Research in agroecology has grown in the last decades, there has been an increase in the number of undergraduate, technical and postgraduate courses in universities, as well as the creation of research lines in agricultural development centers. The search for alternatives that may respond to the socio-environmental crisis in which we live in is latent. In this sense, the present research aims to describe and analyze the role of scientific research in agroecology at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar). To accomplish this goal, we will present an extensive documental research on the scientific production about agroecology in the mentioned university, interpreting it and showing points of consonances and dissonances. Our method is based on descriptive statistics and semi-structured interviews with prominent researchers. Our main sources of data are the Directory of Research Groups in Brazil and Lattes Platform, both maintained by National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). The temporal delimitation of the research covers the period from 1992 to 2018. Among the results and conclusions of the study is the identification that, although research in agroecology is still emerging in UFSCar, it has a strong character of university extension, with networks of researchers establishing themselves beyond the traditional boundaries of academic production.

First, we introduce the basic concept of minimal surfaces and develop some results in the general theory of minimal surfaces. In the second part, we are interested in the Simon-Smith Min-Max approach to prove the existence of minimal surfaces in compact tridimensional riemannian manifolds (COLDING; DE LELLIS, 2003). This is done using the concept of varifolds, object studied in Geometric Measure Theory. In the third part, we consider min-max minimal surfaces in tridimensional manifolds and we prove some rigidity results under the hypothesis of positive scalar and Ricci curvatures (MARQUES; NEVES, 2012). An important tool here is the so called Ricci flow.

The current sociocultural reality requires that people possess knowledge about various subjects, that they are able to analyze causes and effects and they can position themselves in the face of social debates. On the other hand, Brazilian education presents several types of problems, including the shortcomings of teacher education and the constant challenge of learning, with oneself and with others. The training of citizens with values and the knowledge necessary for critical participation can be promoted through the relations between Science, Technology and Society (STS) in science teaching, from the early years of elementary school and it becomes a great ally to children's literacy and development of children. To achieve this aim, teachers must understand their theoretical and methodological assumptions for the development of thematic activities with their students. Due to the relevance of teacher training, a partnership was established between the researcher and an experienced first year teacher of Elementary School with the objective of analyzing the results of a collaborative training proposal, based on the reflection about science teaching in the STS perspective for professional teacher development. Thus, this research was based on the following question: What are the contributions of a proposal of collaborative training based on reflection on the teaching of science in the STS perspective for professional teacher development? For the constitution of the collaborative work, eight meetings were held with discussion of theoretical references on reflective teacher and STS teaching approach, as well as for the planning and development of a teaching situation, from this perspective, about planetary system. The following instruments were used to compile data: transcription of the videos of the meetings, written records of the questionnaires (initial and final), records of the professional trajectories and the diaries of the researcher and the teacher. By characterizing it as a qualitative research, we opted for the discursive textual analysis, in which the texts were: separated by their meanings, categorized, analyzed and interpreted. Thus, three categories of analysis were identified. The first one covers all the situations in which there was the reflection on the practice itself in the teaching of Sciences. The second one refers to the discussions related to the theoretical reference about reflexive teacher and the teaching of sciences emphasizing STS, that is, reflection on the relation theory and practice. The third covers a discussion concerning reflection on the teaching profession. In summary, we consider that the collaborating teacher had the opportunity to analyze and reflect on the practice itself as well as the conditions of the teaching system to which it belongs, identifying factors that affect its methodological choices. Among the contributions of the formative proposal, we highlight the recognition of the learning process of teaching as a “continuum” throughout the career; the importance of interaction with peers to favor the attribution of meaning to new experiences, as well as previous experiences. We also emphasize the promotion of reflections in a systematic, rigorous and disciplined way that requires the valorization of attitudes of both parties and favors professional teacher development.

