the valuation of aesthetic Bakhtin. We will also use Leon (1999), who shows us the ways and history of scientific discourse. Thus we have as hypotheses of how this discourse is constructed, how it is valued and how it also serves to entertain and inform. We also use old speeches about the apocalypse, as the Holy Bible, the Mayan prophecies and the prophecies of Nostradamus to turn the discourse of the magazine historical discourses, seeking thereby modeling common to apocalyptic discourse. Thus, it seeks to relate all these concepts with the main problem: how language mediates to change the perception of science and society.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Moldagem de briquetes com finos de carvão vegetal aglutinados com parafina: caracterização de algumas propriedades.(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2013-02-07) Oliveira, Ricardo Rezende Luiz de; Yamaji, Fábio Minoru; https://lattes.cnpq.br/4787449634914831; Botaro, Vagner Roberto; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2907189124654066The aim of this study was to evaluate the properties of briquettes made from charcoal fines bonded with paraffin. To prepare them were used three fractions of fine coal (20, 35 and 60 mesh) and a binder, the paraffin. Initially, the coal was fragmented into small pieces, milled and sieved and the fines thus produced were mixed and homogenized to the binder in a proportion of 15, 25 and 35%. The mixtures were taken to the oven, so the paraffin is melted and then taken to a laboratory hydraulic pressure where was applied a compression force of 1250 Kgf.cm-2 for 30 seconds. According to the results, the briquettes produced had an increase in heating power in accordance with increase in the content of binder reaching 8588 kcal.Kg-1 in briquettes bound with 35% of paraffin. The ash content was not affected by the binder since the paraffin produces no ash in the process of combustion. It was also accomplished the combustion index test using a combustion device, where temperature vs. time graphs and mass vs. time graphs were generated in order to learn more of its properties in the combustion process. The mechanical strength was indeed an important feature provided by the binder paraffin to the briquettes reaching a diametrical compression strength of 0.785 MPa, significant value compared to the lack of resistance in the briquettes without the binder, and generating fine in percentage of 5.38%, showing high mechanical strength, essential property in the process of transportation and storage. The assay distribution in paraffin briquette showed that the binder migrated to the edges, characterizing it as a binder type film. The higher the content of paraffin binder, the lower the moisture content of the briquettes. The moisture absorption was minimal with average values of 5%, presenting the moisture protection provided by the binderlistelement.badge.dso-typeItem, O cotidiano, a qualidade de vida e a sobrecarga de cuidadores de idosos em processo demencial de uma unidade escola ambulatorial(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2013-02-07) Bauab, Juliana Pedroso; Emmel, Maria Luisa Guillaumon; https://lattes.cnpq.br/7061230120604196As the number of elderly increases due to the aging population, the prevalence of chronic diseases increases significantly and, among these, dementia stands out being a risk factor for disability and functional loss, promoting a relationship of increased assistance personal care. The Permanent Health Education is a tool that can lead to qualification in health care and a new logic in the process of health work. In this context, the educational role of nurses is strengthened, and the identification Social Representations education that permeate their educational practices aiming changes or stays in health care become relevant. To Understand the Social Representation of Continuing Education of Health Family nurses; analyze how their educational action influence in work processes and identify strengths and weaknesses in the actions of these Nurses. Qualitative research through semi-structured interviews with nurses from the Family Health of small towns in the Heart Region of DRIII Araraquara - SP. After interviews transcription, the contents were analyzed by comparing the thematic category and lexical analysis by software ALCESTE by using the Permanent Health Education references, Work Process and Social Representations. Four categories were made: 1) Influence of Permanent Education in the work process where fragmentation and professional specialty remains the focus of educational activities; 2) The Centralization of nurses in the actions of Continuing Education in where this role have been seen in two ways, one group recognizes that this their role and others consider that it should be shared with the team; Different conceptions of Continuing Education where the education to update knowledge is hegemonic, showing some movements leading to a conception of education to change the work process, and 4) Difficulties in perfoming educational activities characterized by low motivation of the time and lack of time to carry out the activities. The Social Representation Continuing Education for this group is based in the notion of traditional education, although although it is possible identify some movements that approximate the logic of Permanent Health Education, which may lead to a transformation of the representation.