These units are configured as important spaces of basic social protection and special social protection of high complexity. The Community Center is designed for the development of socio-cultural and educational activities and the Reception Unit works as a temporary home, offering protection to people in situations of abandonment, threat, or violation of rights. Data from the SUAS Census point out that there were 1,438 occupational therapists linked to social assistance in 2017. 206 of them (14%) worked in Community Centers and 283 (20%) in Reception Units. Objective: This work sought to identify, describe, and analyze the practices of occupational therapists in SUAS, particularly in two social assistance units with different levels of social protection: Community Center and Transition House (in Portuguese, Casa de Passagem). Methodology: The methodological procedure of the study was structured from the monitoring of practices with a view to in-depth contact with the dynamics of the functioning of occupational therapists’ services and actions. In order to do so, visits and observations were made in loco at a Community Center and a Reception Unit, together with two professionals, for five consecutive days in each unit. Field diaries were elaborated and descriptively analyzed after the end of the follow-ups. Results: The results were delineated from the descriptive analysis of the field diaries and presented by unit. In this way, it was possible to gather information about the professionals, in which it is possible to highlight: actions for the articulation of formal and informal support networks, with an emphasis on social support, mediated by actions in/with the daily lives of the monitored people. Conclusion: It was apprehended that such actions occurred in the sense of expanding/creating/strengthening social support networks of users and groups linked to the units, in line with the objectives of the social assistance policy. It is expected that the presented reflections may compose part of the set of efforts to contribute to subsidies to the practices of occupational therapists inserted in socio-assistance units.Item type:Item, Narrativa do processo da minha formação médica(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2020-11-01) ;Agudelo, Jhon Aanderson Bonilla ;Fagá, Mariana de Almeida Prado ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/7471491410735720https://lattes.cnpq.br/7041069503708277This Course Conclusion Paper will be prepared in accordance with the guidelines of the Pedagogical Project of the UFSCar Medicine Course. Fundamental studies can support the development of these materials and the adoption of processing routes resulting in lower environmental impact should be considered to produce them. This thesis presents the development of Al2O3-based refractory macroporous ceramics prepared by direct foaming with the help of mechanoquantum simulations. Liquid foams stabilised with Al2O3 particles were developed after partial hydrophobisation of their surfaces with nontoxic amino acids. These foams attained extended lifetime and were stable for more than 100 hours. To produce solid samples derived from them, a binder based on calcium aluminate cement was developed based on mechano-quantum simulations. This binder is comprised of an aqueous suspension of calcium aluminate particles stabilised by gluconate, a non-toxic molecule. The hydration reactions of calcium aluminates were reactivated with a weak organic acid and allowed the production of solid samples with elevated porosity (≥ 70%) and cold crushing strength reaching 30 MPa after thermal treatment. Also, the in situ formation of a phase with lower volumetric density was studied to counteract the volumetric shrinkage of solid samples after firing. Calcium carbonate was used and, after processing at 1600°C for 5 hours, calcium hexaluminate (CA6) was identified. The formation of this phase helped to reduce the linear shrinkage from values close to 19% down to 4% maintaining the total porosity above 80%. The results presented in this thesis pointed out that the combination of computational techniques on quantum level and experimental routes can favour the development of new materials and advanced technologies combining superior performance and a higher commitment to the environment.Item type:Item, Validação distribuída do algoritmo paxos no modelo arbitrário não malicioso(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2020-11-03) ;Santos, Enrique Sampaio dos ;Vieira, Gustavo Maciel Dias ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/9020007815886406https://lattes.cnpq.br/3454276903084296Distributed algorithms have been increasingly used because of commercial and technical factors, especially when the aim is to obtain scalability or high availability of data. Regarding high scalability, stands out the algorithms in which a set of processes interact through the exchange of messages in order to perform the same actions and remain in the same state, called replication algorithms. However, to meet this high demand, it is not enough for such algorithms to be functional, but they must also be fault tolerant, in order to avoid