Introduction: AIDS remains a major public health issue. There was control of new cases of HIV infection in the second half of the 1990s and a new increase with peak in 2010. This increase is probably due to the risk behavior in the population, the existence of undiagnosed individuals and a low adherence to antiretroviral therapy . The management of antiretroviral therapy aims to offer recommendations for preventing transmission, treating infection and improving quality of life. It is a dynamic, complex, multifactorial process that is comprehensive and difficult to measure, and there are several ways described and validated to measure adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART), with different applications. Objective: To assess adherence and risk factors associated with adherence to antiretroviral treatment in people living with HIV / AIDS. Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study. Adult individuals diagnosed with HIV / AIDS using antiretroviral therapy for at least three months in SAE of São Carlos city were included. RESULTS: A total of 220 patients were evaluated, of which 58% were men, with a mean age of 43 years, 41% with a primary education, 26% men who have sex with men - MSM, 55% in the AIDS stage, 91% with more than one year of follow-up. Adherence to antiretrovirals in the sample studied was 62%. The factors associated with adherence in the univariate analysis were living alone, to be a man who has sex with men, not having an active sex life, do not smoke, having a CD4 count greater than 350 cels / mm3, having an undetectable HIV1 plasma load, having no history of treatment interruption and having a score greater than 101 on the Self-efficacy Expectation Scale. Factors associated with adherence in the multivariate regression analysis were do not smoke, having no active sex life, and undetectable last viral load test. Conclusion: The results may contribute to the identification of groups at higher risk of nonadherence to ART and emphasize the need for investment in measures that promote greater adherence to treatment.

Titanium and its alloys are used as biomaterials because their excellent combination of high corrosion resistance, low modulus of elasticity and biocompatibility. However, titanium and its alloys cannot meet all the clinical requirements. In this sense, in order to improve the electrochemical and bioactive properties, this thesis aims to evaluate the effect of the severe plastic deformation as well as the surface modification treatments on the corrosion resistance and bioactivity of titanium alloys (α' + β) and (β). The titanium alloys, Ti13Nb13Zr (α' + β) and Ti35Nb7Zr5Ta (β), were deformed by the high-pressure torsion (HPT) method. Afterward, surface modification treatments, such as the anodization and chemical treatments, were carried out both in samples non-deformed and deformed by HPT. Finally, corrosion and bioactivity tests were performed in simulated body fluid (SBF). The tests were performed on samples with treated surfaces compared with non-treated surfaces in the deformed and undeformed conditions. The samples’ microstructures were analyzed by confocal laser microscopy (CLM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Hardness tests were also performed after the HPT process. On the other hand, surface modification treatments, and the formation of apatite in bioactivity assays were evaluated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), with chemical analyzes carried out by dispersive energy spectroscopy (EDS) and phase identification by X-ray diffraction (XRD). In general, the corrosion resistance of the titanium alloys improved with the anodization treatment. Apatite deposits were observed on Ti13Nb13Zr alloy samples, in the conditions non-deformed and deformed by HPT. The Ti35Nb7Zr5Ta appears to have a lower apatite-formation ability compared to Ti13Nb13Zr.

In the past decades, public policies in the most diverse areas have been formulated for indigenous peoples. These policies, often engendered by imperatives of national development, are not always congruent with the singularities of these peoples. This paper proposes an anthropological research about the situation found among the Xavante indigenous people, in which the construction of housing promoted by political programs like PNHR and MCMV causes a lot of criticism and questioning by part of the supposed benefited ones, putting in evidence a complex entanglement of relations that are produced from the Xavante modes of inhabiting the enviroment. From an ethnographic case, audiovisual productions and literature review on the Xavante, this research is intended to highlight the multiple relationships established between these people and the myriad of beings who co-inhabit the world, presenting as houses, bodies and things are related to culture and historical transformations, serving to operationalize reflections about themselves and others.

