OPTIMIZATION OF THE CONTROLLED ELECTROOXIDATION OF METHANE ON THE SURFACE OF GOLD ELECTRODIES FOR THE FORMATION OF VALUE-ADDED MOULECULES: This work aims to contribute to the understanding of the partial electrooxidation of methane to methanol. The challenge of this proposal is the unfavorable reaction kinetics of this hydrocarbon in oxidizing due to its tetrahedral and non-polar molecular geometry. These factors make it difficult to break the carbon-hydrogen bond to form methyl radicals followed by the addition of oxygen, and another aspect is the molecule's low solubility in water. The most common process for obtaining methanol is by reforming methane, which requires high temperatures (700 to 1100 ºC). However, electrocatalyst systems are a promising alternative, given their ability to do this under milder conditions (25 ºC and 1 atm). In this thesis, an H-shaped electrochemical cell system was used to collect data by varying the pH, type of electrolyte, concentration and cell potential in order to create a data set that could predict, using linear and polynomial regression algorithms and support vector machines, which condition would be the most favorable for methanol production on the gold electrodes surface. In this sense, 0.1 M lithium carbonate at a potential of 0.2 V vs. Ag|AgCl and 0.1 M potassium hydroxide at a potential of 1.0 V vs. Ag|AgCl were the most promising production systems. Furthermore, the literature has always credited potential and pH as determining factors in the selectivity of electrochemical reactions, but this study shows that the radius of the cation in the selected material plays a much more important role in the electrooxidation of methane to methanol. Finally, this is a technology that can be developed in synergy with the already prestigious green hydrogen (GH2), which uses renewable or clean energy, through photoelectrocatalysis of solar energy. However, the advantage of methanol is that it is easy to store as it is a liquid, rather than an explosive gas like H2(g).

At the same time that the competitive scenario is seen in organizations, which seek to maximize profits and consumer satisfaction, there are also global concerns about increasing productivity and its impact on the environment, such as the emission of greenhouse gases, mainly CO2. To assist in decision-making and achieve reduction of economic and environmental costs, linear modeling and optimization techniques can be adopted and implemented. Through these techniques this dissertation aims to study the problem of integrated production planning and vehicle routing considering the impacts of reducing carbon emissions in furniture industries. The consideration of carbon emissions is linked to vehicle fuel emissions and applying this view brings a more realistic scenario as it considers the load transported in vehicles and speeds. Through experiments will be analyzed the gains from considering the unloading of vehicles, the speed selection that the vehicle adopts and how much the inclusion of carbon costs can affect the trade off between production and routing. An additional model was also developed that considers a heterogeneous fleet in relation to CO2 potential emission

(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2023-12-18) Saud, Conrado; Neris, Vânia Paula de Almeida; https://lattes.cnpq.br/0268728255033469; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-4059-8700; https://lattes.cnpq.br/5627511338826522; https://orcid.org/0009-0003-6777-465X
Depression, one of the most prevalent mental disorders, significantly impacts the lives of millions worldwide. This mental disorder not only causes severe health problems but also negatively interferes with the lives of those who suffer from it, many of whom do not seek treatment. In the university population, the prevalence of depression is even higher than in the general population. This work proposes a computing infrastructure that uses digital phenotyping data collected by mobile and wearable sensors, such as smartphones and smartwatches, to identify Brazilian university students with a possible depressive profile (PPD). Adopting the Design Science Research (DSR) methodology, the study develops a computational solution whose effectiveness is validated through a descriptive exploratory analysis of the collected data. This approach seeks not only to validate the feasibility of the proposed infrastructure but also to facilitate the identification of behavioral patterns associated with the PPD. The approach includes the use of the "Human in the Loop" method for removing data outliers and employs the t-SNE (t-distributed Stochastic Neighbor Embedding) technique for reducing high-dimensional data and identifying patterns in interpreting the results. This work aligns with the principles of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) intending to contribute to the areas of mental health and computing.