data corruption. Fault tolerance in distributed algorithms is not a trivial topic, and algorithms that tolerate arbitrary failure tend to be costly and complex to implement. In order to tolerate several fault types while keeping the complexity low, the model of arbitrary non-malicious faults was created, where only faults caused by intentional invasions to the environment are not tolerated. This dissertation proposes a distributed validation mechanism for the Paxos algorithm in order to guarantee the properties of the model, making it tolerant to non-malicious arbitrary faults.Item type:Item, Articulações entre ensino e pesquisa em ciências da natureza na formação docente para a prática pedagógica crítica: o olhar dos licenciandos(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2020-11-03) ;Silva, Nicole de Castro ;Silva, Antonio Fernando Gouvêa da ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/9621931288117213https://lattes.cnpq.br/8306328859248792Teachers can turn to what they saw in the classroom in planning and running their classes, running the risk of reproducing oppressive practices that do not make it possible to construct knowledge meaningfully. This research seeks to investigate whether the Freirean aspects present in the Biological Sciences Degree course at UFSCar Sorocaba influence the students' practices by exercising the teaching role, in order to promote the criticity and emancipation of the citizen, according to the Freirean assumptions (AMARAL; BERBEL; FREIRE; LIBÂNEO; MARIANI; SAUL E SILVA; VASCONCELOS; ZÓFILI). For this investigation, we used the bibliographical survey, documentary analysis of the pedagogical political project of the Course and the semi-structured interview. Presenting duality between theory and practice and raising new problems in relation to the application of critical theory in uncritical times.Item type:Item, Importância dos programas de qualidade de vida para a saúde e desempenho dos colaboradores(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2020-11-03) ;Ventura, João Victor ;Ramos, Paulo Henrique Bertucci ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/0148103598149034https://lattes.cnpq.br/7431366767939218Quality of life at work is too important for companies to remain competitive in the market and for workers to stay motivated, aligned to the organizational strategy and consequently more productive. The study aimed to analyze the impacts generated in the workers when implementing a quality of life at work program, the challenges to correlate the concepts together with the individual complexity of each collaborator, to verify the consequences of habits in people's lives and the importance of health and well-being in productivity. The methodology used was exploratory of descriptive nature, with data collection through a questionnaire, being a study with quali-quanti analysis. The results showed that there is an increase in the presence of quality of life programs, but it is still below what is considered ideal. There was a contextualization of the programs made by the collaborators and an evaluation as to individual satisfaction. The work presented a limiting factor, which was the lack of proximity with the respondents. The issues involved in the work comprise themes of central interest for deepening and refining the importance of applying quality of life at work programs.Item type:Item, 3D face recognition with descriptor images and shallow convolutional neural networks(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2020-11-05) ;Cardia Neto, João Baptista ;Berretti, Stefano ;Marana, Aparecido Nilceu ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/6027713750942689https://lattes.cnpq.br/6844092194166622Nowadays, there is an increasing need for systems that can accurately and quickly identify a person. Traditional identification methods utilize something a person knows or something a person has. This kind of methods has several drawbacks, being the main one the fact that it is impossible to detect an impostor who uses genuine credentials to pass as a genuine person. Besides, in some cases it is necessary to discover the identity of people in a covert manner. One way to deal with these types of problems is to use biometric identification. Face is one of the biometric features that best suit the covert identification since the current technology is able to provide high resolution 2D face images captured by low cost cameras, in a secret way, at a distance and without cooperation from the people being identified. However, in general, biometric systems based on 2D face recognition perform very poorly in certain scenarios when the input images present variations in pose, illumination, and facial expressions. One way to mitigate this problem is to use 3D face data, but the current 3D scanners are expensive and require a lot of cooperation from people. The use of deep convolutional neural networks is another way to mitigate the traditional 2D facial recognition drawbacks, but it can be unfeasible, due to their large training data and huge computational power requirements. Therefore, in this thesis, we introduce a hybrid approach, based on