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Análise da resposta da frequência cardíaca de adultos jovens saudáveis durante performance em um jogo de realidade virtual de imersão(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2013-02-07) Barbosa, Cláudia Daniele Pestana; Vergotti, Iracema Serrat; https://lattes.cnpq.br/4807690742238071The rehabilitation of people with various disorders has been implemented with the technological advances of virtual reality when using the games immersion in therapeutic programs in clinics and hospitals. However, no studies to guide therapists in relation to levels of physical effort required by the games most often used in virtual reality based rehabilitation. The objective of this research was to evaluate the influence of the boxing game on the Nintendo Wii in heart rate response (HR) in healthy young adults seated and standing positions. We selected 28 college students, male, aged 18 to 30 years. A cardiac monitor captured the FC during periods of rest during the game and recovery under two conditions: in the seated position (S) and in the standing position (St). HR increased with running the game, both in S as St (S = 113.90 ± 18.63; St = 125.75 ± 22.4) compared with rest (S = 76.23 ± 9.68 , St = 83.29 ± 10.07) and recovery (S = 82.98 ± 12.33; St = 82.98 ± 12.33) (p = 0.001). During the game, the heart rate was higher in the St (125.75 ± 22.4) than in S (113.90 ± 18.63), considering p ≤ 0.05. The subjects achieved levels of physical exertion as moderate, playing standing or seated. It is concluded that the boxing game appears to be safe for the system heart healthy young adults. Alert up for this game as therapeutic indication only in young patients who may perform physical activity and moderate aerobic.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Impactos da logística sobre o fluxo de comércio internacional: uma abordagem do modelo gravitacional para o Brasil e seus principais parceiros comerciais(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2013-02-07) Cipolla, Caroline; Faria, Rosane Nunes de; https://lattes.cnpq.br/1172221536399083; Figueiredo, Adelson Martins; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2582161065438214; Souza, Maurício Jorge Pinto deIn recent years, international trade has intensified and liberalized, so that decreases in border costs have become increasingly relevant. Much of these costs are associated with the excessive number of documents required to export or import, the bad infrastructure of ports and airports, among others. It is in this sense that stands out the importance of trade facilitation, principally regarding logistical factors. The trade facilitation began to be discussed at the WTO in 1996, but only in 2004 began the negotiations about it. Several papers have been written for several countries in order to assess the impact of trade facilitation on trade flows. However, studies for the brazilian case are still few, especially those that take into account logistical variables. This study aimed to identify the effects of trade facilitation, especially concerning logistics, upon the pattern of trade that includes Brazil and its major trading partners witch belong to the most important economic blocs. The data extends from 2008 to 2011 and takes into account variables on the quality of transport infrastructure and customs procedure. Gravity models considering Brazil and other 47 counties, witch were responsible for about 78% of brazilian exports in 2011, were estimated. The results evidenced the largest impact of custom variables on trade flows between countries. When considering separate models for blocs of developed and developing countries, the results showed the importance of improvements in terms of documentation, time and cost for blocs of developing countries, as well as improvement regarding the time for blocs of developed countries. With regard to transport infrastructure, good quality of rail was important for both groups. Finally, it was concluded that, for blocs of developing countries, there is a dependency on reforms in trade partners, while in blocs of developed countries the reforms made by the countries themselves have greater impact on trade flows.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Abordagem da saúde da criança na educação infantil: percepção de educadoras(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2013-02-07) Moura, Karina Rumi de; Wernet, Monika; https://lattes.cnpq.br/6056127658896265; https://lattes.cnpq.br/4184385349203169The first years of a child life is recognized as determinant to the establishment of concepts and attitudes that impacts its whole life. In this sense, child day care centers, throughout the relationships offered, are of great influence. The present study contributed with the qualification of these places when assumed as its aim to comprehend the health approach developed by educators of child day care centers. It adopted the Symbolic Interactionism as theoretical reference and the Thematic Content Analysis as the methodological reference. Interviews with twenty educators were developed. Insecurity in health approach revealed to be the central phenomena and the thematic categories health in child day care centers ; Child day care centers contexts as limit and Need of partnerships described conceptions, needs and actions in the process of including health in the educators practice. Reach the integration of health and education in child day care centers is an actual challenge and claim for investments.
