Open institutional repositories (IR) have became a major instrument for providing open access to global scientific production. In addition to providing scientific documents, IR can be used to fulfill institutional interests of the institution, such as promoting the storage of documentation, preserving institutional memory and also bringing worldwide exposure to its production. The implementation of an IR, however, depends on a number of activities, where one of the major challenges is populating it with data. In order to find solutions to improve the process of populating an IR, the aim of this work was to develop a system to automatically extract metadata from the Lattes Platform, inserting this metadata in a reference database, regarded as an intermediate step for populating the IR. Besides easing the submission process, the reference base will be able to support effective marketing campaigns to foster the auto-archival of scientific works. Our approach consists of a qualitative research, developed through action research, within the Federal University of São Carlos – UFSCar. The achieved results comprised the development of a collection of automated solutions essential for gathering and handling metadata to be imported by DSpace. The solution here proposed can be implemented by any institution, with or without an IR, strongly contributing to maximize scientific communication by automating part of the process of implementing and maintaining institutional repositories.

This research, qualitative in nature, seeks to answer the question: What are the meanings given by a group of teachers in relation to continuing education offered by participating in EFAP – Training School and Teacher Improvement? For this, we build a theoretical referential grounding the basic elements related to continuing education of teachers in the last 40 years to the current concepts of continuing education. We draw a panorama of public policy of the State Department of Education SEE-SP contextualizing the creation of EFAP. We address the professional development of mathematics teachers and pointed out the issue of reflective teacher. The investigation was performed considering proposals for continuing education promoted by EFAP during the years 2009 to 2013. For to know the profile of math teachers involved in these continuing education courses we applied a questionnaire to twentyfive teachers. We selected five persons of group of teachers interviewed to deepen our data collection with interviews. To grasp the understanding of teachers about continuing education courses realized by them, the research uses the production concepts of senses and meanings present in the cultural-historical perspective of Vygotsky (2008). We drive us in Bardin (1997) for data analysis. In general, the development of research allowed us to conclude that the meanings attributed by teachers to continuing education courses offered by EFAP are related to a number of factors such as contact with peers, hands-on activities, certification and new knowledge in relations to pedagogical and didactic discussions.

The intense destruction of the environment contributed to the decline and isolation of wild populations, providing an intensification of genetic drift and inbreeding effects. These factors reduce the ability of individuals to adapt to environmental changes, making them more vulnerable to extinction. The two largest predators of the Americas, the cougar (Puma concolor) and jaguar (Panthera onca) are animals which are threatened by the reduction and fragmentation of habitats, especially in the Atlantic Forest, which is one of the most degraded biomes in the world due to human actions. The present study aimed to investigate both demographic parameters and the distribution of the genetic diversity of cougar and jaguar populations within Atlantic Forest remnants. The chosen areas (Serra da Mantiqueira, Serra do Mar continuous and Iguaçu National Park) are among the most important for the conservation of these cats. Mostly non-invasive samples (feces and hair) were collected in protected areas present in those remaining. The depositor species was confirmed by amplification of the ATP6 gene and the samples were individualized using microsatellite loci, which were also employed in population analyses. The sex of the individuals was determined using a small fragment of amelogenin gene. The results suggest that at least seven individuals of jaguars (4F:3M) inhabit the Iguaçu National Park and 12 (5F:7M) are present in the Serra do Mar continuous. These populations seem to be different, with evidence of low gene flow between them (lack of migrant and mixed individuals and pairs of highly related individuals). In Iguaçu is also estimated to exist at least seven cougars (3F:4M), also four (1F:3M) in the Serra da Mantiqueira and 14 (5F:9M) in the Serra do Mar continuous. Genetic structure was detected in this species, but evidencing gene flow maintenance between two detected populations (sign of migrants and mixed individuals and predominantly non related individuals). In both species high genetic diversity could be observed. This study obtained critical information and still unknown, about the demographic and structure of jaguar and cougar populations in the Atlantic Forest remain. These data will provide substantial information that can be used in monitoring, as well as being crucial and decisive in the increase of effective strategies for the conservation of these species.