Starch films appear as an alternative to problematic non-biodegradable plastic films; however, they have low water resistance and require the addition of a hydrophobic component to be viable substitutes for non-biodegradable films. Beeswax is a biodegradable and hydrophobic substance, mostly composed of esters, hydrocarbons and fatty acids. In this context, the objectives of this work were to reduce the interaction of corn starch films with water through the incorporation of different levels of beeswax and evaluate the surface hydrophobicity and the water vapor permeation properties of these films. The films were obtained via continuous casting to establish a pre-pilot processing scenario. The application of continuous casting to obtain the starch/beeswax films resulted in a productivity, at least, 50 times greater compared to the conventional bench casting reported in the literature. Advanced scanning electron microscopy images showed the immiscibility of the beeswax domains and the starch matrix, sufficient to alter the interaction of light with the films, reducing their transparency and clarity and increasing their opacity. In addition, these domains induced the starch matrix to crystallize even with the reduced crystallinity of the wax in the domains. The interaction between the wax and the starch, suggested by ATR-FTIR, directly influenced the properties of the films. The tensile strength was reduced by 39%, the maximum and at break elongation were reduced by 60% and 58%, respectively, while the elastic modulus increased by 327% with the wax content. Finally, the addition of increasing levels of beeswax increased surface hydrophobicity by 100% and reduced the water vapor permeability of the films by 200%, reaching the goal of making them less susceptible to the effect of moisture.

INTRODUCTION: Bereavement is a process that occurs with the loss, by death, of a significant person. This is a painful experience that leads to the need to adapt to the new situation. Maternal bereavement becomes peculiar because it reverses the expected cycle of life, generating feelings of guilt and shame, accompanied by grief and the feeling of having failed in the role of mother. Occupations change during the bereaved process, as their constituent elements - doing, being, becoming and belonging – are affected, causing a crisis in maternal daily life. AIM: To understand the bereaved mothers’ occupations in their everyday life. METHOD: A cross-sectional, exploratory and qualitative study that used the Oral History technique, in the biographical narrative modality. The inclusion of the participants came from a group of mutual aid and selection, by the “snowball” technique. Ten mothers are included in the study. The data were generated from three collection instruments: field diary, timeline, and semi-structured interview. The results were categorized and analyzed by content analysis using deductive and inductive methods. RESULTS: In the field diary, the main topics addressed in the mutual help group were recorded. The timeline allowed us to visualize the “birthday reactions” and to identify, chronologically, the mothers' experience during the dates associated with bereavement. From the interviews, six categories emerged: The notification of the death of the son; The experience of motherhood before and after the death of the son; The meanings constructed by mothers after the death of their son; The future; Religiosity and spirituality helping to coping with bereavement; and, Occupational responses in the face of changes imposed on the everyday lives of bereaved mothers after the death of their sons. From the results, it was possible to systematize the occupational responses in the daily lives of bereaved mothers. DISCUSSION: Triangulation was used as a methodological strategy to broaden the understanding of the studied phenomenon. Identified that mothers perceived their personal and spiritual growth, found meaning and benefits in loss, did the changes in identity necessary to continue life. Also, they regain familiarity with their surroundings and was able to live authentically in everyday lives, enabling them to felt happy again. The results reaffirmed the bereavement process as a singular and individual experience, however, intensely permeated by social aspects, and mainly related to social and emotional support for coping with the bereavement. The study contributed to the understanding of the process of adaptation to bereavement through the occupational responses in maternal everyday life. Thus, depending on the form, purpose, and meaning of the occupational responses presented after to the death of the son, it was possible to categorize them into adaptive strategies that help the mother to adapt occupationally in everyday life. Besides, they support the reconstruction of meanings in response to bereavement and changes in everyday life and occupations. They also allow revisions about themselves, about desires, priorities, and the continuity of life in the world profoundly modified by the reality of the son's death. CONCLUSION: The occupational therapist, by identifying the elements of the bereavement adaptation process, assists the mothers in the reconstruction of the occupational meanings, in the encounter with the familiarity of the environment and in the accomplishment of the necessary changes for the continuity of life, repositioning in practical and emotional terms the absence of the deceased son in everyday life.

The Law and Directives for the Brazilian Educational System (Lei de Diretrizes e Bases da Educação Nacional/LDB), promulgated on December 20, 1996, which establishes national educational guidelines for the contents of the curricula of the public and private schools network in Brazil, was amended by Law 10.639/2003 and subsequently by Law 11.645/2008, establishing respectively the obligation to teach and learn about the History and Culture of Afro-Brazilian, African and Indigenous Peoples of Brazil in Basic Education. This ethnographic research sought to establish a dialogue with different agents who, directly or indirectly, were part of the process that established the law 11.645. From the fieldwork carried out at SECADI / MEC with its Technicians in Educational Affairs, documents collected in the MEC, and conversations with Indigenous leaderships, the aim was to learn about different discourses and practices that are mobilized around the law.