Shallow Learned Feature Representation, for 3D face recognition, which is focused on minimizing the amount of data, the computational power and the processing time required in the training stage, while being able to operate close to state-of-the-art methods and being able to transfer the learning made on high-resolution data to low-resolution data. Another important aspect of the proposed hybrid approach is the possibility to operate in both classification or feature-extraction modes. Experimental results obtained by our hybrid approach on EURECOM Kinect Face dataset, a low resolution depth dataset, showed a rank-1 recognition rate of 90.75% on the hardest case of classification mode, and 73.26% on the feature extraction mode, which are better than the rates obtained by related state-of-the-art methods with the same protocol and dataset. So, we conclude that the proposed hybrid approach helps to attenuate the cross-resolution differences and that the utilization of an input built with more discriminative data, such as low-level hand-crafted features, allows the utilization of shallow CNN for 3D face recognition.Item type:Item, Discordantes aliados: diplomacia e estratégia militar do Brasil na formação dos blocos da Segunda Guerra Mundial(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2020-11-05) ;Kopanyshyn, Emanuelle ;Rodrigues, Lidiane Soares ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/5343968646005766https://lattes.cnpq.br/8681124999367298The theme of this study is diplomacy and the military strategies adopted in Brazil between 1930 and 1942. In the Brazilian background, the country had several social and political changes involving the governor Getúlio Vargas and groups allied to him. In the foreign background, there were negotiations for the formation of military blocs towards the World War II (1939-1945). The aim of this study is to analyze the political thoughts and public actions of two State agents who were essential to the period: the diplomat and chancellor Oswaldo Aranha and the Army Staff lead officer Góes Monteiro. This search is basead on discourses, letters, biography, annuals and diaries, in a qualitative basis. Although the literature indicates a political polarization in the Estado Novo between the pro-liberal diplomat and the pro-central military, this study aims to understand the confluence between both agents and to comprehend how the foreign policy was benefited from this confluence. The present study verify that, even though they defended different political positions, Aranha and Góes Monteiro adopted a collaborative policy, which resulted in the alignment with the United States of America, starting from the same conception and perception of national interest: financing of heavy industry and military reequipment.Item type:Item, Indicadores de financeirização nas empresas com maior valor de mercado(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2020-11-05) ;Carmo, Marcelo José do ;Donadone, Julio Cesar ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/7643906508178259 ;Sacomano Neto, Máriohttps://lattes.cnpq.br/0000793038362058The economic process of financialization is considered by several authors as the development of dependence and subordination of productive capital to financial capital. Besides, financialization is also considered as a change in the conception of control of firms, in force today, for which the maximization of shareholder value becomes the main concern. In this doctoral work, we set out to analyze the financialization indicators in the ten companies with the highest market capitalization worldwide, through multi-case research and an exploratory approach. We did not intend to exhaust the debate on financialization or explain everything that happens in companies, but rather to develop the construction of indicators, from the perspective of Economic Sociology. Some indicators that makeup financialization can be highlighted, such as 1) Comparison between the sources of profitability; 2) Shareholding Composition and Shareholding Acquisitions. 3) Mergers and Acquisitions; 4) Origin of the directors; 5) Payment of Compensation to Executives; 6) Payment of Dividends to Shareholders 7) Employee Salaries and 8) Employment. Preliminarily, we have already found that the services or financial services segment has constituted an important fraction of the profitability of some companies, exceeding production profits. The shareholding structure of companies and shareholding acquisitions are increasingly in charge of large investment funds and financial institutions, which already surpass the largest banks in market cap. The managers of the companies, even those who came from an academic background focused on the industry, make decisions that are very attuned to the financialized mentality, with the payment of millionaire compensation to executives, reinforcing the expansion of a layer of wealthy managers. Dividends and stock buybacks have been draining almost all of the companies' net income, making them work emphatically to pay dividends to shareholders. This is a significant qualitative change over the past forty years, which has been transforming the