    Upon sectioning a hollow core slab into two ribs, a structural element with an innovative manufacturing process is obtained, here referred to as hollow core purlins, proposing a solution for roof structures. Although it offers a potential increase in production for manufacturers of precast concrete elements, hollow core purlins lack regulatory prescriptions, as they do not include transverse reinforcement. Therefore, the objective of the study is to conduct an experimental program to verify the technical feasibility of the structural element and to propose a calculation procedure that reproduces the behavior of the piece. To achieve this goal, six samples of hollow core purlins were studied. Initially, visual analyses were conducted on the manufacturing characteristics and variations in the cross-sectional geometry of each purlin unit. Subsequently, the pieces underwent a non-destructive positive bending strength test to characterize the stiffness and effective tensile strength values of the concrete. Following this, tests were performed to determine the resistance to shear force in order to identify the rupture mechanism of the elements. Finally, the experimentally obtained values were compared to theoretical calculation values based on the concrete compression strength, derived from factory quality control, to establish a relationship that demonstrates the tension shear mechanism, as published by the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards in NBR 14861 (2022), as the calculation procedure that best represents the behavior of the pieces by reproducing considerations about the cross-sectional geometry. The tests conducted in this study demonstrated that the pieces are capable of resisting shear forces, which are considered the main concern in the structural analysis of the element and ensure structural performance in accordance with established regulatory standards, thus ensuring the technical feasibility of hollow core purlins.

    The way urban development occurs in cities generally leads to major changes in the physical environment, such as increased demands on natural resources, environmental degradation, and alteration of the natural surface. With the process of urbanization, the surfaces of urban centers tend to become impervious, which alters the natural hydrological cycle of water. With the increase in surface runoff rates generated by this sealing, there is a need to implement more robust and complex stormwater management systems. Due to the recurrent flooding scenarios observed in recent years, discussions on urban drainage have become frequent, especially in developing countries such as Brazil. In these discussions, sustainable approaches to urban drainage have gained prominence, and much research has been conducted on their application. However, it is still clear that there are challenges to be overcome to better understand the use of more sustainable techniques that seek to restore, in some way, the natural water cycle. Given this scenario, this work aims to apply hydrological modeling in an area of recognized social vulnerability in the municipality of Juiz de Fora-MG, susceptible to recurrent flooding. Despite having an urbanized occupation, this area, far from the urban center of the municipality, has suffered few actions by public authorities, as happens in many vulnerable areas in Brazil. Using a predefined model, it is expected to simulate the application of detention basins in the area in question, as well as the application of more conventional techniques, to evaluate the impact generated on the local macrodrainage system. After carrying out the proposed simulations, it is expected to obtain, by way of comparison, a relationship between the implementation, maintenance, and operating costs of these approaches.

    Preditores de injúria renal aguda em pacientes hospitalizados por covid-19

    Acute kidney injury is one of the most complex conditions in patients hospitalized with COVID-19. However, predictors of acute kidney injury associated with COVID-19 are not yet well understood. Objective: To investigate the incidence and predictive factors for the development of acute kidney injury in patients hospitalized with moderate and severe COVID-19 during a seven-day hospitalization period at a university hospital in the countryside of São Paulo. Methods: This is a quantitative, retrospective cohort study, in a seven-day time series. Information was extracted from medical records of individuals over 18 years old (N= 360), diagnosed with COVID-19 and admitted between March 2020 and March 2021 in the hospitalization sector. Acute kidney injury was defined based on the Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes guidelines. Sociodemographic data (age, age range, sex, skin color, marital status and education) and clinical and laboratory conditions (severity of COVID-19, stages of acute kidney injury, Charlson comorbidity index, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, myocardial infarction, chronic lung disease, dyslipidemia, heart failure, cerebrovascular disease, diabetes mellitus with complications, dementia, cancer, peptide ulcer, mild liver disease, hemiplegia, peripheral vascular disease, rheumatoid arthritis, acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, death, peripheral oxygen saturation, supplemental oxygen on admission, urea, serum creatinine, estimated glomerular filtration rate, albumin, hemoglobin, leukocytes, lymphocytes, platelets, c-reactive protein, D-dimer) were collected. All ethical precepts were respected. Statistical analysis: The probability of developing acute kidney injury in patients hospitalized with COVID-19 was analyzed using the Kaplan-Meier survival curve, and the log-rank test was used to calculate its statistical significance. To analyze factors associated with the risk of developing acute kidney injury, Cox multivariate analysis was performed. Results: A total of 360 patients without acute kidney injury at hospital admission were included in this study. Of these, 36 (10%) developed acute kidney injury within seven days of observation. Survival analysis demonstrated that there was a significant difference in the incidence of acute kidney injury in the groups aged greater than or equal to 60 years (p=0.02), sex (p=0.04), hypertension (p<0.01), diabetes mellitus (p=0.04) and heart failure (p<0.01). Multivariate analysis confirmed that age (HR 1.027; 95%CI 1.003-1.051; p=0.03), serum creatinine levels (HR 17.795; 95%CI 4.104-77.156; p<0.01) and C-reactive protein on admission (HR 1.052; 95%CI 1.009-1.098; p=0.02) were factors associated with the risk of developing acute kidney injury in patients hospitalized with COVID-19. Conclusion: The incidence of acute kidney injury in patients hospitalized with COVID-19 was 10.0%, and age, high serum creatinine and C-reactive protein levels were factors associated with the risk of developing acute kidney injury in hospitalized patients with COVID-19. The results may assist in care strategies for patients who had COVID-19 and who developed AKI after a seven-day hospitalization period. Provides evidence of the importance of kidney health in patients with COVID-19 and the need to monitor these patients after hospital discharge, continuing this important line of investigation.

    The study of melodrama, traditionally linked to literary and cinematic studies, is increasingly being applied in sociological analyses addressing cultural and historical phenomena. This dissertation examines how the concept of melodramatic imagination, proposed by authors like Peter Brooks and Thomas Elsaesser, transcends the boundaries of gender studies and provides a powerful lens for analyzing documentary narratives about the impeachment of Dilma Rousseff. By highlighting how different documentaries adopt melodramatic strategies to portray the impeachment, an ideological polarization is revealed in which political figures are depicted as heroes or villains, influencing public opinion. The research emphasizes that melodrama is not merely a stylistic tool, but a moral language that shapes and legitimizes ideological discourse, offering a deeper understanding of contemporary political dynamics and the strategies for constructing their meanings.