Wood presents several advantages when compared with other materials employed in the civil construction sector. In Brazil, the standard ABNT NBR 7190: 1997 establishes test methods to determine physical and mechanical properties. However, tests demands procedures on specialized and high-cost laboratories. The Brazilian code displays different values for relations between shear strength and compression strength parallel to the fibers. This study aimed to investigate, considering the results of the compressive strength and shear strength parallel to the fibers tests, the relationship between these properties obtained with the statistical assistance of least square method and considering ten hardwood wood species. The results were compared with the relationship values disposed on the Brazilian Code ABNT NBR 7190:1997, being the greatest coefficient found 86,4% higher than the coefficient presented by the Brazilian code, considering the set of all species. Regarding the variation of the relationship between the investigated properties, considering the different classes of wood resistance, no study was identified that decreases in the values of the greatest coefficients as the classes increases, a situation that ABNT NBR 7190: 1997 exposes in its text, thus presenting another divergent result.

The target group of learners with special educational needs (SEN) in Higher Education totaled 37,927 of the 8,027,297 enrollments in 2015, corresponding to 0.47% (INEP, 2015b). It should be noted that, despite the small percentage, this public has been growing significantly in Higher Education in recent years, which indicates the constant need to create even more effective policies to guarantee access: admission, stay and institutions of higher education (HEI). In this sense, the data collected in the present research provide indications of how the Special Education in Higher Education in Brazil offers an opportunity for revision and orientation regarding the recognition and registration of SEN students in the Higher Education Census. Thus, we aimed to analyze and map SEN students in Higher Education in Brazil, taking as a data source the year 2015 and, more specifically, presenting a panorama of Higher Education based on the microdata of the Higher Education Census. In order to reach the proposed objective, we carried out a quantitative research with a descriptive and exploratory method. Data were processed using the SAS® program (Version 9.2) and software R (Version 3.3.1), which enabled access to the microdata through tables. Through Microsoft Office Excel®, the graphs and other tables were assembled, as well as the verification of the values found. As we understand that behind each of these numbers there is a life story, we perform its interpretation in the light of their interaction with the historical and social context. We also identify the imprecision of various data, usually due to misunderstandings in the collection of information (which may be caused by self-declaration or by those who feed such data in the INEP system), or by the impossibility of correcting data once informed and published, which generates distortions of information in relation to reality. In addition, despite the limitations of the data, it is clear that the SEN students are disadvantaged in relation to other people, since the conclusion of the course is still a challenge to be overcome, and access has been restricted to a small portion. For a better overview of Brazilian Higher Education, it is necessary to construct a data collection instrument at the national level, so that, at the time of the student's enrollment in the IES, all the information related to their condition is duly considered and the data presented in the Census indeed express a reliable picture for the construction of public policies.