production area towards creating shareholder value. Meanwhile, the salaries of most employees are below the average salary of all ethnic groups in the USA, for example, as we will see. The level of employment is also an indicator of financialization, sometimes dropping dramatically, now increasing, as in the cases of Amazon and Apple, which have created thousands of jobs in recent years, but through cheaper labour through outsourcing. In this work we have analyzed the ten companies with the highest market capitalization worldwide, applying the eight indicators described above. With this debate, we hope to contribute to the research agenda of economic sociology and finance, through empirical research and its analysis in the light of the existing theoretical production.Item type:Item, Sono e fragilidade: um estudo com idosos inseridos em contexto de alta vulnerabilidade social(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2020-11-05) ;Mota, Sonia Gonçalves da ;Santos-Orlandi, Ariene Angelini dos ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/1334146454214813https://lattes.cnpq.br/9949532367029378Currently, poor sleep quality and frailty syndrome can be considered important public health problems due to the high prevalence among the elderly and the negative effects on the well-being of affected individuals. Through the early identification of these conditions, interventions can be planned to reduce spending on health services and improve the quality of life for these individuals. Studies have been found in the literature on the association between sleep and frailty; however, they are few in number and demonstrate inconsistency in the results. Most showed that night sleep was associated with frailty. Is it the same when it comes to elderly people living in poverty? The aim of this research was to analyze the relationship between sleep and frailty among elderly people registered in a Family Health Unit in a context of high social vulnerability. This is a descriptive, cross-sectional study, based on the quantitative method of investigation. 81 elderly people were interviewed using the following instruments: Characterization of the elderly, Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI), Frailty criteria proposed by Linda Fried (adapted), Mini Mental State Examination, Geriatric Depression Scale, Katz Index for basic activities of daily living and Lawton's scale of instrumental activities of daily living. Fisher's exact test and Pearson's χ2 test were used. The level of significance was set at 5%. The results showed a predominance of elderly women, aged 60 to 69 years, white, with a partner, Catholics and retirees. Regarding sleep, 50.6% of the elderly had poor quality sleep, 33.3% good quality sleep and 16.1% sleep disorders. As for frailty, 61.7% of the elderly were pre-frail, 33.3% were frail and 5.0% were not frail. Statistically significant results were found between sleep and: level of frailty (p = 0.026) and the criterion “slow gait” (p = 0.000). Approximately 29.6% of frail elderly and 9.3% of robust / pre-frail elderly scored for sleep disorders. Approximately 30.4% of the elderly with slow gait and 10.4% without slowing presented sleep disorders. It was concluded that frail and slow gait elderly people had a higher prevalence of sleep-related complaints when compared to pre-frail and non-frail elderly people and those who did not have slow gait, respectively. These results can sensitize primary health care professionals in order to identify complaints early and implement assertive strategies in order to avoid adverse health outcomes and improve the quality of life of these individuals.Item type:Item, Multilayered refill friction stir spot welding of AA2024 and aluminum foils for electric vehicle battery application(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2020-11-06) ;Gera, Dennis Balbino ;Plaine, Athos Henrique ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/8992899102845408 ;Alcântara, Nelson Guedes dehttps://lattes.cnpq.br/3123107570992184Different processes are currently being used to weld aluminum and copper in a multilayered configuration in battery pouches for the automotive industry. The methods most used are mechanical joint, ultrasonic welding, laser welding, and resistance spot welding. However, these techniques have limitations such as added mass, cracks, intermetallic compound formation, and thermal conductivity. Refill Friction Stir Spot Welding (refill FSSW) is an alternative process for welding overlap joints. In this work, the microstructure and properties of a multilayered weld of AA2024/CP-Al produced by refill FSSW were investigated. CP-Al foils and AA2024 sheets with thicknesses of 0.013 mm and 0.3 mm, respectively, were used. Statistical analysis was conducted to assess the influence of processing parameters on the joint's mechanical properties, process temperature, contact resistance, and microstructural features. Specimens with up to 50 layers of CP-Al foils were successfully welded. Response surface methodology indicated that plunge speed was significantly influential to LSS and process temperature; plunge speed was found to influence process