As the monomer composition of the EPS is presented as heteropolymers often composed of a diversity of monomers and that the diversity of EPS between algae is huge and taxonomically close organisms each other have compounds slightly different, made us believe in their use for chemotaxonomy of microalgae. The use of EPS for this purpose, was due to the ease of extracting them from cultures, their facility to be analyzed, together with their specificity and their constitution by only one or two fractions. This study goal was to verify the possibility of using EPS as features for a possible chemotaxonomic approach. Thus the characterization of algae polysaccharides was essential for a better understanding of the differences and similarities found in the EPS. Thus, throughout the chapters we will look at the characterization of specific groups which had most representatives for the selected genres. These genera were: 1) Ankistrodesmus; 2) complex Selenastrum / Messastrum / Curvastrum; 3) Monoraphidium; and 4) Kirchneriella. The lack of bibliographic material thinning policy has been an obstacle for the administration of the library with the aim to remove the collection that is not interest of the users of the BCo and consequently make the better use of the library's physical space, such as the inclusion of new acquisitions and/ or expand study spaces to users. The aim of this mastering dissertation is to evaluate the bibliographic collection of BCo and propose a thinning policy to contribute to the rationalization of physical space. For this, are considered the lack of relevant circulation of the collection of the last 3, 7 and 10 years respectively, by existing knowledge area on the campus of UFSCar in San Carlos city. To achieve low porosity, which ensures the high performance of the product, is required the formation of large amount of liquid phases during sintering and the flow of these liquids are responsible for the undesirable pyroplastic deformation. Some factors exacerbate the problem: large and rectangular shapes and faster firing cycles. Moreover, the production of tiles through a more sustainable route, the dry route, lacks studies evaluating the effects of processing method on pyroplastic deformation. Thus, this study aimed to contribute to reducing the incidence of pyroplastic deformations in porcelain stoneware tiles, in order to identify the main variables involved and suggest maneuvers for achieve this goal. In the first stage, technical porcelain stonewares were formulated using common raw materials in this type of manufacturing and prepared by wet route. The main difference between the batches was that 10% of the feldspar was replaced with other raw materials such as potash feldspar and quartz in different granulometries in order to change the characteristics of the liquid phases and to minimize pyroplastic deformation. The characterization of the batches before and after firing, as well the assessment of physical and chemical / mineralogical effects of the raw materials on deformation behavior was essential to identify the variables prevalent in deformation. In second stage some batches from previous step were prepared by dry route method, and then the same tests were performed in order to evaluate the effects of processing route on pyroplastic deformation. The results indicated that batches prepared by dry processing route are less likely to deformation mainly due to heterogeneity of microstructure. In both stages, it was found out that the viscosity of the liquid phase formed during firing is the variable that affects most significantly the pyroplastic deformation of the porcelain obtained by both processing routes studied.