The medical record, designated as a collective construction derived from multiple specialized registries, shows the assistance procedures performed and aim at improving the quality of attention to the user. In Occupational Therapy, the medical records aim to reflect the professional reasoning and chronologically enable the visualization of the course of the therapeutic intervention and the occupational performance of the patient throughout the care process. Despite the great importance, the record in medical records presents as an unexplored topic in the scientific field of the Brazilian Occupational Therapy. With the objective of identifying and understanding the teaching-learning process of the medical records in the hospital context existing in the undergraduate courses in Occupational Therapy in Brazil, this quantitative-qualitative study was delineated in two stages: a) documentary research - that consisted in the survey and analysis of documents referring to theoretical disciplines and of professional training of hospital contexts offered by undergraduate courses in Occupational Therapy in Brazil, b) field research - application of an online questionnaire with teachers responsible for occupational therapy disciplines in hospital contexts and students in the practice of a vocational training in the hospital. The data obtained were analyzed by descriptive statistics and discourse of the collective subject. As results, it was verified that the analyzed documents do not gift contents that sustain the practice of documentation, however, students and teachers generally signal, to carry out assessment, intervention and discharge records in accordance with the items recommended in legislation. As fragile aspects of the records, the occupational therapeutic diagnosis and the prognosis were identified. It was verified that the process of teaching-learning of the record in the medical record occurs mostly linked to the activities of professional training, which can be problematic when observed the information that not all students practice internship in the hospital field and that there are students who have access only for medical records. The main teaching-learning strategies employed in undergraduate courses were the discussions of clinical cases and supervised practices, with the main difficulties encountered in this process being the difficulty of access to the medical records, coupled with the dynamics of the service and the lack of standardization in the terminology of the profession. It is believed that the low frequency of insertion of information on prognosis in the medical record correlates with the specificities of the hospital field and that the scarce insertion of the occupational therapeutic diagnosis is linked to the absence of national discussion about this elaboration. Regarding the teaching strategies adopted, it is believed that these are aimed at instigating the development of professional reasoning and reflective critical capacity in relation to intervention, a factor that may contribute to the qualification of the medical record, given the better perception of the role of the occupational therapist and his praxis in the hospital. It is concluded that in general there are weaknesses in the teaching-learning process of the record in medical records, a factor that demands investments in the qualification of training for the documentary practice, which will favor better recognition of the profession

The possibility of scientific discussion is the core of the practical research routine and, for this, researchers must find sufficiently detailed resources and descriptions in the published papers in order to obtain the same results within the enough margins of experimental errors. Among the available resources, the data collected during the research e summing it is essential, because the result obtained should be the product of its rigorous analysis. In this scope and associated with distributed consensus mechanisms, the Blockchain data structure can ensure data reliability in a transparent, decentralized and immutable way, and emerges as a possibility to contribute to the progress of science through new ways of processing large amounts of data collected in a scientific research. In this sense, the general objective of this work is to analyze Blockchain technology and its possibilities inserted in scientific communication and research data management. The specific objectives are to describe the management of research data and the data lifecycle; identify the main concepts, structure and functioning, related to Blockchain technology; and point out Blockchain technology and its potential applications in Science. This is an exploratory and theoretical research of qualitative character. The results present the survey conducted on Scientific Communication and its relationship with Information Science, focusing on the importance of data management and metadata for the description of research datasets, and their impact with Blockchain. It is considered that the moment is premature to affirm that Blockchain or any of the technologies in its surroundings, in its current stages, will solve all problems related to the reproducibility crisis. In the short term Blockchain is likely to be applied to specific points in the flow of scientific research helping to resolve mistrust in the data and methodologies used. Since the applications related to the theme are still in embryonic phases of development, implementation and acceptance, it is not even possible to affirm that their implementations are close to the objectives to which they were designed, thus enabling numerous opportunities for research and developments for Information Science.

Knowledge Organization System (KOS) are information resources representation tools used in Information Science, the KOS background includes the study of the concepts and use of digital technological instruments. The Simple Knowledge Organization System (SKOS) represents this junction between the KOS theoretical foundation and its conceptual frameworks, with the use of digital representation tools, favoring the representation of a traditional KOS in digital environments. However, the increase in controlled vocabulary publications, available in digital environments, points to the need to identify new evaluation procedures for these instruments. In this sense, the general objective of this research is to identify evaluation parameters of the SKOS standard, for the representation of controlled vocabularies. This research is theoretical and methodological, with a qualitative approach and exploratory character, which aims to examine the themes of representation, organization, semantic technologies and vocabulary availability in digital environments. As a result of this research, evaluation parameters are presented that can be applied in SKOS-coded vocabularies, thus serving as a reference source that can assist research in this theme. It is concluded that the difficulty of evaluating controlled vocabularies is still present, in this sense, the use of parameters that can help this process contributes to the advancement of discussions that include this theme in the field of study of the Knowledge Organization.