temperature significantly, and rotational speed showed no influence in any of the investigated properties. The one-factor-at-a-time analysis showed that plunge depth, plunge speed, and rotational speed alter the AA2024 island's morphology, the bottom sheet's deformation, and the number of unbonded interfaces in the center of the weld. Microstructural analysis depicted intermetallic compounds, eutectic constituents, and unbonded foils; however, these features were not detrimental to the weld's mechanical properties. A maximum LSS of 1890 N, and minimum process temperature and contact resistance of 167ºC and 0.183 mΩ, respectively, were found. Therefore, mechanical properties were superior to aerospace application requisites, and contact resistance values are smaller than conventional lithium-ion batteries' internal resistance. Infrared analysis showed that temperatures below 80ºC are obtained at 30 mm from the welding tool, indicating the possibility of using refill FSSW in batteries while avoiding cell degradation.Item type:Item, Estratégias para o avanço do manejo sustentável de águas pluviais urbanas no Brasil(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2020-11-06) ;Vasconcelos, Anaí Floriano ;Barbassa, Ademir Paceli ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/2979012440240781https://lattes.cnpq.br/6595801339743126Sustainable urban stormwater management (SUSM) has been studied for some decades and its adoption is growing. However, despite the benefits, its adoption in Brazil is not widespread. Thus, this research aimed to assess the status of SUSM in Brazil and propose strategies for its progress. In this sense, a survey about the SUSM-related barriers in Brazil and the solutions available to their overcoming and effective adoption of SUSM was carried out. Twenty barriers were identified, five of which were considered very important: “Lack of design and maintenance standards”, “Lack of long-term planning”, “Lack of dissemination and knowledge”, “Reluctance to change”, and “Lack of incentives”. The barriers “Lack of capacity or experience” and “Lack of proper laws” also composed the main barriers list, because they are related to all the other barriers investigated. Hence, their overcoming would lead to greater benefits. The search for solutions to the barriers identified eight solution strategies and 80 implementation measures. The solution strategies were correlated with the investigated barriers, providing solutions for overcoming SUSM-related barriers for any location, not only for Brazil. The assessment of the current situation and of the applicability of the strategies/measures to Brazil was carried out through interviews with technical professionals from Brazilian city halls with experience in SUSM (Belo Horizonte – MG, Curitiba – PR, Porto Alegre – RS, Rio de Janeiro – RJ, São Carlos – SP, and São Paulo – SP). Although the municipalities have different experiences, some measures adopted were similar, such as “Runoff quantity control” and “Laws that require SUSM adoption and preservation of pre-development hydrological conditions in new development and renovations”, which were considered easier to be adopted. This led to the conclusion that the experience influences the perception of viability of the measure adoption and, therefore, the resistance to its implementation. Among the experiences of the surveyed cities, some stand out: the recent universalization of the mandatory adoption of SUSM, in Belo Horizonte; the Department of Stormwater Sewers, in Porto Alegre; and the recent search for integration between urban planning and stormwater management, in Belo Horizonte and Porto Alegre. In addition, looking for opportunities for the adoption of SUSM in each city is also recommended. Considering the progress in the whole scenario of SUSM in Brazil, 11 strategies/measures were considered as action opportunities. Their adoption would comprise all the strategies/measures recommended for the overcoming of the barrier “Reluctance to change”, essential for the paradigm shift in the urban stormwater management. Among the action opportunities, the measures "Laws that require SUSM adoption and preservation of pre-development hydrological conditions in new development and renovations" and "Propagation of SUSM" would help to overcome a greater number of barriers and, therefore, should be prioritized. For the progress of SUSM in the country, more studies on the theme should be carried out, especially regarding documentation and sharing of the efforts in SUSM adoption in the Brazilian municipalities.Item type:Item, Interpretação psicanalítica e criação literária: “A cabeça da Medusa” de Freud(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2020-11-09) ;Lima, Graziele Gonçalves de ;Namba, Janaina ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/5016873975206205https://lattes.cnpq.br/4967536542415230The Medusa’s Head is a posthumous article published in 1940, although it was written in 1922. In this manuscript, Freud performs the psychoanalytical interpretation of a mythological symbol. It is possible to find other mentions about Medusa in published articles, for example, some aspects are