Definição, dimensões e fatores moderadores do engajamento: validação de instrumentos de pesquisa multidimensionais
(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2023-12-18) Kortz, Bruno José Viana; Piato, Éderson Luiz; https://lattes.cnpq.br/1439984077907071; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-6403-3288; https://lattes.cnpq.br/1995668463248245; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-9813-3148
The term 'engagement' initially conveys commitment between two parties, particularly in its origins, where 'engagement' represents the commitment between betrothed individuals at the moment of marriage. However, the concept of engagement is addressed in various fields of knowledge, such as psychology and applied social sciences, when referring to political and social engagement. In recent years, this concept has gained prominence among managers and academics, especially after its association with behaviors exhibited by social media users. However, its theoretical meaning and practical application are not yet well-established. Consequently, this research aims to analyze the meaning of engagement by identifying the moderating factors influencing its level across various dimensions in a business context. To achieve this objective, we conducted a systematic literature review and bibliometric analysis of 688 articles from the Scopus and Web of Science databases, aiming to comprehend the term in the context of business and its applicability. The findings revealed a lack of consensus regarding the theoretical definition, a scarcity of relevant empirical studies on its measurement, and primarily, the existence of distinct dimensions of engagement within the business context, particularly focusing on customer engagement, employee engagement, and organizational engagement. Subsequently, two research instruments were devised for customer and employee dimensions, alongside the development of an instrument based on theoretical review for the organizational dimension. These instruments underwent a four-stage validation process involving ten expert judges from the research field who are actively involved in professional practice. These experts contributed to the cultural and practical adaptations of the instruments for their application in the national context, utilizing the Content Validation Coefficient (CVC) for quantitative validation of the collected data. The validated instruments hold the potential to contribute to measuring the level of engagement across different organizational dimensions and empirically validating the concept within the national context. From an academic standpoint, the research provided a theoretical definition of engagement in the business context and proposed a new theoretical concept: engagement orientation. From a practical perspective, the research offered a definition and clarification of what engagement entails and how to strategically investigate it, aiming for superior organizational performance. Furthermore, the research opens numerous avenues for studying each dimension of engagement and its potential correlations. It also brings forth significant social contributions, as organizations, by understanding the benefits of engaged stakeholders, can strategically and practically address social and sustainable issues, ultimately aiming for a better perception of their performance

The Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) impacts both diagnosed children and their families significantly. Domains frequently affected include communication, social interaction, and restrictive and repetitive patterns of interests or activities. These patterns manifest before school age and may result in deficits in various areas of development. This study suggests that an online intervention aimed at teaching social skills may bring significant benefits to mothers of children with ASD. This can result in improvements in knowledge about ASD, increased confidence in their parenting skills, and substantial improvement in family interactions. The proposed online approach has the advantage of being accessible, overcoming geographical and logistical barriers. This is particularly relevant in contexts where resources for in-person intervention may be limited, making research an effective way to explore accessible and effective options. This study seeks to fill a gap in research and provide empirical evidence on a specific online intervention for mothers of children with ASD. The research was designed as an intervention study. By focusing on mothers and their parenting skills, this study acknowledges the importance of a supportive and understanding environment for mothers of children with ASD. The overall objective is to analyze an online intervention on social skills for mothers of children with ASD. The specific objectives of this study are: to describe common needs of mothers of children with ASD; to analyze the frequency of co-occurrence of social skills classes and themes in intervention sessions; to analyze the social validity of the intervention; and to analyze the secondary effects of the intervention on children's Social Skills repertoire. The participant sample was non-probabilistic, convenience type, with the participation of six mothers. The instruments used were: Identification Form; Brazil Economic Classification Criterion; Social Skills, Behavior Problems, and Academic Competence Inventory for Children; Social Validation Questionnaire; and Follow-up Questionnaire with mothers. Data collection involved conducting six individual training sessions with each mother, during which the researcher provided guidance on personalized strategies for each child. Additionally, it included sending support materials and continuous feedback through an instant messaging application. Records were made from the application of the instruments: researcher's field diaries, recording of all meetings held, materials, and videos shared by the mothers. For analysis, there was tabulation of specific results per instrument and descriptive data, organized thematically. ATLAS TI software was used for data analysis. The results of the Social Skills, Behavior Problems, and Academic Competence Inventory for Children indicate that there were changes in the classification of children's social skills based on the intervention conducted with the mothers. Thematic analysis occurred, which allowed dialogue with the theoretical framework in four themes: mothers' need for guidance on how to mediate interaction with peers; improving the family-school relationship; difficulty controlling children's screen time; and difficulty reporting what happened at school. The results of the ATLAS TI software indicate that "communication" was the most cited skill and "affection/cooperation" the least cited. It was evident that there is less co-occurrence between "responsibility" and "making and maintaining friendships" and "responsibility" and "affection/cooperation", with greater co-occurrence between "communication" and "social poise", as well as between "communication" and "interpersonal problem solving". Thus, the data obtained meet the proposed objectives, manage to indicate positive aspects of the proposed short-term online intervention, especially from the mothers' discourse and the results of social validation, and suggest that future research be conducted.