The present work was developed from four objectives: (1) biochemical characterization of 63 rhizobacteria, associated with Jatropha curcas, as for potential for promoting plant growth and enzyme production; Of these isolates, 27% tested positive for biological nitrogen fixation, 73% produced IAA and 69% solubilized inorganic phosphate. Regarding the antagonism test the rhizospheric isolates showed antagonistic activity with potential for biocontrol of the following phytopathogenic fungi: Alternaria alternata (39%), Colletotrichum sp. (42%), Fusarium oxysporum (30%) and F. profileratum (36%). In vitro enzymatic activity tests revealed that 30% of rhizobacteria showed amylolytic, 19% cellulolytic, 40% sterolytic, 26% lipolytic, 30% pectinolytic and 70% proteolytic activity. Among the 27 bacterial isolates identified by partial sequencing of the 16S gene, the presence of Bacillus genera was observed; Chryseobacterium; Enterobacter; Klebsiella; Pseudomonas; Serratia and Staphylococcus. (2) Characterization and comparison of diversity by metagenomic analysis of the bacterial community of jatropha rhizospheric soil from three treatments: non-irrigated / dryland; drip irrigation and pivot irrigation. Where it was possible to identify in the samples, sequences of Acidobacteria and Chloroflexi phyla, 4 orders (Acidimicrobiales, Chthoniobacterales, Gaiellales and Rhodospirillales), 7 families (Solibacteraceae, Chitinophagaceae, Acidobacteriaceae, Tepidisphaeraceae, Nitrosomonadaceae, Gemmatimonadaceae and Xanthobacteraceae and 8 genera, Acidothermus, Bacillus, Bradyrhizobium, Bryobacter, Reyranella, Sphingomonas, Steroidobacter and Variibacter. There was no significant increase in diversity in any evaluated treatment. However, species richness was increased in the drip and pivot areas when compared to the non-irrigated area. The bacterial groups that differed significantly between pivot irrigated treatment and rainfed treatment are the Bryobacter genus and Filo Chloroflexi. (3) Evaluation of plant growth promotion of maize (Zea mays) in greenhouse when inoculated with bacteria endophytically isolated of Jatropha curcas. These bacteria were considered potentially positive in the previously performed in vitro biochemical characterization in relation to the potential of plant growth promotion of these isolates. It was not possible to prove the ability to promote growth under greenhouse conditions by the transmission of only endophytic bacteria by seeds evaluated in the proposed methodologies. (4) Evaluation of the antagonistic potential of Jatropha-associated bacteria with potential to control the development of three species of Lasiodiplodia subglobosa, L. euphorbicola and L. pseudotheobromae, phytopathogenic to Jatropha. We evaluated 135 bacterial isolates associated with Jatropha curcas as their ability to inhibit the growth of phytopathogens. 36 isolates (26,67%) had good rates of antifungal activity. Eight isolates (5,9 %) were shown to inhibit in vitro growth above 75%. phytopathogen, especially the rhizospheric isolates of the genera Pseudomonas sp. and Bacillus subtillis.

The assessment of the information technology service quality provided by private or public organizations to its internal clients is an essential requirement to achieve a competitive advantage. The present study aimed to evaluate the quality of information technology support services in a federal higher education institution (IFES) and to analyze how quality in services, with its dimensions, is related to satisfaction, in the context of IT service management in an IFES. Therefore, a systematic literature review on quality assessment models in IT services was performed, which provided the theoretical basis for operationalizing the SERVQUAL instrument. After the theory articulation, a survey was conducted where the sample was obtained with a respondent rate of 37% of the population of 271 users. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics and structural equation modeling technique, which supported the refinement of the instrument. The results exposed gaps in the five dimensions of quality during evaluated services. The dimensions of empathy and reliability reached the highest values. It was further observed that the quality of services, with their respective dimensions, positively influences user satisfaction. IT-based SERVQUAL proved to be adequate for assessing the IT support service quality provided by an IFES. Aforementioned allows the instrument to be applied as a reference by other IFES to improve IT service management. Additionally, the research reinforces the existence of a positive relationship between service quality and satisfaction, allowing managers to properly allocate available resources.