pointed out in The Infantile Genital Organization (1923) when Freud examines the “sexual difference”, the figure also appears in the 29th conference: Review of the theory of the dream (1933). Freud, by commenting on some images that are frequently present in dreams that express the fear of castration, places the mythological figure of Medusa's head as one of the representations of this dread. In this dissertation we seek to discuss The Medusa’s Head (1922 [1940]), supporting us in some reinterpretations of the myth to elucidate, from the technical point of view, how it is possible to carry out the interpretation of a mythological narrative. The investigation was divided into the following segments: Literary creation and its relationship with fantasy; the uncanny in the literature and in the head of Medusa and the development of child sexuality. As a final part, we highlight Medusa's figurations, especially the strong association between feminine and horror. We conclude that considering Freud's statement that the artist has access to the laws of psychic processes and manages them to transmit on his works something of his unconscious fantasies, with myths, literature, and art, we can have access to a symbolism that for the subject is full of meaning.Item type:Item, Uma reflexão sobre a saúde mental dos estudantes de Medicina: importância do exercício físico durante a graduação e ação das atléticas no meio universitário(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2020-11-10) ;Carrijo, Gabriel Rodrigues ;Carbol, Maristela ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/9852217198710064https://lattes.cnpq.br/8260788080092653The aim of this study was to reflect and review the role and benefits of sports and athletics in the universities, especially among Medical students who presents with high rates of psychological disorders. The text develops from an analytical approach on neoliberalism and its influence on the authoritarian management model, bringing to the school surroundings strategies and ways of distributing work similar to those used in the business logic of making a profit. This logic of work only intensifies the authoritarianism imposed by the existing subjects in the school and destabilizes the fidelity of the school work to the main objective and social role of the school: to humanize the subjects through the access to the knowledge and culture accumulated historically by humanity, allowing the subjects see themselves in history and gain autonomy. The project aims to defend the impossibility of building a democratic management from neoliberalism and the impossibility of fulfilling the social objective of the school from an authoritarian management. As well as the constructed text and research points out that democratic management is the only way to organize the school community in a citizenship and with social quality. The conclusion was built based a documentary and data analysis of an opinion poll conducted with parents, teachers, staff and students on the establishment of a possible truly democratic management in the schools of the São Paulo State Education Network.Item type:Item, Reflexões sobre minha graduação: minha trajetória no curso de medicina da UFSCar(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2020-11-10) ;Ramalho, Tiago Vitor ;Luna, Willian Fernandes ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/1860768963636452https://lattes.cnpq.br/8563226117361517The completion of course work is an instrument that, through narrative and theoretical background, allows the student to describe the medical course at the Federal University of São Carlos. As specific objectives the research sought: to understand the experiences, challenges and proposals developed in this field of action; address the perception of literacy teachers in the face of this process; analyze the approximations and distances between the legal documents and the effectiveness of the proposal. The methodological procedures adopted were of a qualitative nature, carried out through a preliminary survey in the CAPES Theses and Dissertations Catalog (36) and in the UFSCar Thesis and Dissertations Repository website, totaling eleven researches analyzed; and, subsequently, the application of questionnaires, involving twelve literacy teachers working in the first year of elementary school, in São Carlos- SP . The theoretical framework that supported the study was supported by authors such as Tardif (2000, 2002, 2013) and Nóvoa (2017, 2019a, 2019b), for the discussion of professional knowledge and Soares (2004, 2005, 2017) for the discussion literacy. Among the results we can point out that disciplinary and curricular knowledge, coming from training courses and experiential knowledge, resulting from professional practice, are the sources that teachers most mobilize to teach, based on theoretical currents of various areas of knowledge, in a committed and conscious way, focused on the role of mediation and customer diversity. The data also reveal a critical and lack of chance of public policies and the lack of monitoring, training and support of EMS in relation to the demands presented by students, teachers, families.
