    Water scarcity and contamination of water bodies are relevant concerns in the present time. The utilization of microalgae represents a promising technology for enhancing domestic wastewater treatment processes and the production of compounds of interest such as lipids, carotenoids, and dyes. During the tertiary phase of effluent treatment, the use of microalgae primarily aims at the direct removal of nutrients such as phosphorus, nitrogen, and carbon through assimilation for biomass production. However, there are several obstacles that hinder the full integration of microalgae usage in wastewater treatment plants. This present study aimed to assess and enhance the photobioreactor developed by C4 Científica, with a focus on optimizing nutrient removal and biomass production. Batch experiments were conducted over periods ranging from seven to ten days, using different sewage sources and light conditions to quantify the removal of total nitrogen, phosphorus, and carbon, as well as the biomass production of the microalga Chlorella sorokiniana. The modification of the photobioreactor led to a total nitrogen removal of 85% and a total phosphorus removal of 90%, along with a maximum biomass concentration of 325 mgL-1 of dry biomass. Furthermore, a 99% removal of colony-forming units of E. coli was achieved. The enhancement following the photobioreactor modification resulted in a 36% increase in biomass production, a reduction in the LOG phase, and improved consistency in the rates of total phosphorus and total nitrogen removal. The addition of 5% (V/V) CO2 did not show improvement in productive parameters or nutrient removal efficiency. The Photobioreactor exhibited a pronounced nutrient removal capacity and can be employed for wastewater polishing, making the effluents suitable for disposal into water bodies after treatment.

    In this research project, we investigate the method known as \textit{continuous dynamical decoupling}, which is based on the use of continuously applied external fields to maximize the fidelity of quantum logical operations performed on a qubit experiencing decoherence. In our model, we assume an open quantum system in which a qubit continuously interacts with its surroundings, and thus we say that the qubit is coupled to the environment, which irreversibly disturbs it, causing decoherence. The \textit{continuous dynamical decoupling} tells us that assuming a known error operator and an environment represented by a field of scalar bosons at a finite temperature, decoherence during logical operations can be efficiently reduced by applying a superposition of two external vector fields: one rotating orthogonally to the direction of the other, which remains static. The main objective of this project is to improve the method by finding optimized directions of external fields that, when continuously applied, maximize the fidelity of logical operations performed on a qubit. To achieve this, we will need to numerically solve the master equation of the system – where the external fields will be applied with variable directions (variable angles) during the optimization process – in order to find the best protective fields for a given logical operation. Finally, we present the results obtained for a qubit in an environment with ohmic spectral density and briefly discuss the findings.

    It is common in the industrial and clinical context to seek more precision, accurate, accessible and cheaper equipments. Therefore, it is important for these fields to have a way to compare the agreement of new devices with one that already exists and that is assumed to be reliable and accurate. On the other hand, it is increasingly common that systems record data over time with a very fine discretization, creating functional data. Considering this scenario, we propose the approach “Predictive Probability of Functional Agreement” (PPFA), a technique for analyzing the concordance between functional data under a Bayesian perspective, which allows determining whether two systems can be used interchangeably (a nomenclature used in studies of comparison of measurement system). The PPFA generates an intuitive measure of agreement (the predictive probability) of the curves from a new subject (from both devices) differ by less than an acceptable amount for the field. An example of equipments that need further analysis on the degree of agreement are the Optotrak and the flexible electrogoniometer. These systems are used in gait studies. The Optotrak is a laboratory device and generates accurate data, while the electrogoniometer is an ambulatory and cheaper equipment than Optotrak. In order to carry out the comparison study between the Optotrak and the electrogoniometer with our Predictive Probability of Functional Agreement tool, we need to assume a model. Therefore, we present the Bayesian Functional Gaussian Process hierarchical model (BFGP). The PPFA is a simple and intuitive approach, while the BFGP is an easily interpreted model for the gait problem.

    Amphibians are a group of vertebrates that have had a great decline in recent years due to the great anthropic interference in the environment, causing loss of habitat, inclusion of invasive species and the manifestation of diseases. These factors contributed to the extension of species and the decrease of different individuals. With these problems in mind, there is an increasing concern to conduct minimally invasive research, preserving the integrity and well-being of the specimens as much as possible, and providing quality research with satisfactory results. Therefore, for this master's thesis, a systematic review was carried out plus a scientometric analysis of scientific articles on alternative less invasive methods (which totaled 61 articles). In addition, an analysis was made of how portable glucometers can be adapted to studies with amphibians as a less invasive method for collecting blood glucose data as a potential biomarker indicative of stress. The systemic review revealed several areas of research in which alternative and less invasive methods have been applied in studies with amphibians, including molecular analyses, morphometric measurements, molecular analyses, and marking of individuals, imaging exams, even the reuse of carcasses of animals that were run over on roads to obtain biological certification. Despite the application of these methods, there is an urgent need for incentives for scientists to expand the adaptation of these methodologies in their studies, especially in the areas of environmental monitoring and ecotoxicology, in which the use of animal models is frequent. In the second chapter of the dissertation, the comparison between the blood glucose values between males and females of R.ictérica showed that there was no significant difference between the sexes for the values obtained through the portable glucometer (F = 1.15; p = 0.63 ), followed by the biochemical analytical method (F = 1.047; p = 0.66), indicating homogeneous glycemic values. When grouping the data of each as independent, the mean blood glucose values were similar (F = 1.050; p = 0.4819), which did not occur when dependent, showing difference in incidence (p < 0.0001; r = 0.979). Thus, it was shown that the glucometer is efficient, but tends to overestimate the glycemic levels.