    Síntese e caraterização de MgxPb(1-x)TiO3
(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2015-08-14) Nóbrega, Jaldair Araújo e; Rodrigues, Ariano De Giovanni; https://lattes.cnpq.br/4881530489438346; https://lattes.cnpq.br/1566935477819559
We report the investigation of structural, optical and electrical properties of the MgxPb(1- x)TiO3 ceramic system produced by mechanosynthesis. The solid state reaction manufacturing method has been proved to be an efficient alternative to manufacture this type of material. By using Raman spectroscopy techniques it was possible observe the effects induced by pressure, from 0 up to 14 GPa, and by temperature from 10 up to 723 K for the samples with x ranging from 0.2 to 1.0. Complementary characterization techniques were also used, including X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Optical Absorption Spectroscopy and Electrical Impedance. XRD enabled the study of structural changes related to the increase in Mg concentrations. Raman analysis allowed the study of vibrational modes, in particular the transversely optical mode E(1TO) of lower frequency in order to characterize the phase transition from tetragonal-ferroelectric to cubic-paraelectric phases. From these results it was possible to construct a phase diagram that relates Mg concentration, temperature and hydrostatic pressure, yielding determine critical temperature (Tc) and critical pressure (Pc) in which phase transition occurs for each sample. Permittivity dielectric measurements were performed for each material, through which it was possible to compare the effects of Mg ratios in the modification of the values of these properties. Finally, a study of optical absorption as a function of Mg concentration was conducted, evidencing changes in gap energies related to the increase of Mg incorporation. The lowest values, 2.86 and 2.9 eV correspond to samples with concentrations of 0.4 and 0.2, respectively. Thus, from a technological point of view, these characteristics are interesting for applications in devices operating in the microwave region.

Scientific discoveries and large experiments usually become object for mass media and scientific disclosure. Contact with this material can, in many ways, contribute to the teacher's work in the classroom. This paper has the objective of studying the potential use of this material in the classroom, through the different dimensions this material can emcompass. Initially, a wide outlook of the insertion of modern and contemporary physics in high school is presented, with it's justifications and challenges. Some characteristics and possibilities for the use of scientific disclosure materials in class are also presented, under the viewpoint of authors located within this interface between education and communication. This paper focuses on what is called the "LHC Case", referring to media material associated to the particle accelerator LHC (Large Hadron Collider), as contextualizing elemnt for particle physics teaching, and also as motivator for other questions, like the relationship between science and society, among other things. A description of a set of newspaper articles about the LHC case published between 2006 and 2013 is presented, as well as a critical analysis of this set, using a few criteria such as the news theme, focus and content. From this analysis of the news, a minicourse was elaborated and ministered for students of UFSCar's college preparatory course, as a space for data collection, with the purpose of evaluating the potential use of media disclosed news in the selection and development of content related to modern physics in high school. Results point at the possibility of the use of news in classes, fulfilling different roles according to the teacher's objective. In the LHC case, the possibility of using news with different characteristics to motivate discussions which establish relations with science, technology and society has proven feasible and interesting, as it can contribute for the construction of a less distorted and more critical view of science, and giving meaning to the teaching of particle physics in high school.

This paper considers the evolution of the student´s needs for assistance in the Federal University of Sao Carlos (UFSCar), in Brazil, after the implementation of the Affirmative Actions by the year 2013. It is considered the year 2007 as previous reference implementation of Affirmative Action, which took place in 2008. The research topic was chosen on the grounds that their results relating to a partial analysis of the implementation of a public policy process, can contribute to improving the effectiveness of this policy. The overall objective of this research was to analyze whether there were changes in the demand for student assistance, and sought to also check whether, after the implementation of affirmative action, changes were needed in the work routines of ProACE (Sector of community and student affairs of the UFSCar) and in their departments directly involved with the student assistance. The research also presents the partial survey about the year of implementation of Affirmative Action in Brazilian federal universities, and to this end, consultations were held on the websites of these federal universities. The focus in this case was to understand the context in which the UFSCar was inserted when it decided to set affirmative action policies for admission of students. The method used is an exploratory research, based on documentary and field research. The conclusion of the study is that there was a great evolution in demand for student assistance in the analyzed period, as growth of 157% in the number of fellows, the tenfold increase spending on assistance grants and increasing by 84% the number places in student housing in addition to the creation, in 2011, of a home assistance fellow, but that can not be attributed only to the implementation of Affirmative Action, because until 2012 the UFSCar was involved in the process of expanding of REUNI (a government policy of expansion of places in Brazilian universities). Despite of the PROACE departments having to serve more students than they used to do, it was not observed significant changes in the routine to serve wider public benefited by student assistance.

In this thesis, we construct distribution functions for analysis of lifetimes with the focus in scenes of latent risks inspired in models of the carcinogenesis process. Some properties of these distribution functions are presented and discussed as well as the viability front the models in literature. In some cases the models were describes as long-time model where a part of population presents infinite lifetime, i.e, on the population in study some objects are not susceptible (or immunes) for the event of interest. Some models present complexity in the maximization and was necessary the implementation of routines of maximization that allows us the control some variables that are not offered in routines in tradicional programs. The implemented routine is available in appendix.
